+ -1 moreThere was a hole in the ceiling of the dining room where the master bathroom had leaked before when I bought the house. Had another plumber look for a leak and when he could not find one, I had the ceiling fixed. Months later without using the tub, used the tub and the water marks were back. Called Chandler who I use on my personal home and they cut a new hole in the ceiling and could not find the leak either. Had the tenants fill the tub up for several days and suddenly the leak became apparent. The Chandler people came out again and had to cut a hole in the tile surrounding the tub which explained why the leak had never been visible and fixed it. The hole was incredibly neat and no more signs of water. He recommended putting an access panel in the tub for future plumbing access which we did. They are prompt, courteous and knowledgeable. Did not realize they serviced this area or I would have called them first.

I was impressed by Chandler's first off because Lisa, who took my call, was extremely helpful in providing information to this homeowner/plumbing novice! The guys came right on time to do the work, and they definitely seemed to know what they were doing. I thought the job was going to be bigger than it was - I had pulled the toilet myself and thought there was an issue with the flange - but they recommended a less-expensive repair and saved me a lot of money . There was one glitch that I needed to contact them about afterwards, but they took care of it IMMEDIATELY and I was very impressed by the level of customer service provided. I plan to hire them again for any future work I need.

Their estimate was $200-$300 less than 3 other estimates we received. Chandler's showed up promptly, explained exactly what they planned to do and why it was the best approach, and were very professional throughout the process. They completed the work exactly as estimated, with no surprises.

+ -1 moreDid a complete kitchen remodel. I initally used the plumber my contractor works with. After the new kitchen cabinets had been installed it was discovered that all of the necessary plumbing work for the new kitchen design had NOT been completed. Rather than trust the original plumber or contractor I called Chandlers myself. They were able to get someone out the next day to evaluate the situtation and give me an estimate of the cost. They took the time to fully explain what had to be done and why it had to be done. Once I was able to uninstall almost all of the bottom kitchen cabinets, Chandlers was able to quickly schedule a time for the work. The guys arrived on time and were able to complete the work in a couple of hours. This work was done approx 10 months ago and there have been no issues. I am well aware of the fact that there are cheaper plumbers out there However, in my case, my "cheaper" plumber ended up costing me approx $1500 in addtional work (and none of this additional work was plumbing related). From now on I will only use trusted, experienced plumbers and I won't hestiate to use Chandlers in the future.

The plumber showed up on time, did the minimum work necessary (significantly less than I expected) and did it quickly. He also showed me the clog in the shutoff valve so I could see why the flow was slow. He was polite and helpful... Bottom line...they did a great job, had good service and I now feel that I can trust them to not do more than is necessary. I was very pleased.
Description of Work: Chandlers came and fixed a cold water tub handle (replaced) and replaced hot water shutoff valve on my bathroom sink to repair slow flow of hot water.

+ -1 moreBill arrived on time and went to work. He got the job done as requested, and answered some questions regarding potential future remodeling and plumbing work. The faucets don't drip and the shower head was loosened so that I could replace it. The cost was less than I anticipated.
Description of Work: We needed a professional's touch to accomplish some routine maintenance on our 1930's plumbing. Previous remodels in the bathroom made it impossible for me to reach the bathtub's faucets' innards to change the washers and keep the faucets from dripping. I also needed to free up the shower head, which was really frozen in place, so that I could replace it with a new one. Bill came out and did the work.

Not only did Chandlers come out on the 4th to look at the unit, they diagnosed the problem, sourced the parts, and made the repair within 24 hours! Their staff is excellent, skilled, and considerate. We give them our highest recommendation!

