I consider it a great privilege to leave this review for RLC contracting. Rick and Linda Jenkins are true professionals and your satisfaction is their goal. We had them convert half of our garage into a laundry/utility room. With my husband and I getting older,we made some renovations to our home to enhance out ability to remain here for a long time. Our laundry was located in the garage and we had to schlep baskets up and down cement steps. It became apparent this wasn’t going to last too much longer. So we contacted Rick and Linda and they assisted us in the process of being able to “age in place”. Both are very knowledgeable in this area and were great resources. Rick was highly complimented by our local building inspector and Linda runs a tight ship. We were informed of each step of the process and the craftsmanship is outstanding. We love our new laundry room and with the COVID-19 we loved having a place to put extra supplies. Towards the end of that project, we approached them about building a deck on the back of the house. Again, flawless craftsmanship. And again, as the building inspector stood on the deck, he told me how impressed he was with the work that had been done. Yeah. It’s that good. We would not hesitate recommending RLC Contracting to anyone and would delight in the opportunities to do so. We are thrilled with our new room and the huge deck that now grace our home.

This company took a week to even call back, and was certainly rude on the phone. They basically suggested that I hire a uninsured handyman, as my 3 jobs were too small for them, therefore I was not within their scope of work. I wasn't looking for them to finish the remodel (I haven't picked color to paint bathroom which I why I said I wanted the part of the job to be done it up to the tile). They made me feel super unwanted on the phone, I promptly told them when I get a bigger job like my kitchen remodeling I would be sure not to call them. I have no idea what quality of work they do, but my phone experience was so appalling, I honestly wouldn't want to invite a company like that into my home. Sometimes you have to be more about customer service that just trying to get the "big jobs so you can pay your insurance of your company", I assure you no future customer wants to hear that.

Apologies for making you feel super unwanted. When we spoke you indicated you had a contractor come out to deal with an issue pertaining to your bathroom floor. You related that he had pulled out the flooring down to the sub-floor which was now exposed and needed to be closed up as he did not return to finish the job; and you told me "don't ask". You also mentioned the additional tasks you wanted done and indicated your husband wanted an estimate broken out by task as he may do some of them himself. As is our practice with every contact, we qualify the potential client using several criteria, among them: is the work something we do as part of our business model; will we be able to complete timely with our work load and staffing; and there is also just a "temperature" we take. I made the determination that that your projects would not be a good fit for my company based on these and other factors. I did suggest you contact a company that is more geared toward handyman services as they may be a better fit. I did not, and would never, suggest hiring anyone uninsured. Again I apologize for making you feel super unwanted. Given my experience I should have been able to hear the agitation in your voice as you spoke over me when I tried to explain our process and been better able to explain our position in not pursuing your business. The biggest clue came when you told me you no longer had time to speak to me as you had better things to do and then hung up. We are committed to longevity in our community, customer service and satisfaction, and have a work ethic that is stellar. But sadly we live in a time when folks choose to take out their frustration by writing a negative "review" because they feel hurt and unwanted. I do understand, life can be tough. This is my company, it is my livelihood, and a source of pride for myself and my family who run it. RLC Contracting Company is a Class A licensed contractor through VA DPOR, the state agency that regulates our industry and as required by state law. We carry workers compensation and general liability insurance. We hold business licenses in every locality in which we do business, as required by each locality. We obtain permits for all work as required by law. Our company is a Lead Safe Certified Renovator via the EPA, and all of our employees are trained in lead safe work practices and hold certificates as such. We also hold certifications through the National Association of Home Builders in Aging in Place and remodeling. We have been active in our local builders association, remodelers council, and women in building council for 10+ years. We have partnered with our local remodelers council to organize and execute community projects, two of which the council received national awards. We work with Habitat for Humanity building and renovating homes to help people live their American dream. For the record we do jobs of all sizes and scopes, we just choose not to do all jobs. We love what we do and the people we work for with whom we share a mutual respect. Life can be tough, but it is what you make it and we have chosen to make it by working hard in our business, our community, and with our family.

We set an appointment for March 11, which she cancelled (the day of the appointment) by email. She never emailed back or called to reschedule. I contacted her by email and phone on April 3 and again on April 17. No answer or response. I am wondering if they are still in business.

Thank you so much for posting this here [Member Name Removed]! We have had the perfect storm of technology issues and personal events that have caused us to miss many connections, apparently more than we were aware of. I assure you we are still in business and that this is not indicative of our way of doing business; situations beyond our control have impacted us adversely. No excuses, life is not perfect, and we get that! As I recall you had sent some pictures of your kitchen and were looking for some design ideas as you were stumped - we can do that...if you wish. Your frustration is valid and totally understandable; thank you for reaching out via this forum to get our attention! We would be happy to have the opportunity to chat; my cell phone number is 757-592-8386 (which seems to be working just fine!) if you would like to give us a second chance! My personal apologies once again!! Linda Jenkins

Rick and Linda went overboard to do an outstanding job at a reasonable cost. They took great pains to assure that the site was cleaned every day and to stay on schedule. Their costs for each element of the project were completely transparent. Linda is a "Certified Aging in Place Specialist" as well as a "Certified Graduate remodeler which went all a long way to generate a perfect outcome in both construction and design. Rick is an excellent worker and manages to find a creative solution no matter how complex the issue.

