AVOID AT ALL COSTS. An absolute nightmare of an experience..and continues to be causing problems. Where do I even begin. I bought a house to put a second story addition on and started working with Darrel. From the beginning I provided him a layout to basically just formalize to submit to county. What I received back was SO FAR from what I provided. (Not sure how someone could be so incompetent when being spoon-fed drawings).. Anyways, I was back and forth constantly, getting one thing fixed and then him forgetting all the other things that still needed to be changed. Then he'd always try to re-assure me with things like window placements that "oh don't worry they don't have to be exact because the framer will do that on-site". Also he tried everything he could to not even come to the actual house. And he would consistently say he'd have it done "in-no time, it's just a couple mouse clicks" but would always fail to be on-time. Finally he came after a month or so because I wanted him to verify the measurements and actually see the physical structure (this is why people pay an Architect, right?!). We finally submitted the plans (despite the windows still being wrong), and got denied because Darrel thought he could get away with not including any of the existing foundation information. After county instructed us to include foundation info, he still tried to not even come out to the house and wanted me to go under the crawl space and give him measurements. (AGAIN, why am I paying this guy?). After foundation info was included, county approved plans and I wanted to never talk to Darrel again.. which I have not. Fast forward a couple months to now when all of the lumber has arrived and my carpenter is out on the job.. I was told after removing the roof and placing the 2nd floor joists down that the architect had the width of the 1st floor 1' short.. which meant that my floor joists above and the roof trusses were not what we expected. luckily I planned to do a 2' cantilever in the back and 1' cantilever in the front so the 1' error on first floor made it still possible but I could only get 1' cantilever on front and back as opposed to gaining a whole other foot. This was as of today, so I really am hoping this was the only thing that is going to be causing a problem, but my God what a terrible "Architect" that should no longer be in the business. *Also, my parents were using him at the same time and they had to fire him before even getting to submit to county. There was an enormous amount of changes that Darrel continued to fail in completing.
