I needed a RESNET HERS rating for my home in order to qualify for a tax credit and also to help the resale value of my home if I moved before my improvements reached their payoff period. I had 3 choices in my area and I chose Welford because they were BY FAR the least expensive option. They were $300-500 less than all others, which is quite a bit. However, I think in this case I got what I paid for. In the end, I got a good, professional, and well-documented rating, but the journey was a little rocky. If I had it to do over again, I probably would pay the extra money for less stress. Here were some of the headaches: 1) Engineer gave me his email address but NEVER responded to email, so I had to call him from work, which I don't like to do 2) Welford never asked for my cell or home number, so when the engineer had to cancel because of weather, I didn't know until I called him after wasting several hours of my annual leave. 3) I was never informed that the analysis could not be conducted in the rain until it actually rained. 4) Engineer was about 50-50 on returning calls. Sometimes he called me back the same day, but most times I had to call him the next day. To his credit, he always remembered what question I had asked on voicemail, so I'm guessing they are very busy and have trouble promptly returning calls. 5) There was an error on the first report. It was a small thing, but should have been very obvious. 6) Mis-calibrated/broken equipment forced another day to complete testing. On the positive side, the engineer told the truth about the equipment and suggested the re-test. He could have easily lied and said it was working fine and I would have had no recourse. So they ARE honest. 7) Added all up, the process SHOULD have taken 2 days (4 hours each) and a few emails/phone calls for clarification. Instead, it took 4 days (16 hours) and about 10-20 phone calls.
