They showed up time and were very professional. The guy that came out answered all of my questions and seemed very knowledgeable. My only complaint was that I was charged a service charge in addition to the $49 for the Big Deal which I did not think was explained properly on the deal.

The initial set up of the appointment was fine. I submitted a request through their website on Sunday the 5th for an appointment, and received a call Monday morning to setup a time. We scheduled for Friday morning in the 8 am to noon window so I could plan to be home from work.. i would prefer a smaller window or more specific time frame, but this is par for the course. We were told that they would call 30 minutes prior to the technician showing up. Friday morning rolled around (there had been freezing rain overnight, and everything was slippery and muddy), and we were preparing - making sure the path to the furnace was clear of storage items, walking the dog, taking the trash out, and all those other little things you do in the morning, while waiting for the call to let us know someone was on the way. We never received that call, instead Mike just showed up around 9 am before we were ready. Lets just say he wasn't the friendliest of individuals - very little courtesy and certainly wasn't 'chatty'. I don't need a technician to be and do those things, but when you're already annoyed it certainly doesn't help alleviate that. He quickly explained that he couldn't get any good readings due to the cold and precipitation outside, and that the best time to do these procedures was in the spring. My issue is why not tell us that ahead of time, rather than wasting the money and time, but I suppose that's why they advertise the $79 deal in the winter. This did not get off to a good start. He was at least friendly to the dog, giving her a quick pet. Not that the house was the cleanest to start with, but he came through with muddy boots and made no indications of taking them off, or at least putting on 'booties' over top to protect our floors/carpet. He came in, went right to the thermostat and asked to be shown the furnace with no talk about what he was going to do. We went down to the furnace where he promptly without a word drilled holes into it and wrote 'Delta-T', again with no words to explain what he was doing. Only through my own experience did I know that he was checking the difference in temperature between the 'in' and 'out'. I'm sure this is an established process (though one I haven't seen before despite having work down on heating and cooling units multiple times), but to do it without a warning was irksome. He proceeded with the work and finished up (again without any real friendliness or descriptions/explanations of what he was doing), we settled the payment, and left. I had to ask him about the results and he essentially just said 'its fine', again reiterating that he couldn't get good measurements or a good feel for the system with the external conditions and advised that we have them back in the Spring. When I went downstairs to check things, I noticed he hadn't taped back over the holes he drilled, so the system would now be leaking air from both portions. I had to go buy some of the expensive insulating tape to cover over those holes. And while its a minor thing, the large bold permanent markered Delta-T is there more or less for good now. So while I'm sure he is a competent technician, the lack of communication, his demeanor, 'destructive' methods, and basic indication that it was almost a waste of money to be out there means we certainly won't be having them back.

Did the job exactly as described. Guys came in during the morning and worked to completion. What they said was charged, was charged. No funny business, just work. I have to admit I don't like it when they come in and charge you if they can't do anything, but I guess that is the cost of doing business. Replaced the heating system and in the freezing cold, that is priceless.

Richard's came out the day before Christmas, which I thought was wonderful. The gentleman was very nice and extremely helpful, Richards was a second opinion. He told me that I needed a new unit, just like the first company had said. The gentleman told me an estimater would call me on Dec. 26, 2013 and let me know the cost....I never heard from them, so, I called them on Friday, Dec. 27, 2013 and was told one of the owners would call me back with the rates....today is January 6, 2014 and I have yet to hear from them. So, I now have another very good company coming this week and installing a new heat pump. The cost is over $8000, I suppose Richards doesn't need the money!

It went well. The inspector timely and did a good job.

Richard's inspected the HVAC system at my son's home in Alexandria. (I arranged this on behalf of my son, as he is currently stationed overseas with the U.S. government.) Richard's honored the Angie's coupon promptly with no hassle, scheduled a timely inspection, and sent me a report not long after the visit. Richard's did say they would call from the site (or the same day or the day after), but as I recall I had to contact them to remind them I had not gotten a report. Richard's then emailed the service ticket as a pdf attachment. However, the handwritten notes on the ticket were not really comprehensible. (It was not penmanship, it was the language.) I called Richard's and spoke to someone who interpreted the note and answered all of the questions I had.

They did a really good job and I would recommend them to friends.

Our recent home inspection indicated our furnace needed a good cleaning. The team at Richard's helped me to select a deal that would allow me to complete the project at the best price. Not only did the staff help me over the phone in selecting the best deal, but once the technician arrived at our house, he did a fantastic job explaining the condition of the furnace to me so I could make the best decision about the work to be done. He was timely, efficient, polite, and highly professional.

This is the second HVAC system Richards installed for me. The first one was a Carrier Infinity AC/furnace unit and this one a Carrier Comfort heat pump unit. They are very professional all through, from estimation to installation. I am very happy working with them and with both systems. Highly recommended.

The "check up" went well and we are very happy with Richards.

