In April 2012 Jeff was the recipient of the James S. Elkin Award for Humanitarianism, presented by the Falls Church Chamber of Commerce for his work in establishing Decorate A Vet. In October 2012, Jeff was honored by the Greater Falls Church Veterans Council as our community's "Veteran's Best Friend - 2012".
Everything turned out spectacular!! We love the large river rocks that were used which remind us of Nevada! Jeff's estimate was right on and Alex Straker's supervision of the crew was outstanding!
Description of Work: Our home is located in George Mason Forest in Fairfax VA. It is unique because the back yard drops quickly downhill to a forest and creek. We replaced our old pressure treated deck this past January with a new one and needed to complement it with the best stonework that we could find. After reviewing the comments for Classic Stonescaping it was clear that we didn't need lots of bids. Jeff Jones and his landscaping knowledge were exactly what we wanted. The job included demolishing a 8' x 10' wooden deck and concrete slab, installing 2 dry stacked Pennsylvania fieldstone retaining walls, installing 2 Pennsylvania fieldstone patios, installing large Rocka steps from the lower level to new wood deck, and installing a curving flagstone walkway on side of house with river rocks surrounding individual flagstone steps. Additionally, better drainage of rainwater was accomplished with installation of buried 4" drainpipes.

From to start to finish, Jeff, Alex, and crew were great to deal with. It is extremely important to have the same crew each time. We were able to have a lot of flexibility in the design and continued to add/change things up to the very last day of a 6 week project. Overall work time was about 2 1/2 weeks with gaps in between due to waiting for the drought to end in august before planting. Although Jeff is probably not the best in the administration and back office work department, you would be sorry to let that stop you for working with him. Once they are there, you will understand why you hired them. Finally, I would be wrong not to mention the rest of the crew. You can see that they have all been together for a long time and have come to respect and understand each others strengths. I wouldn't trade that kind of quality for the world.
Description of Work: Jeff and his worked on a medium sized project for us. The project included: Removing existing retaining wall and building new stack stone retaining wall with built in firepit Stack stone wall framing existing backyard Removing old plants and debris Installing over 40 trees and plants Installing two slab stone stairs Installing customer purchased slide in hill Installation of large concrete playcourt Installation of Landscape lighting

Thanks Member. It was a pleasure working for the two of you and the kids. I hope they, and you of course, enjoy the new "fun zone". I'm actually honing to incorporate another play slide into a boulder retaining wall project next month - love the idea. Give me a call if you have any other questions or concerns. Thank again, Jeff
I contacted Jeff after reading all the glowing reviews. I needed my entire backyard fixed due to 4 dogs destroying just about every inch of it! I had no idea what to do to fix the problems the dogs had created, as well as stop them from destroying anything else. When Jeff came to view the backyard, I gave him my concerns, and what I wanted done. I knew I needed a retaining wall built and I wanted a patio where the deck was. I needed suggestions on how to keep the dogs from digging holes next to the house. I received a detailed plan on what he would do, what would be involved, pictures, and prices the very next day! The crew showed up on time every single day. They were professional, very hard working and very good at what they do. There seems to be great camaraderie existing between them, truly enjoying each others company and enjoy working with each other. They also seem to take pride in the outcome of their work. I loved just watching them work -- from running with a wheel barrow full of rocks, to chipping at a piece of flagstone so it would fit just right in the wall. They never seem to sit still for a moment, they were always working and working hard; yet I would hear them laughing at something one of them said, which was just great to hear and see! They left the areas of work very clean, blowing off any dirt that accumulated in the court in front of my house from the stones and other supplies that were used. Alex, the foreman was wonderful to work with. He made sure everything was what I wanted before he left on the last day. Then Jeff followed up soon after to make sure everything was done to my satisfaction. From start to finish, my experience was exceptional. I am very happy with the quality of the work that was done. I definitely picked the right company to do my backyard.
Description of Work: Remove one small retaining wall and small cement pad; excavated existing ground to install 2 new stone retaining walls, a new stone patio, river rock beds, re-routing water by excavating the area, french drain, mulching entire area.

