Because this is weekend/summer house and we could not be on site daily, in order that my wife and I could be timely with our input and decisions, we repeatedly requested a plan and milestones, in vain, we requested daily check-in with us, the basic information of 1.) what was accomplished, 2.) problems/issues, 3.) what’s planned for tomorrow. Also in vain, it seemed that JT Construction expected us to check in with them. We are footing the bill, it should be the other way around. JT constructions and the subs made design decisions that should have been our decision which resulted in rework. These spanned the gamut from the color of the electrical outlet (beige vs. white) to the placement of light switches to the kitchen countertop. There appeared to be little or no oversight of the subcontractors. There were repeated incompetent errors/mistake by subcontractors (particularly the electrician) the resulted in rework and additional cost to JT Construction. This included in a nonsensical ordering of light switches, burning a new countertop, failure to turn back on the air conditioner after having shut it off, failure to restore electricity to our dock area. The workers are very sloppy. They took precious little precaution to minimize the impact of construction debris. Workers were sloppy and unclean. They even left fecal matter all over the toilet. At, completion, the kitchen items required multiple days of cleaning. To be fair there appears to have been some good work accomplished. But the negative far outweigh the positive. In summary, if you are looking for a general contractor who doesn’t understand the concept of a project plan, scheduled and milestones; is incapable of managing and holding accountable his subcontractors; and is incapable of leaving the site clean at the end of the day then JT Construction is the company for you. But, if you are looking for professional general contractors, I would suggest that you look elsewhere.
