NORTHERN VIRGINIA FENCE CO

Northern VA Fence is one of the worst contractors I've had experience with. I called Monday, 12-May to set up an estimate for 4pm on Wednesday. Not only did they not show up, but I received no phone call as to why they didn't show up. I repeatedly callled the above number and received no answer or call back after leaving a voicemail. I followed up on Thursday during normal business hours to understand why they didn't show up and set up another appointment. I decided to give them another chance and thought maybe I'd get a better deal given the no-show the first time. So, I set up an appointment for 12:30pm on Saturday. Well, I'm sitting here at 1:00pm, and they still haven't showed up. I called at 12:35 to see if they were still coming or not, and it went right to Chris's voicemail. Again, I never received a follow-up phone call as to why they didn't show up. I'm shocked by the lack of professionalism and courtesy by this contractor. I refuse to give them another chance. I wouldn't go with them even if they were $2000 cheaper than the competition. Stay away from these guys, unless you like ambiguity or enjoy taking time away from work or family for estimates that don't happen.

He did not respond to follow up emails where I pointed out that he addressed me by the wrong first name. Estimate was given for 11 foot split rails, while I requested 8 foot round rails. Estimate included cement, which I explicity said was not needed for the fence posts. Non-weight bearing fence. This would be the 3rd rendition of this fence since 1973 and prior contractors did not use cement. I was able to locate the desired length and type of rails and informed him of this on 4/15/2014 and requested a new estimate based on my providing the fencing material and there being no need for concrete. He did not respond. Only response after the initial estimate was when I informed me his company was NOT selected for the job.

They were professional. They were detail oriented. I would use them in the future.

Chris, the owner of NOVA Fencing came very promptly after we contacted him for an estimate. He was pleasant and business-like in his approach and suggested that we have cedar paneling instead of pressure treated pine, saying that he could do that for the same kind of price. He provided a clear explanation of what he could do and gave us a price before he left. A written estimate arrived the next day confirming everything he had said. His was not the cheapest quote we received but it was well inside that of those we considered to be serious contenders amongst the five other companies who provided estimates. We felt that his bid represented the best value for money because: He wanted to to the job. He gave a clear explanation of what the job entailed and made sure that it matched what we wanted to have done. His suggestion to use cedar planks to make up the fence was a great enhancement because of the superior weathering, appearance and durability of that compared with pressure treated pine. His proposed time scale, was very acceptable, and the task began a day or two earlier than the estimate. The materials were delivered the day before his team arrived to build the fence. They were a pleasant and hard working bunch of young guys who all knew what they were doing. During the day several more members of the team arrived and pitched in. They all worked a long hours and finished everything the same day. Fortunately, the weather was kind. The standard of workmanship is high and we appreciate the attention to detail, like the selection of functional gate hardware that matched our requirement very well. The finished fence still looks very good at the date of writing this report 6 month later. In particular, there is no sign droop or sagging with the gates.