Jeff did a beautiful job with drainage and design. The deck looks beautiful and we had a huge thunderstorm yesterday and all water drained away from the house. I highly recommend him and his company. He is very creative and the walkway exceeds my expectations.
Description of Work: I had my old brick walkway replaced with a flagstone walkway and had the front stoop covered in flagstone. In addition, we had very large natural flagstone stepping stones places from the side of the house around the back to the deck stairs.

We had several contractors come and give us bids. My husband was most impressed with Jeff because he was the only one who said the new patio would need a support wall since there is a hill very close to it. He was not at all pushy and said he would write up a contract and email it to us. His price was higher than the other bids we received for approximately the same work but he worked with us and was very cooperative. He said if we could be flexible and allow his crew to install the patio if they had a cancelation he could lower the price. We were fine with that. He even thanked me for letting him know what the other bids were. So we signed the contract. About two weeks later, I received an email asking if it would be alright for them to begin the following Monday. He thought the work might take 3 - 4 days. The crew arrived right on time and one of the crew members introduced himself and asked if I had any questions. I offered our bathroom and drinks but he thanked me and said they had drinks and would take a break for lunch. There were about five men. They did not stop working except for a quick lunch break. They finished the patio and cleaned up in one day!!!! I had never had this type of patio before and there is a gravel/sand type material between the stones. When it rained, this would come up and so I was sweeping a lot. I emailed Jeff to see if a different filler could be used. He assured me that it just needed time to settle, but we could use a more permanent filler. The problem was that it can break. Jeff was right. The filler has settled down and I hardly have to sweep any more. We really love our patio. Jeff was always punctual in his responses, even though his father passed away during this time. I would highly recommend his company.
Description of Work: We had an 8 x 10 concrete slab. Jeff's crew excavated around the existing concrete pad and installed a Pennsylvania cut flagstone patio over that. The new patio has rounded edges and is approximately 12 x 15 ft. They put a small dry stacked fieldstone wall to support the new patio base and mulched with shredded hardwood in the areas immediately adjacent to the new patio. They also included the installation of a stepping stone path from the deck steps to the new flagstone patio.

Hello-I'm glad you are enjoying your new patio and hope it has helped you enjoy that beautiful back yard view of the park. As I mentioned, we can come back in te spring and install a GatorDust material that will eliminate the stone dust you mentioned. For me though, the bet option is what you have now - a very low maintenance surface. Take are and let me know if you have any additional questions or concerns. Thanks again, Jeff

Extraordinarily well done. The crew showed up on time and began demolition of the existing landscape and structures. They had to demolish wood retaining walls and put in gravel, etc., for drainage behind the new stone walls that were built. The first day there was a huge delivery of stone and other material. It took them a full day (plus) to pull out all of the old stuff. They were cautious throughout so as not to harm the existing concrete or wooden decks. After everything was demolished, they spent time ensuring that the drainage plan would work and then they began the construction. Stones were individually fitted to each of the structures and if required, were trimmed to fit. There was some sort of special material that was put under the walkways (and maybe other places) that looked like ground rock, probably for stability. They were there for four days and cleanup after each day was also very good. The plantings were exactly the type we wanted (hardy and low maintenance) and were placed to integrate with existing structures and trees. They left one tag on each plant type so we'd know what was what. Additionally, they gave us care instructions for the entire project. At the end of the project, they cleaned up thoroughly and walked us through the whole project. Throughout the project they were very well organized! The work was superb. In fact, the ENTIRE crew was enthusiastic about the work they were doing on our yard and seemed generally pleased when I thanked them for their great work. Perhaps most importantly, the entire project design and vision were Jeff's...he made the magic happen and it shows!
Description of Work: Demolish and clean out current landscaping in back and side yards. Create landscape and plant design based on drainage, soil, siting requirements, etc. Install drainage from downspouts and around stone walls. Put in stone walls, seats, steps, walkways, etc. Bring in required materials to level to required grade, then mulch. Plantings that met site requirements.

