BNW Builders

BNW was extremely professional. Despite arriving a few minutes late they more than made up for that with the presentation and attentiveness. They listened intently as I explained everything I wanted done and after taking all the required measurements and notes, they took time to give background information on their company, ask questions, and show pictures from completed projects. The company VP of Operations called me the next day to see how the appointment went. The agent who came to collect the required information for the estimate followed up in a couple days as he said with a phone call to let me know the estimate had been sent via email. The total of the estimate was about three times what I have been quoted by two other (smaller) contracting companies. It was almost six times the amount it would have cost me if I had paid for it along with the construction of my house (less than a year ago). The price for the entire job was $40,082. $14,850 was for the bathroom and the other $25,232 was for the large living space (an area of 23' x 19' and 7' x 16'). Of the $14,850 $1584 was for painting. Of the $25,232, $6000 was for painting and $4704 was for carpeting.

I called the company and they came for an appointment to discuss wants and needs. We had a rotten soffit that needed to be mended and about a 2 square foot area of roofing that needed to be replaced. Then we talked about their gutters. We decided we needed to replace our gutters. The representative came out before the replacement and showed us roofing shingles to match what we currently have. The gutter company came early in the day to extrude the gutters - long, continuous pieces for each section of the house. BNW came about an hour later to install and fix the roof and soffit. I think the workmanship was well done and we love the gutters. We didn't notice how loud our rains were before the new gutters and downspouts. Rainstorms are so much more quiet now and we didn't even expect that benefit. We will use BNW again in the future.

They did a very good job of clean up and the house looks very nice. There was one error that someone made with the guttering, but they came back and corrected that with no problems. Overall, I was very satisfied.

They came to give a quote which was on the high side. I went to other companies to get more quote. Proving that their price was way to high. I called this company back (being they had a good rep) we were able to work out a price and the service was done. Gary came last week to install the covers. I'm pleased with the product so far and with the company's service. I still paid more then the other quotes that I received but I felt confident with our decision to work with BNW. It's nice to see the leaves blow over the gutters and not into the gutters.

They were so over priced that it wasn't even funny.

We were very pleased with the process and the results. They did an excellent job communicating and explaining the work, before, during, and after it was done. We appreciated the fact that we could visit a showroom to see materials (in addition to someone coming to us). Bruce was very patient with all of our questions. We were very lucky with weather and scheduling and the actual work on the house took just over a week because there was a specialized team for each part (roof, siding, etc.) and more than one team could work at a time. We may have been able to get a better price elsewhere, but good service and confidence in the people doing the work is worth a lot. Bruce was extremely responsive from start to finish and it was obvious that he and his staff care about quality work. We highly recommend BNW Builders and would use them again.

In July 2013, we had a 1997 roof replaced with a GAF Camelot II Shakewood version. The house resembles a cottage in some ways and this design has enhanced that image greatly. The texture of the material is very attractive and changes with the light. Our original consultation was thorough, but not tedious, informative and altogether pleasant. John showed us the details about the roof and our design choices, even bringing samples for us to view outside against the siding so we could make the best selection. The crew doing the removal and installation were professional, courteous, hardworking, and careful to honor our special requests about access to the roof to protect the plantings and pavers. They were also appreciative of the drinks we provided for them while working. The men were careful with their cleanup, although we did find some nails that eluded the magnetic ?broom?. As promised, the rep from GAF appeared to check and certify the roof and, now, we?re set for 50 years! We are very pleased with the roof, the service, and the personnel from BNW Builders and have already recommended them to others who have admired their product.

They are VERY prompt. BNW completed all the work before the other two estimates even replied to my calls. (It was a bit of an emergency, so I could not wait weeks for a response.) The price quoted was accurate and specific (not wide open like so many other contractors). They even worked with me to use some materials I already had on site. Although I thought the entire porch roof should have been done for that price, patching half was reasonable considering the speed with which they responded. They also did some small carpentry work on the eaves for minimal cost. The rule-of-thumb these days is to take whatever you think the job is worth and triple it -- that's how much they will charge. So, being only 40-50% more than I had hoped was expected, and even welcomed. The dry-wall man spent three days getting the job perfect. My ceiling looks like brand-new now. Very nice work. I still feel they were giving me extra work for free to "sink the hook" on a new customer. Regardless, work of that quality is hard to find at any price. My only complaint is minor, maybe even picky. They had two other guys come to patch the siding along one side of the raised roofing frame. I noticed that the pieces seemed to have been rough-cut leaving an uneven line, not parallel to the roof. I mentioned it to the supervisor, and he had them come back and repeat the work at no extra charge. The result was a little better, but I still think it could have been neater. I would have pressed the point, but the weather was freezing, and everything else was okay, so I let it go. Bottom line -- BNW gets my first call for any work on my home.

