Condon Reed Inc

I asked Condon Reed to come and give us an estimate on replacing our outdoor A/C unit. They sent a tech next morning and said an install could probably be done in about a week. The tech said we needed refrigerant and said how much refrigerant would cost and we said no because we want an estimate on replacing the unit that we know needs to be replaced. The tech said he needed to do more to give us an estimate and talked with someone at the office as he moved through. I was shocked when he gave me an invoice for $170 when other companies charged us $65 for same. I hadn't asked how much before, so I paid what was charged, even though they are required to tell before doing the work. A week later and we still haven't received the estimate and when I called to complain and ask for a refund, the man argued with me. He insisted I had been told what the cost was beforehand and I insisted if I had, I would have said no thank you. He said the cost was for the service, which was diagnosing the problem as needing refrigerant. It did not matter to him that we (I had my husband on speaker phone while tech was in our home) didn't want the service, only the estimate - repeatedly saying that was what we wanted. And never was I told how much anything would be except for how much refrigerant is per pound. The argumentative man on the phone also said he told my husband the estimate on the phone, telling him 2 options so that should count. I reminded him that my husband asked for the 2 options be sent to us via email, which never happened. THEN, he said it must have gone to the wrong email - when previously he said the verbal estimate was what he gave. It sounded dishonest to me. There was no consideration that any of our complaints are legitimate or reasonable and obviously that our payment would not be refunded.

The repair was prompt (the next day!) and the price was reasonable. Randy was very professional and knowledgeable, and didn't mind if I watched him work. Or at least he didn't complain when I did. The repair took about a half-hour to replace a bad capacitor and test the system. The only glitch in this process was that the person who originally took my call for repair said she needed to check the schedule (it was Monday morning, and they were getting a lot of calls), and she would call me back in a few minutes to discuss possible dates/times. When I didn't hear anything by the next morning, I figured I would try another company. Then I was surprised when I got a call from Condon Reed around noon saying I was on the day's schedule, and they were checking to make sure I would be home in the afternoon. I think somebody forgot to call me back the previous day, but everything turned out fine, so I'm satisfied.

I would highly recommend them. I have used them since 1980 on several houses and several systems. They really are the best. I was working for an architectural firm and I asked our HVAC subcontractor who they would recommend and they recommended Condon Reed.

They have given us very good service. It takes them about an hour-and-a-half to go through it. We use them here and at our rental property.

They were not the lowest, but they offered the system that I wanted. I preferred Trane. They proposed a Trane system and different things to improve the general heating and air flow throughout the house which proved to be very effective.

On Wednesday afternoon I noticed that my A/C system was blowing air but it was not cool. I checked the condenser unit outside and saw that it was not running. I called an HVAC company that I used previously, but was told that they could not help me until the following week. I called Condon Reed and when a technician came on the phone, he asked about the symptoms and asked me to check several troubleshooting steps. When he was convinced that it was not something I could fix, he advised me to turn the system off and scheduled an appointment for the following day. On Thursday, I received a "heads up" call from Condon Reed that a technician was on his way. When Randy arrived, he diagnosed the problem right away, replaced a blown capacitor, and had the system up and cooling within minutes. Since the system is 24 years old, I asked Randy about typical lifetime of HVAC systems, brand reputations, components to replace, and costs. He was forthright and very helpful in my gathering information. I was very pleased I did not have replace the condenser or the entire system at this time, but was reminded that I should be prepared to replace it (incur significant costs) in the future. I was very happy with the service provided me by Condon Reed--from the initial call to Randy's efficient and very friendly service. Condon Reed will the first company I call next time I need HVAC service.

Came out right on time with 2 teams and installed a new furnace and AC. Did all the work just right and did a good job cleaning up and hauling away old units. I have used them for 28 years and have always been happy with their work. They only send out top notch people to work on your furnace and ac.

They've been working for me since 1981. I've been recommending them to all my neighbors. Its a small organization and they have wonderful employees and they are very honest. The prices are great.

Very responsive estimator took time to answer all questions and responded to calls promptly. They quickly scheduled the installation and arrived on time as scheduled. The installers completed the installation and removal of old equipment within the time estimated. All the installers were polite and professional. The area was as clean when they left as it was when they arrived. So far the system has been working great. Overall a very easy experience.

I liked everything, from the estimate to the installation. They had great ingenuity about putting in central air w/ tearing up an older home. It was one of the most positive experience I've had with a contractor.

I had a whole house remodel that went horribly wrong. OBVIOUSLY before I joined Angies List. Condon Reed took my phone call and came to the rescue. They had to follow behind another BAD contractor and their bad work- which is never an easy process. Condon-Reed is great. The personnel have always been professional. They have worked hard to keep our old air conditioner running. They have done a good job in doing that for us.

