Jeff and his crew did an excellent and very high quality job in constructing stone veneer walls and steps in our downsloping backyard leading to our pool area. The stone used was a very attractive mix of colors which we had customized to match existing colors in the backyard. The bluestone wall caps were a nice finishing touch. The worksmanship was truly superior. The concrete paver patio coordinated well with the stone walls. He started the project in September as promised (we had signed the contract and paid the deposit in May, but needed to wait for his availability which was fine for us to not interfere with the swimming season). The project also was completed within the time estimated. The only two small items of note: - he had to cancel our first two appointments to discuss the project for various reasons, but afterward was quite responsive and punctual -stone work creates a ton of dust from cutting, etc.! Cover anything in the area or it'll look like Mt. Vesuvius erupted leaving a fine layer of stone dust on furniture. They did do a great job of general clean up with hosing down the pool area, putting in mulch in the flower beds by the walls and reseeding lawn areas affected by the work. I'd definitely recommend his group for other work!

We hired Classic Stonescaping to build a patio in our back yard that we had been envisioning for a couple of years. We met with several local companies but Jeff was the only one who quickly understood just want we wanted. And he offered suggestions for addressing drainage issues in our yard at the same time, which others did not. Jeff and his team were great to work with. Jeff explained all of our options, was very responsive to questions, and coordinated with our gas contractor when it came time to hook up the gas to the fire pit. He and his guys had the patio done in a week and we've been able to enjoy our little oasis now that the heat from the summer has broken. Friends are already asking us who did it and using our pictures for ideas for their own projects.

I am very happy with the work of Jeff and his crew at Classic Stonescaping. Jeff was great to work with and his crew was very professional. When I told him that I wanted a bocce court, he came up with some great ideas on how to get it done even though he had never done one before. It came out great! It ties in beautifully to new our patio and everything looks great with the color and layout of our house and yard. I have already asked Jeff about another project and I have recommended him to my colleague. I would definitely recommend Classic Stonescaping to anyone looking for this type of work!

Classic Stonescaping was amazing to work with. They were professional and provided great advice from the initial estimate to the final product. Their work transformed our back yard! In addition, Jeff Jones had great suggestions on how to achieve what we wanted as an end product. The crew was professional, so much so that many of our neighbors commented on how efficient, neat, and professional they were every day. From the first meeting, I had a really high level of trust in Jeff, which is one of the reason we picked his company for the job. They delivered beyond our expectations. I would definitely use them again.

From the moment we met Jeff when he came over for a free estimate of our project, he listened to what we wanted and helped us through a series of communications to refine every aspect of the job, including coming with us to Sislers to pick out stone and pavers. Jeff and his team showed up every day on time, communicated with me throughout the project what they were doing, asked questions when they needed to get details that we had previously not decided on, and left the area totally clean and organized each day even while they were in the middle of the job. His team are true professionals and so respectful of the property, owners, and each other. Jeff stayed on site with the team the entire duration of the job and worked with them to complete it and made sure they had plenty of water, food, etc, which we found admirable and reassuring in this heat. We could not be happier with the final product and will absolutely contract with them again for future projects that we have in mind.
Description of Work: Install 2ft high retaining wall along the entire front of the property against the sidewalk with proper drainage, reroute downspout drainage under front walkway to down further in the yard away from the house, and clear/level/install permeable paver path off the driveway next to the garage that leads to the back yard fence.

Jeff Jones and his crew were very reliable and did beautiful work. The patio, pond and hot tub base looked even better than we had expected when finished. We planned the project several months in advance, and Jeff was always professional, keeping in touch with us both before and during the project. We were very pleased with the how the work was done and the final result.

Jeff Jones' decision to use Gator Dust as the jointing material between flagstones on top of concrete was a big mistake because Gator Dust should not be used that way. See this link: [*** Link removed ***] Water collected between the concrete slab porch and the flagstones covering it and seeped into our basement, aggravating a problem we were hoping to solve with the flagstone covering. Eventually, the Gator Dust material grew moss, deteriorated, generally looked very ugly, and began coming out in chunks. I called Jeff, then emailed via the Classic Stonescaping and Gardens website but didn't receive a reply. On 8/16/14 I sent this email to Jeff: Hi Jeff, My husband Bob left a voice message today and I'm following up with email. This is to correct an ongoing problem with the gator dust filler between the stones from the 2011 job you did for us. The surface of our side porch where it's exposed to rain never dries out completely and grows moss much of the time. We'd like an estimate from you to replace the gator dust filler with mortar so that it won't hold water. Thanks. We were actually willing to pay Jeff for materials to correct the problem, but he was apparently not interested. Also, we oddly ran into Jeff at a Nats game and appealed to him again to help us out, and he said he'd stop by to take a look. We did not hear from him. In November 2014 we contracted with Bill Bitto, Custom Masonry (another Angie's List contractor) to fix the problem. Custom Masonry lifted the stones, removed the gunk, and mortared them in place. We are delighted with the work Bill's crew did for us. In addition to the porch debacle, a walkway and landscaping were part of the contract. In fairness, those jobs were done well and have given us much pleasure over the past 5 years. However, Jeff's hardscaping skills are better than landscaping. His choice of plants and soil preparation were questionable -- we had to move a few shrubs to better locations, and a few died from wet feet. I have waited too long to post this review, and I'm sure by now Jeff has learned his lesson about using gator dust bond over a concrete slab. Unfortunately, it cost us almost $5,000 to correct the problem he created.

