MH Eades Inc

Well..not so good as Mr Huddleston came to estimate on May 2, 2016 and after approximately two to three weeks, I reached out to him to inquire if the estimate was complete. He related he had been out of town and unable to access his computer for 10 days. I then asked if perhaps the owner, Mike, could estimate it and he related he would check but regardless would get back to me on a Friday (the following Monday would be one month out). I never heard anything. I wrote to the owners, Mike and Debbie Eades and copied Jeff Huddleston on the email and related that I would like the estimate as it had been over a month and requested a response. No response. I then contacted the BBB and voiced a complaint. They attempted to contact them and received no response over the month so they closed it. I then sent another email relating it was poor business to come into someone's home for over an hour then not follow up with the estimate. Still no response. I then called to speak directly to the owner(s) to relate the poor business/professionalism. Ms Eades simply related she doesn't do estimates and would pass my "opinion" along. I related that I felt it would be everyone's opinion if there were no contact from a company in almost three months (this Monday, August 1). I do not recommend this company and obviously, even if by some chance they reach out with the estimate, I would never do business with them given the poor customer service. Such as shame because they had been recommended by a painting franchise and were nice at the home show where I met, but afterward showed poor professionalism and customer service. As you can tell, I hold customer service very high on the business principle list. Simply communicating that they would be delayed on the estimate would have been acceptable--actually, any communication!

A comedy of errors from the get go. Costly errors. We live out of the area and thought that we were hiring a competent, trustworthy builder who could remodel our former rental home into a home for us to enjoy during the summer months. The job entailed gutting the kitchen and bathroom, building a dormer to include a master bath, and install new windows throughout. . He subcontracted the work out to men who had substandard knowledge of their craft. Not sure that they were licensed. Phone calls were not returned in a timely fashion . Installed a second air conditioning unit without informing us.( 5000.00) . We moved into the house despite the chaos in an attempt to stamp out fires as they flared. The master bath tile wall had to ripped out three times because the tile guy couldn't center the wall faucet. The shower lip was built so it sloped into the bathroom floor as opposed to the drain - this occurred in both new bathrooms. Really? Really. It took weeks for him to address that problem. As I said, he couldn't have inspected the work as it progressed. When it came time to power wash the exterior of the house and stain the siding, the dirty power wash waste water poured into the dormer windows and sliding doors. No flashing had been installed. Three summers later: The tiled bathroom shower? There are cracks in the shower tile and the rubber bladder is leaking, FLODDING , the basement bathroom located below. ) The shower is UNUSABLE. This is a summer house and this a guest shower so in three years it's been used a maximum of 50 times. MIKE EADES WILL NOT FIX THE TILE SHOWER STALL. WE ARE STUCK WITH THE ENTIRE COST OF REPLACING THE TILE AND BLADDER assuming a bladder was installed.

Roofer installed the solar tube in the wrong spot and Mr. Eades corrected the mistake at no cost to the customer. I appreciated the professionalism and excellent advise on where the best location of the solar tube and sizing of the solar tube. It looks great and now works properly. The cupola looks fantastic. All the work done by MHEades over the past 4 years has been excellent, on time and within budget. We have a beautiful well built home because Mike Eades is sincerely a quality based person who likes to build beautiful homes.

landscaping had to be redone, laminate floor install was very bad, has to be redone. I filed a complaint with D.P.O.R. and they took his license away and fined him. All of his subcontractors are to be licensed and insured. If you hire him check all licenses and insurance.

1-Foundation The foundation was set to High. We had to have a 3ft. Deck in our garage to get into the house. Mike Eades said he would fix it but, he lied. Our cars are on a slope in the driveway, we should have a nice level place for a basketball net but the back fill and garage foundation cut out did not work like he said. He also said he would put a rock face on all the foundation showing and cheated us out of that because he took longer than the bank wanted and at crunch time gave us a pittance of refund for it. One year later it has extremely cracked floors, and we had to pay for dead tree removal because he left roots exposed for too long and had some trees buried. Just after we moved in we had to pay for someone to fix Eade's driveway and house drainage. We still have an issue in the back because it is not sloped away from the house properly. The common theme would be us telling him what he did wrong and him halfway fixing it. We did get him to put the retaining wall in, only through doing some of the trenching on our own. 2- Trusses and over all integrity. MH Eades must have cash flow problems because the work would come in batches, then nothing. The length of time to get it under roof meant water sat for a long time. The other issue was he did not follow through with 84 lumber's truss plan. The inspector caught it and made him put a beam in the basement. We made him go back and put a footer under it. He would have just left the load on the already cracked basement floor. The lesson here is we should have had a truss page in the plans. the main floor is very bouncy. A glass of water will spill if too full and a kid walks by. 3-Plumbing His choice of plumbers caused many delays and we had to go back and fix the leaking sink that damaged the cabinet. We also have a septic smell in the laundry room. We wanted a gas water heater and he tricked us into the electric one. Most of the fixtures were loose. We made him come back and fix a crimped line to a toilet. The toilets had to be adjusted to flush properly and not flow all the time. We made him go back and dig up the basement ruff in he forgot about. He hired a guy to dig the trench to the house and well vent. We put a string to show where the vent should go, with no contractor management he trenched it in the opposite direction. We had to get a water system after he left because the well had to much iron. That is not his fault, but the point is he just did the minimum and did not watch out for us. Mike Eades only watches out for himself. 4-Options We looked at a house MH Eades was almost finished with before we went with him and we asked for a roof just like it. He was going to put on one with screws and not the standing seam, because it was 10k cheaper. The allotment for floors and fixtures was way too low. He adds in his labor and cheats you so you have to overrun it from the contract price. 5-Insulation The Loft was going to be done wrong and would have been damaged by super heating, we had a real hard time getting that through his head. It has holes in the insulation. He told us he was going to use the spray in insulation but used the pink fiberglass in some places. It is another example of how MH Eades will tell you what you want to hear and his cheap, half way, not managed properly way comes through. 6-Drywall I will cuss MH Eades for ever due to the nail pops, cracks, and tape seams. We had him come back, but enough is enough. 7- Cleaning We cleaned the house. Every time MH Eades comes we have to 'field day ' the house. He gets drywall dust in the wood floor and paint splashes...ect ect. It is just awful. 8- HVAC & fire place We worked with the vendors directly. We got these major issues fixed due to our hard work and persistence. At this point we knew we were not going to get help from MH Eades. 9-Earthcraft certified One reason we hired MH Eades is because he was going to provide a Earthcraft certified home. Towards the very end we ask about the certification and he said the standards changed. It seems that we should be able to grandfather into the old standards. He said he would pressure test the house to ensure the air leakage and get Energy star rated. I guess we would have to keep bugging him to get this done. Summary At this point we despise having to communicate with MH Eades. It is always a hassle. The problemt is getting him to show up, this takes a while. You have to get through the no responses, excuses and delays, it is always something. Eades cannot blame the subcontractors for this problem. The Captain goes down with the ship, the head coach & or general manager gets fired first! We have a livable home only because we had a game camera and were a pain in his tail. We should have talked to more people he dealt with before building with him.