We recently purchased a home which had been occupied by renters for the last 6/7 years, and needless to say, the yard needs quite a bit of work. We live in a very friendly neighborhood and on a cul-de-sac with lots of activity, so we had been throwing around the idea of creating a small sitting area off to the side of the front yard so that we could have a glass of wine, enjoy the outdoors, neighbors, etc. Either way, we knew that we wanted to hire someone to help us get started with improvements to the front yard. My husband met with 3 landscaping companies and was immediately most impressed with Jeff Jones of Classic Stonescaping and Gardens. While on the initial visit, he offered creative/original ideas rather than simply agreeing with ours (which we appreciated!) and he sat on our front steps and sketched out his concept. Jeff was quick with providing an estimate and contract - all of which were very detailed, clear, contained breakdowns of pricing and answered any questions we would have had. He even included pricing and descriptions for a few additional "options" if we were so inclined. He gave us an estimate of when we we expected to have the work done - it was about 2 months out as he is obviously very good at what he does and had other projects in the works, but he ended up starting a week earlier than anticipated. As I described in the "services performed" area, we had quite a bit of work done and couldn't be happier with the finished product - even down to the plant selection and placement. Communication was very easy and quick, as he's fast to respond via email. The crews were there early each morning, very friendly and professional. We've received lots of compliments on this improvement to our house and would certainly look to hire Jeff and his crew again if we decided to do additional work in the back yard. Just a side note, while researching Jeff's company we found that he's heavily involved in a non-profit program to assist veterans with their landscape/improvement needs - we did not hire him simply because of his commitment to the veteran community (rather for his concept, originality and other reviews), but this certainly was a positive in his column!
Description of Work: Provided us with a detailed drawing and written proposal of work to be done, as well as pictures of past projects similar to ours; removed existing stepping stone path and wood steps from our driveway; excavated existing ground to install a new stone retaining wall, a new stone patio, new steps leading from the driveway and a new stone bench with cap for a seating area; fully landscaped two large, overgrown planter bed areas, as well as around the newly developed patio area to create a beautiful improvement to our home; removed all debris and evidence that work had been done; note that our house sits up the high side of our street with slope, so this was not an easy job

Short Review They were simply superb! Longer Review From the beginning, meeting with Jeff Jones (owner, designer) for the estimate to final clean up, the entire operation was professional and well managed.Jeff was promptly on time for our scheduled appointment for the estimate. He had a draft design in my email the next day with pricing and options (lighting, plantings, etc). He wasn't the cheapest, but was very reasonable in pricing. Had to wait a couple of months for the project to start, due to his workload (book him during the fall/winter for next season's work). On the appointed day of the project start, the work crew (nine guys!) showed up exactly on time at 7 am, and worked hard all day. Day two, back at 7 am and completed this big job in two days. They did great work, spent the last hour they were here picking up stray rock chips from the yard, hosing and sweeping the new walkway and the entire driveway where they had staged supplies for the job. Except for the company promotional sign in the yard, you wouldn't they had been here, it's that clean. Jeff also gave me numerous suggestions for plantings, placement and even on trimming an existing tree to open up some heavily shaded areas. Overall, a great experience, and would recommend Jeff and Classic Stonescaping to everyone.
Description of Work: Classic Stonescaping designed and installed a large stonescape project in my front yard. Involved raising a walkway about 2 feet, installing a curving, cut field stone walkway, two retaining walls, stone steps to the porch, and a dry river bed (for rain drainage).

The Classic Stonescape team was at our home as scheduled at 7 a.m. both of the days planned for this job. They were very organized and considerate of where equipment and materials were place to minimize traffic issues along our street and access to our home. The team worked well together and were all polite and considerate of us. Alex, the site manager, reviewed plans at the start and took time to discuss progress with me both days. We were able to make some small adjustments along the way as a result. The team cleaned up the landscaping around the work site and in the driveway prior to departing. All in all a very nice job.

