It went okay, actual it wasn't that great, they did the job but basically require that I had to use a coupon printed out for them and they didn't know that I purchase the deal in the first place so it was a mess on the billing side but the service itself was fine. they need to get their stuff together for a billing person.

We worked with Matt to get the quote. He was considerate of our schedule met with us at a perfect time. He never tried to upsell us (the other 4 companies we received quotes from had higher prices but included "free" equipment like humidifiers and wifi thermostats). Matt took the time to explain why he wouldn't recommend things like air duct cleaning or removal of our air handler. All things considered, Richards was the lowest quote, highly rated on Angie's List, and highly recommended by Carrier (the equipment we went with). The technicians arrived at 8:45 right during the 8:30-9 window we were promised. They went over the work expected to be done and checked the price quoted. The technicians were very kind and professional the entire time. They completed the work (outside unit, new slab, new shut off boxes, new inside unit, patching old holes in ducts, and new water heater) by 4:30 even through the rain. I'm very pleased with the work and am looking forward to having a new machine as I go through my third trimester this summer.

This whole process with Richard's was phenomenal! I called many companies for quotes to see what it would cost to install a new unit to replace this one that had died over the winter. I received several quotes - many of them with people who said they had to come out to look at my house (they didn't, I could have told them everything they needed to get me a quote over the phone) and then they all quoted me about $3800-4000 to do the job. Richard's gave me a quote over the phone, since he knows what the job is and didn't want to waste my time. And his quote was $1,000 less than everyone else! Yes, 25% less. I called him back to ask how he could possibly be so much lower, and he explained it was early in the season and he wanted to keep his employees working. And then he read me the prices he was paying for the actual equipment so I could see that he was still making a profit off the job (which I don't begrudge), but it made me all the happier to know he wasn't trying to stick me with an extra $1000 of profit for the himself for the heck of it. He then scheduled the work for 2 days later. He said his crew would be there at 8:30, and would be done by 3:30. They pulled up to my house at (no joke) 8:29. They were all done by 1:30. A perfect installation, and my house is wonderfully cool once again! In short, everything about this process with Richard's is just what I want out of a contractor. Simple, no hassle, honest pricing, no captive consumer scams, punctual, professional, on time and on budget. You cannot possibly go wrong working with Richard's, and I will sing their praises from the mountaintops to anyone who needs heating or AC work done.

Work performed as expected. BUT when I purchased the Angies List coupons the differences between the "diagnostic" and "check-up" coupons should have been explained. The lack of clarification can lead to situations that appear as deceptive trickery by Angies List and positions the service provider unfavorably.

We had some electrical issues with a GFI circuit. They came in one day, on time, fixed everything and didn't over-charge. We will use them again in the future. GREAT service!

Company called quickly to schedule the service appointment and the technician was timely on the day and called in advance of arriving to confirm. Once he arrived, he informed me what he would be doing and what he would need access to. At the completion of the service, he walked me through the results. Good communication through out.

They've installed a new cleaning and air conditioning system about three years ago and they come every twenty year.

Van (I think that was his name) was fantastic. Super informative, explained the problem, and gave me some great maintenance tips. I feel as though we was really honest and forthright and wanted me to truly understand the problem. I feel as though what I paid was extremely fair given the quality and timeliness of the service, and it was clear that the serviceman was a very seasoned professional.

Tech showed up on time and provide analysis of the perceived problem. That was the extent of the good portion of the service. Subsequently, a quote was never provided (hence the F for responsiveness) - I had to call 2 weeks later because I hadn't heard back. Quote was over 2 times higher than subsequent quotes (F for price). When I initially asked for a cost breakdown to better understand the charges - the person on the phone said they don't typically break out the quote! What?! Not sure how you stay in business without describing to your customers what it is they are paying for. At a minimum - labor, parts and miscellaneous etc. can be used. Follow-up research and quotes shows the replacement part was under $250 yet we were quoted ~$1800 for the work. Will not use again nor recommend Richards Heating & Air Conditioning in the future (D for overall quality).

Smoothly. Cleaned the grill which another company said they would do for $200.

