In the December 2011 issue of Angie's List Magazine, Jeff and Decorate A Vet was featured as a partner with Angie's List Wishmakers Program. This relationship between Jeff's contracting business and Angie's List has been very productive in helping Decorate A Vet renovate it's Veterans homes ( http://magazine.angieslist.com/contractors/articles/wishmakers-connects-contractors-homeowners-in-need.aspx ). In April 2012 Jeff was the recipient of the James S. Elkin Award for Humanitarianism, presented by the Falls Church Chamber of Commerce for his work in establishing Decorate A Vet. In October 2012, Jeff was honored by the Greater Falls Church Veterans Council as our community's "Veteran's Best Friend - 2012".
Jeff and crew were amazingly responsive, flexible and easy to work with. They showed up right on time and promptly began work. All of the workers were professional and courteous, and completed each phase very quickly. They cleaned up all debris and the finished product far exceeded our expectations - our yard is completely transformed. We initially planned on waiting a few months between phase one and two, but once we saw how amazing phase one looked, we decided to move ahead with phase two. The stacked stone wall is simply beautiful! We had an excellent opportunity to test the water solution yesterday with the significant rainfall, and our basement was dry as a bone. It worked perfectly. For both the level of quality in workmanship and the quality of materials used, I can't imagine beating the price; the project was worth every penny and then some. We enthusiastically recommend Jeff, Alex, and the crew of Classic Stonescaping.
Description of Work: We were having drainage issues in our backyard where the general slope of the yard cause water to accumulate against the foundation. That was my primary concern, but I also wanted to make our backyard into a more useable space for our children. Jeff met with me and worked up a plan to address both the water concerns and the usuable space issue. He even suggested breaking the overall project into separate phases so that we could do a little bit at a time as we could afford it; the plan for the first phase was to completely address the water issue by regrading the yard away from the house, burying the downspouts and directing all water away from the house toward a dry creek bed that bordered a dry-stack stone retaining wall. The wall would also capture the water flowing downhill toward the house and the filter it into the creekbed and divert it toward a storm culvert. The second phase would extend the wall and creek bed for the entire length of the yard.

Thank you for the nice words on our work, I really appreciate it. Glad everything seems to be working with the 1 1/2" of rainfall. Please feel free to call if you have any future questions or concerns. Be sure to thank Bonnie, from the entire crew, for the home style grub she served up a couple of days. That treatment sure will spoil a crew! ;)

Jeff and Alex and the crew were fast and efficient, and the front area of the property is now the envy of the neighborhood. The work began and ended on the dates promised. Jeff had an innovative vision for what to do, then made it reality. Jeff and Alex were responsive during the work phase when I had a question or suggestion, and the crew cleaned up everything when the project was done. By all means, hire Jeff and Alex, but be warned: they are in high demand and they do not spread themselves thin by splitting up their crew to tackle multiple projects at once. They do one job at a time, and more than likely they will be backed up with projects for weeks or even months when you contact them (I first contacted Jeff in October, and the project was completed in early February). But they are well worth the wait. The work was exceptional for a very fair price. Your patience will be amply rewarded. Ever since they finished, I see cars slowing down as they pass my house to admire the work.
Description of Work: Jeff Jones, Alex, and the crew removed old brick steps and a cracked walkway and replaced everything with stone. Plus, they partially removed an old retaining wall and terraced the area with stone, and they regraded the surrounding soil to solve rainwater issues in the basement of the house.

