In November 2010, Jeff Jones founded and launched Decorate A Vet ( www.facebook.com/Decorate.A.Vet ). Decorate A Vet is a Non-Profit 501(c)3 dedicated to assisting our nation's veterans to make repairs, beautify the outside of their homes and yards, and decorate for holidays.

In the December 2011 issue of Angie's List Magazine, Jeff and Decorate A Vet was featured as a partner with Angie's List Wishmakers Program. This relationship between Jeff's contracting business and Angie's List has been very productive in helping Decorate A Vet renovate it's Veterans homes ( http://magazine.angieslist.com/contractors/articles/wishmakers-connects-contractors-homeowners-in-need.aspx ). In April 2012 Jeff was the recipient of the James S. Elkin Award for Humanitarianism, presented by the Falls Church Chamber of Commerce for his work in establishing Decorate A Vet. In October 2012, Jeff was honored by the Greater Falls Church Veterans Council as our community's "Veteran's Best Friend - 2012".
Work took around 2.5 days. The crew was outstanding in their ability with dry-stack stones. They cleaned up after themselves, and took care of the property while on site. Jeff Jones, the owner was a big help in setting up the design, due to a fall-off grade in the back yard. Use email in reaching Jeff, it is more reliable and he is in contact with you in a timely fashion. We looked over 5 contractors for this work and settled on Classic Stonescaping due to price and product used. You get what you pay for and then some.

Working with Jeff and his crew was a wonderful experience. From the start, Jeff was a visionary, utilizing experience, problem-solving skills, and aesthetic principles to create a concept that no other company we interviewed could suggest. After the initial design consultation Jeff and his crew started promptly on the projected date and worked on the project straight through until it was finished. Jeff was proactive in his suggestions and problem-solving throughout the work process and went out of his way to make sure we received a product we are more than thrilled with. During the work he was in constant contact with us making sure we were happy with the results. His crew was also great to work with -- unobtrusive, hard-working, and polite. One of the things I very much appreciated is that they were willing to transplant existing shrubs and greenery to provide revised landscaping around our project without increasing cost. They cleaned up every last bit of construction debris and left a product we love to drive up to at night. Of the multiple stonescaping companies we interviewed, Jeff came across as the most earnest and honest, giving us a true estimate and not hemming and hawing about price. We also very much valued his work with his charity, Decorate A Vet, and felt like someone willing to contribute to that type of effort had to be a good person to work with?and we were right!
Description of Work: Classic Stonescaping did the following: -demolished an existing stone retaining wall that was collapsing into our driveway -installed a series of tiered stacked flagstone retaining walls on both sides of the driveway, thus widening our driveway -demolished our existing concrete driveway -installed a new paver driveway - transplanted assorted shrubs and greenery and removed several small trees

Jeff was very responsive when we requested an estimate. He also came back out a second time to meet with my husband and discuss the proposed work. He provided an estimate and followed-up regularly afterwards. We got several estimates and Jeff's was in line with most of them, but we appreciated that he offered a military discount and seemed interested in getting our business. We decided to use Classic Stonescaping for the project, and the job was estimated to begin 6- 8 weeks later since they are very busy. The payment schedule was alright - a little due at signing, most due at the start, and the balance due at the end, but I missed not being able to pay by my preferred method of payment (credit card). Once the work started, it wasn't too disruptive, and they were timely in starting and finishing each day. All of the workers on the project were professional, patient, easy to work with, and responsive to our questions and directions. They also seemed to care about getting it right and doing quality work, which is very important to us. During the project, Jeff could not be there some of the time, but he was good about checking in and making sure everything was going well. The work took about 5 or 6 days and everything looks great. We've been enjoying it for a couple of weeks now and have received lots of compliments. Classic Stonescaping have been great to work with and great about following-up, and we would use them again.
Description of Work: Removed old concrete walkway, redid two separate sets up steps to realign them together into one continuous set of steps, expanded our patio base and installed flagstone on the new patio, walkway, and steps.

