They did a fantastic job on our basement bunk bedroom. Tom and Tom were easy to work with, transparent, and demonstrated excellent craftsmanship.

“I contacted a home warranty service for a blocked drain in a bathroom sink that I was unable to clear on my own. Thomas arrived at my house in a very timely manner. When he arrived I found Thomas to be a very personable and knowledgeable person. Thomas was able to clear the blockage in a short time. Thomas was respectful of my home and he cleaned the work area well before he left. Thomas represented himself and the home warranty company very well. I will consider hiring Thomas for other jobs in the future.

The entire project was completed the way we discussed. Any questions or concerns were always addressed in a professional manner.

This father-son duo went above and beyond to ensure our needs were met and the communication throughout the project was what set them apart from other contractors we've used in the past. They were very transparent, honest, and dependable which made this an easy and trusting process. We couldn't be happier with how our bathroom turned out and would absolutely hire them again for future jobs.

We hired these gentlemen on the recommendation of one of our neighbors. She allowed me to go into her master bath and see the work they did for her. The big selling point for us was that they did exactly what she wanted. Her bathroom was perfect for her. We live in a 55+ active adult community in a Morten Model house and desperately wanted to get rid of that tub! When they came to give us an estimate, they listened to what we said without turning to speak to my husband when I asked a question (that is a big red flag for us). We were told up front if something was against code. Work started in January and they were finished in February (about 6 weeks.) There were a couple of adjustments from our end and they were receptive and helpful. They let us know when they wouldn't be able to work and why. They were polite, professional, friendly, and easy to work with. We purchased the bigger items like tile, vanities, toilet, fixtures, they provided all of the rest. The best thing about this entire remodel is we we got exactly what we wanted. We love our new master bathroom!

Absolutely excellent, beautiful new kitchen! Thomas Martins delivered on what we wanted in terms of a total kitchen flip. We have a beautiful new gourmet kitchen that looks like it belongs in an HGTV show. The workmanship is top notch. This kitchen is going to be at the center of decades of dinners and memories. Also there was a water leak above the kitchen. He identified the source of the leak as a poorly constructed custom shower. He gave us a VERY reasonable quote and repaired the shower in the same time window as the kitchen. Something you should know before booking. The company is father and son and those are the only guys working. So with that comes some considerations: - they had to outsource a structural drawing and structural work in order to remove a load bearing wall. The company they outsourced it to took their sweet time getting the engineering drawing done. This pushed the project back by a few unexpected weeks. Point is, if your job is complicated, there might be some outsourcing required which can lead to delays beyond your or Thomas Martins' control - as they are busy with many jobs and do not have a front office with a dedicated secretary, it will benefit you to be proactive in communication. But with the small company also comes some really great pros: - no crew. The only people working on your project are father and son. They are knowledgeable. And I've had work done with crews where the crewmen make a mistake and do not report it to the boss. I have to call it out in that case. No such with Thomas Martins. No crew means more accountability - no designer making promises they cannot fulfill. With some of the larger companies, you work with a dedicated designer who acts as an intermediary between you and the actual project manager. The problem with this model is the project manager understands the house infrastructure and the limitations which you must work around for your project. Every project has inherent limitations given the design and structure of the house. The designer generally does not understand these concerns. Since Thomas Martins is the actual guy hitting the hammer and rerouting the plumbing, he lays out what limitations you have to work with rather than make promises that cannot be realistically fulfilled - lower price. Without the overhead of a front office and several crews and specialists, the price point is far more reasonable than others - they only take on one big job at a time. They may work a half day job here and there whilst managing a huge kitchen or bathroom overhaul. But they will not be actively working on two different major jobs. The only natural conclusion to doing this is delays on two different jobs. So if you book them for a large job, know that you have their undivided attention. Again to reiterate. Our kitchen is gorgeous. The workmanship is top notch. I am so glad we booked Thomas Martins and I would recommend him for a kitchen job! Also. He has a great sense of humor too.

I can’t say enough about my satisfaction level (easily surpassed) by the services of Thomas Martin’s remodeling. My two-decades-old master bathroom sorely needed an up-do. Tom demonstrated the utmost reliability and professionalism right at the initial assessment/estimate and throughout the entire design/project completion. Tom re-designed my shower/tub combo with a beautifully tiled walk-in shower; replaced tile flooring as well as replacing vanity tops and installing additional lighting. I found Tom to be uniquely ‘on-top’ of the design, material ordering, scheduling and with excellent craftsmanship to produce an exquisite master bathroom. Tom made this major overhaul an easy and hugely rewarding home-upgrade.

Tom did an excellent job. We have our dream bathroom now. Could not be happier with the entire process and result.

This is the first time we have hired a contractors who did what they said they would do, showed up when they said they would show up, kept promises, completed jobs on schedule, and didn’t nickel and dime us until we were blue in the face. Tom and Tom Jr. were trustworthy, reliable, quality, helpful, and steadfast workmen who I would gladly rehire to do any additional work in my home! Fantastic job! Thank you are not words enough. Tom and Tom were great at all aspects of this project. They came to meet us and discuss the scope of the project, giving us options we could do, and providing quotes for each. Once we selected our project, Tom sent us information on good places to pick out our tile, countertops, fixtures, etc. The work is beautiful - they did 100% of the work themselves over about 2 weeks. It looks exactly how we wanted it, and we haven't found anything even a little bit "off". Actually - there was a valve that was turned around (hot/cold swapped) and they came back and took care of it immediately when we asked. A final note - Tom noticed that our kids' bathroom tub knob/valve was leaking and dripping. He asked if we wanted him to fix it, and then ran out, got the part and replaced it for us for the cost of the part. Great guy and a great plumber/remodeler.

