They told me they couldn't get parts from manufacturer and that my generator was essentially useless. I contacted the manufacturer and the part was shipped that day. Where they lying or incompetent? Either way, avoid this place.

They promised to have it done in less than two weeks. They completed the servicing and some additional repair work in three days. The mower runs like it was new.

At the end of October Virginia Outdoor Power Equipment picked up a riding lawnmower and charged $70 for pickup. They were asked to check out the engine which stalls out after a few minutes of running. After several weeks, I called to see where they were with the repair. They came back with a proposal to do all kind of welding and repair work on the mower blade housing which has some damage on the front end. Two years ago it hit a stump and the blade cut the front skirt of the housing. It’s been running just fine for two years after I bent the damaged spot out of the blade path. The blade is not exposed at any point. Virginia Outdoor Power Equipment wanted over $1,000 to repair the blade housing before they would even look at the engine. I told them to ignore the blade housing as that was not the problem. They removed the blade housing, including taking the drive belt off the main pulley in the rear, left it out in the rain, and couldn’t find anything wrong with the engine. The blade housing is designed to be removed from the front, not the rear. They then returned the disassembled mower and lost the spring that connects the links between the blade drive assembly and the main pulley. When I told them the part was missing they sent a spring, but it was not the correct spring. They then ordered a spring from Briggs and Stratton but they ordered the wrong spring. I cannot reassemble the mower because I don’t know how they removed the drive belt from the pulley, and I cannot reconnect the linkage anyway because they lost the spring. They refuse to reassemble the mower to the condition it was in when they picked it up. They claim it is unsafe due to the blade housing. Reassembling the mower does not require that they run the motor. Running the motor does not require that they engage the blade linkage, especially with missing parts. I cannot assemble it because 1 - I don’t know how they took it apart in the first place and 2 - they lost a critical part. They ruined my expensive riding lawnmower, and refuse to take any responsibility.

They had a coupon in a mailer that I got. They were okay, but they were not great. I had just wanted a quality power drive wheel or transmission serviced and what they ended up doing was a complete service on the thing with oil change, spark plugs, and tune-ups that I did not ask for. I ended up paying for it. They did a decent job on it anyway, but there was a breakdown in communication as to what I wanted done and what they decided they were going to do. It took them three weeks to complete the job. My interactions with the workers were not too great. They had difficulty with English and were not enthusiastic about working there. So, it was a job to them, but it did not appear that they were enjoying their work. They did not convey that any customer coming in there was a welcomed customer and they were happy to see them. It was just a question of they were their doing the job, what do you want, and they will get it done for you. I did not think their price was great. I would probably not use them again.
Description of Work: I did use a lawn mower repair recently and it was Virginia Outdoor Power Equipment Company.

Actually, I experienced a minor problem with the service (more done than I requested), but this company worked so hard to solve the problem and make it right that I was wowed. Rick, a parts manager who solved the problem immediately without going up the chain for a solution, won a customer. Not only will I service all of my equipment here from now on, but I will purchase my future equipment from VOPEC. Look, these guys service a LOT of machines, because they really don't have much competition near the Beltway. They had over 700 mowers in the shop when we picked up my mower. For fast service, get your machine to them before spring! What you want is a company that will work to satisfy the customer and do the job right. This is that company!

My first mistake...although I subscribe to AL...I didn't check them out before using them! After reading the reviews, I would of never used them. Anyway, I brought in a snowplower to be repaired, leaking gas, blowing white smoke, would not start. The guy at the desk was very nice and said what he thought it might be and that he would call as soon as it was done. When i picked it up, I paid and asked a different front desk worker what all they did, he read me the receipt but when i asked specifics about the gas leaking out, he said he didn't know because he doesn't repair them. , The guys working loaded my snowblower in my car...my biggest mistake, I didn't ask them to start it for me, but it seems a reputable company would of offered. It was put in my car without gas so I should of known they never started it. Well, then the big snow storm hit...we were excited to finally use our blower and as we put the gas in the tank, it ran out everywhere, faster than we had put it in. You can only imagine the frustration that consumed my body. Fortunely for this company, they were closed and I had several hours of shoveling to cool me down! We finally did speak to the manager and he said to bring it back but first try to hit the side to get the ball to re-seat...because it does that sometimes during transporting. Whatever, what he should of done is send someone over to my house and fix it. then I would not be writing this unpleasant experience. Since then we hired a different company, Davis Lawn Tractor Repair, that does at home service repairs. They diagnosed that a gasket was missing and the carberator needed repair which contributed to the leak. They fix it, and now works like a charm. They started it before they left and answered all my questions prior to leaving.
Description of Work: Basically changed me for nothing...changed the oil, and cleaned the carberator

My husband and I visited this business today with the hope of buying a snow blower. We might just as well have been invisible. We were in the store about 20 minutes, and while their staff was busy with customers, even when they passed right by us to check a price, no one so much as made eye contact with us. No one said hello, we'll be with you in a minute, what are you looking for today - not a word or a glance. As far as we could tell, there were only 3 snow blowers in the showroom anyway. What a waste of time, including a round trip drive of some 25 or so miles. We had gone to this business based on past positive experience. Very sorry to see that things had changed so drastically for the worse.