The wall looks beautiful! Exactly what I asked/hoped for. I shopped around a little bit but got lots of pushback about several features of the yard that made things a little more difficult. Jeff just said, nope, we'll work it in. Jeff was the only person who didn't give me grief or hem and haw or "yes, but" me on the curve at one end. He just said sure, no problem and it was done. (And he, of course, wasn't the one actually doing the work, so he not only envisioned exactly what I described, but gave his work team sufficient descriptive detail to have them build it perfectly.) I have gotten compliments from almost every single neighbor (we had a big street party the evening after it was built so everyone saw it). Watching the guys work was amazing. They hardly even communicated at all - it was as if they were telepathic. They just knew exactly what to do, how to cut the pieces. I never even saw them check a piece, say, eh maybe a little more here or a touch there, nope, they just fit it together like it was made that way. I have never seen so many guys work together so smoothly. The work was done over two days (but did not take two full working days). The first afternoon they simply ripped out the old wall and deposited the stone. Then came back the next day at 0800 and within about 2-3 hours they were done. Almost everyone on our end of the street commented on how they saw the pile of rock in front of our house and thought "oh what's going on here" but before they could ask or watch or find out, it was gone and there was a wall. Everything was cleaned up and it was like it had been there all the time. They're like landscaping ninjas. I would not hesitate to give Classic Stonescaping my business for any additional work we want done and I've already provided his information to three different neighbors. (Oh and I should give Alex Straker an honorable mention as well. He's one of the project managers at CS. He did the original estimate and agreed to everything I asked for. Jeff came out to confirm it as there was a long period of time between the initial estimate and the work - our doing, not theirs.)
Description of Work: Built a small retaining wall for a townhouse yard - it was a non-mortared (dry laid I think is the term) rough fieldstone wall about two feet high, curved on one end, with landscaping boulders at the top.

While I was fine with the several week wait in order to schedule an appointment for an estimate since it's a busy time of year, it has been almost 2 weeks since the estimate appointment and I have yet to hear back from the company or be sent an estimate for the landscaping work I wanted done. The estimate appointment was somewhat rushed but I did manage to mention that we needed some time before the work was done in order to get HOA approval for the work. Now since we have not even received an estimate, we will need to go with another company in order to meet HOA approval deadlines.

When we met on September 8th I mentioned it "may be a week or two" before getting back to you with an estimate. I understand that you needed to move on but we are still within the range of time that I had quoted. If you had mentioned that you were in a time crunch, we could have had it returned quicker. Sorry for your frustration but good luck with your project.

It went great, he had several workers. He responded immediately for an estimate after we gave him the okay, he again responded immediately . It was a very quick turnover time which we really liked . We were very pleased with the results.
Description of Work: The installed three trees in our backyard.
We met with Jeff a few times to plan out the design. He had great ideas and helped us decide on what would work best in our yard. We cannot say enough good things about Jeff and his crew. They arrived early every morning and worked hard until they left. They are all craftsmen in their own right so many different aspects to the job were being worked on simultaneously. They moved the hot tub (1000 pounds when empty) and ripped out the deck on the first day. By the end of the second day they were ready to install the patio. The preparation included moving several tons of rock and gravel around the house by wheel barrow. Over the next 3 days they installed/built the patio, 2 stone benches, a firepit, and 3 table tops around the grill. Jeff was very flexible and worked well with our electrician as well as other contractors who were doing work around the patio. One of the things we really appreciated was that Jeff was on site everyday. We were able to get exactly what we wanted without any delay. It is clear that Jeff likes what he does and has a talented crew who also enjoy their work. The patio exceeded all our expectations and we really enjoyed working with Classic Stonescaping.
Description of Work: 1. Demolish the existing wooden deck and steps leading down from the porch. 2. Excavate the existing ground in the area along the back face of the house to allow the installation of the proper patio base and to generate some topsoil to grade up to the new patio. 3. Move the existing hot tub to allow the installation of new paving underneath. 4. One existing downspout will be piped under the patio and will extend through the lawn and terminate at a pop-up drain in the planting bed. 5. Install 4”-12” of 57’s gravel and 2” stone dust setting bed and tamped with a mechanical vibratory tamper. 6. Install 2” thick Pennsylvania cut (squares and rectangles) flagstone over the new setting bed, approximately 750 square feet. 7. Install (2) sections of sitting benches along the outside edge of the new patio. 8. Stepping stone paths - Install a stepping stone path from the patio to the left side wood gate and will be set flush to the surrounding surfaces. 9. Steps to porch - Install a new set of steps leading up from the patio to the side porch, matching size of the existing steps. The new steps will be built with precast Rocka steps from Techo-Bloc. 10. Fire pit - circular natural stone fire pit that will be approximately 6’ wide (outside dimension) and approximately 14” tall (from the finished patio surface). The fire pit will be constructed to match the new sitting benches above.