I had used Condon-Reed previously for new furnaces and service. This old A/C unit pre-dated my purchase of the home, but Condon-Reed's excellent technicians kept it in service. Nevertheless, when it was time to replace it, I consulted Angie's List and called in two top-rated contractors for estimates. One estimate was nearly $1000 higher than the others. Another was reasonably competitive but never followed up. After considering all the estimates and information, Condon-Reed answered my additional questions and fulfilled my special requests. It was early in the season, so they were able to do it the very next day. The crew was cordial and efficient. They cleaned up all debris and did every little thing as promised.

.They did a good job so far I have not had any problems with it. They did the work quickly and cleaned up after themselves. I liked them.

I can't recommend Condon Reed highly enough. They were fantastic in doing some very difficult work of removing and re-routing ductwork as part of my basement renovation. I worked with Charlie Smallwood, who was extremely knowledgeable and professional. Charlie spent a lot of time on site and proposed creative solutions for how to route the new ductwork. I never felt rushed and I really appreciate all the time and extra trips he took to the job site to make sure everything went right. The crew that did the work was meticulous and professional and the new ductwork looks great and works great. This was a really tough job and the most difficult part of my basement renovation, and I couldn't have asked for a better result.

They are outstanding. I do compare prices even though I usually end up with them. Furnace and air conditioning which are the high ticket items I need two to three estimates. Their prices are fair. Some people say that they are not low. But you need to look at the whole picture. You need to look at what you are getting for that, and the turnaround time and the customer service. How quickly they will come back to your house if you have issue. I have 40 homes I probably will have 35 on service maintenance with them. The people in this company are great. They don't openly do e-mail with most of the population just because they don't have enough staff to do that. But because I have so much business with them if I cannot get them on the phone you can find them through e-mail somewhere. I have had owners before who have said that they have called them and that they are a little bit high but I need to tell you that there are a large number of things for a home that you purchase and I truly believe you pay for what you get. Just because you find can it cheaper it does not mean it is of good quality or the after sales service is good.

No AC on a 105 degree day. I have a service contract with them. They installed the equipment 15 years ago. They arrived within 3 hours, checked the unit and replaced a capacitor and found a shorted oil heater circuit. which they repaired. Service tech. was very professional and neat. Said he has been with the company for 25 years. I'm very pleased with the service.

Condon-Reed tried, but they came up way short in practice. Neither one of our two units works as it is supposed to. They are unable or unwilling to rectify the situation. The system is way oversized according to their design and short cycles. The cooling units do not properly remove humidity. The heat pump is ineffectual during cold weather. Although they sent out technicians several times, in the end nothing was done. The units cool but do not remove humidity, which remains in the mid to upper 50% relative humidity - uncomfortable. The heat pump output temperature never exceeds 80 degrees Fahrenheit during the cold weather. We had a 25% increase in square footage, and added energy-efficient windows and insulation. Condon-Reed still insisted on increasing our cooling capacity from 3 tons to 6.5 tons. After a prolonged shoving match, we settled on 5.5 tons, which is still way oversized. They also wanted to double the size of our heating system. In the end, we increased it from 80K BTU to 104K BTU, but since the additional capacity does not function properly, we still rely on our original 80K BTU furnace to do the heavy lifting. They rely way too much on their computer calculations and not enough on common senses and empirical experience.

They came right out and got right to work. The job was completely on time and seems to have been done correctly because the work is still holding up. I would highly recommend them based on my experience!

Everything went well. They were very efficient and did whey they said they would do. They didn't push us around with upselling. We called around and got estimates and they were very comparable in price.

I don't like the way they do business. It was misleading. They didn't make it clear that the maintenance was on the new unit only, not on the old unit. I won't use them again. They won't cancel the service agreement, or transfer it and we are getting ready to move.

The estimate they provided was better than a nationwide chain. They were prompt, and well prepared. They do provide service in DC and had all necessary permits and emergency parking signs well in advance. Since a crane was involved in lifting the compressor unit to the roof, coordination was key. They were efficient and cheerful, and made the job seem easy. I would give them the highest recommendation.

I trust this company. They were very courteous. They did the job in one morning and they were all finished. They cleaned up and even took some trash out of my attic for me. They went overboard by doing that. Other companies I'd talked to were only going to give me a one stage furnace for more than what Condon-Reed charged! Mike was part of the wonderful service from start to finish.

The unit first stopped working about a month ago. They came out promptly (within hours of my call), identified an air flow problem, and simply cleaned out the tubes and vents. That fixed the problem until it broke again this weekend. Again, they were prompt (at my house in about 3 hours) and responsive, but this time they were able to determine that the pressure switch was faulty so they replaced it. They could easily have tried to replace some part on the first visit in order to push up the cost, but they just cleaned out the unit and got it working again. When it became apparent on the 2nd visit that there was something wrong other than the the tubes, they identified the problem and fixed it. They also waived the visit fee ($130 I believe) since they didn't fix the problem the first time. All in all, the repairmen were friendly, responsive to questions, and IMHO honest. I would gladly recommend them to a friend.
