Their service was fine. However, I feel I did not get a good deal on the price because my neighbor had her roof installed for cheaper.

I contacted the Roofing Company and schedule an estimator (Chuck) to come out on 3 Oct, 2012. That part went fine. The customer service person was professional and courteous. On 3 Oct, 2012 Chuck arrived within the timeframe specified. His attitude, however, left much to be desired. He was very arrogant, quick to point out how busy the company was, and how they worked with WAVY10 "on your side" etc, but tapdanced around answering specific questions. I had the feeling he felt superior to me, a mere female that wouldn't possible understand even if he took the time to explain. He even made the comment, "I don't give estimates, I tell you exactly how muc h it will cost. And don't worry about that, we'll get you the money, we have plenty of finance options." He seemed very annoyed when I asked him to show me several of the "problems" he encountered. Despite my reservations, I made an appt. for Chuck to come back on 15 Oct, 2012 to meet with my husband and I to discuss options. At 2:30pm I called the Roofing Co, because I had not received an appt. confirmation which I had expected especially since it was a Monday appt. and part of what I consider good customer service. The gentleman I spoke to said that because Chuck had made the appt. himself, customer service didn't do appt. confirmations. I said that was unacceptable to me, and would he please call Chuck and confirm that Chuck did indeed have us on his schedule for the agreed upon time of 4:30pm. If he did not or was not able to keep the appt., I asked that the rep. call me back to reschedule. By 5pm Chuck had not showed up nor had I heard back from the customer rep. I called again and reached their messaging service. I left a message that I please be contacted by a senior supervisor or manager as soon as possible. 24 hrs later I still have not heard from anyone from the Roofing Company. Needless to say, I don't recommend them and their unprofessionalism has cost them about $50k in revenue.
Description of Work: I found the Roofing Company through Angie's List at the beginning of October. We needed an estimate from a qualified roofer rather than a generic home inspector regarding the current status of the roof and a timeline for replacement. 5 years ago we were told the roof had ~10 good years remaining by the home inspector.

Went very well---work was finished in just 2 days, the company cleaned up everything and has checked back with us to be sure roof doing great---which it is. The warranty is transferable to the next owner and shingles will stay on in a 120 mph winds. The estimates were professional and all the employees were personable. I would highly recommend this company.

I called this company up to get a free estimate on my leaking roof that i have. They came out very quickly and when he got here he did do a very good look over on where the leak could possibly be coming from. Took pictures and all. was very accurate on finding the leak and the holes i have on my roof as well very quickly. Overall i liked that he knew what he was talking about and found out the problem very quickly. These guys are a little on the pricey side though for just patching up a few small holes that won't take long. Also at the end when he was putting his ladder away he asked me what i wanted to do and i said for right now i just wanted to see how much a job like that would be so i can start looking to save up the money for it. Now i don't know if it was me or what but he kind of came back at me with a snappy remark and then just drove off. Didn't leave a business card his name or a paper estimate for me. I thought that was kind of rude and not very professional on his part.

We are very happy with our new roof and overall the service we got from the Roofing Company. Our only complaint is that the salesperson was too pushy. He tried too hard to make us sign the contract on his first visit and got upset with us when we wanted more time to think about it and the price. Apart from that, the contract work and quality of materials were great and the Project manager (Don) when out of his way to make sure we were satisfied.

We found the awesome coupon on Angie's list and that is why we researched this company. We went with The Roofing Company because of the coupon and we were impressed with the knowledge and personability of the representatives. Though we were dealing with our HOA they accomodated us and worked superbly to fit our situation. It was super that they got the work done sooner than we thought it would happen. It was amazing the house AND the shed were completed in one day. They did an great job cleaning up. Good attention to fixing the tar paper marks and a damaged screen. The roof looks great!

I do not usually give all A's in my reports (see other reports by me), but I am very pleased with the quality of their work. My roof looksbetter than those on new houses and I feel like I won't have to worry about leaks ever again. I have used The Roofing Company before for minor repairs (leaking roof and chimney flashing) and I was pleased with their work,so when I saw that Angie's List had a coupon for a complete roofing job, I decided to take advantage of it. I have a large complex roof (4200 square feet hip and valley) and it took 2 1/2 days to complete - they finished on Saturday morning. All workers behaved like professionals. There was no smoking. They cleaned up ALL trash. They replaced all bad wood.No shrubbery was damaged and I found only 4 nails - which were probably stuck in a corrugated down spout; I found them after ahard rain. I usually feel bad about spending so much money, but in this instance I feel like I got a great deal.

