The cabinets had scratches on the day of installation that they did not correct. When I texted him about it, he told us to touch it up ourselves. Why am I being asked to touch up his work that they could have done before they left? They also left creases that look like thin scratches all the way down the cabinet. After trying to get him here to fix his work, for 2 weeks, he showed up with an attitude and no plan to fix the creases. He took a knife to it to try and even it out, and now it really looks bad. He suggested we go get some caulk to fix it. Really sorry I didn't look at these reviews before choosing him.

Less than 1 year after my job was completed, paint already began peeling off of my cabinets. I contacted Joe July 2017 and asked for touch up paint which he promised on multiple occasions he would have his worker bring. Almost 1 year later I still don't have it and when I reach out to him, he first takes several days to respond, then has no idea who I am, and when I remind him what I need, he doesn't reply to me. I have offered to drive to his shop or meet his workers at a convenient place because his paint products are custom mixed, and he just ignores me. The amount I paid for the small job wasn't cheap, the least I would expect would be decent customer service and follow through. His workers are nice, professional and courteous, which was the best part, but overall the experience has been awful and the quality of the finished product isn't worth the money.

First - he lost the drawings and measurements (at least that's what I assume since he came out 3 times to do it). They estimated 3 days to do the work (I thought that was short so I assumed 2 weeks). They were going to have all the materials ready to go and be in and out under a week. We had to move counter top installation two times and they brought unfinished, unstained cabinets for the island. It was over three months and they never finished. They ordered the wrong size doors (they gap) and tried to blame us for it. They used our furniture and garage and damaged some of our stuff. They could not get the new doors stained properly. They NEVER cleaned up or picked up anything. They gauged our brand new teak floor by sliding a cabinet across it. Never installed the correct hinges in the new horizontal cabinets. Sadly his main carpenter had health problems (and was so large he bent our new toilet seat). Over they can do a really nice job - they are totally disorganized and make such a mess (screws on floor etc) - that is it not worth it. Pay more and get someone who cares and knows what they are doing. They were not done and have not contacted us in 5 months. We hired someone else to finish. So wish we had gone with new cabinets from Clique Studios - we could have done it much faster ourselves. In fairness they did try (in an unscheduled unreliable way) to resolve issues. We had to loan them router bits to finish the island. Joe is a nice person but really does not have a good plan or head for a large job.
Description of Work: Joe was supposed to reface (new doors) and repaint our existing cabinets, add new cabinets and replace a few cabinets (including add a new island).

This was the most horrible renovation experience ever. I would never hire them again or recommend them to anyone. Joe Henel and his workers had zero respect for me or my home. I probably should not have paid him but I wanted the whole thing to be over and for him to leave so that I could fix the issues in order to list my home for sale. Here are the highlights: 1. This was a horribly messy project and because the workers knew I was renovating the whole kitchen, paint was sprayed everywhere, including my fridge. I am still cleaning up paint and paint dust. 2. Surface was not prepped properly. They painted over cobwebs. 3. Joe was late on several occasions and the whole project dragged out for several days. 3. Joe has zero attention to detail and is unprofessional and insulting. He re-installed the doors crookedly and then argued with me when I pointed out the issues, telling me, "you don't know what you're talking about." He also blamed the issues on the hinges that he recommended I use because the holes did not line up with the old holes and he had to drill new. He did not fill the old holes. He also blamed the cabinets and said they had been crooked to begin with. I had to enlist the help of a friend to finish the project. This friend came and installed different hinges and filled the holes. Joe came back and painted the cabinet faces again. He refused to put down protection for my new granite countertop, tile floor, and freshly painted walls. I had to ask him twice to put plastic on the door to the rest of the house due to the smell. He argued that there was no smell and that he wasn't getting paint on anything. When he was done, there was gray paint that had floated up from the sprayer into the ceiling corner. Joe said that it wasn't from his spraying and asked when was the last time the ceilings had been painted. Three days earlier! He also got paint on the new tile floor. Joe took zero responsibility for the shoddiness of his work. He said that he was hired only to paint, not to drill new holes or to install new hardware. If he had consulted me when he realized there was an issue with the new hinges, we could have discussed other options. But he didn't, he made new holes in the cabinet faces which created more problems. He told me that the holes which were previously filled with painter's putty by my friend needed additional patching and asked if he should do it. I told him yes but looking at the finished project, it appears he did not bother, as you can plainly see where he drilled new holes. But the worst part is that several cabinet doors will no longer close and are crooked. The cabinets were old but the doors definitely closed prior to Joe painting them. I had to readjust the doors myself and install new magnet catches because Joe did a horrible job of it. When I've paid someone $1300 to do a job, I don't expect to find myself lying on my back on a tile floor wielding a drill and a screwdriver. In summary, the cabinets look better than they did before this ordeal and that is the only reason why I paid Joe anything. The quoted price was $1500. I paid $1300 but should have offered half instead, $750. But I would never hire him again or recommend him to anyone. He was recommended to me by the person who did my kitchen renovation and he had two good reviews here on Angie's List. But it was a compete and total fail for me. The pics shows the whole story. Stay away!

Response from Pro Refinish
Customer stated the truth: "He said that he was hired only to paint, not to drill new holes or to install new hardware." Customer did not understand that the new hinges she bought did not match the old ones therefore new holes needed to be drilled to install them. She refused for pay for installing the new hinges, expected us to do it without charging and also fill the old holes without charging. The friend did install the new hinges for [Member Information Removed] and filled the old holes for [Member Information Removed], so we were asked to come back and repaint the face frames, which we did, at no extra charge! The old holes however were not filled perfectly (friend did it for [Member Information Removed]) therefore they did show after we sprayed the face frame a second time. Customer stated that the walls around the cabinets will be painted therefore we didn't need to cover them before spraying the cabinets. Yes, we did get overspray on the unpainted drywall! We learned form this experience never to work for someone who is unwilling to pay for the job that needs to be done professionally and instead asks a friend to do part of the job so she can save a few dollars.

Their price was great and they are doing a good job. They are repairing something that another contractor messed up. They came right out and gave me a very good price. Their website was very impressive, so far the job is just beautiful. I would use them again in the future if needed. I would give them all A's.

The job went well from start to finish. Joe provided good advice about the different methods of renewing the cabinets and what finishes would work well. The finished job looked very good especially considering the excellent price. I still have real wood doors and kept my real wood frames with a change in stain color for less than most vinyl refacing processes.
Description of Work: I had the cabinet doors replaced with new oak doors and the doors and existing oak cabinet frames refinished to match in my small kitchen. Also, I had new hinges installed and added knobs and handles.
