Winston's Chimney Service

Well done, professional and on time.

Their prices were good. They did a good job. They were very punctual.

They gave us an appointment quickly. They showed the video to the person we had working with them at the house. However, they also promised to email us Wednesday with the video they had taken. It is now Saturday and we still do not have it. I understand that there are others on Angie's List who have had similar problems with this company. They seemed to do a nice job with the performance of the work. But I expect companies to keep their promises, too.

on time, very careful to not dirty our new off-white carpeting, worked effectively and efficiently, courteous, and thorough. The management worked with me on the front end and kept their integrity.

We wanted to use him but he was astronomically expensive. He would not guarantee his work. He made it impossible for me to file aninsurance claim for the work that needed to be done. It was when we had the earthquake, my chimney shook, the chimney was damaged and all the things on my China cabinet were knocked off and on the floor and so they broke. He said it couldn't have been the earthquake. So he told that to the insurance company. He came right out.

Initially they did not install it correctly and then they did it right. Other than this, everything was fine.

I asked a number of companies to provide an estimate for rebuilding of my chimney and installation of a direct vent fireplace insert. Technicians from Winston's Chimney Service arrived promptly and were very professional. I felt confident in their ability to provide an accurate estimate and the confidence they inspired led me to believe that if they were to do work on my house, it would probably be high quality. After the technicians had taken measurements and surveyed the situation I was told that I'd get an email within about a week with an estimate for repair work as well as a couple of ideas about what to do as far as installation of a fireplace insert. Over a week went by without an email, so I called Winston's. A friendly employee took a look at my file and said something like "there's a note on here that your fireplace is likely too small for us to work with". The employee apologized that no one had contacted me and said he'd escalate the situation and have someone call me back with a definitive answer. A month has passed since my initial appointment. I don't have time to chase down a company that doesn't seem to want my business, so I've taken it elsewhere.

Winston's came out to do a chimney inspection and sweep. Our fireplaces are in good condition, we maintain them well and keep them clean. There were no issues with the fireplace when we called Winstons for a routine inspection and cleaning. It was the second time we used them in the past 5 years. They did a sweep and said that the chimney was in good shape. I asked the tech about putting in a damper on the roof because I had read that they were more energy efficient. He took out one of the sections of our iron damper to show me how there are several flaps on that kind of damper (our house was built in the 70's) and then put it back. I asked him if the damper was open or closed, he said open and that was it. , He quoted me a price for the newer damper but said that my current dampers worked fine We paid for the cleaning and inspection. The first time we used the fireplace the entire house filled with smoke. The damper was fully open but the entire house filled with smoke, the fire alarms went off for more than 25 minutes everywhere in the house. (on both levels) it was frightening. I called Winstons to ask them to come out and see what happened, and let us know what was wrong. They told me the technician who did the work would call me but he never did. I called back a week later and again was told that the technician who did the work would have to call me back. He never did. From the time they worked on the fireplace to the time we had the smoke, no one but Winstons had touched the fireplace. I was very disappointed that they were so unresponsive. We called another company, they came out and said that the damper had been put back incorrectly. (I did not tell this other company we had had a problem with Winston's because I wanted to see what they said. We hired them to do work and they were excellent, clean and responsive. I would never hire Winstons again and I would not recommend them because they did not respond when called.

Fantastic team. They arrived on time, took pictures of everything, and did a great job. When, a few days later, a problem arose (water running down the chimney), they came back and confirmed what was going on. Very happy, will use them on the next inspection. (I may be slightly off on the price--I can't find the receipt.)

I have an old row home in dc. The chimney was closed up and I have been wanting to get it open and see if I could make it a wood burning fireplace again. they came and opened and it ran a camera up and they also inspected in from the roof and my basement where the furnace connects. Un fortunately because of the furnace venting the way it does a woodburning fireplace was impossible. they did find out though that m chimney was never lined and that was a huge hazard because it was eating away at my chimney and nothing was preventing the gas fumes from going through the masonry into my house. expensive find but I am grateful to them.

Excellent service. They showed me the scans, explained the findings and the basis for their recommendations. Discussed safety issues.

The service went very well. We have had no problem with the chimney since they were out. Three technicians came out and completed the job in a bout 3 hours. They were knowledgeable in their field and made a great assessment on the problem we had. They were very easy to work with. I had no problem scheduling the service and they arrived on time.

