The Gundlach crew just left our premises and left us with a top-notch duct system that is miles better than the one they replaced. Joey Lowe at the office was with us every step of the way in answering our questions as they came up. Jose and Hector ran the crew professionally and courteously and did a fantastic job of installing the system - they are very hard and professional workers, especially considering the tight crawlspace they had to work in. We would definitely recommend Gundlach for any HVAC work you need.

A Technician was sent very quickly. It was explained beforehand a charge of $89. for the estimate would apply to the repair. The Technician was very unprofessional. Several times referring to my collectables making my wife and I very uncomfortable. Also not wearing his mask properly at the height of the pandemic. He told us the Furnace would be too costly to repair but still would not give an estimate. Instead he made an appointment for the next day with a salesman. The Salesman from Gundlach was very professional but seemed to be going only on the word of the technician. Two days later I received an estimate of over $17000. (Seventeen Thousand dollars) for a new furnace. or $14000.+ cash price. I asked again for the repair estimate that I already paid for and days later received a detailed bill but still no repair estimate! I then called another company who came out and repaired the furnace for just over $700. As it turned out, the furnace itself was perfectly fine a valve that controlled zone heating needed to be replaced. I spoke to a manager at Gundlach to tell him his Technician is either dishonest or incompetent and I deserve a refund of the $89. He told me I was wrong, he had to stand by his man but I will gat a refund. To this day over a month later, no refund but the furnace is working fine. I do not recommend this company.
Description of Work: My Furnace was not heating properly.

I called Gundlach, who installed the HVAC system in my house, after I determined my gas furnace was not responding to changes in the thermostat setting. I told them I had noticed the batteries in the thermostat had corroded and probably was the cause of the problem. Linda said someone could probably be out that morning. She called back shortly to tell me that the thermostat I would need was not stocked at their location and the service tech would have to go pick it up at a parts distributor therefore he would have to come later in the day and I would have to pay an additional $112.00 for the new thermostat pick-up. The cost of the thermostat however, was covered under the mfr. warranty. I felt this should not be passed on to the customer as it is "the cost of doing business" and told her so. She said she couldn't help it, and explained the cost involved to pick up the part, essentially time and paperwork. While in "shock", I asked if I could pick up the part and do it myself. Due to the risk of voiding the remaining time on the warranty if I had a family member do it, I agreed to have Gundlach come out and do it. Later that day, the technician arrived and discovered the thermostat had in fact failed and shorted out the transformer in the furnace. He replaced the transformer ( he had that part in his truck) then started to use the old thermostat but decided not to. It is working fine now but I will mention that he only replaced the top portion of the thermostat and did not replace the wall plate which is where the wiring is connected. The flat rate fee for his work was $143.00 to replace the transformer, which involved about a half hour of testing and $289.00 to replace the thermostat, which took 5 minutes, pulled it off, looked at it for a minute, and pushed it back on. There is also a charge of $89.00 for "D&D" for which I failed to ask what that was but the total charge for everything was $633.00, and no charge for parts as they are under warranty. Perhaps, because of the warranty issue, I feel I was totally taken advantage of on pricing and the parts pick up charge is totally unreasonable. I was not given an estimate of costs while the technician was here either for possible expense when he realized something else besides the thermostat wasn't working. I was "at their mercy" so to speak and had to assume they are honest, which I questioned after the charge to pick up parts on the other side of town. I use them only because they installed the system but I will not again. Also, my home is a 1500SF single story.

This customer was extremely fortunate that The Trane Company warrantied the badly corroded thermostat which was bubbling with acid. The corrosion damaged the transformer for the gas furnace as well, leaving the customer with no heat or air-conditioning. We appreciate that our customer gave us A's & B's on responsiveness and punctually. She was informed ahead what the cost would be for the warranty replacement thermostat and the trip charge to her home. We had no knowledge of the damages to the HVAC system until the Technician arrived and discovered the damaged transformer. The technician discussed the issue with the customer and the additional cost. Gundlach Plumbing & Heating Company, Inc. has been in business since 1929. We value our long time reputation and have earned it by always treating our customers with respect and fair pricing. We are saddened that this customer rated our company so poorly for a consumer maintenance issue. Respectfully, Linda J. Stevens Owner