I was pleased with their responsiveness. They overnighted the part so we could have heat before a major snow storm that was ripping through the region. I was also impressed with their professionalism, knowledge and skill. I suspect I likely could have gotten the work done for less money, but I chalk that up to getting what you pay for. I needed my furnace working ASAP, and they made that happen.

Great! They were punctual, thorough, and professional.

On Monday a technician from another firm came out and advised us that our heat pump needed to be replaced. I called Richards late Monday to get a second estimate. On Tuesday, Jim Smith came out and gave us an estimate and a detailed explanation of our options. Based on the estimate and the fact that Jim said he could schedule the work this week, I called Jim Tuesday evening to give him the go-ahead and he scheduled a crew to come out Wednesday morning. The crew was on time and completed the job today so we now have a new system two days before a forecast of major snow. At mid-afternoon, a supervisor showed up to check on progress and answer any questions we might have. The Richards' techs, Mickey and Richard, were professional and took care to keep everything clean and tidy. Mickey even patiently explained the operation of the system and the new thermostat. During the first cold week of January, my Nest thermostat and furnace were not working well together (this does not appear to be related to the Nest thermostat bug that happened around the same time), plunging temperatures in my house to below 60 degrees with the furnace running for a maximum of 2 hours a day. After suffering through it for a day, my wife convinced me to order one of the many inspection + cleaning + tune-up deals to try to fix the issue; I chose Richard's for it because I had heard of the brand and they had good reviews. In the mean time, I went to the furnace, turned it off for a few minutes because my father-in-law noted that it can cause the furnace's memory (if there is any) to be cleared and reset. I also looked over it to not much avail other than to figure out what the LED notification lights meant. I also replaced my air vent (which I do on a regular schedule already, but I chose to do it early because it was dirty). Finally, I restarted the Nest thermostat for good measure by simply removing it from the wall, then reattaching it. Once I did all of that, the furnace seemed to come back to life, but I kept the appointment because I assumed that the problem could resurface. I ordered the coupon on a Wednesday morning (late), with the request to have the service done, before I had fixed it myself, as soon as possible, which meant Thursday or Friday. Angie's List gives them two business days to respond, so this was a bit optimistic. Impressively, they responded on Thursday, but they completely ignored my selected options from the Angie's List site, instead saying: > Good Morning <NAME>, Please call our office at 703-241-1900 to schedule an appointment. Thank you. That's it (with my name properly inserted, but this brief message was the reason I dinged the professionalism grade given the lack of comment on my preferred times). So, I called and they informed me that the earliest appointment could be Monday morning. I was disappointed, but that's what I get for using a coupon I told myself. On Monday, the person arrived to do the repair. He was nice and he went straight to the furnace. After a quick inspection, with his much more experienced eyes, he went over the same areas I did, plus the water drain, which I had not looked at. He unhooked one of the hoses and blew through it with a portable hose that he uses for that purpose. To be clear, I'd definitely consider this to fall under the "Inspection" category of the coupon. From there, he pointed out that this was clogged with some dirt or carbon build up of some kind, so he unhooked the tube from the other side of it and unplugged it. Before proceeding, he informed me that replacement would cost an extra $60, which I was fine with because replacing something costs money and it seemed like a reasonably unique piece to my inexperienced eyes. From my perspective, this would have fallen outside of the coupon because it was a parts replacement. After unhooking the piece, he asked to use a sink in the house, and he proceeded to rinse it clean -- instead of replacing it -- and it was definitely dirty. Once cleaned, he returned it back into its place in the furnace, checked that the furnace worked properly, and that it still drained water as expected, then made some nice recommendations about the furnace itself (namely: don't fix it if it actually breaks down because it's at the end of its expected life; replace it with a waterless unit). Once complete, they invoiced me for the coupon and the cleaning, which they charged $60 to do (on top of the price of the coupon, making it $140). I am not the kind of person to argue about paying for a service that I effectively agreed to pay, before being charged, so I paid for the service as requested. However, upon review of the coupon, and reflection, this was a rip off. I paid $140 to have someone do exactly what I did, plus rinse out the plastic piece in my sink, which sounds like it falls under "Cleaning" to me. Like I said, the service was good and they were actually prompt to respond, albeit terse, but the cost ($140 for looking at the furnace and rinsing out the plastic piece) completely defeats the purpose of the coupon. I will not be using this company for any future services because I can only imagine what they must charge when they actually need to do something hard.

