I contacted Classic Stonescaping and Gardens after reading reviews on Angie's List. The company was entering its busiest season, but responded right away and Alex made an appointment to do an estimate. I was impressed with his knowledge and he instilled confidence that the company could do the job. He was straightforward too about the challenges of matching the existing stone and mortar. In addition to making repairs resulting from a water pipe leak and an excavation adjacent to the pool patio, the company identified two large cracks in the concrete supporting the patio, which caused many stones to loosen and crack. The company provided an estimate promptly via email, and followed up with a contract. Although I had to wait until the week of September 9 for the work to be done, the date was confirmed in advance and Alex followed up on Sunday evening with an E.T.A. for Monday morning. The crew was professional and careful, and the job was done well. After inspecting the stone repairs closely, I asked Alex to return to go over a few areas of concern. There was no attitude or argument. We reviewed the site on September 17 and all repairs were made that day. I am very relieved to have my backyard back!
Description of Work: CS&G repaired my stone pool patio and replaced a large flagstone step; both had been damaged from a major water pipe leak and excavation. They pointed up a stone wall too.

Alex and his team were simply great. On time - and I mean punctual. When Alex says he'll be site on 0700, count on it. Anyway, we arranged for three bids to redo our front walkway, front stoop, rework the path along side of our house, and also the walkway leading up behind our house to deck. Alex's bid was not only competitive, he also suggested a design that was the best, aesthetically. I especially appreciated that he was good with keeping a large tree in front of house. Its roots have caused damage to walk and driveway, to be sure. But it also provides nice shade. So his design kept the tree and he worked around it. Alex also worked with us to answer questions and ease our concerns about ensuring the work would complement my wife's garden areas and flowers, front and back. As noted, on the day the project began, Alex and team arrived on the dot of 0700 and in five minutes, were tearing up the old bricks. (Which he put on E-Bay for those interested in free materials.) Work proceeded smoothly (Alex is a hands on guy who was digging and shoveling alongside his mates), and was open to questions and suggestions from my wife and me on minor design changes. Three days later - a day ahead of schedule - we had an absolutely BEAUTIFUL walkway and front stoop. The path back to and around house was aesthetically pleasing and functional. And it will be easy to make modifications to the design, including adding flowers and shrubbery over the years to come as we see fit. Alex is old school in his work habits and dedication to doing the job right. We will certainly use him again in future and recommend his services to anybody looking for a quality landscaping contractor.
Description of Work: Installed pavers for new front stoop, pavers for new front walk, new steppers in front after walk, new steppers along side of house, new steppers for back walk.

I worked mainly with Alex, who was very responsive, fast, efficient and professional. We had a little problem with some of the sod and Alex was very quick to come up with an acceptable solution. He was also helpful with ideas and answering questions.
Description of Work: Landscaping, regrading, sod installation.
In short, I want stock in this company. Alex and his team really went above and beyond my expectations. The attention to detail, creativity and operations were outstanding. The backyard was a complete disaster before I contacted Classic Stonescaping. Weeds, drainage issues, small and deteriorated patio... I looked here and saw the ratings and thought to contact this company. Once contacted, Classic Stonescaping immediately responded to my inquiry and I coordinated a meeting with Alex. He was professional and arrived on time. He listened to my pain points and immediately advised of some solutions and went back to research others and a design. We coordinated another meeting to go over the proposal in detail and agreed on a date. Alex and his team showed up promptly on the date agreed upon. The job had many opportunities to take short cuts and instead the team exceeded my expectations in each category. For example, a major painpoint was the concrete steps and that the existing patio seemed to lie 9 inches below it. Many contractors would have put in a patio at the same height. Although this was not specified in the proposal, Classic Stonescaping built the patio level and flush with the steps. Also, wires from Verizon and other providers were exposed, and while not in the proposal, Alex's team applied rocks and setup a plant to cover the wires. The final curves in the patio adjacent to the fence show this attention too. The list keeps going. Alex stuck around at the end to give me advice on keeping up on each of the plants and the grass. Jeff also kicked in helpful advice. Thank you Classic Stonescaping and well done!
Alex and the crew at Classic Stonescaping were amazing. The work is beautiful. Alex is extremely responsive, positive and easy to work with. His crew did amazing work and left the yard cleaned up and beautiful. I could not be more impressed with his work and would use them any time. I highly recommend them.