Took pictures, identified potential causes of problem, explained what they would do to fix it. Very pleased with all of that. What they wanted to do was way above and beyond what we thought needed to be done and very expensive. Even after I explained that we were going to sell the house soon. So obviously I don't want to spend a lot and do the fix that will change the trim color around the chimney so that it no longer matches the rest of the house. He explained that they do work above what code requires and conform to some roofing association standards, but he even said a couple of times that what they were going to do would be above what they require. While I appreciate all of that, I wasn't ready to spend over $1000 for a very small leak that we weren't totally sure where it was orginating from. I would have liked it a lot better if he had given ME the option of picking the level of what they were going to do to fix the problem. ie we could fix it to his "Mike Holmes" standard, or the roofing association standard, or to what VA code requires. In the end I went with a less expensive company that wasn't going to do the extensive work he was going to do to fix the leak. So far it is still holding and it was only $200 fix. On the other hand, I will definitly get an estimate from him and probably have him fix something on my house in the future. Or do an entire roof b/c I am pretty sure that it will be done correctly or better.

They came out and looked at my roof, but said that I would need to pay an additional $11,000.00 on top of the $5,000 Big Deal. The price was way too high and they would not go down. Correction: Seems there was a communication error between the estimator and me. The $11,000 estimate was before the coupon was added. This make the estimate more competitive and we are re-looking at the contractor again. Haven't made a selection yet.

I was generally pleased with their work. Actually, one of their salesmen had given me an estimate some time before, and then when I had a tree fell on my house, I knew I had to have a new roof anyway, so I called them to see if that estimate was still good, and it was, so I had them do the job. They did their work just as they advertised, and I think it was probably par for the course. I would recommend them to others. They could have tried to sell me a higher quality roof, but they didn’t, so I think they were good.

The experience was horrible! I have an older home in Newport News Huntington Heights area that is Circa 1920. The house incurred storm damage and or possible earthquake damage to an exerior wall that has stucco or dryvit on it. The wall has cracks and water has come in from outside when it rains. I called the Roofing Company and Chuck was the technician that was assigned to the task of providing me an estimate. On the day of our appointment he called 10 minutes prior to the appointment to say he was waiting on a part for his truck and needed to reschedule. I already had someone at the home waiting on him! I rescheduled for Friday at 10 am. On Thursday, I received a confirmation call from a young lady saying that Chuck would come at 9:00am although our prior appointment was for 10am. To be flexible, I agreed to the 9:00 am. I again arranged to have someone be there at 9:00 and Chuck was not there! I called the office and the young lady said she would call Chuck and call me back to again confirm. I did not get a call back. I called again and spoke with Ralph..who told me I had an appointment for 4pm! I told him no it is for today at 9:00 am. Then he asked me if I dialed the right company! Really?!!!! I told him that I got his company's name and number from Angie's List and that YES I dialed the right number! I explained to him that this is the second time this week that we have been inconvenienced. So, Chuck shows up at 10 am. I spoke with him on the phone. Very unprofessional!! He told me that they don't just give estimates and that a estimate would cost me $275! I told him that they do not advertise that there is a cost for the estimate. He then proceeds to tell me (after I mentioned State Farm is involved) that I need to let him know if I am going to give them the job, but not before he asked me, "How much money to do you want to spend?' My reponse was I need to know what you charge before I agree to give you the job. He also said the estimate would take 6 hours! "Six hours to look at one exterior wall?" I said. Then he says, "If you have estimates from someone else why don't you let them fix the house?" I told him that is none of his business and now I would prefer not to do business with you on any level! I then let him know that I plan to report my experience with his company to Angie's List and he said, "Fine"! Save yourself! These people are unorganized, unprofessional and act like they are just out to make a buck! When I spoke with Ralph he was not very accommodating either. He had a nonchalant attitude as if I was the problem when all I wanted was an estimate from a company that claims they are experienced in working on older homes. Not once did he or Chuck apologize for the mix up in the time of the appointment.

