+ -1 moreJimmy gave the estimate, and they showed up as scheduled and got the work done as planned. It was a really good experience. It was estimated at 5 hours of work, and that was about right. They brought plenty of fittings and did the job cleanly and professionally. They checked everything, and made it work right.
Description of Work: They re-routed the plumbing drain lines in a pipe chase so we could install a window. It was a pretty complex puzzle, moving the lines from two full baths. I cut open the drywall for them to do the work, and the old lines had to be cut and new lines (4" and 2" PVC) put together. This included the main vent line, too.

They responded promptly to our request, provided a detailed estimate for several services and listed what was covered under the contract, which was helpful. Will strongly consider using them in the future.

+ -1 moreSettled heater for $1000. There were other people in house, so plumber could not really be as belligerent as if alone. Overcharged for basement flood remedy. Never used again, after 12 years of prior customer satisfaction.
Description of Work: Heater failed 2007. Called for estimate while out of town. Chandlers had serviced my heater several times before and had my unit on file in the office. Head office quoted $835. Installed by name, location, and capacity. Wrote the figure down and confirmed with office while on the long-distance line. When installed 2 weeks later, the plumber asked for $1200! UPDATE; 2008. Basement flooded 1 foot and much ruined due to lack of electricity to operate sump pump. Called during normal business hours about emergency, provider knew what was wrong and that I had been serviced from them for years. Sent new associate, who looked askance at homeowner as if he had done something wrong. Homeowner used mild expletive [the structure holding back water to form a reservoir] about destruction from external forces--nothing about the man or any person or thing he should hold dear-- thereupon plumber started to leave immediately with water pouring in without working. Stayed only after homeowner threatened to call head office and ask how was client being unreasonable. Finally started to fix by hosing water to outside and probably overcharged. I have had later work done on the same property and all by other plumbers' companies--even out of state who had lowest estimate for sump pump replacement. Did not bother Chandlers again, would not want to upset the tender ears of so delicate a profession.

+ -1 moreMy call to Chandler's was answered by a live human (unlike several other plumbers I tried). She offered to send someone over that same day. I asked for an appointment a couple days later, and she gave me the first appointment of the day. The plumber arrived promptly. He fixed one source of the leak (which I had shown him) and identified a second potential source--which turned out to be the major source--and fixed that. He was competent, efficient, pleasant, and professional. This was my second experience with Chandler's. I will not hesitate to call them the next time I need a plumber.

+ -1 moreI thought I needed to have a clean out installed on my homes main sewer line. I called several plumbers to get estimates and Chandlers was the only one able to send some one out the same day. Dean arrived right on time. He took a look and said that I already had a main line clean out in place (shows how much I know about plumbing!), but that the cast iron cap had probably not been removed since the home was built in 1960. He said, if I wanted him to, he get the cap off right then and replace it with a plastic cap. It took 45 minutes of considerably hard work on his part to get the original cap off. We had some trouble with our credit card when paying the bill over the phone, so Dean just left the bill and told me to mail a check to the office. I think the price was fair, the company was responsive and professional. I would use the company again.
Description of Work: Remove old cast iron cap on mainline clean out and replace with a new plastic cap.

Six other companys and was told that I would have to pay a fee to have the plumber give me a quote. I was very pleased with all aspects of this companys customer care and found all people to be friendly and professional.I feel like I have finally found a trustworthy plumbing company. And best of all my toilet is working like a new one !!!!
Description of Work: My toilet was not flushing well and I was told by 2 other plumbers that I would need a new one and the cost would be approx $600.00. Chandlers sent out a very polite and knowledgeable man who told me that my toilet was old but would repair to as good as new. He simply removed some calcium deposits from a siphon jet in the bowl and the toilet flushes like new!!!

+ -1 moreThe technicians arrived on time and were professional. They noted the hose problem but said that they couldnt include the humidifier in the maintenance contract until the hose was fixed. The next day, Steve (boss) called back to apologize saying that the humidifier should have been added to the contract. They sent a technician out the following day and per the maintenance contract, I just paid for the part (discounted) and the $25 to add the humidifier to the contract.
Description of Work: Chandlers performed a routine fall furnace check and replaced a hose on the humidifier. The price was for the annual maintenance contract, which includes a fall and spring visit and coverage for the humidifier and the electronic air filter. The hose for the humidifier was replaced.

+ -1 moreThe workman was early, competent, and efficient. We think he did a great job, although now the "water hammer" seems to have moved inside the walls. We may need to have someone back out again. We probably should have done a more thorough check before the repair guy left.
Description of Work: We had "water hammer" where we heard knocking whenever the water pressure was changed (flushing toilet, turning on shower, etc). Chandler Plumbing was the 2nd company wed called in. The repairman secured all the pipes in the basement by cutting wood and using brackets to stop the pipes from moving around.

+ -1 moreThe plumber came and fixed the toilet. While he was writing up the receipt/bill, I noticed the toilet was still leaking. He stopped and he corrected the problem. He then finished writing up the bill. A few days after he left, the leak continued and the toilet continued to flush. Since this was the 2nd time I had Chandler.s come out for the same exact problem on the same exact toilet, I did not call them back. In addition, they are charging people $5 fuel surcharge. I could understand that, but when I was told when they would be out, I was told the plumber would be working in Arlington on 'x' day. Not sure they really should have charged the $5 fuel surcharge.
Description of Work: I live in an old house in Arlington, My toilet was constantly flushing. I have used Chandler's before.

+ -1 moreAfter Chandlers left we noticed that the water pressure was very low and we were having trouble-even getting enough water out of the shower to bath. We called them back and they came out. This was a different person, obviously very annoyed, and said that it must be something else wrong, not something they did. He checked out the problem and finally realized, after my having to show him twice, that the problem was that the first person hadnt turned the water on enough. It took a small adjustment to correct the problem. I didnt have any problem with the work but the attitude was terrible. I finally asked him if he was having a bad day. Im sorry I didnt get his name but I will now think twice about calling Chandlers as I wouldnt want him to come out again.
Description of Work: Replaced the water pressure release valve on the gas water heater.

+ -1 moreThe technician spent about an hour checking the water heater. When he determined that the problem was with a circuit breaker and not the water heater, he explained the problem to me and said that there would be no charge.
Description of Work: I called Chandlers to find out why a water heater that was installed 9 months ago was causing a circuit breaker to pop. They offered to come out the same day, but I suggested the next day between 10 am and 1 pm. The technician arrived at 11:00 am. After checking all of the circuits in the water heater, he determined that the circuit breaker in the electrical panel was weak and not the water heater and should be replaced by an electrician.

Description of Work: We have that poly whatever pipe, the stuff nobody uses anymore, had a class action, plumbers need special tools and fittings, can't get the stuff from Home Depot to do it yourself. I replaced the feeder lines to two toilets. Chandlers fixed my mess.