They showed up promptly and got to work immediately. All of the workers were friendly and respectful and even made sure to wave when the kids stared from the windows. Jeff Jones is friendly, easy to work with, and an excellent listener. When my husband and I were stressed about the size and shape of the patio (we were afraid the patio was going to be too big and square at first), Jeff got spray paint out for us to define the area and try to put our mind at ease. When I was still stressing a day later, he got out there with us again and helped calm my fears. Everything worked out beautifully and my patio is absolutely gorgeous. Jeff was usually available to speak with us, but when he wasn't there, his assistant, Alex, was extremely helpful and friendly as well. Their level of communication with me was excellent. We had zero issues with any of the workers or the work that was done. Jeff even went the extra mile and drew up a plan for possible plants in our new beds (he knew that I wanted to plant them myself). When he gave me the drawing, he commented that the kids would enjoy seeing all the color (of the blooms) and the wildlife that the plants would attract. I really felt like he understood exactly what I was looking for and what would complement both my home and my family the best. I was really impressed with him and his business.
Description of Work: Jeff Jones and his workers replaced my front walkway and covered my stoop with beautiful stone pavers and defined new flower beds along the front of my house. They also built a stone retaining wall and a patio and put new flower beds around the patio and the back of my house.
We purchased a home with a pit of a backyard - between the inconsistent grading, over half a foot of mulch/tree chips, water flowing towards the foundation, swamp like conditions on rainy days, poorly placed fence and out of place wood retaining wall we didn't know where to begin. To put it mildly, our backyard was a disaster! Just when we thought all was lost, we were introduced to Jeff and his team of consummate professionals at Classic Stonescaping by a neighbor. Jeff was quick to schedule a walk-through of the site with my wife and me. We couldn't believe it, Jeff came over one evening and created a sketch and cost proposal with options, he even got us on his packed calendar in case we said yes. More importantly, he did not ask for a dollar, not even a deposit, until we had all of our questions and concerns addressed, which for us meant a second visit to our home and a follow-up phone call! Simply put, Jeff and his team at Classic Stonescaping are everything we have ever wanted in a contractor, but to our dismay, rarely found. We look forward to working with him again and again in the future and referring the Classic Stonescaping team for years to come!
Description of Work: We had the following issues with our backyward: Severe erosion after heavy rains Sinking grade Standing water Water running towards our foundation Embedded construction debris Excessive/rotting mulch Horrible aesthetics Total lack of functional space Awkwardly placed fence Classic Stonescaping implemented the following solutions: Removed an inefficient retaining wall Removed +6" deep of rotting mulch and other debris Removed several hundred pounds of embedded slate rock Installed quality fill dirt Graded the property Installed over 50' of stacked slate wall (ranging from 8" to 18" high) Installed a dry river bed to steer the deluge of rain water around the property to a safe discharge location Installed mulch where requested along with accent rocks Installed Rocka steps from our wood deck and side gate entry point to new yard surface Installed sod on new yard surface Moved existing fence to increase amount of functional space

It was a pleasure working with you both on your new back yard project. Looking forward to the follow up sod work in April. Hopefully, with the new dry and well drained yard the dogs feet will be more manageable. Thank you for your business!
I cannot say enough positive things about my experience with Jeff. His responsiveness, professionalism and creativity were all outstanding. Jeff helped us think through the design we wanted, the options for materials, as well as some creative touches we had not previously considered. I really appreciated Jeff follow-up, ensuring that every question I had was answered, and that I was getting the best deal I could. I think everyone looking for a contractor is looking for that "comfort level", knowing that the contractor is going to do everything he can to give you the final product you want. If you are looking for that comfort level and trust, and want a final product that will be, in his words, a "showstopper", I highly recommend Jeff and his team.

There were no don'ts. We had a drainage issue when we thought we were done-After a big rain, Alex came back with the crew and lifted and relaid that area as well as drilling some weep holes. We got what we paid for and then some.
Description of Work: We had an issue with an old house with two concrete porches. We tried all different kinds of paint but it always flaked and looked bad as well as being slippery. We also had an old poor looking front area near the street that detracted from an otherwise high end home. We contacted a referral form friends and got an estimate and some ideas. Then we went to Angies list to look for other options. We contacted Classicstonescaping and the owner Jeff Jones was very responsive and accomodated our needs to come out on a Saturday. Jeff took some measurements and discussed an idea or two, explained the type of Stone he would use and how to intergrate the project with our existing porches with curves and pillars. When the appointed start date arrived,so did they. They were there ready to go at 7 AM, I think there were 7or 8 guys. Jeff was there working with his crew and his Foreman, Alex, was always there busting his butt and all of them seemed interested in the job and the outcome, We had some add ons and changes which were never a problem so Jeff or his foreman and crew had to come back a couple of different times as we had changes. Jeff is highly professional as was his entire crew. Jeff has some hispanics who work for him and they are permanent members of his crew not day laborers. Therefore we felt that there respected our property. I would highly recommend Jeff and his company to anyone anytime. We got all that we wanted and it looks great!