We have used this company once before and just as in the first job, they were prompt, communicative, and worked quickly. They also cleaned up each day of the project and left no debris behind. The project manager Alex Sraker, as well as all the workman, were invariably pleasant and friendly.

Classic Stonescaping did an excellent job on the construction of our patio. I was particularly impressed that they showed up on the contracted date and completed the work in 3 days - well within the estimate of 3 - 5 days quoted. The price was the best I found, and I was able to select the brand and color of pavers. The owner, Jeffrey Jones was on site every day, and worked with me and was able to accommodate changes that I wanted to make during the project build.
Description of Work: Built ~15 by 20 foot paver patio with a stone bench and walkway
This company was great. The owner came by the house in advance and designed a practical and beautiful landscaping project. They gave us a schedule and stuck to it. They were neat, polite and cleaned up the area daily. The best part of the service however was the quality of the work and appearance of the grounds. Comments were received from all the neighbors. The drainage system has worked superbly and we're no longer losing ground cover. We highly recommend this company to anyone in the area considering landscaping projects. Classic Stonescaping & Gardens is a dependable company with quality staff and quality results!
Description of Work: Completely landscaped a sloping back yard, constructed stone barrier fencing, designed and installed a drainage system, mulched the shaded areas, sodded the areas with minimal coverage, and installed aesthetic stone constructs in key areas. Additionally, removed grass from front lawn, graded the surface and planted new sod covering.

Jeff Jones quickly responded to our request for an estimate and offered excellent ideas on design to achieve desired effect. It involved a complete makeover of our front yard. They arrived on time, completed work in 3 days as scheduled, cleaned up thoroughly, and came in as budgeted. Throughout the experience, Jeff, Alex, and the crew were totally professional and pleasant to deal with. Jeff has an excellent eye for design and execution. We could not be happier and recommend Jeff highly.
Description of Work: Built large retaining wall, 3 accent walls, and planted entire area with plants they selected.
The team came in and organized the back patio in order to remove all the old grout. They then dug out the two sides of the patio, about 2 feet wide and poured concrete. After grinding out all the old mortar they re-jointed the entire patio, including the new additional 4 feet of stone they installed. The new stone was so close in match to the existing stone, it looked like it had be installed 15 years ago with the original. The grout was perfect. They even pulled up loose stones and made repairs, to include the steps and landing to the back driveway. The area where they could not put stone along the fence (about 3 inches), they installed new mulch. When done, they cleaned everything up. They only did not replace furniture back in its location because we told them not to worry about it as we were going to rearrange everything now that we had all that additional space. Great job! We would use them again and have recommended them to friends.
Description of Work: 1) extend patio in two sides - approximately 40 sf per side. These areas will be excavated, gravel installed, 4" concrete slab poured, and new flagstone veneered to the surface. 2) grind/remove existing mortar joints across entire patio and re-point joints with new mortar to match new sections. The existing flagstone patio will remain in place and only the joints will need to be repaired. 3) replace one broken stone at top of rear steps. 4) re-install one loose stone at too of steps.

It all went very well. Over a three day period, the crew installed several walls, a flagstone patio, plants, a play slide and a drain in my highly sloped backyard. Additional plants were placed on the side of the house. I am very pleased with the results. One of the reasons I went with Jeff's company, beyond the great ratings, was that they have experience incorporating play slides into the landscape. They were very thoughtful with the placement of the slide into the stone and plant features to be sure that our kids had a safe path up to the top of the slide and a soft landing at the bottom. If you plan to add one to your yard, I would have been more careful about the tilt of the slide as water pools at the bottom of it.
Description of Work: Installed terraced stone walls, steps, a flagstone patio, and foundation plantings around the back and sides of my house.
My Experience Estimate Classic Stonescaping is a class act. Jeffrey Jones, the owner, came out and provided a free estimate regarding the work and various options. He was patient in answering all of my question, provided good input and suggestions, and was easy to talk with about the potential work. The discussion was low pressure and instilled in me a sense of confidence in the owner and the manner in which they do business. Not long after he came out, he provided me with a free professional-looking estimate/proposal, prepared neatly, typed up, and sent via PDF via email. He then followed up to see if I had any questions. Project Once I decided to proceed, Jeff gave me a reasonable time estimate in which the work would begin. A few days before the project started, he sent me an email to let me know. As promised, his crew showed up on the day he said they would and got right to work. They were polite and efficient. The project manager, Alex, asked me if I had any questions throughout the project and was polite and curtious (as were all of the crew). Due to some significant rain storms over several days during the work, the project took a few days longer than anticipated to complete. Jeff and Alex kept in communication regarding the status of the project and the impact of the rain and did not rush through it just to get it done. I believe they took the time necessary to complete the project in a quality manner. The crew cleaned up and disposed of the debris from their work. The finished product looks fantastic. Follow Up After completing the project, Jeff followed up to see if I was happy with the work. As I would imagine is the case with any stone work, there were a few very minor touch ups, which Jeff asked me to designate with blue painters tape. Within a matter of days, those minor touch ups were taken care of. Further, Jeff made clear that if I saw anything else that might have been missed, I could reach out to him and they would take care of it. Overall Great work and customer service. Could not have asked for a better experience.
Description of Work: The team from Classic Stonescaping performed two main renovations. First, they removed an existing concrete patio in the back yard and replaced it with Pennsylvania random flagstone across the new patio surface. Adjacent areas were mulched with shredded hardwood mulch. Second, they installed Pennsylvania rectangular flagstone on the front yard walkway and stoop.