They came out the same day, within a few hours of my call. The technician was extremely experienced and knew my rare furnace and after working hard, found a small electrical short deep in the spaghetti tangle of wires in the middle of my unit. He fixed it and it's been working great ever since. It's so rare these days to find a company with actual experienced professionals working for them- I'm warm and toasty again!

Technician who came out did a fine job--straightforward diagnosis and eventual repair-- but office staff's poor communication and company's general lack of urgency left a lot to be desired. As a result, my family (including 2 young children) ended up being without a furnace for the coldest week here since last winter (8 days total). (And this is leaving aside the fact that the quoted price for the part was $200- $300 more than what I found online. I fully expected to pay through the nose for a service call involving electronic parts). Diagnosis was made on Monday afternoon New Year's week. Office staff advised me the following day that the part being ordered had to come from "out of state" and would take 3 business days to arrive. Realizing this would mean substantial time without a furnace, I questioned why it would take so long to get the part, and even offered to pay extra for overnight shipping-- but was advised that part was not able to be expedited (despite fact that it shipped via FedEx). I never received a reasonable explanation for the slow parts acquisition (slowdown getting part from manufacturer, etc.?), and staff who answered the phone was largely indifferent to our plight. Overall, not a great experience for a first time customer (despite the Angie's list coupon for the initial service call). Will look elsewhere next time.

It was fine. They charged for parts and labor, yeah, it was $900. Just for parts, service and the labor. The one issue that I have is they never disclosed itemized expenses, they just gave me a flat amount and I had to pay through my credit card. So the only thing I'm concerned is I never knew exactly what they did as far as money lost, you know, they never gave me a detailed itemized bill. So when I call them after a couple of days they said, no we don't have such things, all that, blah, blah, blah. See this happened because I was not there in person. This was for my rental property. So it was only the tenant. So they did the job but as for my tenant everything was fine but again my only concern is they never disclosed what was the money for? How much did it go for labor and how much were the costs? They never did send that to me. I called them and nothing has come through. This work was done in Virginia at my rental property so that's the only thing, because of these terms, all I could do was call them. The work seems to be satisfactory because my tenant is not complaining. As far as the work goes maybe I will give it a C because they're not responding to the customer as to giving them what was what and I feel that the price was very steep. They could be better if they told you before and disclose what is what and what costs what and come through for the customer. The price is bad, really bad. The quality is okay because my tenant is not saying anything but I'm not sure. Responsiveness is F because they are not disclosed what was done, how would I know? They are very good with punctuality, they did come by right away as expected, maybe A. Because of not returning calls probably a C. Because of not returning calls and they keep evading us a C. I will use them in the future on one condition, they disclose what they did. That's the only issue I have. Try to come through, give me details. They just can't do whatever and give us a flat rate and then.

Great. The gentleman who provided the service was extremely professional, informative and knowledgeable. Will use them in the future to address future needs.

It was good. I had a little problem with the gentleman because he touched some wires and the A/C didn't work the whole night. We called them in the morning and they came back and fixed the problem quickly. I don't think it was a big deal. The price was very competitive. The gentleman was fine and nice. I think he is a good guy but mistakes happen.

We had a great experience with the technician! He came as scheduled within just a few days of my making appt. The HVAC repair job was done fantastically, very professional. I couldn't have been more pleased. Overall, he made the whole process easy, he was very pleasant to work with.

Price was much better then competitors. Service was outstanding. Everything was a positive experience with this company. I will definitely use them again in the future.

Salesperson Matt was very thorough, gave us detailed information about the best products and prices. Work took,him day and technicians seemed knowledgeable except had difficulty putting in the Edge thermostat that was defective and they don't keep extras in the truck. Infinity would have been easier but more costly. Overall, seemed like a fair price compared to other dealers like Nugent and sons wanted thousands more for the same products. Just waiting for rebate of $250. Overall, would recommend them but do your homework first so you know what to ask.