Hey Member...WHEW we made it! The detail and size of your project took a while to wrestle to the ground but we pinned it. Glad you are pleased with the results. Now, no more Mission work (for a bit anyway) and sit back on your new front porch and enjoy. Please call if you have any questions or concerns. Thank you.
Jeff and the team did a great job. The experience was very good from the first meeting where Jeff listened to us and then described what they could do and started sketching it out on paper right on the spot. He then followed up with a written proposal with more details to the design/drawing. He even met us at the stone yard to take a closer look at exactly what the stone looked like. Everything looks great. I'd highly recommend!
Description of Work: We had a new dry set flagstone patio installed, along with a stone bench and stepper stone walkway and replaced stepper stones in the front yard. We also had an ugly weedy area cleaned up with mulch and stone.

The experience, by far, exceeded our expectations. We will definitely use them again for any future work and would recommend them highly.

The project was extremely well orchestrated. The rate was very fair for the services rendered and the finished quality is phenomenal. Classic Stonescaping & Gardens replaced my parking area with 21A and firmly tamped it down, resulting in a permeable surface, which hasn't washed away with recent rains. They also (more importantly) built a series of dry-stacked stone retaining walls and a small patio on my back yard hill. The craftsmanship and process was superb. They were very careful not to disrupt vital landscaping and planting in the vicinity of their work.

After I recieved the estimate, I was suprised that Jeff was actually out with his crew - the whole time. A lot of times you never see the owner again, or he pops in for a quick peek. Totally impressed. The fireplace is beautiful is solid as a rock. Well, it is rock!

Outstanding work, Jeff and his team did the work in 2 days and while they worked extremely fast, there was no loss of detail and everything was completed as expected. I would hire Jeff and his team again in a second and recommend them without hesitation. They were outstanding to work with and did a great job.
Description of Work: Removed grass and existing patio in backyard, replaced with rectangular and irregular shaped flagstone in entire area; placed flagstone between driveway with neighbor (and replaced grass); placed flagstone step area under a storage closet.
Classic Stonescaping totally reformed the yard of the townehome we recently purchased. It was overgrown in some places, barren in others. The concrete patio was cracked and uneven. Jeff came and drew up a creative plan that kept us within our budget, but gave us the most beautiful yard on the block, along with a perfect field stone patio. His crew was on time, friendly, and truly good at what they do! Our neighbors come to tell us how lovely it is, and we love to spend out time relaxing in the beautiful oasis created for us by Classic Stonescaping!
Description of Work: Installation of field stone patio. Destruction of existing landscaping. Planting of new bushes, plants, and mulching. Drainage installation. Stone wall construction. Rocks and boulders.
Classic Stonescaping and Gardens, LLC could not have been more professional. Jeff's crew arrived every day at 7am, and worked diligently all day. They were extremely responsive and did whatever we asked them to do in the project. Alex, Jeff's second in command, was there all day long every day, and answered any questions that we had on the spot. Alex also quickly addressed any concerns that we had with the design implementation. We were extremely satisfied with our experience, and we plan on using Jeff's company for a Front Yard project when our finances allow.
Description of Work: We contracted Jeff to do a patio and drainage plan for our backyard. He was the only contractor of the 3 that we interviewed that did a drawing of the projected plan on the spot, that was both functional and aesthetically pleasing. The job involved a patio, a retaining wall, a walkway to our driveway and a re-working of our downspouts on the side of our house.

Jeff met with us on our weekend to develop the plan and then started the job on the day and time we had decided on. The job took exactly the amount of days that Jeff had projected. His employees are very professional. The job was done precisely to our expectations and when the job was completed nothing needed to be cleaned up. We plan to use them in the near future for additional projects. You cannot go wrong with Jeff Jones and Classic Stonescaping!
Description of Work: Jeff Jones and Classic Stonescaping is all you need to know for all of your landscaping and stonescaping needs. We used them to put in a backyard island with a gas grill, refrigerator and cabinet, as well as a patio and hot tub enclosure with bench. In addition, he added retaining walls and landscaping. We love all of it.

