Mr Handyman of Richmond

Will not be using Mr. Handy Man again. We were originally quoted a certain amount of money for two days of work. Upon arrival, they realize the quote was wrong and work was much less intensive and only 3 hours worth vs. two days. They still billed us about what we were initially quoted even though the work was way less intensive and time consuming. Getting a fair bill has been like pulling teeth and our final bill is still seemingly unfair and very overpriced. The man who came out to do repairs was very kind and did a nice job, so nothing against him. But financially, this has been an overall negative experience and I do not feel as I can trust this company to charge fairly and do right by customers.

Ok. Nice person. Did not go over quoted fee. Entire job was not timely. Would use again.

Mr Handyman's technicians always arrive on time and do their work expertly and efficiently. I had a number of things that needed work on and he did a great job on everything. I really like the fact that Mr Handyman will pick up needed supplies at the store for me. In addition to great technicians, Mr Handyman has a great office staff. An all around good experience.

They do not even come out for a quote, they expect you to start paying up the second they arrive because they start work. So I am just supposed to blindly follow them and do not even get a chance to deliberate with other providers? So you come out, charge my by the hour, spend the first 30min doing the quote and estimate and meanwhile I am paying for all that so you do not actually start work til half and hour in and I was paying (i think they said hourly was 120) so I was paying $60 just for you to talk and examine the problem? Does not seem fair at all.

We asked to get a quote and when the woman called she told me that they didn't do quotes that they would charge me $146 just to come out to my house no matter whether I contracted for the work to be done or not they would make $146 off of me. I would never pay someone to give me a quote on work that I am paying for that is idiotic in my opinion especially when everyone else gives free quotes. I WOULD NOT recommend this service I would rather pay more to someone else to do the job than pay for a quote just on pricipal

I put in two requests-for-quote on Tuesday 15 January. Within hours, Mr. Handyman of Richmond responded to my requests--and to this date the other two have not. The description by the telephone receptionist impressed me from the beginning: one company, not a contractor with subcontractors, recognizable to any homeowner and recognized in the industry. I accepted the quote, because frankly I was in a hurry to get the job done. The technician did the first job within hours. This included driving out to buy new doorknobs and deadbolts, plus a key-lockable and re-key-able front-door latch and deadbolt set. At the end of the job I had doorknobs that would stay on without coming off in my hand (as the originals did--twice), and four doors all on the same key. I also had a new deadbolt on the garage door and a front door that I could double lock. While he was here I asked him to see to a seam that had opened in some drywall, and remounting a toilet paper dispenser in a bathroom. The second job he finished in about five minutes; the first he agreed to come back for. On the second day he called his office to have them call me--this because I was too far away to hear him knock. So when I let him in, I suggested now would be a good time to install a wireless door chime and ringer set, and to repair a front-porch fixture I had never been able to unscrew. Note: I suggested these extra jobs; he did not push them on me. Except for my having to make two trips to a nearby hardware store to buy some batteries, he did all the work in record time. And because one of these jobs required letting some drywall mud dry before sanding, he was able to complete all these jobs at very little extra charge--because his company charges by the man-hour and materials, whatever the job happens to be. By using his time effectively and efficiently, I saved. The results are everything I could ask for, and getting all these jobs done is a special boon, particularly since I'm planning a long road trip. If I run across any other little thing that needs doing, I'll definitely call Mr. Handyman of Richmond first. I would recommend them without reservation to anyone having a little project.

I hired the company for their 4 hours minimum rate + the $75 trip charge for coming out. When the technician came out he informed me that he could not repair the steps to the house or the deck, that it was to extensive for him to get it done . Instead he said he would write me an estimate he charged me $375 on the spot to write an estimate for deck and steps leading up to the house repair. He emailed me an estimate a couple of days later, the estimate he wrote for me was for $4,627.00 for deck repair and like $3600 to repair a few steps leading up to the house. Needless to say I did not go with this company and got the work done at a much lesser price. I get that a contractor can decide whatever high price they are going to charge you, as long as it spelled out before the work starts. But I do not believe it was fair to be charged at total of $375 to write me an estimate. When what I signed up for was 4 hours worth of work( repairs) at $384.00. Which I did not get what I paid for . And paid Mr. Handyman of Richmond $375 for an estimate. The receptionist/ customer service was friendly but would not hire or recommend them again. *Please note a few years ago I did get a quote from Mr. Handyman for free, but think that was from Mr. Handyman from Chesterfield/Tri-cities and that quote was for free and the estimate was fair and compatible, the tech that came out was friendly and professional. Handyman came as scheduled and fixed the problem. I thought I would have to replace the door but the guy said that he could fix the issue I was having. Very friendly, very professional and would use again. He saved me money!!!

I give them an "A" for responsiveness and professionalism. Their pricing structure is hourly based vs. project based, so it is difficult to compare them if you are gathering multiple estimates. This was not a good fit for me for this particular job. Estimates are not free. I would consider them for smaller jobs that I do not have time for.

it took nearly 3 hours to put in a small bathroom door which was highly unexceptible in my opinion...that door should not have taken over an hour to replace even with cutting and planing of the door....so after three hours i stopped the worker and just paid his for the time spent and will put my own last two doors in because as an unexperienced handy man i could get my own door put in in that time or less... well if you charged by the hour i guess milking the clock is job one.

Very well. They fixed the fan and since we had time left on the hour minimum, they installed a shelf.

We had to reschedule once due to rain but the company followed up to reschedule quickly. The Handyman arrived on time, was professional and competent. He asked if we were providing the siding, which we had already told the company that we wanted them to provide. The Handyman quickly matched and purchased the siding needed. His work to replace the siding was of good quality and quickly done. On the inside, he quickly fixed three doors that would not close correctly; again the work was done efficiently and was well done. We discussed the ramp and the Handyman promised to get back to us with the cost and design. We are awaiting that information, but it has only been a few days. Overall I was quite pkleased with the quality and efficiency of the work done.

The technician was very efficient and courteous.

We were responsible for repairing a set of mailboxes that were damaged when we hit black ice recently. We needed a quick repair and this company was able to come out right away to get the job done. The job looks great and my only complaint is the extreme cost. For removal of two upright posts and one damaged cross post, then replacement of all three posts cost 675.00. The mail boxes were not damaged so the only items replaced were the three posts.

Handyman was on time and worked diligently to timely complete the project.

They did a good job. Even though it seemed expensive as it's charged by hour, they worked very efficiently. The work was well done. We were very satisfied. Will definitely get them again.
