Nino Design & Construction

I hired Nino and his company for several jobs totaling in excess of 150k. Problems: 1- on one of the jobs we purchased a more expensive sound dampening hardwood floor liner, the sub he used placed it on the first floor. 2- the hardwood floor installed in two of the units after two years is already coming up in several areas. 3- during a kitchen installation i purchased a venting over the range microwave. His guys didn't cut an opening to allow for ventilation. When I talked to him about it, he told me this isn't one that's vented...interesting considering his guys ran a new exhaust duct, and we made plans to install a microwave which can vent outdoors. In creating the vent they used the wrong kind of ventilation tubing, they used the aluminum flex tubing which is used for your dryer. The problem with the aluminum flex tubing is that its flammable, which is why its not up to code for a microwave. It was fixed by our new contractor. We ended up running the steel rigid tubing as far as we could and pray a fire will never get so bad in the downstairs kitchen to cause problems. 4-the most recent renovation of my mothers home required 20k in post construction repairs. The home was built in the 1940s and has galvanized drain pipes everywhere. In doing the demolition in the kitchen the way they broke the pipe caused pieces of galvanized pipe to fall down the drain. This clogged the entire sewer system. Further they didn't properly ventilate the plumbing which was causing a gurgling sound as the water drained. As result of the metal pieces clogging the drain the newly finished bathroom had to be dug up again, and a new drain system was connected to the main. Then concrete was re-poured and the tile was replaced. -During the renovation three skylights were installed, within 6 months one of them leaked causing interior drywall damage. Further because of the shape of the roof a con-caved channel was created in order to install the light. The actual channel itself wasn't insulated causing excessive heat loss. Insulation is being added as I write this review. -A new full bathroom was added with a standing shower. When they installed the drain for the shower they did not install a pit trap. A pit trap is that bend in the drain you find under your sink. This allows water to sit in the elbow which creates a vapor barrier preventing fowl odors from flowing up from the main drain. As a result it was necessary for us to hire someone to dig up the tile, and the concrete slab to add the pit trap. Then re-tile the shower bed. -The flooring installed in the basement has several areas which bow upward, Ninos response is that its the floor. After a while I gave up trying to get him to come back finish everything. Overall his pricing is fair, but the quality of the work didn't live up to expectations. Things were not finished well, there are too many details which were not handled properly. Even today I have two dryer vents outside which don't have covers. I am installing them myself. The only reason I don't give him an F is that I actually like the guy. I would like to rate him a C at least because I do like him personally however the extra money we have spent recently to rectify mistakes his crew made are causing me to give him a D.