They were efficient, organized, and fastidious. They demolished and removed a very large deck, a shed with a concrete base, and installed a new flagstone patio, fieldstone wall, and mulch bed. *When they came across an unforeseen situation relating to the patio project, Jeff came up with a practical, appropriate solution to build a low fieldstone wall*. They started on a Monday and were done by Wednesday. I liked working with with Jeff and Alex, and their team because they know exactly what they are doing, and they do it well.
Description of Work: The services performed were : Remove a large backyard deck and large wooden shed with substantial concrete foundation. Build a flagstone patio with steps making the patio flush with the entry to the home, the stairs to the basement, and points leading to the lawn. Build a mortarless fieldstone wall serving purposes of form and function. (*) Put in a mulch bed while extending two downspouts to the yard.

From start to finish Jeff (the owner) was a true professional and a pleasure to do business with. He accommodated our schedule to survey the site, listened to our thoughts and concerns and proposed a number of ideas. We really appreciated his approach during the planning and development phase, which established our confidence in him for the remainder of the project. He demonstrated flexibility in working with our budget to provide us estimates for 3 separate phases of the project. The detailed sketch he gave us helped us better understand the scope of work and visualize the final results. We really appreciated his super communication - he responded to emails and calls promptly and kept us informed of next steps and timelines. His crew was great about answering all our questions as well. He and his crew arrived on time and worked quickly but precisely and ultimately transformed an area that was unusable due to the overgrowth of weeds (including poison ivy) and pooling rainwater into a beautiful area that has allowed us to dine outside and spend a lot more time in our own yard. We really appreciated that Jeff and his crew were willing to replant a tall cedar that was in the way of the new patio to a new spot on the other side of the house (actually they replanted it twice when we weren't satisfied with the initial placement - a lot of heavy lifting (without complaint) that we really appreciated!) Two other points which showcase Jeff's professionalism and customer-oriented service. We had originally agreed with Jeff to seed the area of landscaping that was to be lawn. When I came home on the last day of the project and saw neatly trimmed grass, Jeff explained that he decided to use sod because he didn't want us to have to wait for the grass to grow (from seed) in order to enjoy the full benefits of the landscaping. He did this at no extra cost to us. Secondly, he built a swale for rain water management that we opted to mulch instead of filling with river rock; a heavy summer storm tested the ability of the mulched swale to redirect water, so Jeff came back to observe the water flow and to figure out how to make it better. We talked about options and settled on river rock - his initial vision - which has proved very effective against the recent rains, while being very aesthetic as well. We appreciate the time he took to make sure the whole project was done right and that we were happy with it. We would highly recommend Classic Stonescaping and look forward to working with Jeff again should we decide to pursue other landscaping/stonescaping projects.
Description of Work: Designed, sketched and landscaped side and back yards. Side yard: cleared out overgrown weeds and unwanted plants and transplanted plants we wanted to retain. Built flagstone patio with stone retaining wall/bench. Landscaping included a mix of sod, shredded hardwood mulch, screening plants and a river rock swale to direct rainwater away from the house. Back yard: cleared out overgrown weeds and english ivy and built 30' stepping stone path. Also installed underground downspouts.

Thanks Member- It was a pleasure working with you, the project turned out beautifully with the collaborative contractor/customer relationship. I am glad you made note of the communication, which is only successful if it is considered a two-way street...and it was in this instance. Thanks for making the experience a pleasant one and let me know if you have any questions on the plantings. Take Care.