Jeff Jones responded to our initial call promptly and came to the house to survey our situation and suggest a design approach. His proposal was also prompt and detailed. The initial estimated start date had to be postponed one week, mostly due to weather. The crew was skilled and very professional and the work was completed in about a week. Mr Jones was on site daily and responded quickly to our questions and concerns. They waited until after 7:00 each day so as not to disturb the neighborhood and worked each day until about 2:30 or 3:00. And finally, we have a front stairway that is the envy of the neighborhood. Throughout, Mr Jones stressed that a major consideration was designing and building something that blended with the house design as if it might have been part of the original plans of the house construction.
Description of Work: Replaced front walk between the sidewalk and the house, in particular making it more accessible for elderly relatives. Removed old walkway, built new walkway with flagstone surface and stone walls on either side. Installed lighting system for night visibility. Built pathway from front to side of house using large step-stones.
Our interface was with Alex. He was very professional and accommodating to our design requests. He work very quickly to deliver a diagram for HOA submittal which was turned around in short order. He also worked on some minor modifications during the final planning. He has a vision for stone design and what works and appears beautiful. His input into our vision resulted in an amazing patio that transformed our backyard from a non-functional hill into a patio the envy of the neighborhood. Thank you so much Alex! You truly have a gift and we are thankful you worked your magic in our yard! If that's not enough, I had a minor request after the job was complete. He was back at our place implementing some final touches. He stands by his work, which is comforting to know when you invest in a large project.

My experience with Classic Stonescaping started quite positive, but unfortunately ended as an overall negative. Ultimately, I paid for work I never received, which is pretty fundamental, so I have to give an overall grade of a D. The biggest issue started when I was considering various contractors. I asked the owner of Classic Stonescaping whether my wall would be placed on a gravel base. He said that yes, the wall would be placed on a 4? tamped gravel base and he gave me an estimate that reflected the work and materials. A couple months after installation, I was doing a project next to the installed wall and I noticed there was no gravel base under the entire wall; it was placed right on the clay. This is a real issue. First, I paid for something I didn't get. Second, its absence can compromise the long-term stability of the wall. In correspondence with the owner about this issue, he debated a gravel base was even needed, and then stated he had only said he?d include one because I?d mentioned other landscapers had recommended it. (Indeed, I was told explicitly by other landscapers that ?whatever I do, just don't have someone place the wall on wet clay?). As a compromise, the owner said that he would refund the money that would have gone toward the gravel base and come out that week to check for movement of the wall. That never happened (which, as of posting this review, was a month and half ago). Perhaps this is ?small potatoes? to him, but the experience reflects poorly on the workmanship and follow-through. The other thing that didn't set quite right was that my estimate from the owner was $4,500. We discussed stone options and I selected one that added $1,200 to the original estimate (for what I assumed was $5,700). I then presented him with an Angies list coupon for a 10% discount. When he provided a final estimate, it was still $5700 which he said reflected the 10% discount. I felt that he did not actually apply the coupon. But, at this point I just wanted the work done, so I didn?t further pursue it. Perhaps I should have. Positive: The owner was typically very responsive (except he never followed up on his promise of a refund check and to re-evaluate his work). He left the excess stone at my request which was very nice. He left the work site very clean upon departure, which considering the rain and mud, could not have been easy. He accommodated a last minute request to fit a drain pipe hole in the wall. On the workday: The team of folks (around 7 people) arrived at 7 AM on a rainy January morning. They worked hurriedly in rotten conditions and were finished by 2 PM. It?s unclear whether the steady rain caused them to hurry and forego adding a base for the stone wall. Today: The wall looks nice. The stone is beautiful. The general stacking and fitting of the materials is done well, but the wall is not particularly level from one end of the property to the other as is the case with well-built walls you see in the community. I remain concerned that that situation will worsen without an appropriate base.
Description of Work: The project was a simple dry stack field stone wall, adjacent to the road, ~50 ft long, 18” high. It was installed in January 2013.

