Nick was great to work with. I had 6-7 guys come out to give me bids. Nick was right in the middle price wise but in fact he used better materials and threw a lot of upgrades that were free so he most likely was the cheapest. He listened to what i wanted and made suggestions that i really liked. They started on the deck and the quality was first rate, all the cuts were clean and everything fit tight. The patio was next and the color he suggested was spot on, exactly what I wanted. Nick was always in touch making sure I was happy with the progress. I really can't say enough good things about him and his guys.

We really like the Nick. He was very professional. He came out and measured and provided us with different options that we could do. At that point we were able to discuss what we wanted. He listened to what we had to say and redrew the plans according.

We first met with Nick Covert, owner of Dream Builders, at our house to talk about the project. Nick did a very good job of listening to what we wanted to create with our new deck. We were looking to use a new material that would be low maintenance. Nick showed us several different materials, some composite, some partial vinyl and others that were 100% vinyl. He explained the the pros and cons of each including the cost of the different materials. Base on the information we received from Nick we selected "Azek" vinyl decking material. Nick made several great suggestions throughout the design process, such as adding low voltage lighting and privacy lattice throughout the deck. Nick also provide us with some Points of Contact for other work he performed using "Azek" vinyl decking. We check out is prior work and we impressed with the quality of his workmanship and how the final product looked. Based on this we signed a contract with Dream Builders. Nick was a active working member of the Dream Builders Crew. He was on site working over 90% of the time. After tearing out the old deck and starting to put in the deck joist, we received a call from Nick that the main side boards attached to the house had been eaten away by Carpenter Ants and would need to be replaced. He recommended that I get an exterminator in to clear our the ants before he put new side boards. Once the ant problem was resolved Dream Builders continued work. During the effort, Nick identified a safety hazard with our Washer/Dryer vent port. He relayed to us that County Regulations had been changed since our home was built and that the existing venting only allowed a few inches from the ground to the underneath side of the deck to vent.. This was a problem for the venting and could result in a potential fire. As part of the Deck effort, Dream Builders framed, built and installed duct work to re-route the vent to a safer location underneath the deck. The entire project was completed within the time frame that Nick had stated it would be even with the Ant problem we had to deal with. The entire effort was performed professionally from start to finish. Nick's skill in designing decks along with his outstanding carpentry skills in completing the project were Superior to most of the other companies that I have worked with before. I could always get Nick on the phone for a question, which he was able to provide me with information that alleviate any concerns I had. Nick was great to work with. We love the deck and the company name "Dream Builders" fits the end product we received when the project was completed.

I called Nick for an estimate to have deck stairs built. He was very professional on the phone and prompt in his visit for an estimate. He provided a thorough estimate in a prompt manner. While I ended up going with another company, I would highly recommend Dream Builders and would use them for possible future home improvements.

The owner and salesman, Nick, is very professional and knows the business thoroughly. In addition, he is friendly, accommodating, communicates well, keeping the customer informed as things progress. The work crews were also polite and efficient.

We started the bid process for our new deck back in March of 2012. During that time we met with and obtained plan designs and estimates from about 6 or 7 vendors, all of whom were strongly pushing another composite product that I was less than impressed with. I had done my homework on the new Trex Transcend. Trex Transcend, also a composite, is made of recycled material (reclaimed plastic and wood materials that would otherwise go unused and right to the landfills). In fact, Trex is a member of the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), which was very important to me. So, we kept up our search for a builder who knew all about it. We came across Dream Builders of VA and made an appointmenet that same day to meet with the Owner, Nick Covert. Although the other builders were slightly familiar with the Trex product, there was not much info to be gained from them on Trex Transcend in particular and none had the knowledge that Nick possessed. Nick's artistry and design skills were evident upon our first meeting. Nick is extremely intelligent and articulate. Nick has a good head for business and possesses a keen understanding of his client's needs and offers great design ideas to those who can only dream it and talk about it, but are challenged when putting it to paper (like me). :-) I was impressed with Nick's listening skills as well, which proved to be very helpful when I forgot certain things that I had said to him in the beginning as we got further down the line in the process! What was really awesome was that Dream Builders' estimate was LESS than all the other 7 bids received and I got the estimate AND his professional CAD (Computer Aided Design) drawing on the spot at the time of the visit, which was almost equally awesome. FYI, the other bids from the other contractors were received 3-5 days after the site visit and meeting and some were done on graph paper and were very rough in their design. The contract was signed in early May and the work commenced in early July with completion almost 3 weeks after that. There were hitches along the way that were not Nick's fault, i.e., the annoying location of our septic field and underground pump system which led to a change order drawing and approval, weather that was too hot for any human to work outside in on a sustained basis and our deck location is in the sun all darn day long! I am a very particular person and demanded that the jobsite be kept as debris free as possible at the end of each day, which was no small feat! Nick's workers were attentive, polite, kind and most importantly SKILLED! There were some days that Nick had to have the patience of Jobe to listen to both my husband and me call him separately and ask him the very same questions! Poor Nick! Nick oversaw our project from start to finish and would show up on a moment's notice even if he had just driven off down the road! :-) We appreciated Nick's attention to detail and the detailed standards that he insists his workers adhere to while on site. Nick is a hands-on manager and completely accessible to his workers or to his clients with any question that may arise. Nick takes good care of his workers, which was also very important to me. He trusts their skillset because they learned a lot of what they know from him, but he also knows WHEN to micromanage. He has a great demeanor and so do his workers. They were all professionals during every step of the job. The final result is a deck that is BEAUTIFUL, extremely well constructed and designed with beautiful, yet subtle LED lighting installed as well. I highly recommend Dream Builders of VA. Nick puts his heart into his clients' needs and is a fine business owner. It is my pleasure to recommend Nick and his company wholeheartedly and without reservation. His crew was professional, showed up on time each day and kept our property/jobsite neat, clean and orderly. Have you ever hired a contractor that you wish you hadn't? That will not happen with Nick/DreamBuilders of VA. I hope that our recommendation will help others in their decision to use Dream Builders of VA. We are very happy customers!!!!