+ -1 moreThe plumber arrived on time - very friendly and courteous. He tackled the downstairs bathroom first. I was really pleased that he informed me that the existing shower head was nicer than the replacement I had purchased. He cleaned up and cleared the line quickly - turning my drip, drip shower into a shower that the whole family will fight over to use! Second, he replaced a part in the toilet and explained that it was low-flow (adjusting my expectations). Finally, he replaced the shower head in the upstairs bathroom. He was in and out in half an hour. So impressed and will definitely use again.
Description of Work: I called Chandler's for some small projects in our bathrooms: (1) check the water pressure in the downstairs bathroom; (2) check the toilet (wasn't flushing properly) in the downstairs bathroom; (3) replace the shower head in the downstairs bathroom; and (4) replace the shower head in the upstairs bathroom.

+ -1 moreI bought the largest and biggest fixer-upper on earth 8 years ago and am still working on this project. Since I had done remodeling before, I thought this was no problem and I could tackle room by room as time and budget allowed. One of my problems was the master bath remodel the previous owners had done. Except for not having a wall between the bathrooms and the wrong flow that looked easy to fix, the finish looked expensive with porcelain tiles and fancy shower heads. After moving in, things started happening?.leaking toilets, mold in the shower seat, noises in the soaking tub, creaking hardwood floors, and a few other dubious realizations that things were not as they seemed to be. Thanks to my engineer who worked on other parts of the money pit, I met Jimmy Smith, the owner of Chandlers Plumbing. He knew I was not counting on redoing the entire master bath but thoroughly investigated the problem by opening up a couple of areas, looking in the attic and basement and reviewing the entire space. He itemized the work, made suggestions and gave me a couple of options. He also reduced his customary price for the rough plumbing. A few days later Mauricio and his crew showed up, worked all day into the night and did a fantastic job. They went under the tub and shower stall without breaking the existing expensive tiles, vented the fixtures properly and tied everything from below the house. I was able to salvage the tub and the shower. Highly recommend Chandler?s Plumbing for your most difficult jobs.

+ -1 moreWe are renovating our kitchen, and contaced Chandler's to give us an estimate on relocating the plumbing for our washer and dryer from one side of our kitchen to the other. A service manager arrived right on time and spent a good amount of time answering my questions and giving me information on what they could do for us. He said we should expect to get an estimate within the week. Almost a month later, we still dont have an estimate from Chandlers. I've called their office 3 different times inquiring about the status of the estimate, and spoke to a very nice lady who was very understanding. Unfortunetly, we have run out of time and had to go with another company. I'm sure if I kept calling and pestering them, I could have eventually gotten the estimate. I just ran out of time and energy and didnt feel like working much harder on squeezing one out of them.

+ 0 moreContacted Chandler's on 5/15/12 to make appointment. Appointment was scheduled for 5/16/12 from 10 - 2. Tech arrived on time, checked problem and set right to work. But after using up entire length of snake he was unable to clear drain. Turns out only one of their trucks has the equipment necessary to do long drains. So they had to schedule another tech for 9 AM on 5/17/12. Not very convenient for me. Tech arrived on time, checked problem and set to work. He was able to open drain. Only negative I have is with the bill. Hourly rate charged seems excessive and hourly rate was not stated at time of appointment or by techs. Then I was also charged a "kitchen machine charge" which I guess is for the drain opener. I was told there was a discount greater than the Angie's list coupon but it is not shown on the bill so I cannot confirm this. Given the hourly rate charged I am skeptical. There is also a "zone" charge which was also not explained at the time of appointment. Given that my address was given at that time the zone charge should have been stated. I marked Yes in the box would I recommend this company there should be a "maybe" category. They do good work but the charges should be clearly explained at appointment time. Especially the zone charge. Nor was it my fault that only one of their trucks has a long enough drain cleaner. So I only recommend Chandler's for customers who would not incur a zone charge. My mistake was in not checking Washington Consumer Checkbook to compare the rating and reviews there compared to Angie's List. Had I done so I would have found that Chandler's was not check rated for quality or price which matches my experience with them.