Highly recommend. They worked with us to meet our timeline (he worked with other customers to fit ours in quickly), and actually ended up starting and finishing the project earlier than planned. Jeff was responsive and flexible, using email as his primary communication tool, which was great for me. His workers were polite, punctual, respectful of our yard, and made no demands on us (cups of water, etc.) although we offered. They were fastidious about cleaning up the site each night, stacking their wheelbarrows neatly in the corner. They were also our most reasonable estimate, with highest quality materials. There was a bit of a glitch at the outset about getting the estimate, but once I reached out Jeff was very responsive and sent it right over, and still exceeded our original timeline. I wouldn't hesitate to use them again.
Description of Work: Laid flagstone patio, removed large concrete pad, veneered walls.
Wonderful job. Great group of workers. Everyone was on time and did a fantastic job. They completed the job in less time than I imagined and were able to lay 2 tons of stones and other materials in just 3 and half days!!!!
Description of Work: Made my yard a backyard retreat. For years I had a lackluster yard. Too much shade and poor soil created less then ideal conditions for grass. My husband and I agreed it would be best to give our yard a makeover. Jeff was without doubt the best contractor I've ever had. He made my yard an "outdoor room" in a matter of just a few days. He used superior materials to create a backyard oasis. Now we have two beautiful patios - an upper patio beneath our deck and a lower patio where our grass used to be. We couldn't be happier. Thank you Jeff!!!!!

We couldn't be happier with the project that Classic Stonescaping performed at our house. To them, it was a smaller project (front walkway replacement and front step cover) but they treated us and our time/investment as if it was a significant project. This was about the 3d company from whom we'd gotten estimates. The cost estimate was in line with our expectations from Classic Stonescaping. They had done a great amount of work at our swim club (the owner is a member there) and we'd admired the work there, which is how we heard of the company. I was pleased that AngiesList reviews supported the experience our club had, too. I can't wait to have another project in our yard to contact them again. They worked diligently to schedule us in, and we were nicely surprised that they could do the work quicker than even originally thought. Thank you a million. The work really improved the entire curb appeal of the home.

This project could not have gone better. Jeff worked with us to design the walk and patio to our satisfaction, and was doubly accommodating with our scheduling requirements. We told Jeff we wanted randomly shaped stones, fitted tightly together, laid in stone dust rather than square stones in poured concrete. He understood exactly what we wanted. He also provided a detailed landscape sketch that we were able to provide to obtain approval under neighborhood association bylaws. Once the work began, Jeff was on hand when the job started and available throughout the 2-day project. The crew were terrific. They arrived up on time, and showed a great deal of care for their craft. The job foreman explained the task is like doing a puzzle...finding where each stone fits best into the whole. They did a great job. Looks terrific, we've gotten lots of compliments. Once the work was finished, Jeff's team cleaned everything, removed all the debris, it looks great. Would definitely use Classis Stonescaping agaiin.

Jeff was great to work with. He had some very good recommendations from our first meet about the project that probably ended up saving me money. They were able to start and complete the project quickly and dd a great job overall. The flagstone patio turned out great and the wall is beautiful and very sturdy. The skill that they have in working with real stone is evident throughout the project. Would definitely hire again.

