Sarah is talented and passionate towards old furniture and interesting woodwork in general! I spoke to her assistant over the phone prior to dropping the piece off at her workshop. On the phone, they actually wanted to have a conversation about why I needed them as opposed to the standard "what do you want?" kind of greeting I received elsewhere. (Note: she offered to do a pick up and delivery of my piece, but I'm down that way sometimes, so I told her I'd save her the trip.) I dropped it off right before the holidays and she was up front in telling me it would be a couple months before she got to it. I was in no big rush, so that was fine. I picked it up this past weekend after a call on Friday from Sarah saying the repair was complete. It looks amazing! Not only did she fix it to the point where we can't tell it was ever broken, she told us a little about it too! She's very personable and her assistant is too! She is patient with those who have less knowledge about wood and furniture. We ended up talking for a while about projects and furniture. Now I've made an appointment for her to consult on some woodwork restoration in my home. I would HIGHLY recommend her to ANYONE. She will care about providing quality work at a fair price.
Description of Work: Sarah repaired a dining room table for me. The wood pedestal that held up the tabletop had split in three when we were moving. It's my mom's so it was important to get it fixed.

Sarah was great! Came by, inspected the bed, found some previous repairs that had not been done well. Took apart the bed and transported it to her shop. Repaired broken pieces and replaced interior wood pieces and hardware to make the bed like new again. Came back and reassembled the bed (not easy, since it was Scandinavian design from 30 years ago!). All in all, a great job!

Sarah was great to work with from start to finish. She responded pretty quickly when I first called her. She told me honestly that she had not done exactly this type of job before but then did some research to see what kinds of products and techniques would work well in the setting (the door gets direct, unfiltered, late-day sun). She arrived to start work when she said she would, was very flexible about scheduling and even worked around the mason installing steps right next to her. The job required several applications before it was final and the results are striking. We get many compliments on the door and couldn't be happier with her work.
Description of Work: Sanded, stained and refinished the exterior of two custom wooden front doors. She also polished and waxed the large copper door handles.

The provider cleaned up 8 pieces of bedroom and living room furniture that had been stored for several months in a non-air conditioned environment. Fibers from blankets placed on the furniture had become embedded in the lacquer which had to be removed. Nicks and scrapes were touched up to hide them. Sarah did a very good job for me. This furniture was over 50 years old, and now it looks practically new. She was very easy to work with and flexible with my schedule. She came to the mini storage facility where I kept the furniture so I didn't have to take it to her shop. I would recommend her and would use her again.

She will pick up and deliver (for $45/hour). We have a pickup truck, so we brought our items to her. She developed estimates and sent them to us timely. We told her to go ahead with the slipper chair/stool. She is an artisan who recognizes why oldsters like us (late 70s) value these things. We understand that "restored" antiques have no market value. Took two months. The chair's frame had been damaged. and she restored it with dowels, plastic wood, and love. These pieces' upholstery was (were?) perfect, but the trim (hey, I'm not an antique fancier) was shot and needed replacement. So she found new trim and placed it and, after many phone calls from us, told us it was ready for pickup.. It's back in our parlor and we love it.
Description of Work: We asked Sarah (so personable - you will love her) to do two things. 1) repair a broken hinge on a "looks like an antique but it isn't" trunk, and 2) repair and restore a genuine antique: a slipper chair and stool. She quoted an outrageous price for the trunk and we took it elsewhere and had it repaired for $75. We trusted her for the slipper chair and she delivered. Nice job. Took too long, though. Girl has to make a living, and I just hate to write anything negative.

Sarah was a joy to work with. She was able to offer suggestions as to what should be done to best help a piece, was willing to say if a piece wasn't worth fixing (though would have done the fixes if we had still wanted them done), and even after she received payment in full continued to adjust the refinished area on one piece until we were satisfied with the end result. We really liked that during the process she was willing to send pictures of any issues, as it really helped us to see her concerns before (mostly? always?) agreeing with her suggestions. When picking the furniture up from the house and during return delivery her labor crew was always polite, and careful with the furniture being moved to lift it properly and to not bump other furniture or walls. The process did take a bit longer than promised; in our case it was obvious that the longer time meant that the finished product was not being rushed but done correctly and well. Overall, we are very pleased with the final products and look forward to using them for many more years to come.
Description of Work: Refinished and repaired several pieces of furniture, one of which had many years of furniture polish & cigarette smoke buildup which had to be removed by hand; also reupholstered one piece of furniture.

Sarah was always prompt, courteous, and very professional. She takes great pride in her work and we are happy to recommend her to our friends.
Description of Work: Sarah did an amazing job of converting our old entertainment center into a more modern piece to hold a 46" TV. She removed doors and drawers, put in a new shelf, and stained everything to match the rest of the piece. We were very pleased with the quality of her work and her professionalism. The price was very reasonable. On another occasion, she made custom cherry chair rail to match our new cherry kitchen cabinets. It looks beutiful!