Parts of the backyard were a muddy mess due to the large amount of run-off water that travels from one back corner to the front corner on a diagonal. After carefully examining the yard, Jeff summarized the work that had been done previously done to control water flow and made several recommendations on landscaping projects to help better channel the runoff. In addition, the crew would move about 12 mature laurel trees to new locations due to a fence project. They also moved several other plants in order to accommodate the the "river" design. He also installed new stone for the front walkways from the street and the driveway to the front stoop. He made three suggestions, two of which I decided to implement. The third, was a good suggestion, but I decided to wait and see if the first two would be sufficient to resolve my water/mud problems. An installation date was set. Materials were delivered and the crew arrived timely. The work took several days, and was somewhat affected by inclement weather. The job looked fabulous. I liked the small touches Jeff designed into the river channels he installed along the two fences from the back corner of the yard to increase its attractiveness. He incorporated the laurel trees very well (and all but one has survived the massive upheaval during the middle of the spring growing season). It was some time before we had the first big series of storms to see how the new system would work. When that occured, I was really pleased by the results. The back yard did not turn into a mud bath, and there was not a river of water running under the gate from the backyard into the driveway and down to the storm sewer. Likewise, the water channeled down the short side, was well dispersed into the flower/tree beds. Several other storms have occurred since the installation and I very pleased with how the project turned out. It looks great and works even better. When Jeff arrived for the estimate, I was impressed with his professionalism and knowledge. The design he had in mind worked precisely as he thought it would. His crew were all polite and charming. Although my landscaping/outdoor improvement budget is gone for now, I wouldn't hesitate to call Jeff immediately when I next decide to tackle a yard project that is bigger than I can do or requires more knowledge than I have.
Description of Work: Analzye water flow problem in yard, make recommendations on how best to try and solve it to reduce the amount of mud in the back yard, provide estimates of the project including several alternative approaches; later implement the design.
This was such a pleasant experience from start to finish. After finding Classic Stonescaping on Angie's List, I submitted a request and was contacted by the owner, Jeff Jones, by the end of the day. We set up a time for him to come by my house to discuss what I wanted done. My backyard was suffering from years of neglect and had two wood patios that needed to be demolished and replaced. The yard is also very shady, so there was no way to grow any grass, and with two dogs I needed something that would work for them and not continue to be a dirt/mud pit depending on the weather. Jeff also pointed out that the way the patio was graded at the time was funneling water towards the house, and he suggested that along with the other cosmetic changes I wanted that we also consider some slight regrading to redirect rainwater away from the house and down the hill, which I thought was a great suggestion. Within just a few days of our meeting, he sent me a detailed proposal with ideas on what to do and pricing estimates. I loved his suggestions and had a formal proposal quickly thereafter. Once the work commenced, his team was incredibly professional and efficient, even in the midst of our 100+ degree heatwave. They kept the workspace clean, managed to stay out of our neighbors' way even with multiple trucks delivering materials, and in general were just nice people who listened to us, answered our questions, and worked incredibly hard. After the work was completed, Jeff followed up to make sure we were happy with everything and came back promptly to address a couple of loose stones. I can't tell you what an amazing transformation my yard has undergone - I'm in love with it. Would definitely recommend the company to others and plan to use them in the future for more projects.

I first contacted Jeff in the early spring with ideas for a backyard patio. He was booked through late June but came out right away to give us ideas and an estimate for a patio/firepit to be installed in late June. Jeff was easy to contact and very helpful with my questions about the patio and other possible landscaping I was thinking of having done. He was also very patient with my questions & concerns. When the work was scheduled to be done, his crew arrived on time and worked efficiently for both days of installation. They left the project clean and ready to use. I would definitely recommend them and would use them again for any future stonescaping needs.
Description of Work: We had a stone patio and fire-pit put into our back yard, along with stepping stones to get to other sections of the yard. An adjacent section of the yard that was covered with roots from a tree was covered with Mexican beach pebbles (purchased separately from Merrifield Garden Center). A small raised bed with small evergreen trees was removed to make more room for the patio. A low stone wall separating upper and lower sections of the yard was also built.