I have dealt with a number of contractors over the years, and Bruce and his folks rank right up there with the best. I went to BNW Builders initially because of their exceptional reputation here on Angie's List and with the Better Business Bureau, always my first two stops when considering a contractor. I wanted to replace our aging wooden builder-grade windows, and I thought we would end up with vinyl siding in place of our rotting hardboard siding. When I visited BNW's showroom, I learned that they carry a line of brand-name fiberglass (not aluminum and not vinyl) replacement windows that looked better than any other windows I had seen. And one entire showroom wall is used to display all ten colors of a composite siding that looks like wooden clapboards, goes up without the use of J-channels for a very traditional look, never needs painting, and is guaranteed for the life of the home. After site measurements, deciding on details and signing a contract, work began in about four weeks, earlier than promised. The job coordinator, Steve, was my contact and kept me in the loop at all times. The siding and trim crew of 4-5 workers spent two weeks on the job, arriving early each morning and beginning promptly at 8 AM each day. Most days they worked until 6 PM or later. The crew leader, Olvin, regularly came to me to explain details or ask my opinion of how I would like something done. After the first week, the window crew of three began work while the siding installation continued. They removed 48 double-hung windows, wrapped the frames with aluminum, installed new windows, caulked everything, and were done in just three days. Crews cleaned up each day, then did a thorough final cleanup. The 30-yard construction dumpster that sat in our driveway for two weeks was hauled off, overflowing, within an hour of the completion of the siding work. In watching this work progress, it was quickly evident that these workers knew their crafts very well, took pride in doing their best, and enjoyed working together. A week or so after the siding was completed, the new aluminum porch posts were installed, and shortly after that new white powder-coated aluminum railings were installed by Greendale Railing Co., under contract to BNW for our job. See my review of their work elsewhere on Angie's List. I know that $70,000.00 sounds like a lot to pay for this work, but I know from experience that you get what you pay for. I think we got the best in products provided and work performed by BNW Builders.

BNW came out and did all the measurements for our new windows. In addition to the casement windows, we had a couple other unique installation challenges. The crew arrived and time and installed everything in a few days. In doing so, they found some old termite damage that was hidden until they pulled out a window. At the point a whole chunk of the wall was missing. They kind of had us over a barrel and could have charged a lot of money to fix the hidden damage. Instead, they charged what I thought was a very reasonable amount to repair the damage and get the job completed. The new windows fit so well we like them far better than the original windows. We haven't been able to compare electric bills, but the house sure is much quieter. The views out of the new windows are great. BNW is very good with communication and easy to work with. I would strongly recommend them.

They came to my house to give me a quote and I felt that they were very pushy. They have to improve on their customer service.

They did an absolutely wonderful job. They were very professional. They cleaned everything up.

They did a nice job of installation, did a good job of removal of the old windows and storms, and cleaned up everything. We are most pleased with the job with one exception....the kick stop lock on the slider sticks and makes noise. I have not contacted them to remedy this yet, as we have been traveling extensively this summer, but plan to do so. Other than that, the job was fine. We chose Marvin windows over the others I examined because of Consumer Reports reviews, and the experience of a good friend. So far, we are most pleased with the look, the noise reduction, and the overall improvement of the home.

Chose them becuase they were on the BBB. Set up a plan to start building next year. I was completely satisfied with them and their plans.

They did a great job both times. The first time when they installed the gutters on our home we had a coupon which they honored. The second time (when they installed the gutters on our garage) they gave us the same price we had paid for the gutters on the house which was fantastic! They were promt and professional. We love our new gutters. They look great!

They seemed very professional; they were punctual. They gave me their estimate in writing.

Bruce, the owner, came to our home because our first contractor had done such a poor job and couldn't finish the job because of health reasons. Bruce's company took over and worked within our budget. His company had to tear off all the previous contractor's work and helped us document how the initial vinyl siding had been installed on top of dry rot. Bruce's team did a great detailed job and finished the large job within a week. At the end, we stayed within our initial budget and the house looked great. Two of our neighbor's hired BNW after our house was done and were also equally happy with the work.

They were fine. For me, it's probably always that, I don't know that much about code but there is a code when you put windows on in a new construction, I know that they have standards, I'm not sure that they are the same standards for replacement windows and that's just the general. I would use them again but I've already replaced them all.

On time and thorough estimate

I had BNW Builders install windows in my house. He was generally concerned about the installation during the winter weather. I was a little upset with the sales person saying they would repair some loose bricks around the windows which they did not do. The work was adequate. The caulking around the windows looked terrible but the owner did come back out and correct the work.

My experience was unfavorable. They were more interested in delivering a sales pitch then listening to the project I wanted to do. It took them over 4 weeks to get me the quote. They then told me they did not work up the full quote because it would have been two companies.

I am an Architect and based on my technical research of non-clogging rain gutter systems, I choose two gutter systems (and companies) to talk with me at my home and provide proposals. After their visits, I decided that "Gutter Shutter" (BNW Builders) was a superior product from a material, construction and design basis, and that it was very price competitive. I contacted BMW Builders a few days later for a list of clients/addresses of installations in my neighborhood to visit, which they quickly provided. After my site visits, I called BMW Builders to eliminate a gutter on a roof with a large overhang (30" +/-), from my Scope of Work. They reworked the proposal (very fair) and I signed the contract. They performed the work within a couple of weeks. Their crew was great, knew their craft and cleaned up the site afterwards. They even asked me if it would be alright if they played music on their radio at a moderate level. My experience showed me that non-clogging rain gutter systems are not cheap, but can be a cost-effective alternative to having non-clogging covers installed over new or existing rain gutter systems. Unless your existing rain gutter system is of high quality and in good repair, you may be putting lipstick on a pig or spending additional money to put your gutter system in good working condition in order to install the cover.