The Provider was professional all the way. They arrived on time and exercised great care to protect the wood stove area from damage from their cleaning activities. They were nice people and pleasant to be around. They did a very thorough inspection of the boiler chimney. They showed me with pictures they took what potential repairs were needed this Spring and the cost. I would hire them again! They have been working on our property for many years and it's only recently we became Angie's List Members.

They rebuilt a chimney. They did a good job and their prices were much more lower that anyone else.

My experience with Winston's was extremely positive. My primary point of contact was very courteous, patient, collaborative, and willing to answer all of my questions prior to my decision to hire them for the project. When the day arrived to install the new enclosure they were both friendly and highly professional in every way. They showed up at the scheduled time and worked diligently to install the new enclosure and fan. The quality of the work is very high. I will use them again for my future chimney needs and I will not hesitate to recommend them to others.

Dejuan and Reggie arrived within the time frame specified. They put down tarps to protect the carpet -- both in the foyer leading to the fireplace and the living room in front of the fireplace. They were careful and tidy. Reggie noticed that I had cats and alerted me to the fact that they need to leave the door propped open a bit for a hose to pass in to the house. I appreciated him noticing and calling it to my attention. I have had contractors leave the door open even after I pointed out to them that I had cats that needed to stay inside -- so it was nice to have them alerting me of the risk. Reggie pointed out to me some of the buildup in my chimney and let me know that I could reduce that by making sure that my wood was dry and well cured. They inspected my chimney and pointed out a recommended repair -- but there was no push to do the work today or soon. Just more informative -- I appreciated the no pressure approach. I recommend them and would use them again.

I did not use them. Even with a discount for both services and the Angie's list discount it was $389 for both! The dryer vent clean alone was $130 (discounted) to clean 7' of vent! It also took them two days to contact me after I requested an appointment through their website. On the positive side, they were able to accommodate a Saturday schedule, but that's not worth this price which is nearly double any one else's. I asked why so high and the woman (who was very pleasant) explained that all their workers are certified and that they do weekly training whereas their competitors may not.

I have my chimney inspected annually, since I have a wood stove and regularly heat my home with it. I made an appointment with Winston's, and Fernando showed up on time. He was very professional. He looked at the chimney and said it needed to be swept, so he and his partner cleaned it out. They were thorough, and Fernando showed me the black gunk that they scraped off. They had put down drop cloths around the living area, and cleaned up thoroughly. Fernando then showed me a photo of my chimney crown, which was cracked in more than one place. He proposed replacing the crown and also waterproofing the chimney. I agreed to do it, although I hesitated over whether to waterproof--I had never heard of doing that before, but I found a few recommendations for doing it when I researched online. So, I made an appointment for crown replacement--a cast crown--and waterproofing. Again, the job was done on time, I was shown a photo of the new crown, and everything was handled professionally. I liked that Fernando showed me photos so I could see what was going on without having to go up on the roof to see it (although I suppose they could have been fake photos, I actually doubt that). The Winston's staff were all professional and a pleasure to work with. I would call them again.

We've used these guys for a number of years and have always been pleased with their work.

I am living out of state, do I have not inspected. My tenant says it looks great.

It went well, they installed the chimney and have done a great job maintaining.

Selected Winston's from a pool of three estimates. One was astronomically high with too much work "needed," another was almost the same as Winston's, but I chose Winston's because I felt questions were better answered. Showed up on time, did a fast, neat job. Subsequent application of waterproofing appears okay. (It's invisible, so who knows? Worker hooked up and used my hose to wet down the chimney prior to application, rather than use his, resulting in some damage to hose nozzle. Winston's offered a more-than-fair adjustment to the final bill to compensate for a new nozzle and my time and trouble.

Came promptly, inspected chimneys, explained the issues thoroughly with pictures, gave me an estimate and once I approved immediately set to work to remove old mortar and prep chimneys. Returned as scheduled, to the minute, the next day and quicly completed the work. Provided me withafter pictures. Nicest, most polite technicians ever!

They were terrific. They were prompt, professional and courteous. They showed up when they were supposed to. They seemed very knowledgeable. They were really nice about explaining what needed to be done and they made sure everything was clear. They showed us photos. They did everything they said they were going to do. The guy was very honest and he wasn't sure if it was going to fix the leak or not. He thought it might be the culprit but he wasn't 100 percent sure but it seems like it has. They were really good and I would definitely go back to them. They were in my general vicinity. The person that answered the phone was very good and very professional. They scheduled my appointment right away and they followed up with an email to verify. The communication was great. They were really good from start to finish.