I can't say enough nice things about my experience. Long story short, we have a company we pay monthly to "insure" oure appliances, heating/air, plumbing and electrical. It always takes them a few days to get out and do the work. When it's 90+ degrees outside and inside my house is 85 you expect some pep in their step and I had my last straw with them this time. I called Gundlach, after my insurance company's technicians failed to return my call on an emergency status, and 8 other companies that couldn't get out until Monday (I called 3pm Friday). The gentleman on the phone was amazing and the gentleman who came to my home I think was more disgusted with the past companies work on my unit than I have been. He replaced a piece that should have been replaced with my compressor 10 months ago and made sure it didn't mess up my brand new compressor. I felt like he treated my situation with great empathy and attention, as if he was working on his own unit or a family members home. I will be using these guys from now on, canceling my "insurance" and purchasing a service plan with them. When a company treats you like family, and they have never met you before, you keep that company because you don't get that anymore.

Gundlach Plumbing & Heating Company feels that we have been rated unfairly by this customer. We met with his real estate agent, who apparently was unaware the house was winterized. We de-winterized the house and checked all of the plumbing fixtures. A list of the needed repairs was made, the estimated prices for those repairs was given to our customer over the phone. The total service call was $219.00. Several weeks later Gundlach was called for a leaking water heater. The service call for the water heater repair was $212.95. Gundlach responded quickly to the service needs for this out of state customer and his real estate agent. Respectfully, Linda J Stevens C0-Owner

The tech came out and spent 3 hours and court five minutes replacing a contact relay on the external unit. Which was not the cause of the air handler not running. The air handler was still not fixed and they charged me 482.00 At the end they were saying it must be the circuit breakers in the air handler, and that they needed to order a heater package which would take 2 weeks to order and 600.00 to install. I sent an email to the General Manager which was responded with an attached form letter from a service manager but delivered through another workers email account. Stay away from these people. They ripped me off.

We are very saddened to see that a first time customer to our company has chosen to write this negative review. The customer who had a mechanical background was unable to repair his system, deciding to call for professional HVAC advice. Due to poor maintenance and excessive rusting, the electrical side of the air-handler auxiliary/emergency heat and air handler breakers needed to be replaced. Our technician, with many years of experience, was able to free up and start the outdoor units compressor with the replacement of a contactor. The air-handler wiring for the emergency heat continued to short out. The customer was advised that he could use the heat pump to maintain heat in the home with the auxiliary/emergency heat disconnected until the necessary heater package could be shipped. Unfortunately the Trane Company had sold out of all of the heater packages due to the extreme artic air conditions putting a strain on heat pump auxiliary heaters. The Trane Company was waiting for their manufacture to make and ship heaters packages. There was a two week wait for parts to be shipped. Gundlach Plumbing & Heating Company believes our company and Technician performed our due diligence to restore heating to our customer's home. In my conversation with our customer it appeared the cost of the repairs and delay in shipment of parts was the real issue, which is regretful. Respectfully, Linda J Stevens Co-Owner

They always showed up on time within the timeframe they set. They have always been easy to schedule with and were very responsive. They would give me their cell phone numbers to call for emergencies. They do great work and wore little booties to keep my floors clean. They also cleaned well after the work and even brought their own cleaning supplies. I have used them many times because they are very honest about the work needing to be done and their service techs are excellent. They may not be the cheapest, but the work they do is top notch. It is worth every penny.