we sincerely apologize for the experience you went through. We have a very organized system within our company and it is rare that this happens. After doing some research , I discovered a clerical data entry error in our computer calendar, which had a snowball effect resulting in several miscommunications. The details resulting from that error follow: • The initial appointment letter sent to you did state 2 pm, but the appointment was actually scheduled in our calendar and Chuck's calendar for 4 pm. Thank you for calling on Wednesday, 5/2/2012 to confirm when that appointment was supposed to be. • It was at that time that Cara was asked by the receptionist to reschedule the appointment for 10 am. (This is also unusual and was the result of a truck issue that had to be taken care of) • When Ralph spoke with you, he was looking at the calendar, which was still scheduled at 4 pm because it hadn't been corrected yet. The inconsistent schedule times caused more confusion. From the initial phone call with Cara, she asked you about the work you were looking to have done. Chuck was given the following information, "Tracey or her son will be there to meet you. Stucco/drivit on exterior of home. When looking from the front of the house, on the right side the wall is bowed out from water damage. She also asked if we do sheet rock. She has an insurance claim for the upstairs bedroom and downstairs due to water damage." It is hard to tell if one damaged section of the home has anything to do with another before a trained consultant has examined it. Cara explained that the consultant would let you know if they are related, or if our remodeling division would need to become involved. Chuck confirmed that the two are related and because you have an insurance claim, we do charge $275 for an estimate*. However, if we repair the damage for you, that $275 is applied to the contract, and at that point the estimate becomes free. *We have a letter which explains this fee available, and do send it before the appointment is set when we know for sure that the estimate is for insurance or real estate sale purposes. In this case, that was not known prior to the appointment concerning the exterior of your home as related to the interior damage you were claiming. Again, we are sorry for the mixup with the appointment times, the estimate, and for the poor customer service you described you received. We do take great pride in our company; the staff, the services and the thorough workmanship we provide, and taking care of our customers.

Communication didn't go as smoothly as I had hoped at first. Although I got emails, I didn't talk to anyone until the day before the project start. However, once I got with the project manager, everything went very well. The workers were on time and professional, and the project manager was amazing. They completed my roof in one day, and took away all debris. I have a beautiful roof that is built to last and a superb guarantee. I would highly recommend this company, and I even ended up choosing their sister company to redo my bath.
Description of Work: I needed a whole roof replacement as my old roof was 30 years old. The salesman (Chuck) came in and gave me a very thorough yet succinct presentation. He didn't sell me more than I needed, and gave me 3 options. I chose the most expensive one, but one with the best guarantee. He impressed upon me the company's policy of communication before, during, and after the job, and I felt good about going with a local company that was thoroughly licensed, bonded, and insured.

Far too difficult to deal with for me to use them. Bait and switch sales approach - exceptionally high prices and no flexibility in negotiating at all. Present good, better, best options designed to push you toward most costly choice as the good and better are all explained as having serious shortcomings. And the "best" choice - whoo boy - eye watering price way out of line when compared against other roofers and I had several quotes from which to base this opinion. Biggest beef is lack of willingness to negotiate anything - take or leave it, we're high because we're the best and you'd be an idiot to choose anyone else seems to be their attitude. I did not use, would never use and do not recommend these overpriced folks. I ended up with a similar system from another local builder-contractor and saved several thousand dollars while working with someone much easier to do business with. The roofing company may - end of the day - do a quality job, they are way too expensive NSD DIF

We had our roof completely redone after finding out many short cuts were taking by the original builders. The house was built in 1997 and had several spots that had leaks. We had our insurance inspector come out and show us the embarrassing work that somebody had originally done and the reasoning the roof was in such bad shape. The Roofing company took 1.5 days to complete the project. The roof looks great and has quality written all over. The workers were very courteous. At the end of the work day our yard and deck were cleaned up and looked as if nobody had been doing construction. The Roofing Company comes highly recommended after our experience with them.

