The work went very well. The cleaning of the finished project site should have been done more professionally.

they cut two wires that control the furnance without reconnecting them. It took 6 or 7 calls to the Griffith Oil to come out and find the problem and repair their damage! That was a long cold night for my disgruntled tenant and her three children. Very inconvient, especially since my tenant had asked them to test it, and they refused!

Showed up on time for estimate and work. Explained clearly, cleaned up thoroughly.

The service was fine but we didn't got the work done. They were very responsive in coming out in giving an estimate and they showed up on time.

Incredibly professional crew. Clearly knew what they were doing. And performed the work professional and with quickly. Showed up on time. A pleasure to work with. But they are incredibly expensive compared to other providers. I'd use them again if I had a repair - I'd trust they'd get it right the first time. But I wouldn't call them out for something small.

The provider arrived on time. There were two workers. They introduced themselves and got to work. They were very tidy and worked quickly, letting me know along the way what they were doing. The same occurred with the dryer vent cleaning. When they left no one could see that they had ever been here. They left a detailed receipt, which I signed, and they thanked me.

*UPDATE* More than a month after I sent Winston's a message (see earlier review below), Kenny finally got in touch with me. He was straightforward and took responsibility for not replying to me. I found this encouraging -- his willingness to be direct made me very well disposed towards Winston's. I arranged for them to come out and give me an estimate for repairs. Unfortunately, the team who came to my house was unprofessional to the point of recklessness. It would take too long to go through all of the instances which concerned me, but they included one member of the team standing on the sidewalk in front of my house throwing a screwdriver up towards the facade and windows of my house in order to get it to his partner on the roof, as well as refusing to explain the extent of the work they thought was necessary when I asked them to do so. With this level of unprofessionalism, I was surprised to receive an estimate that was approximately $1200 higher than the next highest estimate from a well-rated provider on Angie's list. On Sept 21, I sent the following message to Winston's and one other chimney repair service: "I'd like to get an estimate for some work that needs to be done on my chimney. Do you charge for estimates?" Since then, the other repair service has responded to my message, come out to the house, and completed an estimate. It has been more than three weeks, and I have not heard one thing from Winston's. I guess they don't need my business, but sending me some sort of response would have been polite.

They were great. My husband dealt with them. We like that they were very thorough, friendly, and professional.

The crew came on time. They were professional and they cleaned up nicely after themselves. The repair was done well.

Individuals inspected and cleaned both chimneys. Found that the cap needed to be resealed and gave a very reasonable quote. Additional work was completed a few days later. Very professional, very reasonable, and I would use them again.

Excellent responsiveness and scheduling, followed by crew that had all equipment, worked hard and did quality job. Probably could have found a little lower price, but the quality of work was well worth what was done. Rescheduled timing due to better weather window -- great flexibility. Communication with office excellent along with post project follow-up checking of chimney work.

We had Winston's out for our annual chimney cleaning and while they were here, we were told that our three chimneys would need to be relined at a cost of 10-12K. Since this was a steep cost we'd be facing, we asked another vendor to come out to give a second opinion. While the second vendor was here, he took a look at the chimneys and mentioned that one of them looked as though it had hardly been touched (it's the one we use the most and he mentioned that it seemed as though they used only a soft brush when a hard one would be needed). Because we don't know the ins and outs of how chimneys are cleaned, we listened to what the second vendor said but still gave Winston's the benefit of the doubt...until we saw the pile of creosote they cleaned out of the chimney. We had just spent $500 only to realize that the thing we needed them to do thoroughly wasn't done and could have posed a real risk to us. We're left feeling slightly duped - we have to trust our vendors to be thorough in their services - especially one as important as this.

Our house is an old Victorian, built in the 1880's. We bought it recently and are slowly getting all of our house "issues" fixed -- and when we made it around to the chimney, we called Winston's. The estimate was fair, and they were able to schedule the work quickly. The team (Rob and Adam) arrived on time, and they did an excellent job. The team was very careful about protecting our new metal roof from scratches during the installation of the damper and they put down drop cloths to protect the floors during the inside work. The newly repointed firebox looks great! And the lock-top damper (which replaced an old, mostly non-functional one) is easy to use and energy efficient. We would recommend this company without reservation. I'd used the company several years before on a different house in VA -- that time, they completely rebuilt the chimney. They pulled two flues through, repointed the inside of the fire box, installed new clean-out doors inside and out, and repointed the outside -- the work was major and the quality of the repair was excellent. Rob was also part of the team that did that series of jobs. I really appreciated his attention to detail, and four years later the chimney/fireplace still looks and works great. We'll eventually install a heat shield in the chimney in our Victorian house (soon to be called home!), and we'll call Winston's when we're ready to move forward. Thanks, Winston's! Two person crew protected the surrounding area and cleaned the chimney as expected. The crew was friendly and inspected for any issues, none were noted. I would definitely recommend them and the price was great through Angie's List

I have used Winston's Chimney Service before and received an e-mail notice for reduced-price inspection and cleaning during August. Making the appointment was easy. I called on Monday and got a Wednesday appointment (maybe because it is August---still the off season for chimneys). Service tech Lenny Whitfield and a colleague arrived within the appointed window time and got right to work. They laid down a tarp in front of my stove and were careful not to get soot on anything nearby. They cleaned and inspected the stove and got up on the roof to check the chimney pipe and clean out from the top. After Lenny inspected the chimney, he advised me that the build-up was moderate, and that if I wasn't going to use the stove heavily this season I could probably wait to have it cleaned. I appreciated this advice, because it would save me money; however, I elected to have them do the cleaning anyway, as I like to be on the safe side. The entire inspection, cleaning, and wrap-up took only about 45 minutes. Lenny found that the stove's thermoceramic baffle had a hold in it and asked to see the stove's manual to determine if the hole was supposed to be there. A check of the manual confirmed that the baffle should not have a hole, and I will now contact my stove dealer for a replacement part. I really appreciate Lenny's thoroughness. Overall, Lenny and his colleague (sorry, I forgot his name) were friendly, professional, and a pleasure to deal with.

Had roofer (different company) reseal around pipe/roof junction. It appeared from the ground top of pipe was rusted so called Winston Chimney Service. Very disappointed in quality of work and lack of customer service. Service tech installed new cap on rusty pipe. Both the owner and GM thought it was okay to install new over rot. Vent pipe still leaks which is what I requested they repair. Will search for another provide. Would not recommend these folks for any service.

They did a good job. The guys that came out were excellent. They were clean, thorough, and friendly.

This provider was professional in every way. The first day about half the job was completed before the rain started. They covered the open chimney with a tarp and left, advising me they were going. Later that afternoon we noticed a small amount of water in the fireplace. I called the office and they had the team come back with a new tarp and used it to cover the chimney. No problem after that. The next day they finished the job and it looks great. They cleaned everything up and left. Their price was less then half the estimate we got from another chimney repair service provider. We highly recommend Winston's Chimney Service.

Winston's Chimney Service was efficient and clean. They did a good job.

Unfortunately, chimney cleaners are always suggesting a liner when it's not needed.