On both occasions, Rick was punctual and very professional. The price paid was the original contract price and I am very satisfied with quality of the work, and the total professionalism displayed. The materials were of high quality, to the extent that the repainting of the cladding (T111) was a perfect match with the existing color, and the lumber used on the deck railing was of a very high quality.
Description of Work: RLC was contracted on two separate occasions to 1) repair part of the outside cladding of the house for a cost of approx $3500 and 2) construct a rail around the deck at the back of the house for insurance purposes, for a cost of approximately $2300.

Our house looks wonderful and we were very happy with the service we received from RLC.
Description of Work: We discovered that we had water in our crawl space. We had all of the insulation replaced, the plastic liner replaced and a pump installed. In addition to this, RLC did a major remodel of our townhouse- new bathrooms, updated kitchen, wood floors. What we especially appreciated is their ability to custom make corner cupboards, a shelf for our blu ray player, our mantel and bathroom cabinets.

Rick and Linda were amazing. Rick is so talented -- his woodwork is absolutely beautiful. All work was done to code -- never any issues with inspections. For the most part the subcontractors used were professional and also did amazing work. As I wasn't on site most of the time, Linda made sure every detail was fully discussed before execution. The plans for the kitchen went back and forth many times, to include a layout drawing on the floor which was extremely helpful before I made the final commitment. The only exception was the HVAC contractor, who did a great job with the system, but did not coordinate before making an aesthetically unpleasing installation which had to be changed (Linda took care of that) and also left a mess in the room (which I cleaned up). The work did take longer than anticipated, but that was likely due to unforeseen complications which needed to be remedied (original footers which were not to standard and therefore had to be replaced; cement walls still resident in the original house which needed to be removed before lifting; etc). The price was probably higher than other contractors, but the value was tremendous. Completely trustworthy I used RLC before this major work and will use them in the future.
Description of Work: General contractor for elevating the house 10 feet and remodeling the kitchen and first floor as well as the new ground floor; addition of French doors to the second floor; extending the HVAC to accommodate the increased area; adding a 3 story deck. Rick also did the majority of the woodwork associated with the project.

Rick and Linda are consummate professionals and became just like part of our family. Ever mindful of our needs, the workspace was cleaned each and every night before departure. We were without use of our kitchen sink, oven and stove for a bare minimum time. Always on time and always accommodating to our changing design ideas. When we saw Rick and Linda at a home show in Hampton a year later our two granddaughters ran up to hug Miss Linda and Mr. Rick!!! As we entered the final week of the project Rick and Linda came out and we went over every inch of the kitchen, dining room and family room that was remodeled and 100% of our comprehensive punch list was completed ahead of schedule. Good neighbors up the street were so impressed at the amount and quality of work they contracted RLC for a house addition weeks after our work was done. My wife and I could not have asked for a better remodeling experience and we will DEFINITELY use RLC again when we tackle the remodel of two of our bathrooms.
Description of Work: We contracted RLC for our kitchen remodel and we enjoyed a tremendous experience! Linda gave us design recommendations and Rick skillfully made modifications as our kitchen transformed into our dream kitchen. In all, RLC installed bamboo flooring in kitchen and dining room, replaced our old cabinets with semi-custom cabinets, installed a granite countertop, installed a deep stainless steel sink and new faucet, installed an over the range microwave; installed new dishwasher and oven; installed new recessed lighting and more. Our kitchen is now a thing of beauty and has functionality we never enjoyed before.

I met Rick and Linda Jenkins at one of the home expo shows that take place in the area throughout the year. There was something about the way they interacted with me that caught my attention. I felt very comfortable in their presence, not pressured and certainly not 'handed a line'. After reviewing the information on their website, I knew that I wanted this company to give me a bid on the work that needed to be done on the gable vents of my house. I called and made an appointment. They arrived promptly at the schedule time, asked for permission to return to do a more thorough investigation of the scope of work, and kept me informed of the process every step of the way. Rick clearly explained the choices I had: wood, vinyl, or PVC as replacement materials. He explained the pros and cons of each so that I had the information needed to make the most appropriate decision. Linda provided the quotes for the two options I was interested in (wood and PVC). She was available to answer every question clearly. I was able to make a decision with no pressure to move into a higher priced option. The work was scheduled and completed within the specified time frame. If I hadn't been here on the day the work was done, I would never have known that work had taken place on my house or in my yard--other than seeing new, freshly painted gables. All construction material was cleaned up, no damage was done to either the house or the landscaping. There wasn't even a stray drop of paint that escaped the brush! I am very happy that I chose RLC Contracting Company to make this repair on my house. I found the Jenkins' to be professional, open, and very easy to deal with. They communicate clearly and in a timely manner. They live the values outlined on their website: honesty, clear communication, valuing relationships, doing high quality work. These qualities seem to be rare in today's business environment. I will definitely be contacting them for future projects.
