Description of Work: Had to have area beside garage filled up to level with existing driveway so could park motor home there. They put quite a bit of fill and did an excellent job of leveling and were very particular about finishing where butted to existing driveway. Arrived early with lots of equipment to do the job, very professional.

 + -1 moreOverall, this was a very easy company to deal with. They were professional and kept me informed when we had to reschedule due to rain. They were extremely polite. They were great at answering questions about the job and wrote an estimate detailing what they were going to do. I was very pleased with this company because they were easy to deal with and efficient.
Description of Work: I contacted Absolute Asphalt and they were able to give me an estimate to repave my driveway within 2 days and completed the work within a week. The old asphalt was not level due to tree roots and was cracked. I also had a brick border around the driveway which needed to be removed. Brian and his crew removed the bricks and the old asphalt surface and hauled it away. They regraded the gravel and put down 3 inches of asphalt. The results look wonderful. The surface is flat and smooth. They completed the job in one morning. I would definitely use them again.

 + -1 moreThis was my second dealing with the folks at Absolute Asphalt. It started with a phone call to Roxanne who has been prompt and courteous in returning my phone calls. I scheduled an appointment to get an estimate for paving my driveway. Jay met me on the agreed date and provided the initial estimate. My spouse wanted to get other estimates so we told Jay we would get back to him. After receiving several other estimates, they were all fairly close, and Absolute Asphalt was slightly higher but still competitive. Having dealt with them before when they paved my boss' driveway we told them they could have the job if we could agree on a slightly lower price. They matched the other estimates so we awarded them the contract. The paving date was set for the following week, however, due to rainy weather we had to delay the job for one week. We set up two tentative dates depending on the weather. Brian, the owner called me on the first of those dates and said they thought they could get the job done before the rains set in that day. Brian arrived within the hour with his team and started right away. They had completed the job in several hours working smoothly and efficiently. The finished job looked great and I am very pleased with the results. I will post a photo shortly.

They had to move a truck so we could pull a car out of the front yard and the friendly truck driver backed his truck up then used hand signals to ensure we didn't hit anything. Everyone on the crew was exceptionally nice. From marking, to leveling, to paving and rolling, the whole job was done in one day. The crew cleaned up after themselves and left the yard looking great - no big truck tracks! The final invoice was exactly the amount estimated - no surprises. We highly recommend Absolute Asphalt and will invite them back should I need any additional paving services.

 + -1 moreIn summary, Brian and his crew did an outstanding job from start to finish. After collecting quotes from 3 companies (one other from AL), all were within hundreds of dollars of each other. I ensured the quotes were apples to apples and all were working form the same specs. Brian actually set the bar for the specs which others had to follow. In the end I chose Brian for accessibility and proactive discussion of the project. He showed up on time to do his quote and and patiently answered all of my follow-up questions. I felt comfortable awarding him the job given these factors plus all of the positive reviews on AL. On the appointed service date, Brian and crew arrived early and went right to work. Best description of how the team works together is that of a professional athletic team. They all know their job and they set out to accomplish the task at hand in an orchestrated manner. Drainage was a big issue with the installation of a drain box as part of the project. After this week's heavy rain and standing outside with an umbrella watching how the water flowed, I am glad to report all worked as planned. I am very pleased with Brian and will not hesitate to contact him again.
Description of Work: Driveway was in need of repair for a multitude of reasons. Instead of doing patch work and leaving an eyesore, the decision was made to repave the entire driveway. The drive is approxiamately 2,000 square feet.

Description of Work: I found this company on Angie's List. They repaired a portion of my driveway that was torn down when we lost a tree during a hurricane. They laid down additional asphalt in two places, about 150 sq ft each. And then they repaved my drive way that was fairly long.

Description of Work: I researched a number of asphalt paving companies in the Richmond Area. Having had a bad experience with a driveway job at my previous residence, I was more cautious this time. That was before Angie's List was available to me. I choose Absolute Asphalt in Glen Allen, VA. They have a web site at http://absoluteasphalt.org I spoke to the owner, Brian. He was a pleasure to work with. He assured me they would do a good job which he did. I was concerned about the mower-edge curbing on my gravel driveway and thought it might make the job more difficult. Brian was fine with it. I asked if he could extend some asphalt from the driveway to the front of my mailbox which he was happy to do at no extra charge. I watched his team work and they were all professional and polite. They took extra care around my white vinyl fence to insure no tar was splattered on it. It had rained a couple days before and as a consequence one of his trucks caused a rut in the dirt in front of the house. I told him not to worry about it but he insisted on fixing it. He went out and got topsoil and grass seed and took care of it. I have gotten many complements on the looks of the driveway and it makes me happy every time I look at it. I have no standing water or drainage issues. However, Brian said to call him if anything does crop up. I highly recommend them to anyone.

They had state of the art equipment and plenty of staff to complete the job in a more than timely.fashion. They arrived at our houise around 7:30 and the job was complete by 11:30. They worked like turks as the old saying goes. We are completely satisfied with their work.
Description of Work: we had a new drive way dug out and paved in front of our new 3 car garage in the rear of the house, and had another layer of asphalt applied to an exsisting curved drive on the side of the house.

