John Donohue Asphalt Paving

Overall excellent work. Showed up as scheduled on a Saturday morning with everything needed to re-pave the driveway, which had partially sunk down several inches. The price was very good based on other estimates. Reputation was comparatively excellent. At least two other neighbors saw the great work and had their driveway repaved on the spot. This likely happens often because they brought the extra asphalt.

He came to our house because he had just repaved the house across the street. He offered to do our driveway the next day, came up with a price, discounted it and we agreed. His crew showed up the next day, knocked on the door and said they were ready to start. They did a first class job of preparation, repaving and cleaning up. They have worked together so long that the conversation is minimal but the work is choreographed like a dance. They were on their way by noon and the job looks great.

I reached out to Mr Donohue via Angie's List message and he came out to estimate the job within a day or so. I had also contacted two other paving companies, one of whom took so long to come out and hadn't even provided an estimate by the time I scheduled the job with John Donohue! His estimate was fair and reasonable and quite a bit less than the other provider. He rang me Tuesday evening to say, weather permitting, the crew would be here in the morning. They have just completed the job and I am ecstatic. Mr Donohue and his crew were completely delightful to work with. Professional, personable and competent. They went above and beyond, building me a pad for my garbage cans and extending the asphalt underneath my mailbox where there was a bit of a valley. The driveway looks absolutely wonderful and definitely enhances the look of my home. I couldn't be more pleased. I HIGHLY recommend this company and would definitely use them again and recommend to friends and neighbors.

Spoke with company on a Saturday. Made arrangements for someone to come out to my home and assess my asphalt driveway issues. Was told that someone would come out on the ensuing Monday, and that they would call me to let me know they were on the way. No one called, no one showed up. Must be nice to be doing so well that you can just let potential customers fall by the wayside. Shame. They missed out, too. My driveway is all of 200 yds. long. If they had done a good job with the repairs, I'd have used them in the future for repaving. That's a few bucks down the drain!

John came out and looked at what needed done. We negotiated a price for the extra square footage & we scheduled the job out a few weeks from there. They did a fabulous job. It took 1/2 day for them to do the work and they had a crew of 7-8 people. They brought several pieces of heavy equipment.

We exchanged a couple of emails. He called me once (I think) when I could not answer my cellphone. At this point in the season, it is late for applying asphalt, so I decided to cancel. Date of service is approximate. I cannot grade my experience because I didn't have the service,

The team did a great job! It only took them about 2 hours to remove and replace my driveway. They were very professional and took great care to make sure the job was done correctly. I initially had a bit of difficulty getting this scheduled with Mr. Donohue. However, I think he is just very busy because the company does such a good job. When he was able call to set this up, he offered to do it the same day. That worked great for me. I'd use the company again. I've heard some horror stories about other companies. This is one you can trust.

I had the best experience with John Donohue. He came to the house within 2 hours of my initial call, gave me an estimate and had his crew at our house an hour later. No problems at all. I was outside most of the time because we had some areas that I wanted to make sure was repaired which was done. The crew were all friendly and didn't seem to mind that I was watching over them. Very professional, once we made contact he visited the site the same day to see what needed to be done and then amazingly also brought over his crew to do the work the same day because they were on another job in the area--you can't ask for more than that. Looks good and quite an improvement.

It went very well. He came over about 2 hours after I initially called to give an estimate (which only took about five minutes), and said his crew could arrive in an hour. He said the job would be completed by the end of the day, and everything was completed as promised. John was very pleasant to work with. The crew were very informative, and it was a VERY clean job. They took the time to wash everything down thoroughly afterward, to ensure no mess was left behind.

It took about 20 minutes to spray the coat on. It took about 2 or 3 days for it to dry enough tpo see that everything was covered and black. Donohue tookl car not to spray the garage door and grass.

The job was done as scheduled. I never got a reply from the provider on how long I needed to wait before driving on my driveway again...

I have had such a hard time getting someone to do this work. Know one wants my money I guess? Mr. Donohue came out Monday and the job is now completed Wednesday by noon. I give them 100% rating. BTW the job was done properly.

This is an update to a previous review. The initial work performed by John Donohue Asphalt was not what I was requesting. I wanted areas of my driveway to be patched or completely replaced. Instead Donohue sealed the driveway. My first rating was a "C". Mr. Donohue called and requested an opportunity to meet my expectations. John was here the next afternoon and my driveway was patched and resealed where needed. The work was performed to my satisfaction at what appears to be a reasonable price.