From the very first interaction, Jeff was professional, pleasant and very responsive. Before we decided to go with them, he let us know the approximate date that they would start. It was about 6 weeks wait, but we were not in a hurry. We had 4 estimates for the work, and Jeff's proposal was in the middle range. We decided to go with him because of the great references on Angie's list, the pictures of their work on their facebook page, and his responsiveness to all my questions. The work started right on time. The crew, including project manager Alex worked hard and were all very pleasant. They finished all the work in about 5 days. Everything they did looks better than I had imagined, especially the stone walls! I would not hesitate to recommend Classic Stonescaping to anyone.

We had a fantastic experience with Classic Stonescaping and recommend them wholeheartedly. It's a local small business run by Jeff Jones of Falls Church. Jeff and his team transformed the front, side, and back yards of our Arlington bungalow from drab and blah to green and charming. Jeff met with us to come up with a comprehensive proposal for our yard in the front (retaining wall, stairs, garden beds, and lighting), side (terraced garden beds), and back (replacing old splintered wood deck with stone patio with built-in bench and lighting, and putting in gravel driveway). Something we really appreciated was that Jeff designed the proposal to take into account the style of our house and neighborhood - which was in sharp contrast to another landscaper who did an earlier, far costlier and grander proposal for us that would have been fine for a mansion but would have overwhelmed the small cottage feel of our home. Jeff's team, including project manager Alex, was friendly, professional, started on time, worked efficiently, and made adjustments as requested along the way. Jeff responded to every email and advised us on related items like electrician assistance etc. In just 3-4 days our yard was completely unrecognizable from its previous sad state. We live alongside a popular alley for walking to school, dog walking, etc, and our neighbors regularly stopped to comment on the amazing transformation and/or ask who had done the work for us. We're still getting compliments! No question we would hire Classic Stonescaping again. Btw, this company is community-focused - they assist veterans through their Decorate A Vet program, which was featured on WTOP last holiday season.

Jeff made everything easy...from setting up the initial free estimate meeting, to scheduling the job, to making sure the job was complete to our satisfaction. And boy was it ever completed to ours satisfaction! The decision for us to replace the tile was a maintenance issue...cosmetically the tile was in good shape, but we are so thrilled we made the decision to change to stone. The look is so much more polished and our neighbors keep gushing on about how wonderful it looks. Having the work done was also hassle free. The job was completed in less than four days and there was never any mess to dodge, the workers made sure all materials were neat and out of the way at the end of each work day. Jeff checked in with us via email (our preferred contact method) as the job progressed to make sure we were happy with the way things were going/looking. And...the icing on the cake was that the crew spread the bags of wood mulch chips we had purchased to edge the borders of our gardens once the walkways were completed. This is something we as home owners had planned to do, but to finish off the look the crew did it for us. We are ecstatic about the finished product and would highly recommend Jeff and his team.

We were not sure what design we wanted to go with, and really not that excited to just re-pour concrete. Alex showed up as scheduled on a snowy day in January and talked me through some different options to deal with our unique space and issues. My husband was not home and also wanted to talk through some of his ideas, so we had Alex come back to visit with us again to make sure we were getting the design we wanted. Their quote was very close and slightly under what we received from 2 other contractors. As promised, Alex and his team showed up right on schedule in May and within a week made the front of our house the most beautiful landscaping on our street. We were impressed with the work ethic the crew had, very efficient, and they always left the work site tidy at days end. We appreciated that Alex was on site doing work along with the rest of the men so we knew we were getting exactly what we ordered. Their expertise was evident when we watched them build our stacked stone bench by hand, chipping away at each stone until it fit precisely. We are very pleased with the result and had a very positive experience from beginning to end. This company is tops, and Alex is wonderful to work with.
Description of Work: Our 50 year old home was in need of a new porch. The existing structure was pulling away from the house. The job entailed replacing the existing concrete porch with a new concrete porch (double the size 350 square feet), tiling with large Pennsylvania Fieldstone. Adding a new stacked rock bench, continuing the tile down the existing concrete steps to the sidewalk. Replacing existing small garden with a rock garden. Widening the driveway.