Wonderful! Totally transformed my backyard! Jeff and his crew do outstanding work and they do it very efficiently. They completed the patio in less than 3 days. Other vendors were estimating 2 to 3 weeks. Jeff (the owner) was very responsive to all of my concerns. He came back again 3 months and cleaned the Penn flagstones that he put down (the joint material created a dirty film on the stones). Excellent service, can't recommend him enough.
Description of Work: Put a new stone patio with steps and a flower bed in my backyard.
We needed our patio re-done because it was falling apart but we weren't sure what would be the best replacement for it - where it would kind of flow and look nice. Within a few days of our phone call, Jeff Jones came out and was able to give some good advice as to what would work best and explained what might be involved in tearing up the old patio. Once the work was scheduled, it took about a week's worth of time to complete (though not in a single week): Day one was demo of the old patio and prep of ground for the new stone; day two was laying out the bluestone patio; day three was laying out the brick walkway; the bluestone had to sit for a week to settle; than approximately another 1/2 day to finish up the final grouting on the blue stone, do a little landscaping and put down mulch; and another couple of hours (separate day) to put in the ground/foot lighting for the patio. The final product looks great and we are very pleased with it - they even saved and replanted some of our plants during the process. Mr. Jones and his employees were very professional and unobtrusive and answered any questions we had; plus, Jeff was very responsive when we called and/or emailed him questions. The only thing that customers need to be aware of is that this family owned business is BUSY so you need to plan ahead when scheduling. We had our initial conversation and contract around February, but work didn't start until late May - which was made clear when we signed the contract. ---the scheduling wait is worth it because you get a quality product--that will not be the case with a contractor that "can start tomorrow". After the work was completed, Jeff came by himself to check that we were satisfied - not only with my husband, but checked by email with me to make sure I was ok with everything too.

Jeff responded the same day to my original email inquiry and warned that it may be a month before they could come out to conduct an estimate and several months before they could start our project. I responded immediately asking to be scheduled for an estimate on the first available date. I heard nothing back for three weeks so I wrote Jeff again asking if we had been scheduled for an estimate visit. Another two weeks later, still no response from Jeff so I can only conclude that his company has plenty of work and does not need my business (which was for a fairly sizeable project). I was impressed by Jeff's initial candid email about the potential for a long wait but his failure to schedule us for an estimate and his lack of response to my two follow-up emails left me annoyed and motivated me to post a review of my overall bad experience with this company - even though they performed no work for us. UPDATE June 21: Apparently Jeff doesn't keep very good records if he couldn't locate the reply email he sent to my initial inquiry, which I submitted through the Angie's List system, or either of my follow-up emails sent from my private email account. I finally got a response from him after I posted my Angie's List review and he admitted that he did get one of my follow-up emails so his response posting here was apparently a hurried attempt to shirk responsibility for the mess up. In addition, the tone of his post-review emails was pissy and left me with an even lower opinion of how this company handles customer relations.

Classic Stonescaping removed an old, crumbling brick patio and replaced it with a beautiful new flagstone patio. As part of the project, I also had a gas line installed for a grill. Jeff and his crew were extremely accomodating coming early to dig the trench for the gas line and returning as soon as the inspector gave the go-ahead. The removal of the old brick and the installation of the new patio was done in two days. In addition, I had some regrading and releveling done to the side and front of the house. They even weeded my front beds which was an extremely pleasant surprise. Alex, the onsite project lead, was easy to work with and made sure all my questions were answered. Overall it was a great experience, and I now have a wonderful new patio to enjoy.

