TIM'S FURNITURE RESTORATIONS

Tim started the first of December and he?s not done yet. It?s taken over six months. All he had to do is refinish the cabinet boxes, order new doors and drawers, and install new slides and hinges. We were led to believe it would take about three weeks. It?s taken a very long time. The work has not been up to par. We constantly have to make him redo things because it was not done well. Doors were too small and had to be reordered. When the doors were installed they weren't leveled or adjusted. It should have taken 2 or 3 weeks and it has taken 6-7 months. When we started the whole process, we signed an agreement with him saying that we were going to pay him when the job was completed. The only thing we've paid for thus far has been the new doors, drawers, and slides from cabinet company. We paid for all the new hinges from the hardware store. We have not paid him any labor thus far, and that is the saving grace. He was a referral by a friend and he did a good job for them in a timely manner. When we try to talk about his work he gets very defensive. When we criticize his work because he says he is a perfectionist he gets upset. He is not a perfectionist. He shows up sporadically, we never know when he is coming and he will not allow us to give him a deadline. We constantly have to show him everything that needs to be redone or fixed instead of him seeing his mistakes. This job has been so stressful. We have been so patient but we are at the end of our rope. I would never use him again. I would never refer him to a friend. He is unprofessional and he is not reliable. I think kitchen refinishing jobs are way over his head and his abilities. I had to hire another man to redo the slides in our pantry because each slide was as much as an inch out of level. I pulled out one drawer from the island and it collapsed. It only had cereal boxes on it. Need I say more?