Nick gave us exactly what we wanted with creative twists. He was one of 4 estimates we got and we really felt he was the most responsive and responsible. His men showed up on time, worked continuously and cleaned up after themselves. We had several unique features we wanted, a handicap ramp, stairs twisting around a tree, bumpouts, an overhead section off the railings for hanging plants and a reinforced section for a hot tub. He did them all with great skill and they look beautiful. They took great care not to damage a tree that was near the deck that the stairs curved around. He was very careful to meet all county codes, such as railing and lights for the stairs and ramp. I think we will get the full amount back when we sell the house because it is so unique and usable. Nick also saved us money because when tearing down the old deck, he found wood ant damage that might have brought the whole sunroom section crashing down in another year or so. He took on the extra work with no problem. He put in a new support beam, and worked with the pesticide treatment company to make sure they could reach in to the concrete so the whole wood section under the sunroom was treated before he put on the new deck.. This unexpected problem put him behind schedule, but he never complained. We had also had new windows put into the sunroom earlier that year but when the new support beam was put on, it put the windows out of alignment. Nicks crew reinstalled the window so you wouldn't know it had been redone. We found out then that Nick could also do remodeling and wish we had him do the windows, we weren't really happy with the company that did it.

The design of the deck was fantastic, and much more interesting and creative than anything other deck companies were offering. The price was great, and the workers were diligent and respectful at all times. Due to some circumstances out of their control (delays with HOA approval, permit issues, worker illness, the derecho storm) the completion date was pushed back a few weeks from the original estimate. But we are 100% satisfied with the final product and would highly recommend Dream Builders to anyone looking for a great deck-builder.

Got three estimates from various builders and Dream Builders came in with the lowest price. DB beat the first estimate by $2000 and the second by $1200. Nick Covert, owner of DB, came out and did the estimate himself. He was professional and offered suggestions concerning my deck and steps. When I told him I was going with DB, he was on the site in less then a week and the project was done in a week (had some poor weather). He and one employee did an excellent job and cleaned up the site after they were done. The communications with him were great and I would recommend Dream Builders to my friends/neighbors, In fact I have already.

Dream Builders was a great company to work with, very professional and receptive to our wants and needs. We are extremely happy with our finished deck and the work they did. We would recommend them!

The company owner, Nick, is a great guy and his company does great work. He put in a custom Trex composite deck at my home. He answered all of my "dumb" questions and guided my wife and I through the process. I am new to the area and he was recommended by a competitor that could not start the job until later in the year. Cost for composite decks is high, but you get what you pay for. He took a little longer than anticipated but we are very happy with his work and the end product. Nick is a man that can be trusted and I highly recommend him and his company.

We called Dream Builders and spoke to the owner Nick Covert. Nick was very pleasant and professional, agreed to come out and quickly review the job, promptly submitted a reasonable estimate for the work, and completed the work on time with Absolutely Fabulous results. We woud certainly use Dream Builders of Virginia in the future. Our deck looks and feels better than it did when we originally had it built by a different company. They offered to do some stuff and they threw it in kind of as an added bonus for us and we appreciated that. He was willing to go above and beyond. He is going to wrap the bottom posts in white frost where the other guys didn't even mention that. He's going to put the lights on the stairs as well. He was going to do the hidden fasteners on the deck so we wouldn't even see them and we liked all that. He is bowing out the deck for us which we really liked as well. Nick is the owner. I've told a couple of people that we really liked him and he was very honest. He showed us his previous work and also showed us some stone patios that he worked on because we were considering a stone patio as well. He was very nice and went out of the box a little bit with what we wanted to do. He didn't just come in and give us a quote. He really cared about what we wanted.