A big hardscape or landscaping project is a big investment, and you want it done correctly by a company that aren't just skilled master craftsmen, but also thoughtful engineers and designers. We got it all and more with this company. Specifics include: - Superior responsiveness and professionalism from the first contact. One of the first to call from our Angie's List contact, they quickly made an appointment, and Alex listened to all of our needs and expectations. We didn't want just an installer, we really wanted a knowledgeable designer and engineer for this project and that is exactly what we got with Classic Stonescaping and Gardens. - Alex quickly prepared a comprehensive plan for our project, including drawings, and provided a scalable estimate that let us pick from a list of options to let us (and our budget) dictate between "must have", "should have", and "like to have" components of the job. - Once we agreed on a plan, they set a start date and project duration and they stayed EXACTLY on schedule. - During the rip-out phase of the project, they discovered a reinforced concrete slab underneath the wooden deck that they were removing. They immediately dove into the removal of this surprise setback with diamond saws and jackhammers, and quickly removed the slab. Their careful execution of that portion of the project immediately set them apart from other companies, as they fully understood the risk to the existing foundation of the home, and they carefully diamond-sawed the slab to separate it from the house before they began the excavation. The result was zero cracking to the home's foundation, walls, or flooring adjacent to their work. There was an additional charge for this unexpected growth work, of course, but it was reasonable. - The installation of the dry stack walls was masterful, and during the project they recognized that to maximize drainage away from the foundation, they needed to route a nearby gutter downspout through the wall. They dug a trench and installed an extension to the downspout drain so that it exits neatly through the wall. Again, ideal engineering, not part of the original plan, but they recognized the need and made it happen. - We asked them to utilize some of our preexisting flagstones when they rebuilt the sidewalk, which they incorporated seamlessly into the design, saving us money and preventing a wasted resource of perfectly usable stones we already had. - The field stone patio looks great, is perfectly graded to deflect the rain away from the house, and a woodburning firepit completed the installation perfectly. - During their removal of the old materials, the team noted that we had cut up a tree that had recently fallen in our front yard, but I had not yet removed the stump that remained. Since they already had a big roll-off dumpster ordered for the job, they kindly put the stump into their dumpster as well. An unexpected lagniappe that took one more item off of my to-do list! - I will use them on our next hardscape project and will emphatically recommend them to any of our friends and neighbors!

Jeff Jones and his team at Classic Stonescaping provided the best contracting experience we've ever had installing a beautiful patio and fire pit for our home. Better than stonescapers and masons, they are craftsmen. Jeff and his team provided a competitive bid, showed up the day they were scheduled and finished exactly when promised. The workers were courteous and professional and their work was outstanding. We could not be more pleased or provide a higher recommendation.

Jeff and his crew absolutely rocked on this job! We are delighted to highly recommend them. They delivered this job on-time and on-budget and exceeded our expectations! First, I learned it's worth being patient and trusting Jeff's judgment about when to start. We initially encountered some weather delays, either too cold or too wet, since the beginning of the clearing and grading work on our property had to be coordinated with the cutting of sod that needed to be laid within 48 hours. We were all set to go when the last snow of the year hit and we were glad we delayed the final few days. The days right after the snow were perfect conditions since our existing lawn was soft and easy to scrape up for the regrading and the ground was soft enough to make the removal of existing trees and stumps easier than it would have been. The two days of prep time were also enough for the ground at the sod farm to dry enough from the last snow so the sod was cut and laid in nearly perfect conditions. in the first couple weeks after the sod was laid, we got rain every few days, so we only needed to water a couple of times. The lawn is awesome and several friends and neighbors have asked about who we had do the work. As for the rest of the work, the "freeform-shaped" flagstone patio and surrounding new plans transformed the area immediately outside our kitchen door. It looks so good we took the screens off our kitchen windows so we can see the patio area more clearly. The drain lines are moving the water that used to accumulate where the patio is and wash away grass and mulch from the front of the house to help water the back lawn (by pop-up outlets). The river stone under the deck dramatically improved the look of the back deck and seems to be helping reduce the number of bugs near the deck (I believe since the stones aren't holding moisture the way the accumulated leaves and soil under the deck used to.) Lastly, the base under the basketball goal now drains water where it used to accumulate to several inches deep across the driveway. Jeff and his crew were fantastic. They were on-time, courtesy, cleaned up from their work every day, and Jeff or his foreman Alex kept us informed of what was happening and when. Again, we highly recommend them for any landscaping or stonescaping work you need done.

Reached out based on terrific reviews on Angie's List, but unfortunately (for me) all those good reviews means they are busy, busy! Jeffrey Jones, the owner, responded right away, gave me dates for an estimate, but was honest about when he would get to the work (which was too late for me). Appreciate the honesty up front, and based on good reviews will keep them on the list for future estimates.
