Tech arrived and cleaned A/C unit. Worked better after he left.

It went incredibly well. They were quick to come out and figured out that the landscaping company cut the wire to my A/C unit. He fixed the issue and was on his way. He ensured the source of the issue was clear in the invoice so made reimbursement much easier. All in all, a good experience and will use them again.

It went fine; he suggested that the unit needs to be replaced, it is just old.The extra price is not what I was expecting; the cleaning part that he did-he did not ask before hand that, this is going to be the extra charge on it and that was kind of a surprise for me but, other than that, I think it was just fine.

We had purchased a big deal for the service, and it was fine. There was nothing particularly great about them, but there was nothing bad as well. There was a lose wire in my AC unit, that was getting hit by the blades, and it seemed like it had been hit repeatedly, and the gentleman saw that and fixed it for me. He did a fine job, I have nothing to complain about. From what I have heard from other companies, on what their annual service price is, I thought the price of the big deal was fair and on par. They took my appointment and arrived on time, so they were responsive and punctual.

Richard's is the way to go. They are extremely punctual! In all three cases, they came out the very next day, figured out the problem, and then fixed it on the spot. They're prices are very reasonable specially if you buy the Angie's list coupon.

It went well; he knew immediately what the problem was - very dirty electronic filters - and just showed me how to clean these obsolete parts, and he recommended a new, disposable replacement filter, told me where to get it and what size. No deception or hard-sell attempts!

I thoroughly researched brands and costs for various manufacturers of this equipment. The equipment I replaced lasted 20 years in our 2400 square foot house, and I wanted equipment that would last another 20 years or more. I also wanted efficiency. I decided that I would interview and get quotes from four companies highly recommended on Angie's List. Each company felt their brands were best, and each company usually gave prices for good/better/best installations. Warranties and extended labor coverage varied from company to company. After all was said and done, Richards Company gave me the best deal for the equipment, installation, and warranty coverage I wanted. I truly feel that I compared "apples to apples" in making this decision. Thank you Angie's List for giving me the confidence that my investment of so much money in these house essentials was well spent.

He was very professional and very prompt. He was able to accommodate a rush call, and they saved us from buying a new air conditioner.

I starting hearing water dripping sounds coming from the air conditioning unit in the utility/laundry room of our condo and noticed that the drain-pan at the bottom was filled with water. My husband and I removed all of the standing water, blew air down the drain pipe, we also poured in bleach solution as we had been instructed. The next day after all the water was gone and the drain-pan was completely dry, instead of turning the a/c unit back on and potentially having the same problem and maybe causing damage to the neighbor downstairs, we decided to have someone to come out and check for sure that it was just the drain needing to be flushed or the a/c unit needing to be repaired or replaced. We found Richards Heating and Air Conditioning Co and they could send out a technician the very next day. When I called to make the appointment the person I spoke to was very pleasant and helpful, very professional. The next day when technician Sharp arrived he listened to my complaints and immediately went to work checking everything. He checked the complete operation of the a/c unit inside and outside. I could tell his objective was to make a clear diagnosis and not just try to sell me a new a/c unit. Technician Sharp was also very professional and polite. I was very happy that it was only the drain and that I got someone to check it at a very reasonable price and all before a holiday weekend. If I ever need repairs or replacement services I will call Richards first.

Overall my experience was terrible. When I scheduled the service call they told me that they would call me 30 minutes prior to arrival but could not give me any window during the day. Not even a pre or post noon. As my office, like most in Northern VA, is more than 30 min from home, I had to take the whole day off from work to wait for a 20 minute service call. After finally arriving and determining that my problem was a bad motor control module, he said that the module had to be replaced. They didn't have one in stock and would have to order it. This was Thursday and the part was in Baltimore ( I am in northern VA). The part finally arrived the following Tuesday, so I was five days without ac and then they said it would be another day before they could install. I called the owner, Richard, to discus the estimate as I thought the price seemed too high, especially in light of parts prices I saw on the Internet. He said that a 100% markup was normal for parts in my area and that is just what everyone charges. When they finally came and did the repair, I told them to leave the bad part. I inspected it when I got home and in less than five minutes identified the problem as a blown thermistor in the module that was easily accessible and could have been replaced without replacing the entire module. Five more minutes on the Internet showed me that a replacement thermistor is a $20 part and that this is a very common and known failure mode on HVAC blowers. So, instead of identifying the real problem and fixing it on the first day I called in at about $100, they let me roast for a week and jacked up the bill to nearly $900. I definitely feel like I was ripped off and I will never use this company again.

