Winston's Chimney Service

I dinged my review of Winstons for their punctuality, but overall they were fantastic and I cannot recommend them enough. For whatever reason they were consistently late to all 3 services. They provide a 2 hour window for their arrival time and were always at least 30 minutes later than that, sometimes they did call when they were on their way, but each time we were wondering if they were not going to show up. Regardless of this, once they arrived we were very pleased with their staff from the initial consultation and estimate, which they provided free of charge. It was clear their staff are experts in chimney repair. We selected Winstons because of their competitive price and overall impression of their staff. We were not disappointed. Once they got to work both removing the iron stove and retrofitting the chimney we were always pleased. Their staff is courteous and communicated everything clearly. They also did an amazing job cleaning up after the work was completed; I could hardly tell they were there. We have already recommended them to some neighbors and plan to use them annually for service. My only slight complaint was the person I booked the work with initally was not willing to extend the advertised Angie's List discount. Due to this we almost considered another vendor. Thankfully that person checked with a manager and called me back and extended the advertised discount.

Team of 3 workers arrived on time. I was very happy with the work and especially that they worked efficiently and did not leave a mess. After the cleaning, an inspection of the entire chimney was performed and results were shown to me. There was no pressure from the inspector for me to purchase anything or do any further work even though a slight problem witht the chimney cap was pointed out to me. Overall very happy with the worked performed and because of the "Big Deal" I got a great price for the work.

I hired them to inspect and clean my chimney, and install a chimney cap. They sent me an email ahead of time reminding me of the appointment, and on the scheduled day called to confirm arrival time. They were a little late due to traffic, and very apologetic about it. Lenny was the main person doing the talking, and he was very professional and friendly. They put down a tarp in front of my fireplace to keep things clean, and Lenny looked inside the fireplace. They then they got up on the roof, inspected the chimney flue and chimney structure, and installed the chimney cap. Due to the mild winter last year, they said there was little creosote in the flue and I didn't need to have the chimney swept. They recommended that I have work done on the top of the chimney because there were cracks there, and they showed me photos of the cracks so I could see what was going on. When I asked what exactly needed to be done, Lenny explained in detail the repair that needed to be done. The service was professional and efficient. They answered all my questions and didn't try to do services I didn't need. I plan to call them for service in the future.

We were moving, so we wanted to make sure the chimney was clean and up to code. I saw that this company had a coupon on Angies List and they were able to schedule us in on a very short notice. The receptionist was able to double-check the availabilities of the technicians and get back to me by the end of that business day. The technicians came at the appointed time. They left both the chimney and the room clean. They were very professional.

We requested a quote for chimney repair. The person on the phone was very nice and professional and was able to schedule someone to come out to our home within a few days of calling. We left a lockbox on our basement door so the technician could see the inside and outside of our chimney, we were not home. Nothing was left out of place and the door was relocked with the key back in the lockbox. I received the proposal the following day. We did not end up using this company because their price was higher than the company we ultimately ended up using. I would however continue to suggest them to other homeowners.

Our overall experience with them was excellent. I thought their price was high. They were professional, punctual, and responsive. They did a pretty good job.

It went fine and we were satisfied with their work.

Excellent job. Chimney doesn't look repaired, and left the area clean. Came when scheduled, even though it was cold. Very neat and honest.

I have not done the job yet but based on their thoroughness I am leaning towards Winston. They were pretty quick.

Winstons inspected two fireplaces and chimneys, determined they did not require cleaning at this time, and suggested a few ways I could make them more efficient. Rob was extremely professional and showed up within the window the company provided. The company also sent me an email reminder a few days before the appointment. I can't really speak to quality of their repairs since for this job they only inspected, but I'm having them do an estimate for another property at which another company claimed extensive chimney repairs were needed.

We did have to reschedule our service date due to another job running over, but I was very impressed with the proactive nature of their response. They called us before our appointment as expained the issue. They worked with us to find a new time that worked for us and offered an additoinal discount on price for our trouble. Very good customer service. On rescheduled date, arrived promptly and did a great job.

He spread tarps before bringing in the equipment to clean my chimney. Performed the work quietly and without disrupting us. He answered all my questions about chimneys, wood stoves, etc. Provided very good service. Will call them again.

They did it all in one day. They came in right where they estimated it to be. They were quick courteous and professional. They were just good people.

It all went well. We will use them again.

I am always very happy with them. The young mean are very nice and neat. They clean up after themselves. I've always been pleased with them for 10yrs.

I can't recommend Winston's highly enough. We've been building a house, and, over the course of the last 6 months, have dealt with many contractors. Our experiences have generally been good, but Winston's really stands out. Charles is clearly very passionate about his work, and is something of perfectionist. Exactly what I want in a contractor. Prior to the installation, he thoroughly researched the european woodstove we'd asked him to install, and even contacted the company to ensure he had all of the necessary technical documents. He and his crew were on time, responsbile, friendly and hard-working. When they encountered problems, they dealt with them effectively and in a timely manner. When we needed them to change an aspect of the installation, they did so immediately and without complaint. Moreover, Charles has been incredibly generous with his time in helping our builder amend our permit to allow for the stove. All around amazing experience!

This company charges $109 just to come out for a visual inspection, and does not apply any of this fee to the cost of having work done, despite how this is represented on Angie's list. Despite their professionalism, we did not have them do any work due to cost.

Winston's first did an Level 1 inspection and provided clear information (including photos) about our chimney's condition and needed repairs. The chimney is 55+ years old and the original clay flue tiles and the crown had deteriorated. The technician was thorough and courteous and was really great about answering my questions. He provided options and a recommendation regarding repair. The estimate was lower than another highly-rated Angie's List company. The repairs were done on time and the site was left very tidy. They showed me the progress of the project before repairing the wall in the utility room where the furnace and water heater exhaust hooked into the new liner. The took photos of the completed work on the chimney, which they sent to me later via e-mail.

Very well - showed up on time, worked through a rainstorm, cleaned up after. Very pleased with the service.

Work went smoothly and efficiently from start to finish. Minimum of noise and disturbance throughout the entire two-day process.

I had another company that was set to come out (4) times and kept breaking the appointment. Winston sent out 2 young men that came out and cleaned behind my wood stove, as well. They cleaned out my chimney and did a good job.

Scheduling took a long time, however I wanted to make sure I had a F.I.R.E. certified technician & there aren't many around. Just purchased a home and the inspector recommended we have a thorough inspection, which verified the cracks he observed in one of the fireboxes. Took another few weeks before I could schedule to have the cracks filled, mostly because my work schedule was tight when they were available. When they came out, the technician did a very sloppy job, left patching concrete on the marble exterior of the fireplace. As it took less than 30 minutes, we were also wondering why it took so long to schedule. I complained politely about the ruined aesthetics of the fireplace and the service manager came by the house immediately & fixed everything himself, by hand. Based on that alone, they redeemed themselves in my opinion, it was exceptional work to get customer satisfaction & make sure the job was done right. But, unfortunately there was that initial sloppy job.

It all went very smoothly and efficiently. It was especially helpful to have the photos - before and after - since we cannot get up to the top of the chimney ourselves. The office staff was responsive and there was a follow up e-mail to make sure we were happy with their work. We were very pleased with their service and highly recommend them.

Everyone we dealt with at Winston's was professional, courteous and prompt. And though I have no doubt that they provide excellent, quality service, their bid was a full $1400 over the company we eventually chose, Priddy Clean. Winston's estimate was over $3,500 for the same exact work that Priddy Clean completed for just $2,100.
