Martin Allen did a great job. He replaced about 25 cracked or broken bricks on our front stoop and our patio behind the house. The bricks he installed match the older bricks very well and his masonry work was quite professional.

Mr. Allen came out right away to look at my house and see what work needed to be done. He called with an estimate the next day, and completed the work within a day after that. The work needed was at top of a house, underneath and behind gutter pipes - located at third story from base. We had a lot of rain after his work, and I no longer have rain coming into the house. I called another local mason who had many high ratings but the other mason would not do the job because of height location. The new cement is darker than other cement on house, but its not noticable as it is high near gutter line. That color might lighten up too. Overall, I'm grateful to Mr. Allen for speed and competence.

Mairtin came to my house promptly after I called for an estimate on the work. I was given a date he was available and he arrived on schedule and on time. The work performed was exceptionally done and even provided additional work that I had not previously ask for. It looks better than the original brickwork! Highly recommended!

Allen did great work for a great price. Some personal events pushed our schedule back, but he kept me informed of his plans, which is all I ask. The wait was worth it. He repaired what I needed and has a great personality. I would hire him again in an instant.

Excellent work, took about a day and a half plus acid-washing the repaired areas a few days later. There were several weeks from when I accepted Mairten's bid to the time the work was done, I understood this would be the case, as he is very busy and winter weather got in the way. He kept in occasional touch with me in the meantime so that I would know I was still on his schedule. He works on both brick and flagstone, which made getting both types of repair done as a single job.

Mairtin is a Stone artist. The job was to reface a brick fireplace with stone veneer and install an owner provided reclaimed wood mantel. Before choosing Mairtin, I interviewed a number of other local area Masons. What impressed me about Mairtin was his knowledge of masonry, his creative ideas for making the best out of the stone veneer, and his low pressure sales tactics. He was very professional and provided a proposal that was well within our budgeted plan. When he arrived to perform the work, he quickly tackled the project and you could see his skill and artistry immediately. He made our stone fireplace look fantastic. I would highly recommend him to anyone who is looking for a fine stone mason who will do whatever it takes to get the job right and to meet or exceed the owners expectations.

Extremely well. The response was timely and the work was thoroughly professional. When the job was complete my porch was in "like new" condition and the site cleanup was thorough. This was the second time I have engaged this firm's services and they would be my first call on a requirement in the future.

It went great. Rather than simply patch/repair the stones that had come loose, all the stones on our two front steps were removed, as was the old mortar. Everything was cleaned up and the stones were reinstalled on a clean slate with fresh mortar. While he was there, he looked over the rest of the porch, and our front facade that is stone and brick, and let me know that it looked like good work that was holding up very well (18 year old house). I would definitely recommend his work and have already passed his name on to a couple people.

The price was reasonable and the work was exceptional. A lot of the bricks needed to be replaced and the work was done so well. It was a 3-4 day job, which is how long they told us it would be. A neighbor even walked past a couple days later and asked which bricks he had replaced. The cleanup, bricks and workmanship was great and I have referred him to neighbors as well.
Description of Work: That turned out absolutely wonderful. We have a 40 year old brick town house; the brick and mortar is 40 years old.

It went very well. I plan to use his services again. They were very prompt. The guy was professional and they cleaned up after themselves. He definitely did good work. It was a bit of a challenge because we had an older front stoop and to get the mortar to even come close to matching what had weathered for over 25 years was a bit of a challenge. He was able to match it pretty darn well.

The provider was quick to respond to my request for an estimate and went through in detail the repairs that would be required and how they would be done. He was exceptionally professional and courteous through the entire process, estimate to completion. My front porch is now in pristine condition and the price was entirely satisfactory. This provider was exceptionally professional and a skilled artisan. Most highly recommended.

Mr Martin was a pleasure to work with. I explained my time line and he accommodated me perfectly.
Description of Work: I needed brick point work since we were replacing windows. Mr Martin gave me his price for the areas I pointed out to him and then he walked around the whole house pointing out many more cracks which he fixed without changing his price. He was timely and very professional and I would definitely recommend him to others and use him again myself.

Martin contacted me within one day of my e-mail and came by a day after that to provide an estimate. Removal and replacement of one sidewalk panel was scheduled about two weeks after contact as there was no immediacy to the work needed. Entire job was completed in one day. All debris from removal of the old section was removed by Martin. Quick, efficient, and the final result looks great.

We had an old concrete walk and two wooden steps removed and a new wide flagstone walk over concrete and two nice wide and deep steps installed. We did have a few hidden issues and changes to the job that pushed the original estimate up. We had a lower estimate from someone else but it didn't include concrete or steps. We are pleased with the work and enjoyed working with Martin. Overall, I gave an A rating. Martin does all his own work (although has a helper) from estimates to the masonry work so he isn't going to respond as fast as some others. But we didn't have a problem and knew he'd get back as quick as he could. We would recommend him and use him again in the future. I am rewriting this review since someone from Angie's List took the info. over the phone and it lacked detail.

Martin showed up in a timely fashion and provided my GC an estimate on the spot. Unfortunately, the estimate was a bit high (but not outrageously so) and his schedule did not permit quick start of the project. If the schedule could have worked, I expect we could have come to terms on price as well. I will likely contact him again for future work, which I expect I will have - but we could not come together on this one. I wish him well.

He did a great job each time, which is why I kept calling him back. The exterior stone work was more routine, but it was well done and has passed the test of the past five years. The outdoor grill/fire area looks much better than it did before the tree damage because he fixed a lot of loose stones in the old structure and made some other improvements. When I thought one aspect of the fireplace didn’t look as it had before, he came back to make it look better. The kitchen floor was his most important and difficult job. I hoped it just needed re-tiling when we discovered damage from a longstanding leaky fridge water line. When Marty took the tile up up, we realized the leak had caused several layers of older plywood flooring to rot and grow mold. If I had to get someone else to do that floor work separately, it would have been a big headache and extra disruption (and who wants weeks of exposed, powerfully moldy kitchen flooring for that time?). So Marty took up layer after layer of plywood put down over the years in a larger area than we expected; it became a much bigger job than anticipated, but he stuck with it. He even missed some time with his brother visiting from Ireland to get the job done over several days. He then had to rebuild the floor level (one part was three inches lower than the rest) and re-tile about a third of the kitchen. He had to re-use most of the old tile since we only had about 10 spares. His tile and grout job was great, and he also took care of the wood trim. He cleaned up the work area as best he could each day, and when he was done, he hauled away a pile of rotten flooring and broken tiles outside. When we first discovered the rotten and moldy layers of plywood, I had pleaded with him to handle the extra floor work himself and only asked that he name a fair price when he was done. He could have asked for a lot more for the extra work (which was unclear for a few days), but he didn’t ask as much as I thought he could under the circumstances, especially for so many days of hard, sweaty work. I gave him an extra tip instead.
Description of Work: Marty Allen performed four jobs over about 5 years, the last two in late 2012 and summer of 2013. Marty Allan repaired some stone on our house exterior when we had gutter work in 2009; he rebuilt part of a wall of our home; he repaired an outdoor stone grill and sitting area damaged when a tree fell in 2012; and he did some extensive work in 2013 on our kitchen tile floor and the underlying sub-floor that was rotten because of a leaky fridge.
