I would like pass on a great story—not a complaint! I was on I664 enroute to work in Suffolk, VA from Hampton recently and then I noticed a softball sized rock fly out of the back of a large dump truck located one lane to my right. The rock hit my windshield directly in front of me on the driver’s side. It did not go through the windshield, however it did leave damage the size of a dinner plate. I noted that the truck slowed and I pulled next to him and pointed to my windshield. The dump truck driver, Mr. Joe Parker and I pulled over to the emergency lane. I really did not have to say anything as the driver apologized and called his boss to ask what to do. His boss, Mr. Mike Canady of Coastline Enterprises, Inc., Hampton, VA said for me to send him an estimate or the bill and he would cover the repair cost. I got an estimate of $352.00 and called their phone number and received an out of office message. Of course I’m thinking that nobody will call me back—they legally don’t have to pay for the damage. Mr. Canady’s wife Renee called me back a few days later and asked me to fax the estimate to her and she would send me a check. I did just that, and Renee called me later that day and asked if I would like her to bring the check to my house as we live very close to each other. When I got home from work that day, the envelope with the check was already there. I had my windshield repaired on Friday—the incident with the rock happened on Monday. It only took five days from windshield damage to completion of the repair! I called them and thanked them for doing something they literally did not have to do. However, I also wanted to convey my appreciation for their honesty, integrity, promptness, and credibility in handling this matter. Renee responded that “it was the right thing to do”. Wow, that is the way we should all treat each other! Please let the public know how Coastline Enterprises, Inc., the Canady’s, and Mr. Parker do business in our area. Everyone should take note that if this is how they managed this incident, they have to be completely awesome in doing day to day business with the public! It was truly a breath of fresh air to have an unfortunate situation handled in a civil, friendly, and seamless manner.
