Description of Work: My a/c system gave up the ghost with a frozen heat pump. They responded to my call within 30 minutes and evaluated my 10 year old HVAC system. The frozen heat pump was only the beginning of the problems and they walked me thru each find, showing me what was wrong and why, how it would have to be repaired and approximate cost. The final blow to the old system was the discovery of mold within the furnace air exchanger. I was skeptical at first on the analysis but further proof and investigation revealed a leaking condensation line that caused the mold. Trying to repair and clean the old system would be more costly than new so I agreed to a new high efficiency system. The new system was installed within the week and I was amazed at 1)how silent it is and 2)the reduced amount of electricity it took to run it. I am very pleased.

Description of Work: Around 07:45 pm on 01/17/13, our electrical service provided by the BARC Electric Cooperative went down due to heavy snow in the Natural Bridge, VA, area. Power was not restored until around 6:00 pm on 01/18/13. Our electrical heat pump, however, would not consistently run at that time and with the temperature falling to around 27 degrees, we called Donnie Shanks of Natural Bridge Heating & Air Conditioning at his cell number, 540-570-3128, around 6:45 pm and asked if he might be available for an emergency service call on 01/19/13. Around 7:15 pm, Donnie Shanks returned our call and I described the problem. Everytime the heat pump would try to come on, the lights would flicker and go out and the heat pump would shut down. Because of the dropping temperature, Donnie Shanks offered to make an emergency service call the evening of 01/18/13 to check out the compressor and the heat pump operations. He arrived around 7:30 pm and found the voltage at the compressor to be low, around 223 volts, instead of 240 volts, and checked the compressor which by the time of his arrival and testing to start operating without shutting down. He said the compressor was fine and to expect the voltage to rise to a normal operational level after the electrical service was fully restored tomorrow. Because I purchased my York heat pump from Natural Bridge Heating & Air Conditioning, Donnie Shanks said there was no charge.

Description of Work: Once again, Natural and Bridge Heating and Air came to my rescue on a weekend-- and right away. I came home from a Thanksgiving trip to find a furnace that was dead. I called Donald Shanks on Saturday night of the holiday weekend, and he even offered to come right out and look at the furnace because it was to be the coldest night of the week. I opted to build a fire rather than ask him to come out on a Saturday night, and he was there at 9 a.m. on Sunday morning. In spite of having trouble getting a part for my furnace, Mr. Shanks managed to fix my furnace, good as new, on Monday. He cares about his customers, charge more-than-reasonable fees, and he stands behind his work, always. I feel absolutely confident that anything that goes wrong with my heating, air conditioning, or other such appliance I can turn over to this company for outstanding work.

Description of Work: AFTER A 30 HOUR POWER FAILURE, WE WERE READJUSTING TO THE RETURN OF POWER, AND UPON TURNING ON A CENTRAL AIR CONDITIONER, THE OUTSIDE UNIT REFUSED TO RUN. AFTER SEVERAL TRIES TO CORRECT THE OPERATION, (OUTSIDE TEMPERATURE GETTING CLOSE TO 100 DEGREES) WE STARTED CALLING THRU THE PHONE LISTINGS. THE RESPONSES AND QUOTES WERE ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS. WE THEN STARTED TO GO THRU ANGIE'S LIST AND CALLED DONALD SHANKS OF THE ABOVE COMPANY. * THE FIRST GOOD THING WAS THAT MR. SHANKS ANSWERED HIS PHONE.* UPON DESCRIBING THE SYMPTOMS AND SOUNDS, HE WAS ABLE TO MAKE AN EDUCATED GUESS AS TO THE MALFUNCTION.* UPON OUR REQUEST, HE SUPPLIED A COST ESTIMATE. * I INQUIRED IF HE STOCKED THE PART HE SUSPECTED, AND HE SAID HE CARRIED SEVERAL ON HIS VAN.* WE INQUIRED AS TO WHEN HE COULD SCHEDULE A CALL TO US, AND HE SAID HE WOULD MAKE IT THAT DAY.* ABOUT AN HOUR LATER, HE CALLED AND SAID HE WAS LEAVING TO COME AND WOULD ARRIVE IN ABOUT 40 MINUTES.* HE BEAT HIS TIME, AND IMMEDIATELY WENT INTO ACTION.* A FEW TESTS WERE MADE AND HE SECURED A NEW PART FROM HIS VAN.* A/C UNIT WAS UP AND RUNNING AND FUNCTIONING NORMALLY, AND WE SHUT IT OFF TO HANDLE OUR PAYMENT FOR SERVICE. AFTER HE LEFT THE DRIVEWAY, I WENT BACK INSIDE TO START THE A/C AND IT WOULDN'T START! AFTER TRYING A FEW TIMES, WE GOT ON THE PHONE TO TRY TO CATCH MR. SHANKS BEFORE HE WENT TOO FAR. AGAIN, HE ANSWERED THE PHONE, GUESSED THERE WAS A TIME DELAY, BUT TURNED AROUND IMMEDIATELY TO RETURN. HE VERIFIED THAT THERE WAS A BUILT-IN 5 MINUTE TIME DELAY BEFORE RESTART. THERE IS NO DOUBT IN MY MIND THAT DONALD SHANKS IS A TRUE STRAIGHT 'A' RESPONSIBLE HVAC PROVIDER. BY THE WAY, NO CHARGE FOR THE CALL BACK.

Description of Work: Donnie Shanks of Natural Bridge Heating & Air installed a new York heat pump in my home in June 2004. Since then, he has been to the house to replace a themostat in 2010; and, on September 7, 2011, he returned for a repair/replacement to the discharge pump.