When we were deciding who to go with for our project, we got estimates from a number of different companies. Jeff Jones, the owner of Classic Stonescaping, was the only person who looked at the space we were working with and came up with creative ideas to get the most out of our project. He is clearly an expert in this area, and after meeting with him we had no doubt that we wanted to use him for our project. While Classic's estimate was on the higher side of some we received from other firms, the reasons for this really shone through when the project was finished. It's readily apparent that they use very high quality materials, and the craftsmanship is exceptional. The stone wall that doubles as a bench and the retaining walls are well-crafted, having a very natural feel. The patio itself is fantastic and much more than we were expecting. And the stairway access, which was Mr. Jones's idea, was a great addition. Classic also added great finishing touches, such as landscaping around the area and stone accents. Everything looked perfect when the job was finished. If we do any other projects in this area, we will definitely work with Classic again.
Description of Work: Classic Stonescaping installed a large stone patio, a stone wall/bench, a set of stone stairs, a retaining wall, and patio lighting.

The crew arrived right on schedule and got right to work. They kept me informed of what they were doing, answered any questions I had, and were very professional. They worked very hard, did more than I asked for and didn't charge more than the estimate, cleaned up after themselves, and did a beautiful job overall. Although I feel like I spent a lot of money and would've liked to spend less, I didn't bother to get additional estimates as I wanted to work with Jeff from the beginning and was willing to pay more than perhaps someone else may have charged, though in all reality, Jeff may have very well undercharged me, I just don't know. The point is he and his crew did great work and I would undoubtedly use him again in the future, as well as recommend him to others.
Description of Work: Removed all of the existing shrubs, bushes, and ground cover along the front face of the house and along the front concrete walk that extends out to the street. All of the debris from demolition was removed from the site and disposed of properly. New free flowing serpentine bed edges were laid out across the front porch and continued out to the existing maple near the street. All of the existing grass within these areas were skimmed off and removed from the site. Installed a new dry stacked fieldstone wall, in a semi-circular shape, near the large maple at the street. Installed (3) yards of amended soil across the newly defined beds and mix into the soil. Installed new plant material. Mulched the entire work area with shredded hardwood mulch.

I received several estimates from various landscapers and found Classic Stonescaping to be competitive price wise. I chose them because of their responsiveness, professionalism and obvious knowledge about rebuilding stone walls and patios. Jeff was prompt to return my initial phone call and set a date to come out and look at what needed to be done. He took notes and suggested several possibilities regarding landscaping and re grading including less expensive options such as leaving some of the existing shrubbery in place behind the stone wall. He took a careful look at the hardscrabble patio and explained why it was cracking and how it could be rebuilt with slate. He showed me various pictures of previous jobs to give me a clearer idea of what the patio and stonewall could look like. After receiving a detailed estimate of the stone wall rebuild, patio rebuild and foundation fill, I decided to do everything except the patio rebuild. I had several questions and each time I emailed Jeff, he always returned my emails the same day. When the day for the work arrived, a crew of at least 6 men showed up promptly early in the morning and began work on the the stone wall and the regrading. They worked steadily through rainy conditions and finished the wall early in the afternoon. It looks fantastic. The curve of the wall is beautiful and they were able to reuse the original stones in with the new ones to create a wall that blends beautifully with the rest of the stone wall in the yard. The heavy rains later that day were a good test for the new regrading and the water drained as intended. The rest of the fill and was spread around the foundation the next day and then nicely mulched. The regraded area was also seeded which pleasantly surprised me as it was on my "to do" list. They left the areas of work in clean conditions, blowing off any fill dirt that accumulated on the porch and steps. Jeff followed up later that day to make sure everything was done to my satisfaction. From start to finish, my experience was exceptional. I am very happy with the quality of the work that was done and highly recommend this contractor.
Description of Work: I contacted Classic Stonescaping after reading several positive reviews on Angie's List for several problems.I had a curved stacked stone wall, several feet high in my backyard that was falling apart as well as drainage problems in the same area. I also requested an estimate to build a new slate patio over the hardscrabble patio that was uneven and cracking. Lastly, I needed fill dirt around the foundation to cover a visible line between the unpainted brick of the foundation where it meets the white painted brick of the rest of the house.

