Erskin's Tile

Right up front, I will say that I was happy with his employee's tile work (James) on backsplash, shower and tub. I'm not happy with the mess he left behind (not a lot but it wasn't clean), his showing up when he wanted to, and his leaving early, but the work was good. My initial interaction with Erskin was good and he seemed like a decent businessman. The estimate seemed reasonable for the work being done (should have got another estimate), but the additional costs quickly added up (tile, grout, caulk, schluter shower pan and trim). The quote was for a certain sized tile (12x24) and when I sent him a pic by text of a different sized tile (3x17), his reply was "that's fine", my assumption as the customer was that the estimate would cover it. He later said the new tile would cost more due to additional time for installation. I asked if I could perform the demo on shower/tub to offset the cost, he didn't reply and added $190 to an estimate he never sent, and didn't adjust the estimate for the tile job that previously included demo. He later, after much back and forth, took off $100 for my doing the demo and cleanup for his worker. I sent him multiple emails before the work began, asking about changes and additional work that they may be able to accomplish, including a new shower door instead of reinstalling the old one. He never responded that a new door would increase the cost, but did quote a price for installing shower doors on 2 other tubs in the house (on which he had performed a cleaning). My thought, as the customer, was the cost for installing a shower door was included regardless on whether it was new or the old one. (My email stated "I'm assuming that reinstalling the shower door in my bathroom is part of the price (correct?), so we'll be getting a new door to replace it.") The estimate I received did not even mention the door, but his "new estimate" (that he didn't send ME) had an annotated "NOTE to tech: the existing shower door will be reinstalled" as an obvious knock on my new door. It went downhill from there. He told me I would need to buy the schluter shower kit that I wanted, instead of reusing the porcelain pan, that was fine, it was my upgrade. I sent him a text pic of the shower kit from amazon, he said that was the kit I needed, but the installer didn't use most of what was in the kit, including the shower waterproofing liner and waterproofing membranes that go around the shower fixtures. When I came home the first night, I saw the installer was using the waterproofing liner as a drop cloth and that was very concerning since it cost money and he was walking on it, not putting it on the wall. I called him concerned that the installer didn't know what the waterproofing liner was used for. His response was very defensive of the employee and said that they only waterproof the shower floor and they don't need to use the wall liner over the cement board. I paid almost $400 for a kit and they only used the parts I could have got for $200. I have left over parts in my bathroom now instead of under the tile. Next, I had to buy the grout and caulk, he forgot to add the list of materials for my purchase to the estimate so my out of pocket went up more. "they don't know what color I want". The tiled walls were left dirty and dried grout was left on my floor and in the bathtub and sink. Dirty items were put on my counter and piles of dried mortar were left in my yard. He used the buckets I had in the garage to carry the excessive left over tile and trash. He forgot his nail gun so he couldn't put wood trim back up. He didn't smooth the rough cut edges of metal trim around tub or back splash. Erskin wanted to come out to finish things and clean up, but after the disagreements on shower door and estimate adjustments, I was done dealing with him and his unprofessional manner. He threatened me with putting a lien on my house after I said I wouldn't make the final payment until things were finished. I just didn't feel like dealing with him anymore, the tiling was done and decent, so we told him we would clean up, do touch ups, put wood trim back up and install the new door. He took my response negatively "I have several documented attempts to address any issues of concern.... no action has been taken to allow me to correct them... any issues are no longer my concern... you have not allowed us to correct any issue or concern... payment is due today... I WILL take action immediately" and after my text about him being unprofessional and threatening me with the lien "I'm done with your games, I tried everything I could. Payment is due today. A lien plus interest WILL be placed on your home immediately. As far as your (Angie's list) review. My response will show all that read it what type of person you are. Good luck on explaining to your wife why there is a lien on your house". NOTE, this last text was AFTER I sent him the last payment. Once again, tile work was good, ancillary actions of clean up, estimates and management, not good. If he had just come in, done the work, listened to my concerns about associated costs not being on the estimate, installed the door at his cost since it was his error, and not threatened me more than once about placing a lien, this would be a much better review.

Erskin of Erskin's Tile was very professional and competent. The tile work he completed for us was done in a timely manner with beautiful results! If the need should arise, would definitely rehire.

Erskin's Tile did an excellent job of removing broken tile and replacing it with new tile in the shower area of my bathroom. It was a very challenging project because of the nature of the damage and the age of the house. The repaired sections blended in perfectly with the existing tile. The work was conducted in a very timely manner at a reasonable cost as quoted. Provisions were made to keep the work area and surrounding areas clean during the entire project. Everyone associated with the Company was very professional and polite. Working with Erskin's Tile was a pleasant experience and I highly recommend them to anyone needing ceramic tile work.

Beautiful job. The floors in both bathrooms and the shower look amazing. Erskin and his team were also reliable and responsive and even tidied up the work space daily. I changed the design several times and Erskin was great about it; providing a revised estimate each time; pricing was very reasonable. We are 100% satisfied.

Erskins Tile did a great job in the installation of new tile in my shower and I plan to use them again to update the tile in the other bathroom. I am so pleased with the work and the professionalism displayed by Erskin Tile, I am spreading the companies name around to my friends who need tile work done.

Erskin is a pleasure to deal with. It took us 5 months to decide on tile choice after he gave us an install estimate. He was ready to get us on the schedule as soon as our tile order came in. His install price was competitive, slightly beating out another installer that we considered. However, we made a design change and that impacted the pricing quite a bit on the day of install. If you need to stick to the budget, keep this in mind and confirm the plan with him at the time he starts the job. He runs a tidy workspace and cleans up the grout as best as can be done before it sets. Backsplash looks great, would recommend.

We needed a tile back-splash added to our kitchen. The quote we received was a great price and the work completed looked fantastic! Exceeded my expectations. We also needed some shelves installed over the tile and they came back to complete that task after everything was set. We will definitely be using them to makeover our bathrooms and for any tile needed in future. Very prompt, professional, and a pleasure to work with!

Erskin is great! He showed up when he said he would show. Did a great job. He was very professional and accommodating even though my job was small. Would highly recommend.

I initially contacted Erskin and he got back to me within 3-4 hours. He was very professional and offered a free on-site evaluation and quote. He arrived when he said he would and was very professsional. He emailed me a quote about an hour after we met. I accepted and he did the work a day or so later on a Saturday. The work was accomplished quickly and efficiently. It turned out great! I am very pleased and would definitely use Erskin again when I need any Tile work done.

I could not be more pleased with the outcome of our tile. We choose penny tile for our bathroom floors, which several other contractors did not want to take on. Erskin was extremely responsive and routinely checked-in on the progress. He was responsive, professional and someone we will hire again for future tile needs.

I called Erskin on a Tuesday night. He came out to inspect the shower on Thursday morning and was able to get his guys out to my place on Sunday morning to get the job done. The other two placed that I contacted couldn't get anyone out to look at the job until the following Monday or Tuesday. I was very happy with the communication and responsiveness from Erskin. I would highly recommend to others.

ET did a great job. Existing floor tile and cultured marble around bathtub was removed and new ceramic tile was installed. If you are going to have tile work done, have them give you an estimate. You will be pleased!

Everything about this project went perfectly. Frankly, we hate the disruption, but James and Erskin took the pain out of it. From ordering supplies to execution we were extremely pleased. James is very meticulous and a perfectionist, consulted us on decisions, and kept us informed of the timetable. We have already invited him back to do the next project.
