Mr. Handyman of the Fredericksburg Region

At 11 p.m. we had a leak in the pipe going to the Hot Water Heater and water all over the floor. After shutting off all the water we were able to slow the leak and do damage control. The next morning we contacted Mr. Handyman for help with the problem. Mr. Handyman was responsive and offered a reasonable labor rate for services. We had contacted them mid-morning and they provided a plumber on-site by noon. Larry, the plumber, was professional, courteous, and very knowledgeable. He quickly went to work accessing the problems. After obtaining parts he installed a new hot water heater and replaced copper plumbing with cpvc, as well as, new cut-off valves. He did not waste time and worked non-stop to complete the job. We highly recommend Mr. Handyman and especially Larry, for a job well done. Their prices are reasonable and they did not try to rip us off or sell unneeded services as other plumbing contractors attempt to do. We will call Mr. Handyman again.

This company bills by the hour and I felt it took them too long to unstop a sink which is still draining slowly. The technician did not listen to me when I told him the sink was new and I did not believe it needed to be snaked out for clogs because no one used the bathroom on a regular basis. I also explained to him that I was told by a plummer friend that the sink possibly needed a different pipe than the one installed. Consequently, the sink still drains slow after he spent almost 2 hours taking it apart and snaking it. However, he did a good job installing the new toilet but again I felt that it took him too long to put it in. The company never called to followed up to on whether I was happy with the work.

We have not had any problems with them so far. I think they did an excellent job. That is why we are having them come back to do more. I do not have anyone to compare them to, but the price seemed reasonable.

Mr. Handyman returned our call in a timely manner, were up-front with pricing and how they charged (by the hour - two hour minimum), and stuck to their appointment time. They scheduled the appointment around our schedule and let us know the contractor would be a few minutes late. The handyman arrived on time, was friendly and professional, and performed the work in less time than quoted. We would definitely use this company again. They did a great job and it's nice to find a company that shows up when we need them, does what we need, and does it well.

They have done the handy work around my home and they are very good with their work. I rate them very highly.

The Technician, Shawn, arrived early to my home on 17 January 2012. I told him what the problems were with the doorbell and with the guest shower on the 3rd floor. Mr. Shawn started his assessment and figured out the problems immediately. He was very professional and advised me what needed to be removed and replaced. Mr. Shawn kept me informed. He removed and replaced my doorbell with a wireless doorbell because the system that was installed, not yet five years ago when the townhouse was built, no longer worked. He removed and replaced the diverter cartridge in the guess bedroom shower. Mr. Shawn traveled to the neighborhood Lowes to purchase the items that he did not have with him. Mr. Shawn finished his work in less time than I expected. He asked if I had anything further that needed to be repaired. Since I had read his Bio on the Handyman's Website, I asked Mr. Shawn if he could look at the ceiling in my master bedroom closet. He assessed the closet ceiling as having a leak and some mold/mildew. He informed me that the problem was correctable but that it would require more time than he had at the time as he had another appointment. I was very appreciative when Mr. Shawn suggested that I call to schedule a continuation of services. I called the Mr. Handyman of the Fredericksburg Region office and spoke again with the nice customer service representative Mr. Kevin. He informed me that Mr. Shawn could return on Thursday, 19 January to complete the job. I was thankful. Again, Mr. Shawn arrived promptly and begin to work of finding the source of the leak and repairing the problem. Mr. Shawn spent two days for a total of 5 hours and 45 minutes removing, replacing and repairing items in my home. I am thrilled with the services provided and more importantly the professional attitude of Mr. Shawn. It is a good feeling to have when you can trust someone to come into your home and deal with you in a professional manner. It was a blessing indeed. I will definitely use this company again and recommend this company to my friends.

Once we told them what needed to be done, they ran with it and made magic happen with no supervision. The team got everything done, in a timely manner and within budget. They kept us aware of costs along the way and there were no surprise expenses when they were done.

This has been one of the best experiences that we have had with handymen coming to our home and fixing things. The techs arrived on time, were courteous and very knowledgeable about their profession. My husband and I will definitely use them again and highly recommend them.

Excellent communication and follow through.

They arrive on time, assess the project, identify materials needed, and don't dawdle. They are a first-class team. I have been hiring Mr. Handyman of Fredericksburg for at least 4 years now. I've never been disappointed.

Overall I was very pleased with Mr. Handyman. The were quick, nice and honest. We had one of our 4 skylights leaking after the hard rains. Mr. Handyman told me he would be honest with me if the job was something they could not do. They came out and got up on our 2 story home and not only fixed the leaking skylight, they inspected and made sure the other skylights were good to go.

I called for a problem with my water not really knowing what the problem was and they sent someone to my house in 15 minutes. The man was very informative. He fixed my toilet and explained everything he was doing while doing it. They only charged me for an hour because it didn't take long and they usually have a 2 hour min. I was very impressed by the knowledge, promptness, and work done by this company. They also have a year guarantee that it won't break for the same reason because they are that confident in what they do. I would call them for any questions or repairs in the future.

I have been using Mr. Handyman for about 5 years. I am not handy at all and they are great at being able to do good work on lots of "little" jobs. So about once per year, I have them come out and knock out my "honey-do" list. this last time, they installed ceiling fans with light kits. Their estimates often sound high, but when you compare them with specialists, they are a steal. plus their work is high quality and their staff is very courteous.

