He, himself, followed up on the estimate for our job and had direct communication with myself for coordinating. He was very easy to work with and the job was done extremely well. I would recommend that you call this man and let him do your paving.

Very satisfied. Although I was not able to be home when they did the work, when I returned, I had a very nice new driveway. It looks great. They gave me a great price as they already had equipment in the area for other jobs. Everything was handled professionally and I'm very pleased with the whole process. I highly recommend them.

During the estimate process his older son told me that the cracks would be filled on the surface of the driveway and along the edges. After the seal coating was finished (by his younger son) I was concerned about the quality of the job because the cracks were not filled and the application of the sealant seemed thin. I called and asked Mr. Donohue to come by to evaluate the job. We arranged a date and time. He did not come and I never heard from him again.

They were very responsive in their communications, answering the phone and returning calls. We ended up going with them because of that, and their good reviews. Unfortunately, the work itself was very disappointing. They did not fill in cracks like promised, made little attempt to clean off the driveway, so ended up sealing a bunch of dirt and sticks in. The seal coat job was very uneven, and even missing in some areas. We asked in advance if they would edge the driveway, and they said they would, but they didn't. Had they said they wouldn't in advance we would have done it ourselves. There was little to no prep work, and the treatment was uneven. We called and complained and they promised to come back, but never did.

I hired 'John Donohue Asphalt' to pave my driveway. My only concern, which I mentioned to the owner and employees before hand, was that when done, please make sure water will not drain back to my garage. I was assured when they pave driveways, they create a crown down the middle forcing water to flow to the sides and not back to the garage. The day after paving, I decided to test the drainage with a hose and watched water ponding in front of the garage. I immediately called the owner and before I got done explaining the problem, he interrupted me angrily and said "well that was a dumb thing to do; you should've done your water test while I had my expensive machinary sitting there". He kept yelling and wouldn't let me get a word in, and when done, he hung up. In shock, I called back and when it went to VM, I calmly left a msg to call me back. He called back and same scenario. He texted me later saying that he'll stop by and never did. I sent an email which also went unanswered... Besides the unprofessional behavior, I'm shocked how a contractor would expect a customer to back check his work. Additionally, not honoring their work nor the warranty stated on the contract. I paid hard earned money for their work... I waited 2 weeks & hired 'Collegiate Sealers & Paving' to come out and take out their work & do it right. They water tested before they left & everything was perfect. I'm amazed on how some contractors stay in business ???

Fine. John's son Joseph came immediately upon my request and provided the spray on oil-based seal coat in generous quantities. He fixed the cracks first and taped the edges to ensure no spray reached my sidewalk.

It went well, showed up on time and did the scope of work as agreed upon. We believe the pricing was fair.

This company patched and sealed the driveway. Original patches on the driveway and on driveway sides were poorly done. Someone came to correct (and noted the shoddy job due to the worker wanting to leave quickly for social reasons), but much of that correction still has not dried and is crumbling after approximately one month. The company did not place protective materials over garage doors or brickwork. Portions of garage door framing, garage floors, and walkway brickwork abutting the driveway are covered with oil-based sealant; it does not appear that these areas were protected when spray sealant was applied. The mess will not come out of the brickwork or concrete. We will need to repaint the garage door frames as well.

Mr. Donohue had called me at work and provided me an estimate over the telephone (he had already been out to my property previously) on or about June 29 or June 30, 2016. I checked Angie's List and Home Advisor and it appeared he was in good standing. I agreed for him to do the work. He and his sons did the work in mid-July 2016, and it looked very good when I arrived home that evening (it was rather dark at the time), however, I called him the next day and told him that I noticed the lengthy guest parking did not match the main part of my drive way. The guest parking was covered with sticky gooey substance and it looked horrible. They did not remove any of the overgrowth grass and weeds that were growing in the large gapping cracks. There were leaves and large twigs sticking to this horrible sticky substance. They did not even take the time to move or sweep off the leaves or debris off of the drive - they just sprayed over the grass and weeks with this sticky substance. They even sprayed the sticky stuff on my large green trash bin. This is so outrageous - some of the overgrowth growing out of the multiple cracks were about 5-6 inches in height and it appears they were in such a hurry to get the job done as fast as they could and charge me as much as they could - they obviously did not care about providing me with an honest and quality job. When I discussed this with him, he said that was what he had agreed to on the telephone (absolutely untrue), however, he did send his sons back out to re-do the work, but it began to rain and they left. I had a very horrible exchange with his son - the son called me crazy and some other names. However, I told the son I was not going to do anything about the way he was treating me because I know his "learned" behavior came most likely his guardian or adult authority figure – and , that person was a very poor example. The grass and weeds have continued to grow up between the cracks over the past 9 months (even during the winter months). I called Mr. Donohue back several months ago and reminded him of this two year warranty on work, however, he told me he was not responsible and for me to get some weed killer to get rid of the grass and weeds. His words were: "I am not responsible for what grows from underneath the pavement." It is now May 2017 and the guest driveway still looks awful and I have had to continue to pull and spray the weeds. I have been dealing with multiple medical issues over the past 8-9 months and have not been able to fully devote myself to seeking a remedy to this problem, however, I am still very upset about the way I have been treated. I will never use this paving company again and I would never recommend them to anyone.