Contacted Mr. Donohue on Mon 6/9. He came out that day and gave me an estimate. I called him the next day to contract him to do the work. He came out on 6/11 and resurfaced the entire driveway. His crew was very professional and had the job done in less then half a day. I had called two other companies for estimates. One was twice as much as Mr. Donohue and one came out, but never gave me a estimate even after calling him back three times. Plan on using Mr. Donohue to seal the driveway next year.

I have never been so insulted or been spoken to in such a rude and unprofessional way in my life. I submitted an online request to have the company call me before they came over for the estimate, as I was not home. I received a call from the owner's son saying he was at my house for the estimate. He was standing on my porch and could hear my dogs barking inside the house. I was a little taken aback by the fact that he showed up without warning when I was not home, but I proceeded with getting the estimate over the phone. He told me a list of what he would do and how much it would cost. I told him I was just shopping around and wasn't ready to make a decision. He asked who I usually use to seal my driveway and I told him Collegiate Sealers. He started trash talking them and I explained that they were cheap and that is why I have used them. He told me "F*** You!" and hung up the phone. John Donohue, the father, called me to ask how the estimate went. After I told him I wasn't very pleased with how his son spoke to me he said "oh, you're the one with the dogs that is an a**." He also told me (which I'm not familiar with the phrase) "I don't chew cabbage twice." I was still shocked. I asked John, "So you're calling me an a**?" He said "If the shoe fits" and then he hung up. I later emailed to let him know that I would be sharing my experience with my friends on the internet. He wrote back with personal threats against my job and threatening to call animal control on my dogs. I again wrote to inform him that I would also be sharing these threats on the internet. Lastly, he emailed calling me a "clown" and a "jerk" and threatened that the internet will hear his side as well.

There was a crew of eight to complete the work. The first day they were here for about 2 hours then about an hour and a half the second day. They ran out of asphalt the first day. They left the area how they found it. They widended the driveway and it fits two cars with additional walking room. We had an estimate then he did a cold call to make sure we had the estimate and he knocked a few hundred dollars off. The owner of the company was onsite and he answered all of our questions and made sure everything was done how we wanted. He was onsite overseeing the project both days. I would tell my friends and family that they are a good company.

Excellent. Orig contacted John Donohue Asphalt Paving in Oct 2013. They provided an estimate, but, unfortunately, I wasn't able to proceed at that time. I recontacted him in May and he said he would honor the original cost estimate. His crew showed up on the agreed upon day and removed the bad sections; removed the top of the drive (in order to create a smooth and level surface along the entire driveway); laid new asphalt; and leveled the entire driveway. The date of the work had to change a couple of times due to weather. Mr. Donohue called each time their was a weather issue (twice) to reschedule a new date. Easy to deal with and was on-site to oversee the work.

My initial review included some guarantee work that needed to be completed. John returned today with a full crew and completed the needed work by repaving the whole driveway and sealing. I am satisfied and pleased with the with the job.

The driveway was paved fin August. However over the winter the sides have crumbled in areas. The asphalt was made too high and not compacted enough on.the edges. Also,the end of the drive way was not made level with road and therefore the snow plows caught under the edge and tore it up. I called Mr. Donahue multiple times to repair the issues and he did not return a call until I told him I was placing a review on Angie's List. At that time he returned my call and said he would do the repairs in the few weeks. It has been over a month and again I have not heard from him. I did see his trucks in Purcellville so I know he has been on the area. His original work seemed at the time satisfactory, but his follow up leaves a lot to desired.

Came earlier than I expected (good) and finished faster than expected. Great guy to deal with. Got 3 estimates and he was $600 cheaper. Can't beat that!

We have a huge driveway that needed to be redone. I had quotes in the past for over $20,000, and this company allowed me to pay half in December and then the last half a month later. That really helped us a lot. They came and did the job and showed up on time and were super professional.

Was a very pleasant experience. They were very professional and fund a high quality job. The owner's 12 year old son was such a joy to talk to. He presented himself in such a professional manor you would think he own the business. Great job!

John came by since they were doing projects in our neighborhood. He asked if we needed the driveway paved which was obvious by the current condition. He said normally our driveway would be about $6K since it is about 70 ft long with additional 30 ft on either side forming the T shape, but agreed to do it for $4300. That seemed fair since I had gotten significantly higher estimates in the past. The completed the work in about 3 hrs and did a great job. I would definitely recommend his crew for future projects.

They thoughtfully included a small berm at edge to deflect water flow away from house. Very polite and professional customer service. We will use them again to seal coat the driveway this year.