I would caution all against doing business with Tom Simon of Thomas Martin Custom Remodeling. The job done at my mother's condo in Leesburg, VA was, and remains, problematic. Having paid in excess of $60K for a full remodel, Tom and his son, also named Tom, walked away from the job without completing the final "punch list," as Tom called it (the final list of odds and ends to be completed after a walk-through). More problematically, the job was complete, according to Tom with major issues left unattended. For example, Tom did not do his due diligence in the building prior to ordering appliances; only after installing a front-loading washer/dryer set, did he realize that he could not move plumbing to allow the front-loading doors to opposite each other. When asked to replace the machines, he suggested we move the hoses, which was in strict violation of condo policy. His workmanship is careless, and his principles are dubious. Another example considers the guest bathroom. Once again, Tom did not do his due diligence and ordered a stock bathroom vanity without accounting for the clearance of one set of drawers closest to the door and its framing. As a result, three drawers of this vanity were unable to open. This problem should have been corrected as soon as the cabinet was installed and prior to marble being installed, but instead, Tom allowed the marble to be installed, and then refused to replace the cabinet. As such, he placed plastic rubber bumpers on the door frame that prevented the drawers from hitting the door frame and from opening completely. The drawers did not open and were rendered unusable. He ultimately cut the edges of the drawers off to provide the necessary clearance - and did so in a manner that left the drawers uneven, unfinished, and unpainted. I would also add, he did this without contacting me for approval or consent. As a last example, when my mother asked him to tighten the toilet paper dispenser in her master bath, he removed it completely from the wall, spackled over the holes drilled in the wall, leaving a patch of discolored spackle or paint that does not match her wall - not to mention no toilet dispenser. Again, he did this without my approval or consent. These are only a few of the multiple examples of the poor quality work Tom Simon performed at my mother's condo. The list is extensive and our family is pursuing action against Tom Simon and his company through the Virginia Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation. Pending this judgement, we will pursue legal action to remediate these issues and the many, many others that were left behind. Tom Simon is unprofessional, inexpert, uses low quality products (even when specific products are directed), and is unscrupulous in his character and dealings. Do not be fooled by his charming manner and his claims of character as signaled by military service and Christian faith. My 81 year old mother's condo is proof that he is unworthy of future clients' trust and certainly not their hard-earned money. I welcome Tom's commentary to this review and should he be willing to remediate these issues, I would happily change my review.

They did a beautiful job and were pleasant to work with.

Tom Simon and his son took on my kitchen remodel while I was out of town for a family emergency. They were very responsive to questions and gave me great advice. They took care of issues that arose unexpectedly when i was not available. When I returned, I found the work to be just what I wanted. I will definitely hire them to complete other remodeling jobs for me.

I purchased a coupon for 2hrs of plumbing work. Had to prod several times by email before getting them to come out. Two individuals arrived as scheduled - one of them handed me a card which said Thomas Martins does custom remodeling, with no mention of plumbing work. I explained what I needed done - they did it and departed, in about 15mins. I half-expected an offer to look around and check out this or that as long as they were on-site and their time was paid for, but that didn't happen. In retrospect I suspect the plumbing offer was a way to get into the house and upsell their remodeling business, but my bathroom had been remodeled relatively recently and probably was a disappointment.

This project could not have gone more smoothly, from order to scheduling to install the process was seamless. When Tom and Tom arrived, they were on time, courteous, professional and very efficient. While here I asked for help swapping out a shower head and without hesitation, the task was accomplished. I offered to compensate for this ‘extra’ service but Tom said it was quick and easy so no charge. I have been looking for a good plumber for over 15 years without success. I hit the jackpot when I found Thomas Martins! I highly recommend!!

I bought an Angie’s list coupon in December for 2 hours of plumbing labor. After initial outreach to ask for my patience because they were overwhelmed by the coupon response, I finally reached back out after not hearing back from them. A couple of appointments were set that I didn’t agree to taking because scheduling didn’t work. (They would offer a day, I would say no good and offer another, and would not hear back.) Several requests for new appointments have been ignored. As of now, I’m out $120 with no service performed. Emails and phone calls go unanswered. Should I hear from them and get work performed, I’ll update the review accordingly.

Great - we love the results! The Toms (Sr. and Jr.) gutted our kitchen. They removed wallpaper and painted; rerouted gas, electric, plumbing and vents and added additional lighting; removed old cabinets, sink, and granite counter tops and replaced with new, as well as creating a new pantry; removed hardwood flooring, including in dining room, and installed new hardwood. In addition to several small jobs, this was the second time we have used them for a major re-do, the first being a full remodel of the master bath. Their help in picking and acquiring the needed components as well as their advice on the aesthetic aspects of both projects have been invaluable and have made this a lot easier for us. We will be using them again in a few weeks to extend the kitchen flooring into our living room and study.

Company did not call, instead email to me ask what happen and weeks without actions

Contractor did not return my calls or e-mail, even when Angie's List intervened. I gave up.