The project went very smoothly and the work was fantastic! Jeff Jones, the owner was very professional and responsive in his dealings with me. The overall effort was so well organized and executed that the crew was able to complete the whole project in a few days. Jeff has a 5-6 man crew that are very hard working, experienced, and worked well as a team. In addition they were very nice and accommodating to my questions and suggestions. The walls and steps turned out beautifully and tie in well with the existing hardscaping. They also made improvements to the existing adjacent stonewall, enhancing the overall look. I love it all !!

I contacted Jeff because he had done some very nice work for one of my neighbors. We scheduled a meeting to discuss the scope of work and Jeff he took my vision and made it a reality. Jeff took the time to map everything out and go through every detail of the patio, grill area, walls, and fireplace. He came up with a wonderful design that fit our space and provided great insight throughout the project regarding materials. Jeff and his crew were very professional, they always arrived at the same time every day and worked very hard throughout the entire day (and cleaned the work site up at the end of the everyday). Also very important to me is that Jeff (the owner) is on the job site about 90% of the time or more. The project was completed in two weeks and it looks amazing! I would hire Jeff and his crew again in the future. Highly recommend.

I picked Jeff from Angies list based on great reviews. I emailed him and he was very responsive. He came to our house and spent about an hour walking around discussing problem areas and ideas. I prioritized landscaping for the front of the house as our number one priority, then identified two other projects (drainage around the house, and a backyard boulder garden) as secondary priorities. The idea was that we would do the front of the house and then whatever our budget would allow on the secondary priorities. At the close of the consultation, we agreed that he would email me a proposal. I waited 12 days and heard nothing. Finally I emailed him to ask when we would get the proposal. I got back an email asking me to confirm the project scope. I confirmed what we had discussed and again asked him to break prices down by the three projects. He replied by asking me what my budget was and telling me that the price could vary WIDELY based on plants, boulder price, etc. He said it would be 12K- 15K plus lighting. That was it. The two sentence email was the proposal, I guess. Never put any thought on paper - no attachment, no listing of types of plants, placement, number of boulders, labor cost, nothing, just a ballpark figure, a statement that it could vary widely, and no description of the work. I sent one more email asking him to break down his proposal by area and he never replied. I believe Jeff has good ideas and good intentions, however, I think he is way too busy to manage all the demand. I guess my project was not big enough so he just let it go by ignoring it. I do not think this was professional service and I would not recommend him.

Response from Classic Stonescaping & Gardens LLC
[Member Name Removed]- Thanks for your feedback and sooty for your frustrations. I obviously conduct business with the intent to eliminate frustrations and miscommunications for customers. As j mentioned, plants and boulders have the biggest range of pricing of all of the things we install. How old are the plants, how densely are they planted, how big are the boulders, that affects access to install, how many boulders...as opposed to patios and walls are almost pure square footage numbers. My email was clearly to try and establish a range, or some general sense, of BUDGET so I didn't undershoot or overshoot your expectations. As evidenced by the 215 other reviews, I obviously write detailed proposals for all of my projects including installation methods, quantities, materials lists, etc. Its the only way this job can be done. Also, no job is too small for our company. We treat each and every one the same as the next. You don't get the Super Service Award in 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, and 2015 for not working as hard as you can for each and every customer. Good luck with your project. Again, I apologize for the miscommunication. Thank you, Jeff

Jeff was very responsive when I contacted him in the fall. He came to the house, looked at the area and provided me with an estimate within a week. He provided drawings so I could visualize the finished product. He does stay busy so he told me it would be January or February before he could do the work. He estimated the job would take about 10 days. The contract we signed was very detailed and spelled out exactly what he planned to do. His crew worked 6 days a week, weather permitting and did indeed finish the job in about 10 days. They were courteous, professional and hard working. Our backyard has been transformed and we couldn't be more pleased. I would definitely use this company again and recommend them to my friends - which I already have.