They exceeded our expectations - all of the technical specifications were met and in addition the final product was so artfully done that it added a layer of beauty we had not expected.. In fact it was so attractive that many passersby spontaneously stopped by to complement us on the beauty of the job. The job was rather challenging due to the undulating landscape. They designed the shape of the driveway - made extra touches such as steps and a ramp leading to the side of one garage - and installed extra drains to take care of an underground spring that I had not even known about (but was causing a flooding problem). Besides doing everything very professionally - and being very clear every step of the way - all of the crew were very friendly and respectful. I would highly recommend them without reservation.

Classic Stonescaping goes above and beyond and maintains constant and professional communication throughout the entire process. I worked with Alex and he always emailed back promptly for any question that was asked. On the first day of the project, Alex and his crew arrived at 7am sharp as they stated they would arrive. We met and discussed the final aspects of the project and they began working immediately. They installed a new stone patio and connected to our existing deck by installing two steps to step down from the deck onto the patio. They moved a sprinker head and added mulch around the outside of the patio to complete the project. Everything looks great! We will definitely call Classic Stonescaping again anything we need work on our patio. Thanks!

They came out to do the estimate and they gave us really good advice, and ended up doing more than we were thinking of at that time because they were able to persuade us that this would be the right time to do things. In terms of the work, we couldn't be happier with how the patio came out. The price was exactly the same as the estimate. They convinced us that we should do more so we agreed to do more. We were happy with what they did. They did what they said they were going to do and they did it well. They did a really nice job and they did it very quickly, with minimum amount of mess and hassle. They came in on time and they finished on time. I couldn't be happier. We're probably going to have them come back and do something for us in the spring.
Description of Work: Classic Stonescaping & Gardens LLC put in a patio and built a retaining wall all around where our patio is and underneath our deck in October. Our lawn is sloped so they had to build a retaining wall first before they could put the patio in. The patio needed to be level so they put some steps in for us down to our platform for the entrance to our deck and they finished off underneath the deck for us which was gravel and paving stones and retaining wall underneath the deck as well.

Work was of high quality and was completed in a highly professional and competent manner. Seven-person crew was extremely hard-working, efficient and polite. Work site was left clean and neater than it was before the work started.
Description of Work: Built 35 ft dry stone wall, installed 250 sq. ft. patio of with random slate and regraded rear and side yard.
We are delighted with our new patio. Based on other Angie's List reviews, we called Classic Stonescaping and Gardens, LLC and dealt with Jeff Jones, the owner, who visited our home, listened to our desires regarding plans for the patio renovation, reviewed the patio area with us to discuss placement of the various aspects of the job, provided a detailed estimate that included a drawing of the plan, and followed up with samples of materials and answers to our questions. His firm is quite busy, so although we met with Jeff in early August to discuss the job and soon signed the contract, on-site work did not commence until mid-November. However, when the crew arrived, they worked quickly and finished the entire job in only three and a half days. Each day, they arrived at 7:00AM and typically worked until about 3:00PM. They were careful to clean up at the end of each day, then completed a final clean up after all work was finished. When materials were off-loaded in front of our house, the crew laid down sheets of plywood across the yard to prevent damage to the grass before moving the heavy stones, sand, and other materials to the backyard. Before deciding on a contractor for this job, we interviewed three companies. The cost estimate provided by Jeff Jones was not the cheapest, nor the most expensive, but it seemed fair to us. What sold us on choosing Classic Stonescaping and Gardens was that Jeff is a trained architect which gave us a great deal of confidence that he would ensure all structural issues would be properly addressed, and the pictures of the work his firm had previously completed were extremely impressive. We would definitely use Classic Stonescaping and Gardens again if we have any future stonescaping projects.
Description of Work: Removed old 1980's era wooden decking from basement patio area and installed a 16x20 paverstone patio surface with a 2 foot fieldstone wall on either side of the new patio surface. Also installed an underground drain to carry downspout water away from the new patio, a set of three fieldstone steps and small retaining wall leading from the new patio to the grassy backyard, and tied the second story wooden decking to the new patio with two faux granite (formed concrete) steps.