Jeff came on time and interviewed my wife and me about what we wanted. We threw around some ideas and were pleased with some of his suggestions. Jeff said he would draw up a proposed sketch and a list of some plants and email it to us. We got the sketch and liked what he proposed. It was clear and detailed with a basic plan and a couple options. We were getting other plans from other contractors and Jeff's was the most original and creative. Jeff kept in touch via email and when we decided to hire him he sent a detailed cost proposal. Once accepted we sent a $1000 deposit. Jeff got back to us within a week with a two day window for performing the work. Jeff called 2 days before the proposed date. The team arrived on time and Jeff was present to lay out the details. The job was done in two days and the results were beyond our expectations. We could not have been happier. Before submitting the final bill Jeff stopped by to make sure we were satisfied and provided any information on the plants installed. He also left the plant tags. It was a great pleasure to deal with Jeff and would recommend him highly to any one contemplating landscaping and stone work.
Description of Work: Jeff (the company owner) came and gave us a estimate to re-landscape a large area of our front yard after one of our large oak trees had to be removed. Without the tree the yard got a lot more sun. We did not have many ideas and wanted some creative possibilities.

Again, thanks for mentioning the great communication that occurred during the length of your project, i do think that is what makes jobs successful...Collaboration! Hope all is well with the recuperation after the surgery, let me know if you have any questions on the plantings or their care. I was told the job would take no more than two days, and despite rain that shortened the first day, they were still done on time. They arrived on time, were very courteous and cleaned up well before they left. There were also no language barriers, as everyone spoke English. Because the patio was completed the day before the hurricane hit, Jeff provided long downspout extenders to take all the water far out into the yard, to help protect the patio. He then picked them back up the following week. We also realized that after the patio was completed, there was one planting bed section that now sat too low compared with the patio and would become a potential water problem. Jeff jumped in his truck and went to a local nursery to buy topsoil, came back and carefully dug up all of the ground cover that was planted, laid in all the new topsoil, and replanted the ground cover. That was an unanticipated extra step that wasn't in our contract, and he did it willingly and at no additional charge. I really appreciated that! Overall we were completely satisfied with their work and the entire work experience, and we would highly recommend them.
Description of Work: We had recently built a new deck in our back yard and needed to expand an existing dry set flagstone patio over to the new deck and gate to the driveway. We also needed to level/re-grade the existing flagstone due to extensive settling. I had a personal recommendation for one company, but I also called Jeff at Classic Stonescaping because of the excellent ratings and feedback on Angie's List. This is actually the first contractor I've ever contacted based solely on Angie's List, so I was a bit nervous about it. But after reviewing both estimates, I chose Jeff because of his creativity and attention to detail. Unlike the other estimate, Jeff suggested that the best way to make the old and new patio sections match would be to take 20% of the old stones out, use them as templates to cut new stones to put in their place, and then use the old stones in the new section. The result was wonderful -- you truly can't tell that there is an old and new section, it all looks the same. Jeff also pointed out potential water/drainage issues with the downspouts that were coming out from under the deck, and he created deep river rock wells on either side of the deck steps to catch all the water (which helps to keep it out of the yard and also keeps it all from washing over the patio). He even added a rock well where my sump pumps drains, which really helped a lot! And even with doing these extra things, Jeff was still a bit cheaper than our other estimate.

Member- Hope all is well with you and the new back yard. Thanks again for the support you provided through the entire process. I am pleased to hear that even with all of our wacky rain and bizarre weather, the drainage system has held up well. I appreciated the collaborative method in which your project was completed, i prefer that over the alternative of designing in a bubble. Please do not hesitate to cll if you have any follow up questions. Thanks.

From start to finish, Jeff was fantastic. He brought our ideas into reality and added another layer of design elements I would never have thought of. He worked with us to fit our budget and really delivered a beautiful product. His team did a superb job of preparing the site, removing all debris and left us with a pristine outdoor living space. They aren't going to be the low cost provider, but they will give a completed project you'll want to show off to your friends and neighbors.
Description of Work: Design and build a large stone patio, retaining walls steps and sidewalk in our backyard. Project was over 1000 square feet and included the installation of several large boulders, precast steps and a fieldstone retaining wall.

The crew was very organized. They worked like clockwork without stopping from 7am to 1-2pm. Jeff Jones was always responding to my questions and my demands. Great looking job, great performance, job well done!
Description of Work: Install patio around the back of the house with a small retaining wall around the patio. Install a driveway. The technic for the patio was dry set flagstones from Pennsylvania in stone dust and the retaining wall was dry stacked Pennsylvania fieldstone. Install stepping stone paths around it. The driveway was small blue stones compacted, topped with pea gravel. The entrance of the driveway was set in cobble stones. The whole backyard was mulch with shredded hardwood.