From initial phone call and scheduling, you feel as if you're talking with someone who can help you get your problem solved. They really try and help narrow down service times, too, rather than just giving you a day where they could come anytime during that day. Excellent service. Prices are a little high, but probably competitive for the DC area. I'd rather pay just a little more for quality service rather than having to pay twice for a job that should be done with one service call.
Description of Work: We've had Chandler's Plumbing out for a couple of different plumbing service calls for jobs in the kitchen and they have consistently been outstanding with their customer service and punctual and very professional. We had them out to install a garbage disposal for one call and then again to install a water line to service the new freezer, which has an automatic ice maker. The company who sold us the freezer was supposed to hook up the water to the freezer, but did not preform their tasks as required and we were left having to call Chandler's again and spend more money having the water hose hooked up to the ice maker. Most recently, Chandler's came out yesterday to look at the dishwasher that has not been working and although it seems to be a mechanical issue and not a plumbing issue, Chandler's was great with everything from scheduling, customer service and professionalism. We really appreciate Chandler's work and now that we've recently purchased a house, we plan to only use them from now on.

+ 0 moreHe showed up a 1/2 hour late for the estimate, he did apologize multiple times and it wasn't a big deal with me (anyone who shows up within an hour of when they say they will in DC is OK in my book). Waiting a week for the estimate did tick me off a bit, but once I saw the price I just laughed and knew I was doing the job myself. Easier to take a weeks vacation than pay $17,000.
Description of Work: Based on the Angie's List reviews I contacted Chandler's Plumbing for an estimate on my 5 x 7 bathroom. I was very excited that they even returned my call. Out of 10 contractors I called only 3 returned my call for an estimate. The work I wanted to have done was split into 2 different estimates 1. replumb the shower, move the drain to a center drain, and move a toilet roughly 2 feet. The 2nd was to allow them to do the entire bathroom for a full remodel, I was purchasing all the finished materials and shower valves - they would handle the rest. Overall they were very professional and friendly during the estimate. He made it seem like an easy enough job and said all the right things to make me confident he could do the job. I let him know upfront the reason for the 2 estimates was because I am planning to do most of the work myself (I just don't trust myself with plumbing) but if his price was reasonable I'd hire him to do everything. He said not a problem and this was a pretty straight forward job. Very open and easy to communicate with. It took a week for the estimate to come through. First for my disclaimer.... this is the first time I've ever contacted contractors to do work on my Condo. I had no prior experience on what the costs are to do any sort of work, I normally do the work myself. My real world job is government contracting so I applied the same rules for how we bid the government to contractors....After getting his estimate I decided I'm in the wrong business! I just don't understand how they come to their final totals. To do just the plumbing, move the drain and toilet was $3,700.00 (the most expensive of the 3 quotes). To redo the entire bathroom (keep in mind I'm purchasing all fixtures and surface materials and valves) was $17,000. I was floored by both prices (maybe I shouldn't be? I just don't know). I did not call them back, I viewed the prices as inflated based on the work being performed.

+ 1 moreThe main reason that I use them for my air condition and the heat is because they come out the same day which is very important to me. They seem to be very honest and when the air conditioner went out last summer, they did not come out and tell me I needed a new air conditioner. They did some tests and determined that there was some little part that needed to be replaced. They seem to be honest and ineffable. I had a friend come over and he thought that the fan had gone out and this had gone out and that had gone out, but it turned out that it was a little sensor device that determines when to turn things on and off and that had gone. There was a labor cost to diagnose it and a labor cost to replace that little part and it ended up being several hundred dollars, but certainly less than if they had done all those others things that were potentially wrong. They seem to do their job and whatever job they do, they fix it the first time and they don't have to come back. They come out the same day. I first had them come out for air conditioning and heat and then I had a problem where I had a leak in the kitchen. It was a Sunday night so I called and left a message on their answering machine because I remembered that they also had plumbing in their name and they came out first thing the next morning and fixed my kitchen.
Description of Work: I used Chandler's Plumbing & Heating Co Inc as I had a backup in my basement and they had to snake out my sewer drain. They have worked on my air conditioner, my furnace and kitchen pipes.