Contacted S G Woodworks in January and my dining room table was delivered around the 1st of February based on her schedule. Our estimated return date based on refinishing and regluing of a segment was to be prior to Monthers Day for a luncheon I had scheduled. The project was not complete however, SG Woodworks offered a substitute. The project was finished in April and delivered free of charge. The work performed was well done.
Description of Work: Positive - Quality of Work is Very Good Professionalism - Very Good Follow Through - Fair Delivery Date - Fair I would recommend S G Woodworks for quality of work and service. I would encourage you to provide sufficient lead time if you need your furniture returned within a few months. She was excellent in follow through with the initial contact but slower in delivery after receiving my dining room table. However, the quality of work is very good but the return date was extended more than I was comfortable with. She is sincere in her work and has great potential in being a 5 star company.

I called Sarah about the chair first and made an appointment to drop it off at her workshop. She determined that she could drill out the center of the support and insert a dowel between that and the chair leg. She estimated about an hour and a half for labor. The process was slow due to the need for exacting work and gluing which needed several days to cure. I showed Sarah a picture of the table damage and she dropped over to my house to examine it and hopefully repair it. The color was difficult to match though so she removed the drop-leaf and brought it back to the workshop to get the color right. Again, an hour and a half was estimated for the work. Both items were delivered to me today and I am very pleased with the work! The chair and table both look brand new. Even though it took several weeks for the work to be completed the total time I was charged was one hour for each item. I couldn't be happier and I would highly recommend Sarah to anyone who needs woodworking repair.
Description of Work: I had a wooden dining room chair which has a broken support piece. We had tried gluing it many times but it always broke again. I also had a dinette table which had deep gouges on it. I figured I might as well jump in and have them both done.

Sarah Grinter from S G Woodworks came over to look at the job. She was going to come back and give an estimate but we haven’t heard from her since. She must have had so much work that she couldn't do it. She didn’t do anything; I never got an estimate. She had mentioned while she was here, that she was going to do something in January but I was sitting and wondering and she didn’t do anything. I kept wondering why she didn’t get back to us. She didn’t give me an estimate. She never asked me for another appointment afterwards. She just lost my business. I was not very pleased. She was very pleasant when she came over. She did what I had immediately asked her to do. I would not recommend her right now; she seems to be too busy. She scheduled a specific appointment with us for her initial visit. She was here on time. She was personable to talk with. She was knowledgeable. I had no doubt that she could do the job. She knew a lot about furniture. She told me about things that could be done and things that couldn't be done. She didn’t try to sell me everything that I didn’t need. That was very important. She was more than willing to look at all the furniture that I needed to have refinished. However, she just didn’t follow through. I would have liked to see her work. She responded to my request initially. She made an appointment, she showed up on time, she looked at everything but left it half way. She never called back. I would have wanted to use her if she would have called me back to tell me she couldn't do it. That means a whole lot to people like me. I was sitting here waiting and she never called. She never bothered to say that something has come up or that she has hurt herself, or that she won’t be able to get to it until spring, or if can something be arranged then. That would have been professional but I just didn’t hear anything.
Description of Work: I wanted an estimate from S G Woodworks for furniture restoration. Sarah Grinter came out to do the estimate about a month and a half ago. I had about eight pieces of furniture that I wanted restored.

Response from S G WOODWORKS
On November 8 I visited the members home and we spent time walking through the house and we discussed restoring multiple pieces of furniture. They were very pleasant and even offered coffee because it was late in the evening. I followed up with an email later in the week, November 13, letting them know that it was a pleasure to meet them and that I was working on their quote. I spent over an hour and a half thinking and typing them up a quote to restore their furniture. I never heard back from them. I assumed it had to do with the holidays. Sometimes members wait a few months before getting their furniture worked on or built...... I went through my notes after receiving the members report, upset that they thought I forgot about them. The quote was typed up and sent in an attachment by email on the morning of November 14. The mailing address I used was incorrect. Yes, S.G. Woodworks has a healthy amount of business right now. The workload is under control and we are meeting or beating deadlines. Hopefully, the members will consider giving us chance to prove our commitment to our clients.

Everthing went well. We had to delay delivery a couple of times due to the weather. Sarah wanted to make sure nothing happened to diminish the final look of the piece.
Description of Work: I received a 1920s/30s radio table that had been floating around my family for a long time. The mechanics of the table still worked (the radio was gone), but the finish was terrible and the veneer on the top was in distastrous shape. Sarah replaced the veneer, refinished the legs and did some additional repair to the table. It is BEAUTIFUL!

She was very personable. She stayed in contact with me because she was a little bit late. She did give me a courtesy call and I liked that. She was very thorough in explaining the process to me. She wasn?t sure whether one specific piece that was being refinished was 100% wood including the sides. She even took the piece with her to match it to make sure. I didn?t feel rushed. I could ask questions and she was more than happy to answer them, but I thought that her cost was extremely high.