Description of Work: I requested a sealing of my driveway. It took about a month due to two reasons. First, they had a equipment failure and was placed in the shop for about two weeks. Then the weather caused the job to be delayed some more. The delays were not their fault and it did not bother me whatsoever. But, once the job was complete, it was like WOW! They fixed some areas that was getting old and filled in the tire ruts near the entrance. I cannot say enough of how great the job was done. I will continue to use them for all areas of my driveway.

 + -1 moreRoxanne, Absolute Asphalts first point of contact, does a super job of communicating and scheduling. Brian, the business owner is timely arriving to give estimates and performing any work. Their equipment is very good. Absolute Asphalt added a 5' x 50' section of blacktop between my 9-year old existing driveway and our house, then applied a first-rate driveway sealer to remainder of driveway w/excellent results. I've used this company in the past for my driveway sealing needs and have been pleased with the end result. The owner enjoys BBB's highest rating due to performing good quality work, theirs costs are reasonable, and are licensed by VA/DPOR to do business in the commonwealth. I can't say enough good things about them and will be scheduling them again in 2 years to reseal my driveway.
Description of Work: Widened my residential driveway 5' x 50' and then laid asphalt. Sealed my existing driveway.

 + -1 moreAbsolute Asphalt was one of 4 bids I obtained for this work. They were the last and low bid and with the high rating I found on Angie's List I immediately signed a contract. On the date the job was to be done the crew arrived on time and due to the soil being too wet due to the week of heavy rainfall, it had to be postponed. Again, once rescheduled the crew and company owner arrived as promised. I observed the work as it was being done. Once the sod and soil was excavated beyond the existing driveway, the company owner discovered that a good sized part of the original driveway was resting on soft earth, he directed that that part of the driveway be cut out, soft soil removed to a depth of about 3 feet and back filled with gravel and paved with new asphalt. This was done at no additional charge. Everything agreed to was completed professionally with excellent attention to detail. The only glitch occurred when the bobcat operator disturbed a yellow jacket nest during excavation. Remarkably the crew worked through this nightmare and finished the job with only a slight delay. I am totally satisfied with every aspect of the work done and highly recommend this company .

Description of Work: They came in early that morning and were finished by lunch on a farily large driveway. They removed the old, re-graded and put down a rock base and layed new ashphalt. They did a great job cleaning up after the job and ensured that no trash remained.

 + -1 moreBrian and his crew were very efficient and meticulous in excavating my pea gravel driveway and replacing it with asphalt. The transaction went smoothly from the time I made contact through Angie's list until the job was completed and I handed Brian the check. I observed the progression of the work and everything seemed to go well. The only issue I had was that the sides look pretty ragged towards bottom (not the paving), but Brian advised me that I'd need to get a little bit of landscaping done, which he doesn't do. The paved driveway itself turned out great.

 + -1 moreWe were in despair because another company (John Docherty, working with Isaac and Hamilton Forrest--complaint filed) had improperly laid some asphalt and we had serious problems with it. Our estimator from Absolute came out and spent considerable time going over options with me. We agreed on terms for doing our entire driveway. They actually did the job a week earlier than scheduled. They arrived on time and were very respectful, going out of their way to please us. They brought a lot of equipment and did the job very quickly, but with incredible quality.
Description of Work: They removed some asphalt that was improperly laid. Then they laid asphalt on my entire driveway. My driveway is long and very complicated. They did outstanding work.

 + -1 moreI drew up an RFP with a detailed description of what I wanted along with a map. I sent the FRP to 3 reputable vendors. Brian's estimate was $3,000 less than one competitor and $12,000 less than the other. I asked about a drain channel in front of the garage. He said he's put it in for $1,000, but I didn't need it. He estimated the paved area to be 6700 sq feet. He later told me his estimate was exactly right. It looks great, drains properly and I didn't need a channel in front of the garage. When Brian came to do the estimate he told me that an older gravel driveway will have a good base so it doesn't need as much prep. The lowest bid came from the best vendor. He was the only one that understood the ramifications of paving a drive that had been gravel for over a hundred years. They did it in 1 day and did a great job! Brian really knows asphault! Recommend Absolute? ...absolutely!

 + -1 moreBecause this is a small repair project, Mr. Wood felt that I would be better off to use a smaller company because his minimum charge would be @ $500 because of the men & equipment he would have to employ. He felt a smaller company might be able to patch these dents with some asphalt at a cheaper price. I called Absolute because they have such great reports in Angie's List, but I have to appreciate Mr. Wood's honesty. He was a pleasure to deal with: nice, honest, knowledgeable, knows his stuff. I might consider using him if I'm unable to get a good cheap repair from another company that has also been recommended to me.
Description of Work: I met with Jay Wood. My problem was an asphalt sidewalk that has developed dents & crevices. Mr. Wood actually arrived earlier than the appt, after calling to make sure that would be OK. He theorizes that the dents & crevices could be the result of decaying tree roots, and that sounds credible to me because I had a tree root cut on the side of the sidewalk to avoid the opposite problem of the tree root rising up through the pavement.