Jeff listened carefully when he viewed the site in the fall. He responded to all our concerns, and explained options. Scheduling involved avoiding winter and timing with his other jobs. Since we didn't need a firm completion-date, we willingly accommodated his availability. Jeff was embarrassed that the stones & gravel were delivered on Saturday without notifying him, but phoned as that delivery was happening. He and his alert, enthusiastic, knowledgable crew arrived punctually Monday morning and set to work. They were a pleasure to watch as we left for our jobs. The finished product fits very well with our grounds & house. I was waiting to write this until we'd had a few days of rain. Jeff's design & crew & materials transformed our former mud-pit into a wonderful patio, and the drainage system seems to work 100% with no ponding anywhere. The stone pavers are entirely suitable both for lawnmower set-up and projects, and for a few chairs and talking. We really enjoy seeing it.
Description of Work: Install level, dry-set random flagstone patio (275 sqft) in slightly sloped muddy area accessed from a downhill path from the driveway, an elevated deck, and a cellar-door. The drainage-design involved a white stone drainage path at far side and a buried pipe from the downspout at side of house. The flagstone design had to remain usable for lawnmower set-up and other homeowner projects like sanding, sawing. The project included elevating and leveling the muddy area . The edges were mulched to separate them from the lawn.

Jeff Jones designed a flagstone walkway and patio for the front of our house, which was particularly difficult with the unusual space that he had to work with. The entire process, from the initial design meeting, through the actual construction, was a professional, positive experience, and the end result is absolutely beautiful! I highly recommend Jeff and his company!
Description of Work: A flagstone walkway from the driveway to the front door, a new patio, and stepping stones to the back yard. regrading for better drainage, and moving the drainage from the gutters to redirect away from the house.

Excellent. I can say enough good things about Jeff Jones the owner. He knew what I wanted from day one. He was punctual and flexible. He was willing to meet several times to make sure we knew what we wanted. Provided significant feedback. The job was done on time and the crew was very professional. a couple of minor items that needed to be corrected were done immediately. It took one call to Jeff and we had the crew back in no time. Our patio looks great.
Description of Work: Built a paver Patio, plus stoop and steps and some landscaping.

The patio, wall, and bench installation was completed within a 3 day period (rain slowed things down a bit). The project lead and crew were extremely professional, punctual, and thoughtful. Clean up every day was thorough, and once they left the site, it's like they were never there -- except I now had a beautiful patio and bench. I LOVE it! I couldn't be happier. Jeff and his team used 3 different types of stone -- the flagstone as the majority of the patio, the stacked fieldstone on the retaining walls and bench, and gorgeous naturally shaped stepping stones. I asked for a random stone pattern for a natural look. The crew worked so hard and did such an amazing job -- the finished product is just beautiful. It looks like it's been here forever, and is a compliment to my home and garden. Thank you!
Description of Work: 450 square feet of 2" thick random flagstone installed over compacted gravel/stone dust base with gator dust between stones. Dry stacked fieldstone retaining walls along two sides. 7 foot long dry stacked fieldstone seating bench with stepping stone caps. Separate flagstone grilling pad, with stepping stones connecting the two spaces. Mulch all around.