Outstanding work and service. The team was always prompt, courteous and professional. They left the work site clean and neat each night and did a great final clean up at the end of each project. The owner does an excellent job explaining the scope of work, options, anything the owner needs to do to prepare, outlining any risks or areas where the project might need additional work, and the costs and schedule. I will be using them for all my household projects.

It’s a franchise and the people who run the franchise are really great. I like their flat rate and they rate on an hourly basis. They do anything like they do come for changing an electric bulb. They have qualified experienced people. They are always well dressed and look like a terminal. I would rate them high overall. I would use them again in the future.

I was disapointed from start to finish.

Easy to set up-got a quote very quickly. Work was scheduled to my availability, workers were punctual and cleaned up after themselves. Work completed was perfect!

The work went great with no delays and no mess. We were very impressed.

Their phone support was great, well informed and made scheduling a breeze. Their employee came out for a site visit, he was respectful, very experienced and punctual. I received a detailed explanation of the work to be performed. They sent me estimates in E-mail and identified exactly where there were chances for overrun. The came on time as scheduled and even completed the work ahead of schedule as another customer had cancelled their job and I got them for extra time. Again the workman was professional, On-schedule, knowledgeable and courteous. At one point the workman was missing some materials, he kept working and called the CEO to get him that materials. No lost time for home depot trips! His work was beautiful and made that portion of my house look great. Even if the cost was more than the other contractor I tried to hire, he called me two weeks after Mr. Handyman has finished and tried to schedule site visit. Ah....no thanks the work is done! Mr. Handyman has done a lot of work at my house. They've repaired a section of fence when the wind tore through my development and checked my roof for damages from the same wind. They've installed light fixtures and several small jobs. I'm writing about my closet. In short, the coated-wire closet shelves collapsed from the weight of my clothes. I came home from work to find that everything that was on the walls of my walk-in was now a jumble of shoes, clothes, wire shelves, and screws on the floor. A few months later, I finally called Mr. Handyman to be sure that they had someone that could install the closet system that I bought. We scheduled a date and the gentleman came by to get started the next day. I received a call when he arrived to get a better understanding of my instructions and badly drawn diagram of where each piece would go. The Mr. Handyman guy did a great job, consulted with me often while he worked and did a great job. Their cost per hour is a bit steep, but it's worth the cost for jobs that are better estimated so you can budget. This job took two days but almost two years later...it's still up and I have even more clothes now than then.

After backing my car into the drywall in my garage, my rear left bumper left a sizable hole in the drywall. I was going to get some estimates from local companies who perform drywall repair when I recieved a coupon in the mail from Mr. Handyman for $50.00 worth of services provided by Mr. Handyman. After checking out the local Mr. Handyman (the closet one was Mr. Handyman of Fredericksburg), on Angie's List, I made my appointment with Kevin, the customer service representative on Thursday, March 24 for Friday, March 25 at 3:30 p.m. I soon remembered that I had another appointment on that same day at the same time so I called back to reschedule for a Monday appointment and was able to do so without any problems. Kevin also told me that J.R. would be the technican who would repair the damaged drywall. He also told me to be on the lookout for the white and red van clearly marked "Mr. Handyman" and that J.R. would also present idenficiation verifying his idenity. My new appointment was for Monday, March 28 at 12:00 p.m. On Monday morning, Kevin called to remind me that J.R. would be coming by at 12 p.m. At 11:45 a.m., J.R. arrived promptly, clearly identified himself and got right to work. I explained what I needed done and he told me that it would take him about an hour and an half to complete the repair. He then asked me if I had any coupons and at that time, I presented my $50.00 coupon. I could not use this coupon because the fine print required a minimum of four hours worth of work and I only needed up to two hours. J.R. then said he had a $25.00 coupon that I could use instead and to save the $50.00 coupon for a later time. I did use the $25.00 coupon as suggested by J.R. J.R. did a terrific job repairing the hole and was able to save me some cash as well. I will use Mr. Handyman again.

Very well. I've had them do all the repairs to the fixer-upper foreclosure I bought. When they fixed the leaky pipe under my house and insulated the pipes the hot water somehow stopped working. Essentially, a valve was being forced open by water pressure; when they shut off the water to complete the repair the valve stopped working. I wasn't home for them to test the water that evening so I only realized it the next day -Saturday. I called, the owner returned my call in about 10 minutes, he and the original worker were out there within the hour. They replaced my valve with a new one, didn't charge me for the visit since they said it happened while they were working and may or may not have been them. They are my go-to company for home repair.

Very pleased with the whole thing. I only wish I could afford to have them do everything and get it all done.

It was awful: they canceled 2 appointments at the last minute, and charged almost double the quoted work estimate. I was quoted 3 hours labor, but it took over 5. The worker said it took longer becasue the job hadn't been explained properly to him by dispatch. The first visit was canceled my Mr Handyman 1/2 hour before the appointment time (I had already taken off work so I lost leave time). A worker came the next day and started work, but his subsequent visit to finish the work was cancelled again less than 1 hour before the appt time. Again, I lost leave time from work because they didn't cancel earlier in the day. The next appointment they showed up and finished the work. The drywall work was nice, but the baseboard trim wasn't done correctly, Because we had talked about more work being done in that room, the worker said that it could be finshed better later.. Overall the work was fine, but the cost, headaches and leave time I lost from work were NOT worth it.

Overall high quality work. Bathroom fix required more time than originally estimated, but high quality repair.