I called Classic Stonescaping because of all the great reviews I read on Angie's List. Jeff and his team definitely exceeded my expectations which were quite high given all the good reports. Jeff listened to my requests and worked with me to make sure the plans for the patio met my needs. He showed me lots of pictures of previous projects so I could get an idea of the look of materials. The agreed upon plan was for a small flagstone patio with a stone bench and that is exactly what I got. Jeff and his team worked quickly (the entire project took two days) and were very polite. When they were finished with the project they did an amazing job of cleaning up. All in all, they did a wonderful job and I love my new space.
Description of Work: I had a small flagstone patio put in my backyard in order to turn a useless area into a useable area. The land needed to be leveled first and a part of the pavement removed from the driveway. So while it was a small patio it involved a lot of work.

Classic Stonescaping was a delight to work with. I competitively bid the project amongst three highly regarded Angie's list providers. Jeff (owner) came out to take a look at our project and provide us with an estimate. Jeff was able to really take our ideas and transform them into a great plan we all knew would be exactly what we wanted. The price was right in line with the other companies. Jeff stayed in contact with me throughout the entire project and was always available to answer any questions we had about the work progression or details of the installation. I had to be out of town the week that the patio was installed, but I had no concerns as I new Jeff would take personal care of my project. The project turned out great, I couldn't ask for a more responsive partner to complete a project with. Classic Stonescaping is your company if your looking for a contractor capable of producing great results and making you feel comfortable about the process the entire way.
Description of Work: Installed a 300 SF flagstone patio in a small courtyard at our condo. Replaced existing drain and inlet with new, excavated area, prepared sub-base, installed natural rectangular cut flagstone throughout.

Classic Stonescaping & Gardens LLC was amazing to work with. At the start, Jeff took time out of his non-work hours to come and meet with us. Even though he had an engagement that he was on the brink of being late to, he spent 45 to 60 minutes with us detailing out his thoughts on the space. Even though in the grand scheme of his work, we were probably a small project, Jeff treated this project and the development of this project as if we were his most important customer. I loved how Jeff wanted to do his best to maximize the space and utilize every inch of the property. He provided us with great suggestions on what would increase the value of our property, add to the functionality of the space, and what would look best in our space (we ended up taking all of his suggestions). In the end, the final design did not look like a fabricated patio, but more of a continuation of the natural environment of the land surrounding our home. Additionally, he hit our estimated budget on the nose with an amazing price. Leading up to the project, Jeff kept us appraised as to his schedule and how he hoped to fit our project in earlier than the scheduled date. Jeff was able to install our patio about 4 weeks ahead of schedule. The project took two days. Jeff and his team were punctual, professional, and busy! Our lives were not altered in order for his team to complete the project making the install an excellent experience for us. The final product exceeded all of our expectations. The stone patio is not only beautiful, but seems to expand our backyard. The wall and bench were done so well that it seemed a natural fit in the ambiance of the space. I was at work when the project was complete and all I heard from my wife was; "I can't believe this is our yard", "I can't wait for you to see it", and "It is beautiful". When I returned home from work, I found my wife and 10 month old reading a book on the new bench and our dog happily sleeping in the new back bed. A picture like this would not have been possible in the pre-existing space. If I had another hardscaping project, I would not even bother to look at other contractors. I would give my business to Jeff and Classic Stonescaping & Gardens LLC again in a heartbeat. Jeff made the entire project easy for us, which we were especially grateful for because we are new home owners. At the end of the project, my wife and I felt like the price tag was a bargain for the value that we were able to add to our house. Jeff exceeded all of our expectations and for that we are truly thankful.
Description of Work: We hired Classic Stonescaping & Gardens LLC to redesign our townhouse backyard. The project was essentially a blank slate. Our backyard was a mixture of white filler stone, one small flower bed, and a large shed. It was simply an eye sore and waste of space. Even our dog would not walk on 95% of the backyard surface. We wanted a decorative stone patio with a decorative style bench and wall around our small bed.