After changing some of the ground cover and plant locations in our side yard last summer, we discovered the changes altered the drainage of rainwater in the section of the back yard where Jeff and his Classic Stonescaping & Gardens, LLC. team had laid a flagstone path in 2011. Because of the new rainwater channels, some of the flagstones were no longer at the optimum height. We also decided that the area where we have bird feeders suffered from lack of definition and points of interest. We contacted Jeff and he came out to have a look. Jeff agreed with our assessment and ran through some ideas for us to consider. We all agreed that it would be best to schedule the work for early spring. On the scheduled date, Jeff arrived with his team just as we were leaving for work and began staging his materials and equipment in the same careful and professional manner as before. Since we had decided to let Jeff come up with the final design and alteration plans, we left home not knowing what to expect on our return. We just knew that if our experience with Jeff was a guide, we would be very pleased with the results of the latest project. That evening, we were thrilled with what Jeff had accomplished. All the flagstones on the path had been returned to optimum height, and a new, low dry stack stone wall had been placed in a serpentine line around our existing plants and foliage to demark, highlight, and elevate the area surrounding the bird feeding stations. Fresh mulch covered all appropriate surfaces. A new stone feature adorned an adjacent spot previously bereft of distinctive aspects, and Jeff had added a raised lip to the flagstone landing he had installed at the base of our deck the previous year, to guard against any erosion that might be caused by our new lawn irrigation system. Jeff also replaced three Skip Laurels that had died since being planted a year ago, and expanded the flagstone entrances in front of our garden shed and laundry room door to make them more practical. Cleanup after the project was so complete you would never know a crew had been working in the yard. For two weeks we awaited the invoice, and finally contacted Jeff to ensure we hadn't missed it somehow. "No charge, it was my pleasure." answered Jeff.
Description of Work: Height of lengthy flagstone path raised. Low serpentine stone wall placed around section of back yard. Flagstone entrance to garden shed enlarged. Flagstone entrance to laundry room enlarged. Stone feature added to yard. Outer lip of flagstone patio leading to the deck staircase raised. Stone dust added to spaces between flagstones on the two patios below the deck.. Three Skip Laurels replaced. Mulch applied.

I called Jeff Jones, owner, in November 2011 based on all the positive reviews on Angie's List. There were two things I wanted to discuss with him- completing the stone wrapping of a new large flight of steps in the front of our house and making a patio in the back. Beginning in Feb. 2011, we had gone through a very long and stressful renovation project which, 11 months into it, culminated in my contractor filing for bankruptcy. Since I was not very happy with the job the subcontractor had been doing on the front steps I decided to ask Jeff about this in addition to the patio. Jeff was very forthright and told me he just didn't have the time then to do the steps but recommended someone to complete the job since he knew it would be essential to have this done before winter began. This man and his crew did a lovely job on the steps and I was very grateful for Jeff's recommendation. I had to wait several months for Classic Stonescaping to do the patio but it was well worth the wait. Jeff and his crew showed up by 7:00 a.m. both mornings and to watch them work was really something to marvel at! Each man (there were 6-7 men both days) knew his particular role and together they worked with speed, skill, and gracious good humor, even when accessibility to my back yard proved quite challenging. There were several things I'd fretted about which Jeff had already foreseen and worked out in advance, one of them allowing for a barely discernible slope of the patio to pull water away from the house. Before leaving, the crew placed my patio furniture for me and did a great job with the cleanup. Owner Jeff Jones, project manager Alex Straker (both of them very patient with my questions), and the whole crew were wonderful to work with and we are absolutely delighted with the finished result! They will be back in a month to do the landscaping.

Thank you for your kind words. I'm glad you were pleased with the outcome. Now I'm looking forward to completing the planting phase next month. Thank you for your business.
They worked quickly and efficiently and had the job completed in two days. They made sure we were happy with the work before they left. The entire experience exceeded our expectations.
Description of Work: Classic Stonescaping removed a deteriorating dry stone wall in the front of our house and replaced it with a two-tiered drystone wall. They pointed out why the old wall had failed. The new wall has better integrity and looks far better than our previous wall. They also installed flagstone stepping stones and mulch behind the wall. In our back yard they removed a crumbling flagstone patio and replaced it with new flagstone. At the same time, they installed a drainage system in a low spot next to our house to fix a standing water problem. The work was done quickly and they cleaned up the sites well. Our new patio and stone walls are beautiful and enhance our home's appearance. We highly recommend Classic Stonescaping for the quality of the work and their design expertise.