I was really impressed. This is the 4th plumbing service I have used over the years and this will be the last. I have found my plumbing home. I had previously used a different plumber and described the same problem but they changed out the hardware and missed the faulty wax seal, so I asked a co-worker who she used, and she said "Gundlach". That was good enough for me and boy was she right! From the moment I called and spoke to Joe, I got the feeling I was in good hands. Is it possible to hear someone smiling over the phone? Well I could sure tell Joe was very approachable. He offered to have someone at my place in an hour, but I wanted them to come Monday, as I was at work at the time and off Monday. So it was on for 8:30 Monday morning. Come Monday morning, I get a call around 8:15 with a friendly "Good morning" and notice that they were on their way. So the truck pulls up and 2 plumbers get out. Two? WOW I got a team of plumbers that?s great ! They introduced themselves and then, now get this, they put shoe covers on their feet before entering the house. WOW ! They listened to what I described, examined the toilet and agreed it was the wax seal. And so they got down to doing all the things needed to fix the problem. They discovered water damage to the subfloor and told me about it and offered solutions. Throughout the repair process, they were very happy to have me watch and talk to them about plumbing matters. Other plumbers seem put out that I am hanging around " their turf" like I was trying to discover some dark secret about pipes. But not these two professionals. And thats what they were, competent professionals. They cleaned up, performed a quality check and even answered my question about why you do not want to seal the base. And the price was just right. They were in and out in less than an hour. And then.. and then.... I get a follow up call the next day from Joe asking if everything went ok and was I satisified with the work. A follow up call? What? None of the other services I used did that. So, I recommend them to anyone, I had a fine experience.

All explained above. As I said, I have the documentation and photos to prove that this story is true. I would never deal with these people again. Not for anything. Having read the response of the company, I have the following reply. If that heat exchanger were under warranty, I was not informed by Joey Lowe, the service manager and grandson of the founder, that it was under warranty. He told me that it would cost $1500 to replace the heat exchanger, but I could get a new furnace for about $5000. He did, indeed, cut ALL of the wires, which, as I said, was commented on by the company I asked to come and replace my heat exchanger, as being a very unusual practice, and an indication that your company was not planning on fixing this gas furnace. That company did bring a new heat exchanger, which they did not install, as they said mine was fine. It did cost me a restocking charge. By the way, Joey never tested for CO leaking. The part he pointed out was not the heat exchanger. No second technician ever came out per your policy. And I'd hope it wasn't your policy that the long pony-tailed serviceman who left the "condem next season" note in my furnace, left that note. But Jim & Tabitha responded to it by calling Joey. And Joey responded to it by condemning the gas furnace. And what followed was a very hard sell for a new system. The photo of the note is impressive. As I said, I was a customer for more than 20 years.
Description of Work: As a part of regularly scheduled and paid for maintenance, in September 2007, I had Gundlach come to do the pre-season maintenance on my dual fuel Trane HVAC system. I had been dealing with Gundlach for more than 20 years at that point. I had repeat dealings for several years with Joey, the service manager. He seemed very trustworthy and I had no reason to doubt his ethics. So in September 2007, they sent two new service reps to my home for the regular maintenance. At the close of the visit, when they said they just had to write the ticket, they went to get the serial number from the furnace and then they came back upstairs and said they had found something and needed to call the service manager. I said that was fine, as I had worked with Joey numerous times. They called and Joey came out. He said that there was a cracked heat exchanger and that it was leaking carbon monoxide and that if I could see "the little ceramic thing" that was the heat exchanger and it was cracked and he had to condemn the furnace. I would still have AC but no heat. I should just buy a new furnace, he said, because this was an old unit. So when I told him that I was not working and would not buy a new furnace and he would just have to condemn it, he looked perplexed, but did put the condemned sticker on the furnace and cut all the wires, and left. I was approached by Joey and the salesman to buy a new furnace -- several times -- but I did not take any action on this as it felt like a hard sell. After 18 months with no gas heat, I decided that I should do something about this furnace, but thought I should get a second opinion. I asked another company to come and fix my "cracked heat exchanger" and they came out. They found nothing wrong with the furnace or the heat exchanger. They tested the CO throughout my home, with no dangerous results. They said they were going to "uncondemn" my furnace and put it back together. They commented on the fact that the wires had been cut without any indication of where they should go. We found the layout on the internet. When THEY went to write up the ticket, they asked me to come downstairs. In my furnace, written on the sticker with the serial numbers, was a handwritten note. "Condem next season. 9/21/06" This is what the service techs had seen in 2007, when their service record read "nothing unusual" to an abrupt entry of "found cracked heat exchanger" within the same paragraph. This is what Joey saw and acted upon. I have the documentation of these events and photographs. These people are not someone you want to hire. I had been their customer for 20 years and they did this to me. They would do it to my daughter or my 97 year old father or to you. Stay away from them.