I've owned this old house (now over 75 years old) for 15 years, so I've been through my share of projects and contractors, and I can easily say that Classic Stonescaping is at or near the top of my list. My new patio rocks (no pun intended) - it's exactly what I had envisioned, and it has completely remade the look of my back yard. I can't wait to get going on some landscaping to enhance it, but even without plantings, it's gorgeous. The main patio is dry-set flagstone with brick edging (they repurposed my old bricks). The wall around 2 sides was tricky because there was already an old concrete retaining wall buried very close to my neighbor's fence, but they were able to remove it and the new wall they put in has a lovely curve - it'll serve as both a retaining wall and seating for gatherings because it's the perfect seating height. The crew had to do some pretty intricate brick cutting in order to accommodate a "soldier-course" of bricks at the base of the curves, and they did a beautiful job. The steps up to my patio door are perfect, as well as the steps leading down to the yard. I hesitated as to whether or not to include the water feature because of the added expense, but now I'm so glad I did (bear in mind that the $20K included that). Jeff designed it very nicely to tuck into a small area and it looks natural and lovely. The birds are digging it and it adds a very peaceful feel to the yard. So in sum, I have nothing but positive comments with regard to the quality of Classic Stonescaping's work. There is more to a project, however, than the quality and craftmanship. While those aspects are probably the most important, HOW the project is managed, and the communication skills of the team, are almost as important. Jeff Jones not only patiently helped me make decisions on the design and educated me on the options, he also managed and coordinated the project with military precision. He knew exactly when to have large stone orders delivered, worked around the weather (this project was done in Jan-Feb), and ran an efficient and organized crew. I loved the fact that he didn't just show up now and then -- he was right there doing the work with the rest of the guys. And even when he was out getting supplies, his crew was able to answer any questions I had and everyone tried hard to accommodate any requests I had along the way. Bottom line: I very highly recommend Jeff Jones and Classic Stonescaping for any patio, stonework, etc. I consider myself a fairly exacting customer with high expectations, and I would not hesitate to hire them again. I will post photos soon!
Description of Work: Removed sad, old, homemade brick patio and wood-framed planter boxes. Regraded entire area and installed proper drainage system. Built dry-set flagstone patio with curved stone-veneer wall adjacent to fence plus stone-veneer planter boxes. Also built pondless water feature.

From the start, I was impressed with Jeff Jones' communication and professionalism. He scheduled a weekend morning meeting (since my work schedule made a weekday meeting difficult) and arrived on time. He took time to listen to the ideas we had for the project and offered helpful suggestions and opinions on what hardscaping materials and install techniques would work best in our situation, as well as plant ideas and thoughts on how to make the most with our budget. He also was very willing to adapt to a couple ideas we had which were a little out of the ordinary, such as adding a border of flagstone on-edge to the front walkway. Less than a week later Jeff emailed a thorough proposal which captured all the details of the project. The proposal was one of the things that really made Classic Stonescaping stand out, because it showed that Jeff had payed close attention to our thoughts for the project (hardscaping design & materials, plant selections, etc) and had clearly taken the time to think through the details and write them out for us to review. We got a few estimates for this project, and none of the others came close to describing the project nearly as well. In getting other estimates, we found that there was a decent amount of variation in cost, or significant differences in the amount of work included for similar cost. Classic Stonescaping was initially on the higher end, but we felt that Jeff has clearly provided the best proposal and was someone that we'd have no trouble working with. After discussing the difference in our estimates with Jeff, he offered to include additional work (the patio flagstone veneer) in the project at no additional cost if we could schedule the work for a slower time of year (late winter/early spring). I appreciate Jeff's flexibility an willingness to compromise. At that point, Classic Stonescaping's estimate was cost-competitive with the others we'd found, so we were happy to agree to the contract. Jeff and his crew began work as planned in early January. We were not given much notice that our project would be starting (I think Jeff contacted me a day or less before starting), but Jeff had initially told us to expect an early-Jan start, so it wasn't totally unexpected, and we were ready to go. Jeff brought a relatively large crew (at least 4-5 guys) and immediately started making good progress on demolition and prep for the hardscaping. Jeff talked through the project details with me once more, to make sure we were on the same page about what was going to be done. Jeff had prepared well - he had reviewed our contract & his notes and knew the plan. The following morning, all the new materials arrived and the crew began work promptly at 7:30AM (as they did nearly every day on site). It soon became evident that we'd have to slightly modify the plan for the walkway - we would need to add an additional step to ensure that step down from the patio (which was a bit taller due to our new flagstone veneer) wasn't too tall. Jeff identified the issue on his own and had the solution (an extra step) ready before letting me know. The solution actually made the project better, so I was fine with it. I also asked jeff if he's like to adjust the contract to handle the extra cost, and to his credit he said that he should have realized the need for the extra step up front and wouldn't charge any extra to install it. Along the same lines, I believe that Jeff added one or 2 more stair treads in the walkway than he initially noted in the contract, to ensure that the walkway sloped properly. It seemed clear to me that Jeff was was focused on having the project working out well, even if that meant less profit. After working with other contractors in the past who seemed to find every excuse to tack on additional charges, I really appreciate Jeff's approach. The project took about 4.5 days total. Jeff and the crew started early and made a great deal of progress each day. Jeff has one crew, and worked with them most of the time. From what I could see, the guys were efficient, competent and relaxed with Jeff and each other. The site was cleaned up at the end of each day. We're very happy with the results of the project. The updated walkway and flagstone porch veneers made a big positive impact on the appearance of the house, and have already received compliments from a few neighbors. We're looking forward to seeing the landscaping as it leafs out & blooms in the coming Spring & Summer. We'd happily recommend Jeff & Classic Stonescaping to anyone considering updating their landscaping and/or hardscaping.
Description of Work: Jeff and the team from Classic Stonescaping updated the hardscaping and landscaping of our front yard. This included: - Replaced the current brick front walkway leading to our front door with a PA flagstone walkway, in a random rectangular pattern. This included adding a few solid bluestone steps to keep the path level. The path was also bordered by a row of flagstone set on edge. - Removed an area of bricks in front of our shed and replaced it with flagstone - Applied a flagstone veneer to the surface of our front patio - Removed 3 large bushes which screened the front of the house - Add replacement plants to the existing beds across the front of the house