I'd tried several contractors, but most of them didn't even return my calls/emails. I emailed John Donohue from Angie's List mid-afternoon on a Friday. Within 15 minutes he called me, and offered to come out around 5:00 the same day and give me an estimate. He did just that, arriving about 5:15, accompanied by his engaging young son. He looked over the driveway and its issues and told us what he thought needed to be done. This tracked exactly with what we thought needed to be done, as opposed to the one other estimate we had gotten, that wanted to totally remove the current driveway at much greater cost. Mr. Donohue took off 10% for the Angie's List discount, and gave us the estimate, which we agreed to. Then he said he had a crew in the area the next morning, if we wanted it done the next day. Of course we said yes! and sure enough, Saturday morning at 9:00, his crew rolled up and started working. As it turned out, some other neighbors saw them there working and asked if they could get their driveways done too. In all, Mr. Donohue did 4 driveways in our neighborhood that morning, and they all look amazing! The crew was done with our driveway by 2:00, so total elapsed time between my email to Mr. Donohue on Angie's List, and completion of the project, was 24 hours. Full marks all around for professionalism and a great product. Mr. Donohue clearly valued our business, unlike the other contractors I tried to contact, and clearly knows his! He just came out and got the job done. It was a great experience, and I highly recommend him.

Arrived and completed as promised.

John called within half an hour after I left him a message. I gave him the sq. footage of my driveway (830 Sq. Ft.) & explained the problem I'm having with sink holes. He gave me the estimate over the phone & said he can do it next thing tomorrow morning at 9:30 AM. His crew arrived at 9:30 AM sharp. They tore up the affected areas, filled the sink holes, & repaved the whole driveway. His crew was very professional, courteous, & knew exactly what to do. In repaving the driveway, they created unnoticeable slopes to allow rain water to flow off the driveway into the left side of the yard so it won't sit on the driveway & make it sink. They poured water from the hose to test the slopes & made sure the water was flowing off the driveway & not resting at any part of it. It rained the following day, & not a drop of water rested on the driveway. The rain all ran down the driveway into the left side of the yard, away from the house. John also instructed his crew to divert the gutter's drain hose, on the right side of the yard, away from the house & driveway so water won't run under the driveway, affect the soil, & create the sink holes I've been trying to fix for 22 years. I've repaved my driveway 3 times, fixed those sink holes in every possible way. I've even tore up the whole driveway & regraded the ground underneath. John identified the main reason those sink holes kept recurring fixed it & took other steps (creating the slopes) to prevent any damage to the driveway in the future. I've had estimates to fix this driveway that ranged between $7K and $2,500. John's was the lowest estimate & the most efficient execution with incredibly fantastic quality asphalt. When I repaved the driveway before, there were always large asphalt pebbles coming loose for months after the repaving, sticking to the car tires, & messing up my garage. With John's asphalt, my driveway is as smooth as velvet. I don't even see one pebble anywhere, let alone some getting loose. His crew hauled away the torn asphalt, cleaned up impeccably in front of the house, the sidewalks & didn't damage the front lawn as others have previously done. John Donohue is extremely honest, utterly professional, completely efficient, & extremely knowledgeable. He has the best well-trained crew, the best equipment, best quality material, & top notch execution. Finally, the cherry on top: the whole FANTASTIC job was done in one hour and a half. To summarize my experience, I describe it as: Utter, Unadulterated, pure PERFECTION! It was also so enjoyable to deal with such a delightful, cheerful, courteous, & professional people who answered every question & explained every step.

John and his crew did a great job on our driveway. It took a couple rounds of phone tag to get an appointment but I didn't mind as I prefer to work with smaller operators as the personal service more than makes up for any wait. The weather did not cooperate on our scheduled day (several days of rain) but as soon as it cleared he called to see if he could fit us in. Our driveway is relatively small and they were in/out in the afternoon. They did a great job, paid attention to the details (edging near the porch, walkway, etc.) and cleaned up everything after. It was obvious that they know what they are doing and they take pride in a job well done. Highly recommend!