The job could not have gone better. The crew was extremely professional and knowledgeable. We changed the unit in the middle of March and I wasn't without heat at all. They got the old unit out, brought in the new unit and had it working that same day. I took a few more days to finish the job with all the work needed for duct work, AC unit etc, but inspite of snow, they got the job done. I have done a significant amount of work to my house over the last couple of years in particular and have hired numerous contractors from all disciplines. Richard's is without question one of the best. It is just the great quality of their work but also the extremely high level of integrity they bring. When hiring a contractor, you are always a little skeptical, but with Richard's, I have total confidence in their integrity. They weren't looking to sell me something, they were looking to solve a problem and provide a very high quality system at a very reasonable price. I can't give them any higher recommendation. Service was performed in one day and was done well. I did research the equipment used and they really gave me the best furnace for my needs at a competitive cost. I now will use Richards for all my future hvac needs. It was also a rainy day and the techs were very respectful of my home and keeping it clean.

I purchased a big deal from Angie's List. Even though we had explained to him my severe allergies, he looked at the indoor unit and declared that it just needed to be cleaned, but when I came back and looked at it later that evening it was obvious that there were some mold problems in there. So, we had to keep calling back. I do not think he really understood that people with severe allergies like me could react to very little mold or dirt on the A-frame coils, so we had to call him back again to get him to clean up the indoor unit. Basically, he cleaned the plastic tray that they A-frame sits on and he kind of ignored the coils themselves. So we ended up going to a hardware store and buy stuff to spray on the coils to clean it ourselves. We had an additional charge for him cleaning the interior unit and coming out the second time. My husband was saying he was getting irritated by the guy as he constantly kept repeating that he had tons and tons of experience in air conditioning and he knew what he was doing, yet when we asked him to clean the air coils he said it is clean and it does not need to be cleaned. This was even after when we told him about the severe allergies. I kind of would not recommend this company if you are looking to have coils cleaned due to severe allergies. He did reinstall the drain device that we had. What I did like is the fact that he put on a sensor to now alert us if that drain stops up and needs to be cleaned out. Apparently, my husband said he also noticed on the outside heat pump that there was a valve that had been installed incorrectly and he did something to it to fix it. So these were the two good things that he did do. We may hire him again because his prices are fairly good but we were also getting a discount from Angie's List, but he really did not understand why we really wanted this indoor unit cleaned. His prices were very good and much more reasonable than some people we have had. He was punctual.

They came and installed both HVAC and hot water heater systems the same day. They worked tirelessly four over 13 hours. I was really impressed with their knowledge and attitude to providing the highest quality service for such reasonable prices.

Everything went very smoothly. We were able to schedule an appointment about 10 days out (pretty good for hot weather). Technician came within the scheduled time window, called 30 minutes ahead to let us know he was coming. He was professional - checked out the system, gave it a clean bill of health, didn't try to sell us anything else we didn't want - we appreciated that.

Provider was on-time, professional, and provided what I considered as an honest appraisal of the condition of our A/C system.

The technician arrivd on time. He checked my CAC to make sure it was working properly. I was concerned that there was enough Freon and he assured me that everything was working fine.

They came and diagnosed the problem and provided an estimate to make the repair and an alternative to invest in a new system. The repair price seemed unreasonable, but the price for the new system seemed very fair. Their sources for the part said it was difficult to get and would take 4-6 weeks to receive. . Since I am pretty handy, I bought the part online (received in 3 days) and made the repair myself in 45 minutes and saved a substantial amount of money compared to what the repair would cost or the suggestion to install a new furnace. But I thought they were very professional, called in advance of when the repairman would arrive and he did a very competent job.

The technician came out and did a thorough inspection of our system. He was very knowledgeable and professional. He recharged the a/c and now our house is back to being cool again. Definitely recommend Richard's and will use them again.

We purchased a big deal from Angie's List and their services turned out bad. The technician was pissed off after half way through doing the work. I think he found out that it was actually for that coupon and then he was rude to my wife and my wife felt slightly threatened. He did not charge us anything other than the big deal, but he wanted to. My wife made him call the company and they basically told him to just wrap it up and go. They did not honor the big deal until the end of the month, so even if you buy the big deal they would not schedule appointments until the end of that month, which was annoying in itself because if you have the big deal available they should be able to take appointments right away and not start until the end of the month. I do no know if it is anything wrong with the company, but that technician was not a good representation of that company.
