JUST FLOORED INC

Several significant issues were encountered when having hardwood floors installed by Just Floored, Inc. at 363 Fenwick Rd., Building 261, Fort Monroe, VA 23651. After completing the installation process, Just Floored, Inc. departed the premises leaving a 3 foot gauge, a one foot scratch and a four inch scratch on my hardwood floor for my wife and I to find. The installation crew placed furniture over the gauge before leaving. After we complained, the company returned a few days later for what we thought would be an estimate of damages and a consultation on ways to remedy the problem. My wife and I soon determined that they were cutting our new wood floor and patching it without our approval (written or oral approval). We later determined that the attempted to repair the floor made the issue much worse by: 1) Sawing planks in the house without encapsulating the area which allowed hardwood dust (a known Class 1 carcinogen) to enter the room and ventilation system. This later caused respiratory issues for both my wife and me. 2) Putting nails directly through the face of planks to keep them in place after patching damage they caused (not a professional practice). Will also cause issues if we decide to screen or refinish the floors. 3) Patching a NEW floor by stripping the tongues from the wood, which eliminated the manufacturer's tongue and groove system. Based on the final bill, Just Floored insists that the damage they caused, the patched floor, and additional damage made during the attempt to repair the floor constitutes a brand new hardwood floor. 4) Ignoring Eastern Flooring's (the hardwood manufacture) "STRONG" recommends to use "adhesive in addition to the proper nailing schedule when using 5 inch or wider planks." Just Floored did not consult with the owner before deciding to use what they considered a cheaper method of installation. 5) Leaving an uneven plank and making additional scratches during the repair process. 6) Even though Eastern Flooring requires installers to provide warranty information, floor care information, the product name and code number, Just Floored insists that they cannot provide the code number for the wood. 7) After the initial attempt to repair the floor, my wife and I identified more issues. The installers immediately removed equipment from their vehicle and attempted a second repair. I stopped them immediately after noticing the dust in the room from the first attempt and that they were going to saw the hardwood floor again without respirators and without encapsulating the space. During the initial repair attempt, I was in another part of the house and started feeling ill and suspected it was because of the dust. I reported the issues to the company. 8) The installation process prevents a door from closing properly because it makes contact with the floor.

I called around, got estimates and then when the owner came around to give us the estimates, he won me over. His knowledge of his product, his knowledge of installation and just making me feel comfortable. He won us over with his knowledge of the job and professionalism. We shopped around and they were definitely very affordable. I recommend them to friends as well.

The people who were to remove the old vinyl did not show up at designated time. I called and was informed the worker did not have my job on his calendar and will be over the next day (one day of leave burned). Work was to be accomplished Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, 21 - 23 May. I was called later (laughter) and informed Rick Lassiter would be over to do the work, that 4 people quit at the same time, but now it will be accomplished Thursday, Friday and Saturday (the day I have to get all my running around done, cats to the Vet, etc.) I agreed because I had committed the leave; Rick would be at my house between 9 and 10 AM to get started. At 1030 I phoned and was told he was running late and was on his way. I told receptionist to call and tell him not to come (another half day of leave burned). My day begins at 4 AM. At 1030 or 1100, the day is shot. Just Floored has a good reputation, which is why I called them. I know people can quit. I don't understand how a project that had been planned for almost a month fell off someone's calendar and that confirmation of work wasn't reviewed beforehand. I don't know why the receptionist was amused at my inconvenience and failed to keep me informed of the entire situation. I had to call her. I found Rick Lassiter very personable and I hope his staff and crew can get their act together soon for his sake. I am not writing off Just Floored entirely, which is why I indicated I might use them in the future.

They refinished our hardwood floors on the first and second floor. They also refinished our stairs and put new oak quarter rounds along the floor. The owner was very friendly and professional. I would highly recommend him and would use them in the future.