A corner of the plywood underlayment had warped and lifted away from the rafters about 3 inches, upsetting shingles and tearing tarpaper. The hole allows water to be blown into the attic. When the workers began work on the house they made the mistake of using the toilet which had no water to flush. Honest mistake, I tried to ask the workers to use another toilet, and point out no flushing water, but none of the workers spoke english, so I poured water into the toilet to manually flush it. I spoke to Don Wymer on the phone and asked that they use a different toilet. The next day, same thing, I noticed the house stunk as soon as I walked in the door because of the toilet being left unflushed. Again I called Mr Wymer. He said that he told them not to use it. It was not that big of an inconvenience to bring a bucket to pour down the drain, but on the third time it happened after asking nicely I was disappointed. Before the work was done I had asked Mr. Smith, Then Mr. Wymer for a quote on the rest of the roof because the shingles would not match the rest of the house, and I was considering doing it at the same time. For whatever reason, I never got that quote. After bugging on several occasions Mr. Wymer said he had talked to Jim Smith, who said he had given the quote, and it would have been about another $14,000. Knowing what I know now I'm just relieved I didn't contract them for the whole roof.
Description of Work: By far the most dishonest and unprofessional business I have ever dealt with. I chose The Roofing Company because I was impressed by Jim Smith's assessment of the work that needed to be done to the roof. The quote for the work was the highest of all I checked, but I was willing to pay more because Mr. Smith pointed out the extra work that needed to be done due to water damage and internal gutters. I wasn't quoted for the entire roof, only the top which had the damage. The quote was for $11,428.00, and the contract was signed 22 June, 2011. The contract stated the estimate of work was to start in 2 to 4 weeks, and completion from start 3 to 4 days. Neither happened. To this day, 29 September, 2011 the work was not finished and the roof still leaks. What is worse, I have paid in full, on time, as was agreed upon, and the roofers continue to say they will fix my roof- and they continually no show when they say they will be here. That is not the only reason I claim they are dishonest. Two weeks after signing the contract (which was very thorough about what work would be done, and what would cost extra- and there were many clauses that listed additional charges) I got an email from Jim Smith saying "Patrick Just a couple of things on contract that hit our firewall. The following items are a NO COST CHANGE ORDER: Line A #4 should read: The following proposal includes replacement of 25' of plank board. Line C. #2. We are not installing drip edge on rakes, and is not required for the 25 year manufacturers warranty....." I was concerned about the change order and wanted to confirm that it was "NO COST" as Jim smith wrote in capital letters. I called Mr. Smith and he re-assured me that 25' of plank would cover what needed to be done, it is just the way the contract needs to read, again he re-assured that it would not cost me any more money. I reluctantly agreed. I was upset when 1 week later I was informed that I would be paying more money for exactly what was written in the NO COST change order- over 25' of plank boards. I would not have complained at all if I got what I paid for, but I did not. Yesterday Don Wymer told me he was coming out to fix the problem. No only did he not show, but he didn't call or return my calls. This is not the only time this has happened. On Friday, 16 September he was scheduled to be there, no show, no call. When I called him he told me Monday, 19 September he would be there. Again, no show. This time he told me Jose' was held up on another job, but now he was on his way. Again, no show. I called Don Wymer, he said he didn't know why they didn't show...he was told they were on their way. He would check on it and call me back. No call back. Tuesday, 20 September Jose' did show up, but they didn't make any repairs, in fact, he caused more damage by chipping off portion of the porch roof with his ladder. This damage was clearly visible, so I pointed it out to Mr. Wymer. He agreed to patch where the porch roof was chipped, but has not.

Response from The Roofing Company
9/30/2011 Confirmation of Understanding (copies of contract and additional work orders available to support all information outlined below) June 22, 2011, contract signed July 5, 2011 written confirmation regarding the only plank board roof deck replacement included in the member’s contract was in the area of where the two (2) chimneys were being removed, this included 25 lineal feet of plank board decking. As stated in the member's contract any additional rotten wood replacement would be additional. July 19, 2011 Don Wymer, the project manager, met with the member to perform the pre-construction meeting on site. The purpose of the pre-construction meeting is to review the scope of work with the client to be sure everyone is on the same page prior to work starting. July 22, 2011 job started (even with weather delays, we still started the job within the window of time we stated in the contract) July 26, 2011, extensive wood rot was discovered in the framing area supporting the internal gutters. July 27, 2011, Don reviewed the additional repairs with our carpentry foreman and faxed over the additional written work order to the member office on July 28, 2011. July 28, 2011 the member approved the additional written work order August 5, 2011 all work was completed to include the additional carpentry repairs August 6, 2011 the member reported several leaks August 8, 2011 Don met the member on site and several leaks turned into only one (1) small drip on the front right, exterior soffit area of the member's house. Don inspected the drip area and took pictures of the small drip. August 11, 2011 another layer of coating was applied in the internal gutter area, on the front right side of the member's house directly above the drip area August 25, 2011 payment in full September 22, 2011 the member reported a small drip in the same area. Don met the member on the same day. The member's house completely gutted and vacant at this time, so Don climbed up into the ceiling framing (no sheetrock in house at this time) and Don found a small gap at dripedge. September 29, 2011 Don sealed the gap at dripedge outlined above. As outlined above we have communicated with the member on an on-going basis.
