SCYS Kitchens and Baths has a nice showroom. After passing it repeatedly, I called for a consultation on my bathroom to change the tub to a walk-in shower and re-tile the floor. It took several weeks to get a call back. Michelle came to my home to take the initial measurements and a week later I went to the showroom to discuss tiles and pricing. I remember telling both Michelle and Tom that I wanted lower-budget tiles so that I could put more money into a frame-less glass door. The cost was close to $6,000 in three payments (the first of which was due that day) and Tom said it would take a week. He started the second week in January and it took him 6 weeks to finish. He requested the final payment before the job was complete, but I refused. He came that day to finish the project and receive his last check. Tom was the only person who worked on the walk-in shower until the very end, when he had someone come in to do touch-ups. During the six-week installation, Tom was sporadic about coming. He said he would arrive on a certain day or time, but at least half of those commitments were not kept. By the end of the six weeks, I was happy with the look of the tile on the floor and the walk-in shower. While it was not part of the initial agreement, he did put a small nook for shampoo and soap in the shower and a small seat, and I was thankful for this. Within three months, the grout on the seat was cracking and the shower door (which was not frame-less because, according to Tom, there was not enough room in the narrow bathroom for any thing other than a sliding door) was coming off the track in some places and sticking in others. I left several messages on the SCYS phone and eventually received a return call. Tom and an associate came to the house to see the cracking grout and problems with the sliding door. They said they needed to order some supplies and would come fix it. Two months later and still no visit from them. The grout on the seat continues to crack and now there is cracking on the small step that the sliding door sits on. I called again and Tom said he thought his associate had taken care of the problems. He would be over that day to fix it. He did not show and it has been two weeks with no response. I will never again just walk into a showroom and sign a contract without first checking references and Angie's List!