Response from Gundlach Plumbing & Heating
Gundlach Plumbing & Heating Company did not leave our customer without heat. Our customer had a dual fuel system installed in October 1995. The gas furnace was a backup system to the heat pump which provided both air conditioning and heating. Gundlach Did Not cut any wiring to our customer's gas furance. Our procedures for condeming a gas heating system have in the past and continue to be: Technician turns off the furnace, turns off the gas going to the furnace, disconnect one wire so the furnace cannot be turned back on by the homeowner. A second technician is sent to re-inspect the heat exchanger. Our technicians attend heat exchanger classes provided by HVAC manufactures to correctly locate and identify areas where cracks can appear in different manufactured heat exchangers. Our customers Trane gas furnace heat exchanger was and continues to be under warranty until 2015. Failed heat exchangers under warranty are returned to the manufactures supplier. The service provider is not reimbursed for the cost of the new warranty heat exchanger until the old heat exchanger has been returned. Gundlach Plumbing & Heating Company has been in business since 1929. As a HVAC service provider, Gundlach has and will always consider the health and safety of our customers and their families as a very servious responsibility. Respectfully Linda J Stevens

We complained to them that our system wasn't working properly and all they did was come to reset the CPU every time. They never cleaned the coils outside and that was part of the maintenance package that we purchased from them. I really don't think they know what they are doing and I think they are inept. I would never use them again.
Description of Work: We used Gundlach Plumbing & Heating to upgrade our H-VAC system.

Response from Gundlach Plumbing & Heating
Our customer's post comes as a complete shock to our company. Gundlach did install upgraded HVAC equipment for our customer in June of 2010. Not all of the HVAC was upgraded. The installation was completed in four days. The equipment has been serviced under the service contract three times; the fall of 2010, spring of 2011 and the fall of 2011. Our service department has attempted several times since March 2012 to schedule the spring 2012 service. On each of the service maintenance visits, our technicians spent four hours at our cutomer's home servicing all of the HVAC equipment. Our customer requested several extra repairs over the two year period that Gundlach did not even charge them for. One was an issue in August 2011 with extreme humidity in their home. Gundlach found air leaks around the old chimney flue, air being pulled in through an electrical conduit for the generator, and air being pulled in through the dryer vent. Even though Gundlach did not cause the problem, we repaired it at no charge to our customer. The husband was extremely happy with Gundlach at that time. We do not understand the reference to a CPU switch, however, Gundlach has not been to our customer's home and switched any switch and left. All of the HVAC equipment has continued to be in good working order each time it was serviced. We do not understand why our customer is upset with us. It saddens us that our customer felt the need to make this post and give us this grade. We sincerely hope that others will recognize and appreciate the great service we gave to this customer and continue to give to all of our customers, and not judge this as a bad mark against our company. Sincerely, Linda J. Stevens Owner

The work turned out great. When I contacted them they came out the very next day. They gave me an estimate and the estimate was only $1 or $2 off from what they initially quoted me. They were on time and cleaned up after themselves. The price they charged me was great, I was very happy with everything they did.
Description of Work: They did some plumbing for me. They re-piped my whole house which is about 2,600 sq. feet. They also put a hot water tank in and a water purifier as well.

The guys who showed up "demonstrated" to me the "proper way to sit on a toilet". I was stunned! Even if I was a chronic "leaner backer", which is what he must have thought made the toilet act up the way it did, his demonstration was totally unnecessary. One of the guys took me outside to show me how to shut off the water on the street. The other guy stayed in the house and when I came back in he said he switched the aerator on my kitchen faucet which I never told him to do. I would never recommend them. They were punctual, they were not professional.
Description of Work: My toilet had a very slow drip behind it and the nut just needed to be tightened ever so slightly.

We have a service contract with them. We pay them annually. They come out twice a year to do a tune up and of course if we need them for service/repairs for our plumbing, heating, a/c or anything like that. They are reliable. They do quality work and we have never had a problem with any of their services. Everything always comes through and works fine after they leave.
Description of Work: Gundlach Plumbing & Heating Co does our spring tune up.
