Thurber Engineering and Land Surveying

The owner of the company responded to my request for service in less than 12 hours! He told me what the service entailed how long it took and how payment can be made. We agreed on a date, but when an opening came up, they were actually able to perform the service only a few days later (original service date was still within the week). All services addressed exactly what was needed and they documents provided were certified and readily acceptable by local governments. They also made sure to send my my copy within just two days of the service being performed.

I called based on good Angie's List reviews to have our lot in Northern VA surveyed. He came out the following week and surveyed the lot. Great service.

He drove up from Fredericksberg, which is not near me! He came up twice to get all of the information and details he needed. I was very happy with the work that was done! I told him, comparatively, he is underpriced, but he said he enjoys what he is doing and does it for what he feels the right price is! He is VERY responsive, as well. Jim did an excellent job! He got back to me quickly and was very reasonably priced...about half what the title company wanted. The survey only took about an hour, and he was on time, professional, and personable. He even installed metal bars when they were missing or mangled. I would definitely hire him again if I need to survey anything else in this area.

Company was responsive on quote, flexible on scheduling, showed up on time, friendly and professional. They were helpful and answered all of my questions and provided background info on county permits and processes related to lot development. Staked and marked the property lines as requested, provided the plat drawings quickly. Great experience, will use them again.

Mr. Thurber actually moved up the survey a week without us even asking, which was very helpful us in getting our landscaping project done before the end of the planting season. He e-mailed us a pdf of the survey. His costs are very reasonable. We had recently purchased the home and waived getting a survey which the settlement company wanted almost twice the price!

Excellent. Husband and wife team were able to accomodate a short notice land survey within days. They provided a border drawing and staked our property for $350 (our realtor has suggested a person who would have done the same for about $550). Great service

I had a very good experience with this company. I was in an awful spot needing an elevation certificate in order to close on my house the very next week. James responded to my email within 8 hours and came to do my survey in two days sending the elevation certificate to my email that same afternoon. His price was also way better than some other estimates that I had gotten. I would definitely recommend that you use this company for any surveying need that you have.

Mr. Thurber responded quickly to my initial inquiry, and put my work on his schedule right away. He was competent, professional, courteous, and walked me through what he had done when he was finished. His drawing was in my email a few days later. His fee was very reasonable.

He did a great job with the plat drawing and placing stakes onthe property line. It took a little longer than expected to get the stakes down, but he was finished before we closed on the house (and it is a very large lot). The price was around half of what other companies I got quotes for charged for a 10+ acre lot survey.

Terrific job. Completed rather quickly. Mr. Thurber even found an old marker in the ground that had been there for 27 years. I'm comfortable with a fence line now and know my property limits.

I liked the very prompt response I got from the owner, and that the work was done shortly after the initial contact. The price was very competitive, too. The correspondence was via email, and was kept to a minimum. The survey provided the required amount of detail (overall dimensions, azimuths), but no extras/optionals (e.g. width of the house, size of deck or shed). I would recommend Mr. Thurber's services to others.

We need to find out where our property lines are and if certain trees belong to us or our neighbors. After searching Angie's list, we decdied to hire Thurber Engineering and Land Survey. Jim came on time and did an excellent job. Our lot is not a striaigt rectangle. It has 7 corners. Previous survey company only found 4 corners. Jim was able to find all 7 of them. He dig about 1 feet at the corners and show us the metal rod that buried underground. He also mark on the property lines. Then he helped me identiy ownership of trees near the properties line. We could not be happier with his service. I would recommend Jim's service to anyone who needs a land survey.

We needed a survey quickly in order to start a deck project in Burke, VA. Contacted Jim on a Thursday and he was on the job the following Tuesday. Received the survey the next day. Very professional and punctual.

Jim was very attentive to our needs to have our land surveyed quickly. I contacted Jim one week ago and he requested a $175 deposit over PayPal to cover his preliminary work which I was glad to pay. All payment transactions occurred via email and PayPal. Jim emailed me and let me know that the date and time of his arrival. He was not only on time, he was a half hour early. He did a very thorough job identifying the corners of our land and the exact location of our home as it related to the property lines. The very same day Jim sent an certified Adobe PDF file of the completed survey along with an invoice for the remaining cost of $125. I was very impressed by his professionalism willingness to explain and educate me on the whole process and the steps that he would take to accomplish the task. My title co. recommended a surveying outfit out of Reston that quoted me $650.00 for the job. I found Thurber Engineering through Angie's List and Jim quoted me $350.00 for the same work. I went with Jim and the whole transaction was great from start to finish. The freak storm the weekend before July 4th did delay our job start due to down trees & power lines in Arlington, but that was no one's fault. Jim had to come back twice to mark the corners because there was nothing previously marked on my property or the adjoining properties. He ended up using the properties across the street to complete his computation. I felt a little bad he had to make 2 trips from Fredericksburg and was slightly concerned it might increase the cost, but he went out of his way to say it was not an issue and there was no additional charge. He was very professional throughout, very polite, completed the job in a timely manner, and the finished product was exactly what I needed. The entire transaction was completed via email, with the drawing provided via .pdf and sent regular mail, and he accepts paypal which made it even easier. And at the end, he thanked me for the work.

Service and responsiveness were excellent. Sent an email and got a reply the next day. Jim was very professional on the phone when we spoke and in person when he came to perform the service. The settlement agency wanted about 800 for a survey when we first bought the property with the caveat that they didnt provide property markings. I am so glad we didn't do the survey then! Found Thurber through Angie'sList and so glad we did! He arrived on the appointment date on time. We received the survey via email the very next day as he promised. I would most certainly hire again if I ever need their services.