Of the 3 estimates we received, Jeff was the only one to see an alternate configuration of the wall to allow for a more sound and safe retaining wall. He recognized the stones used in our existing retaining wall and was able to order the same stone from a local quarry. Yes, the new stones look whiter and brighter than the existing, but you can't really expect new stone to immediately have the same patina and character as 25-year old stones. All will blend in time. As for the installation process, the crew worked like a well-oiled machine. Five or six guys were on-site and had the area cleaned, prepped and ready for installation in no time at all. All of the men were pleasant and professional. The bulk of the work was done in one day, with a small bit of replanting and mulching completed on day 2. One small section of the one-stone border bed needed some further adjustment after the crew was done, and Jeff was extremely gracious and agreeable in arranging for remaining stones to be left so the adjustment can be made in the near future. You can see the difference in quality between the old wall we have and the one Classic just installed. It is heads-above in quality workmanship. Watching during the construction of the wall, you can tell that this wall will last well beyond my lifespan. We couldn't be happier with the work and would highly recommend Classic Stonescaping & Gardens to anyone.
Description of Work: Installed a 27-inch high stone retaining wall on a very steep hillside to terrace the hill and to control soil erosion in an existing planted flower bed.

Jeff (owner) and his team did a great job and I highly recommend them. He was easy to work with from our first meeting and estimate, through planning, and project completion. Jeff has a single full-time crew and they focus solely on your project from start to finish. It was nice not having to worry if the project would be done correctly. Classic Stonescaping & Gardens provide quality craftsmanship, do as they promise, and are easy to work with. My family is enjoying our new beautiful backyard!

We're very happy with the outcome, which complements a recently constructed new home addition and deck. Jeff has been a pleasure to work with. He marries good aesthetic vision with practical sense, and delivers on time and on budget. He also worked directly with his crew on the project, which meant we had regular in-person discussions with him as the project was being completed. This was very convenient and helpful. We're very satisfied with Jeff and his crew, and their work is beautiful. We highly recommend them.
Description of Work: Jeff's team installed two patios connected by a lengthy walkway, using Techo Bloc. Also included were a retaining wall and two stone benches, as well as landscaping and plantings.

Very professional service! Jeff was proactive in staying in touch with me through the whole process; from estimate to job completion. Beautiful results and very fast despite lots of rain. Well worth the price for long lasting beauty :)

We were so happy with the experience from start to finish. Jeff met with us to discuss our ideas and came up with a plan. He met with us at the store to select the materials. The crew was extremely punctual and professional. They worked efficiently as a team. They cleaned up at the end of each day. The wall turned out better than we ever imagined. We would highly recommend them and are planning on using them again for our front yard as well.
Description of Work: They removed the old retaining wall and replaced it with cinderblocks which they filled with concrete. They then faced it with stone and finished it with a flagstone cap. The new wall has a nice bench built in. They put in stone steps that curve up the side of the hill. They installed a drain box and tubing to drain out of the weep hole to deal with water flow problem we had previously. They transplanted a tree to the other side of the yard. They removed old concrete steps by the side door, replaced them with large flagstone steps and poured concrete slabs on either side. Lastly, they ground down an uneven patch of concrete in the garage.

Jeff the owner, is who you work with, both for estimates and install. He is very professional and attentive to your needs. However, due to the company being very very busy, you need to plan way into the future. That said, once work began it continued unabated. Clean up after each day was good. Workmen were cheerfull and work-a-holics, considering that temps were in the upper 90's. I added to the job at the last minute and Jeff was able to accomodate without interruption to my schedule.