At 1130 last nite, I smelled something "burning" -- I tracked it down to my heating unit in the basement. I turned off the system (fortunately we're in a warm spell now) and at 0730 this morning I called Richards. (I'd used them for a fall checkup and had been impressed with their professionalism.) "Despina" spoke with me -- what a pleasant lady to deal with when the stress of such a situation was high (holidays this week, family already in the home visiting, weekend plans now have to change)! She explained that unfortunately their Angie's List deal of $49 for diagnostics was Mon-Fri only, this visit would cost $125 + $40 weekend charge -- oh well, I couldn't wait until Monday. But she would get someone to the house between 0830 and 1200 today. "Pete" arrived after 9am! Very nice, professional and direct, he looked into all the components as I hovered. While the burning smell never re-appeared, he suspected the blower motor was the issue and he confirmed it when he showed me how "stiff" the blades turned -- the bearings were going bad. He tried an old "trick" (he has 30 years of experience with Richards) with a lubricant, but it wasn't working as well as he'd like -- no telling how long the system could run. He said he'd check his suppliers, but it might not be until Mon until it could be replaced, since many were closed this weekend -- the repair could take 30 mins to 2 hours depending on the difficulty in removing the old unit. I could use the system if needed, but we decided we would turn the heater off when not at home. Diagnostics cost me $165. After about 30 mins, Pete left and in less than an hour later, I received a call from Despina -- Pete had located the part and was on his way back to my house! Within minutes, Pete showed up and in less than 1/2 an hour, the new blower motor was installed and humming along beautifully. He said he knew I'd be under stress with the holidays and family already visiting, so he wanted to make sure he got back to me as soon as possible. Cost for install and new motor was $458.78. I don't have anywhere to compare this cost, and am not thrilled to shell out a ton of money during hte holiday season, but it's fixed and I am satisfied with the repair. All in all I was very impressed with Pete and Despina of Richards Heating and Cooling. I would use them again for all of my HVAC needs, and highly recommend them to anyone needing HVAC service. I've used several of the other local companies over the years, but I'll be sticking with the company so long as the great service continues.

I purchased this Deal with the understanding that the provider would schedule a service on the days I asked for. Over a week later, I have heard nothing.

They preformed a maintenance check on my furnace.

We used Richard's to give us a second opinion on a malfunctioning HVAC system in a home we were considering purchasing. The technician (Sharp) was on time. He did a very thorough job evaluating the system. He thoroughly and patiently explained the problems and the steps (and cost) we would need to take to fix the issues. The company honored the Angie's List deal for a $49 service call, even though, it wasn't really a service call. After purchasing the home, we subsequently hired Richard's to complete the necessary work and they did the job correctly, neatly and on time. Our technicians (So and Brian) were pleasant to work with and very knowledgeable. We highly recommend Richard's, even though their price was on the higher side compared to some of their competitors. I felt very comfortable with this company and its workers with regard to their honesty, which is not the case with a number of others.

Their service was great. I did have to call them again because we could not figure out how to work the thermostat. They were always responsive, on time, and cleaned up well. Everything went perfectly and they explained everything effectively.

A family memeber pressed the heat/cool/off button on the thermostat so the heating was off. when we realized the heating was off, we immediately thought the heating system is broken due to recent month's trouble and repair on the system. We did not check the thermostate, that's our bad. We called Richard H.A. and arranged to have someone to take a look. the technician came in and press the heat button so heat was on again. he said the batteries in the thermostat was bad so he changed the batteries and charged us 45 labor for changing the batteries in addition to the service call fee. he could have told us to change the batteries. or simply tell us the heat was off on the thermostat. Anyways, I thank them for their service. but the charge is quite high. I called the company about the labor, but the lady on the phone just laughed about it. she asked me to leave a voice message to the manager and I did, but no one called back. I understand this is an industry where $45 is pocket change. but I thought they could have done better.

This is my first time using Richards -- and it went very well! After spotting a $79 deal on Angies List, I called the company on 3 Dec to schedule a basic cold weather checkup for my HVAC/Heating system. Joanna was extremely helpful and professional. While I expected to wait several days for service, when I asked if they could come on 4 Dec (the next day), she took a moment to check the workload and returned with a "yes" -- they could come between 0800 and 1200 on 4 Dec! Mike showed up at 0830, did a visual of the entire system, used a variety of gadgets to check temps and power, and even vacuumed out the very dusty control box. This struck me as unique -- I've had my system for over 12 years and never did a technician do this! (I've used other companies every year and like to watch what they do.) When he inspected the humidifier unit he said he could replace the filter for $22.84 -- I asked him to do so (I knew it was due to be changed so this wasn't a surprise to me). He also very patiently explained a few other items to me and provided an overall assessment of the unit. I provided him with my coupon from Angie's List and the additional $ for the filter. He was here for a total of 30-40 minutes and was extremely professional. I feel I've found my new HVAC company and intend to use them again for my spring check up and beyond! I definitely recommend them!