Mr. Jones worked with us and came up with solid estimate including a very competitive price. He worked with us to tweak the project and even found a past customer for which he had done something similar so we could actually see what we were talking about. Ultimately we decided to do something different and didn't use classic stonescaping but I would recommend them and would even try them again for any future projects requiring their expertise.

We recently moved in and didn't like the concrete steps and walk in the front of our house or the small concrete patio out back. The house was built in 1958 and the cracked and discolored concrete looked like the original. My wife and I looked around the neighborhood and at some pictures online and agreed that we like the look of flagstone. It was a big purchase for us, the biggest single purchase/service to date on our new home so we wanted to be careful. We searched Angie's List and found about four of the highest rated companies that did flagstone work. Classic Stonescaping rated the highest, with over 70 reports averaging all A's and 46 POH nominations. Jeff Jones of Classic Stonescaping was very involved and informative from our first meeting. He showed up promptly and was supportive of our ideas and offered many suggestions drawn from his professional experience. He sprayed out a suggested outline on our lawn to give us an idea of the area and rough shape of our future patio. He thoroughly explained the process which would cover our existing concrete with flagstone and use thicker stone over soil where the patio would be extended, giving us a lot more space to entertain and enjoy our back yard. Jeff explained the differences between wet and dry lay and the pros and cons for each. He also visited again at our request to answer some more of our questions and to demonstrate "gator dust" that would fill the cracks between the stones. One of the things that sets Jeff Jones and his company above the others is his willingness to take the time to answer our questions thoroughly, even offering advice off-topic about our existing landscape vegetation, irrigation, asphalt driveway, etc. Jeff is very knowledgeable and willing to share information. After we got a sense of what Jeff and Classic Stonescaping would do for us, he put it all in writing along with a sketch of the proposed work. This was very helpful to give us a sense of proportion of the work scaled against our house footprint. It also did much for allowing us to envision the work. The proposal was explicit concerning the size of the patio and materials to be used along with pricing. There were even prices for options to consider such as stone benches and garden lighting if we desired. When we were wrestling between Classic Stonescaping and one of his well-known competitors who offered a similar service at a lower estimate, Jeff was very willing to negotiate the estimated price which cinched it for us, still offering his excellent services at a very competitive price. While the work took a little longer to start than we anticipated, it progressed very quickly. They laid so much stone in only a day or two. We wished we had more time to watch the progress and reject a few stones that didn't look right. But Jeff was very, very responsive and worked with us with great patience until we were satisfied with every stone that was laid. For a reasonable price, he was also willing to allow some "work creep" when we asked if he could lay flagstone on the back step and lay seeded soil along our driveway (soil grading that a driveway company did poorly). His men did all of the work quickly and professionally. Jeff Jones obviously takes pride in his work and offers superior quality and craftsmanship in all that his company, Classic Stonescaping, does. He is very communicative and reaches out frequently by email and in-person. His prices are competitive and he does not skimp on quality or materials. He listens to the customer and offers creative designs of his own. He adds quality touches like landscaping (mulch) around the work and touch ups on the stone, even stone replacement until we were very satisfied. We highly recommend Jeff Jones and his company for your hardscaping and landscaping needs. Thanks to Jeff, we now have a home that we are proud to show and entertain guests.
Description of Work: Classic Stonescaping covered our old and cracking concrete front steps and walk with Pennsylvania cut (rectangles) flagstone. In addition they greatly extended the back patio beyond the existing rectangle of concrete, doubling the usable area. They added a stone bench and landscaped around the flagstone. Additionally, at our request, they replaced a botched strip of grass thrown down by our driveway asphalt contractor.
