I had recently purchased a brand new gas stove. My wife likes to make stocks and other foods that need to simmer. Well the manufacturer had sent the low flame to high to do that. .Shane showed up in the time frame given, and at first wasn't sure if he could make the changes I wanted. He asked for the owners manual to check on the model and what could be done. He spent about a half hour fixing the height of the flame on all the burners to my wife's desire. It made her extremely happy. This is the second time I have used Ayers appliances and have been extremely happy on both times. I would use them again.
Description of Work: Fixed the height of the flame on my stove.

Ayers Appliance was assigned by our home warranty company (American Home Shield) to work on our GE refrigerator, after another company had completely messed up repairs for a freon leak. We had already paid a deductible of $79.50 to the other company, and that is why the charge was $0.00 from Ayers. Mrs. Ayers called us promptly, scheduled quickly, and then Mr. Ayers came out on time, and did the work needed to determine that the refrigerator requires a certified sealed system refrigerant specialist. Mr. Ayers showed us exactly where the freon had been tapped improperly by the prior company (the huge company that one associates with the catalogs of years gone by). His diagnosis has been confirmed subsequently by GE. The people at Ayers are good at their jobs and easy to work with. We would definitely use Ayers Appliance again.
Description of Work: Correctly diagnosed problems with a GE Refrigerator that had been messed up by another company.

I usually use another company that I have always been very happy with. However on Monday when I called they were unavailable to come out and check my washer so I called Ayers. At first they were not available either but then Joy called me back to say they had a cancellation and Shane would come out within the hour. I had an appointment so I was on a crunch for time. He came out within the hour and told me within 5 minutes of looking at the washer that I needed a new lid button. He quoted me $79.95 for the diagnosis fee, 68.35 for the lid button and $121.43 for a flat rate labor fee-total of $273.83. I felt this was high at the time for a 16 year old washer but I had a tub full of sheets sitting in water and needed to get them rinsed out. I was not going to be available for someone to come out until Wednesday (2 days later) so we went ahead with the job. He fixed it in about 10 minutes and was out of the house in time for me to leave for the appointment. He was very polite and helpful but was only here for a total of a half an hour or so. I felt like the rate was high so later that day I called the company I usually use and asked what they would have done the job for and they quoted me the following: $70.00 for the service call which gets applied to the bill, plus $42.00 for the lid switch, $24.00 labor, $2.52 tax for a total of $138.52! Boy, did I feel ripped off by Ayers after I got this quote!! I called Ayers the next day and spoke with Joy the wife of Shane and she got very defensive when I told her I felt ripped off!! She then said she would call me back after she spoke with Shane. She was going to see if he could take out the lid button and refund my money and then I could have the other company come and put it in for the price they quoted. However, she called back that night and said he could not do that, so the price was what it was. She said she could give me a free coupon for next time so I could use it towards the diagnosis fee. Why would I want to do that when I was already unhappy with the company? I told her this as well. I will never use then again and next time continue to use my former company that I have always very been happy with. I am sorry I did not wait the extra two days I would have saved sooo much more money!! It does not pay to be in a rush!! If you are happy with your current company do not try another one because you may end up ripped off like I was!!

First, the term [member name removed] used to describe her experience would only be appropriate if our company used underhanded practices to receive payment for sub-par or incomplete services. Rip-off \ˈrip-ˌȯf\ n. noun (often used as a verb) 1: an act or instance of stealing; theft or trickery ~ 2: a cheap exploitive imitation; fraud By definition it fundamentally implies deceit & we did no such thing. Here at Ayers Appliance customer service & satisfaction are our top priorities. We have been serving our communities appliance repair needs for eight years & have never had a review like this: we are deeply saddened that any customer would have such a reaction to a transaction with our company, especially someone we have worked with multiple times. Secondly, we feel the overall “F” grade is inappropriate: [member name removed] may feel we were over-priced in a particular instance and she has every right to speak her peace, but with that, it is also our right to respond in our own defense: so while her review was generally fair in the description of our service call, we want the facts to be completely transparent on a few points as follows: Our service call, parts pricing & labor to repair is clearly broken down in our estimates & the quote is good for 30 days. If a client wants to price shop they have every opportunity to do so without pressure or affecting the cost of the job (returning at a later time to complete the repair does not increase the cost). We will not use the name of the other company [member name removed] is comparing us to but, as a rule, we believe it is unfair to our fellow tradesmen to quote a job over the telephone, sight unseen and we do not feel this is an acceptable practice for any company – especially after the fact when attempting to underbid a job to retain a customer that they could not immediately service in the first place. Every repair is different in terms of symptoms, diagnosis, conditions, access, appliance age, labor involved as well as time limits required to fulfill the customers’ immediate request. In addition, parts pricing can fluctuate based on quantity, availability & warranty coverage. In fact, [member name removed] was fit in to our schedule for same-day service within a short time of her request, we arrived within the service window given, we had the required part in stock, she was given a quote prior to service, which she accepted & approved, we were able to do the repair within her time constraints (as she had another appointment to get to shortly after we arrived) & she was very pleased with the work. Upon leaving she was thankful for our ability to do the job under rush conditions & happily paid the bill presented (exactly as quoted). We believe hitting all these marks has a value all it’s own & deserves a much higher overall grade. We also feel it is important to note that as a returning customer [member name removed] was well aware that our service call fee is not applied to the repair, as with some other companies. In an effort to rectify this situation we did offer her a credit for the service call of $79.95, but she declined. That offer still stands as does any applicable warranty on our current & previous work done. Finally, we take pride in serving our community and we stand behind our work & our pricing 100% - we will continue to offer courteous & professional service to all of our customers: past, present & future!