Everything was perfect. Mr.Donohue responded quickly to our request for an estimate on a new asphalt driveway. He gave us an estimate, we accepted and hired his company to re-asphalt our driveway. The personnel that came and did the work were courteous, prompt and efficient. The driveway is beautiful! It was a pleasure working with this company. I highly recommend him to anyone looking for quality work and service.

I received bids from 3 bidders. Two were approximately the same and one that was half of the others. When I researched the difference I found that one bidder had completely missed the measurement by half and that is why the price was half of the others. I thought about taking that bid but I was afraid they would realized their mistake halfway through and either as for more money or cut the quality of the delivery. I choose john because of his knowledge of the job, his knowledge of the materials and his experience. When I talked with john it was very apparent that he knew his job extremely well and had been doing it for a long time. He really inspired confidence which made me feel good about giving him the chance to do the job. John told me he would do a good quality job for me and I have to say even with high expectations he exceeded what I expected. The driveway looks great. He put on a good thick application, he dressed out the edges beautifully. It really looks great. John's crew really knew what they were doing the did a great job rolling it out. The day after they put it down it rained really hard, We have had some drainage issues with the previous driveway and john told me he could take care of that. I watched how the rain drained and he did exactly what he said. The entire driveway drained properly and all the water went exactly where john told me it would drain. I had a pile of dirt and stone that had been in the way for about 3 years. John told me he would move it while they had the equipment there if I would like. I thought they would forget to do that truly but john delivered on his promise and moved it exactly where we had talked about, I was very pleased to have that cleaned up. John gave me a fair price and delivered on his promise of doing an amazing job. I could be more please with my interactions with John and with the quality of the work done. If you want someone that really knows his business and takes pride in his work I strongly recommend you talk with john.

I called and asked for an estimate to repair my asphalt driveway. They came the same day and gave me a price. I got a discounted price as an Angie's list member and a senior. We agreed to go ahead and schedule the job. They called the next day to say they finished another job in the area early and could come that afternoon if it was ok with me. They showed up within an hour with the crew and equipment and went right to work. The crew of 6 wasted no time cutting out the bad parts of the old asphalt and prepping for the asphalt machine. In less than 2 hours they had completed the work, cleaned up the area, even sweeping lose asphalt from the street. It was clear they were an experienced crew that knew exactly what they were doing. Excellent job!!!! I would recommend them.

I contacted John Donohue Asphalt Paving through Angie's List and set up a time for an estimate. The owner, John Donohue arrived on time to look at the driveway. My driveway is only about 40 feet long, but had several large cracks from large tree roots. John explained exactly how his crew would cut out the asphalt around the roots, and cut and dig out the roots. He also explained exactly how they would cut out the old asphalt at the top and bottom, and feather in the new asphalt for a level transition. The concrete side walk to the front door had sunk, and John explained how the transition could not be perfect because of that. But explained how they would make as smooth a transition as possible. He gave me a quote, and then said he could probably get the job done in 7 to 10 days. We agreed to proceed. The company handles commercial properties as well as homes, and appeared to be extremely busy. He was not able to actually start for a couple of weeks. He phoned me one evening and said he could come the next day around 11 AM. He had another job before mine in the morning, and would be at my house as soon as it finished. The crew showed up around 11:30 AM. I had previously gotten the utilities marked, since I knew that there were phone and cable TV lines near the surface around where the roots were. I pointed out to the crew that the cable TV line was right were the biggest root was. They proceeded to break up the asphalt around the roots, and carefully dig them out. The crew completed all the other tasks that John had listed, and then put down a 2 inch layer of new Asphalt. In two hours it was all done, and they were packing up. They did an excellent job of cleaning up the work site, and other than the new driveway, you couldn't tell they had been there. I would highly recommend John Donohue Asphalt Paving.

After telling me 70% of his business is residential, he told me he would come out and give me a estimate but never showed up. Nice.

Family owned business with a great level of service. John was responsive and got back to us quickly. Workmanship was top notch. Job was done on time and met all our expectations.

I recommended him to a friend of mine and they were so pleased. He had to repaved the whole area.

John Donahue company was in neighborhood. Did six other houses on the block. I'm usually reluctant to make snap decision on door solicitation, but knew I needed driveway fixed badly. Wanted to hold off in case we moved and save expense, but knew it might become an issue during sale process. So might as well get done. Volume discount for being in area seemed reasonable. Company is not fly-by-night as many asphalt companies. They had every piece of heavy equipment imaginable and big crew to do work. Took about 90 minutes. Very professional, quick and courteous. Driveway looks great. Stand-up company. Definitely recommend.

The work was rescheduled until the spring as the weather become unpredictable in October and due to other personal matters.