Description of Work: They had my mower for over 2 weeks. They use the technicians in what they refer to as a "rotation" with equiptment. What became very apparent to me, is they focus on landscape companies, and put the regular "Joe" customer on the back burner. I just needed regular service, and then the service manager calls and said they had to order a part, whcih took an additional 2 days. The technicians are either salaried or hourly employees, so they "drag" their time in repairs, and magically have the equiptment ready torwards the end of the day. They will never, ever work on any of my equiptment again.

They have excellent service. I live close to them and I've been in business with them many times before and I've always been happy with them. The place have great selection to choose from and it's fair. The staff is fast and knowledgeable. They're close by so it's very convenient for me. Their prices are negotiable.

My experiences with VIRGINIA OUTDOOR POWER EQUIPMENT has been a great success story as I wanted better than average equipment, they provided me with the equipment. Every Purchase has had the salesman take the exact piece of equipment that I bought and he did a once over to check everything was there and tight, They take it outside fill it with gasoline and teach you how to start and use it and after all your questions are answered they give you a envelope with all the pertinent manuals, receipts and tools that come with the item being purchased. Every tool I have bought from them is registered for its warranty by the folks at Virginia Outdoor Power Equipment. They have always sent me home with a new fresh bottle of the particular 2 stroke oil to be mixed in the gas. Any tool that had oil in it was always filled up and ready to use. S-E-R-V-I-C-E !! I love it and I love the way they have treated me every time I show up. I have even had one of their salesman tell me that the particular tool I am looking at might be overkill for my application. They actually saved me over $250 on a purchase by selling me something more suited for my application. Everybody has to win in a transaction, I want a nice tool but I also want them to be in business when I need them! Also treat them like you would want somebody to treat you, these guys are human and they have their "days" too, smile, relax and let them help you. They are my first and only choice for lawn equipment! KEEP YOUR GASOLINE FRESH AND NEVER USE IT AFTER 3 MONTHS!
Description of Work: I purchased a couple accessories for my STIHL 110 Weed Wacker. Even though the part was fairly simple to add to my tool. The Professionals at Virginia Outdoor Power Equipment explained the optional equipment and how to install it properly. I was told if I had any problems that they would even help me install it just to be sure I had it working properly and most of all safely. The extra time made me feel like they really care about my purchase. I have purchased several STIHL tools from this company and have had nothing but glowing experiences. When I came in looking for a set of lawnmower blades for my lawn tractor they advised me that they don't carry them but they found a better grade got them very quickly. That is Service! I am an Engineer and I like quality equipment and I will pay it's price, I am also willing to pay a bit more for quality service after the sale. The equipment they have sold me is virtually commercial grade equipment and their price might be a few dollars more.. When have you ever found anybody at Home Depot or Lowes that really "knows" the tools they sell. I have seen lawn tractors that were improperly assembled by the "quality" employees paid minimum wage just to keep profit margins higher. This does not happen at Virginia Outdoor Power Equipment. These people know what they are talking about. They eat, breath, and live this stuff they sell. The quality of the Home Depot power lawn equipment leaves a lot to be desired. Most of the stuff they sell is designed for a single season of usage and then you throw it away and buy another. If that is the type of equipment or sales service or post-purchase support you want , go ahead and be "thrifty". I am tired of wasting money on JUNK. About 4 years ago I bought a new Self-Propelled Toro Lawnmower for my Father in law, I made sure it was serviced and maintained. Three months after I bought the machine (with it's 6.5 hp Engine) it wouldn't start. I took it to a mechanic and it turned out to have broken it's PLASTIC Camshaft. It didn't matter how long they guaranteed that it would start (it had a 1 year "Will start on 1st pull) it was junk and the manufacturer rejected the warranty saying that it had been abused. I have a Stihl Weed Wacker Model 110, a Stihl Chain saw, I have 2 Stihl Back-back Blowers, a Stihl vacuum bag shredder, a Stihl Hedge trimmer.

We had bought a Toro lawnmower from them 3 months earlier, choosing to spend the higher price they charged compared to Home Depot because they assured us that they provided terrific and effortless warranty service, while at Home Depot, we'd be on our own. 3 months and about 6 uses later (we mow our lawn every other week or so), the starter mechanism on the lawnmower broke. The warranty specified that it was fully covered. We took it in to them and after printing out the ticket for the service, they demanded a $100 deposit "in case Toro denies the warranty coverage". We explained to them that the warranty indicated that anything having to do with the starter was fully covered, but they said that in practice, the starter really isn't covered because "it could be another spring" and they end up having to charge for things that people think might be under warranty. We insisted again that anything having to do with starting the lawnmower was covered, but they said we had to pay or they wouldn't service it. Except for the fact that...because they had already taken the lawnmower and handed us the ticket, they were now legally bound to service it, so we in turn refused to take the lawnmower back and told them we would hang on to the ticket as proof of their liability. After we left, they called a policeman to the store to see if he could get us to take back the lawnmower. The policeman called us on the phone, and when we explained the situation, he confirmed that they had effectively entered into a binding agreement and they had to fix the lawnmowever. Then they told us it would take 3 weeks to fix it, and we said fine (by late October, the lawn doesn't grow much anymore anyway). We got a call about 2 hours later the same day telling us the lawnmower was fixed and to come take it away and not to come back. Well, we definitely agree with them about the not going back there ever again part.

Dropped mower off, explained that mower should be under warranty, and produced original purchase receipt as evidence of date of purchase. Store required a $35 deposit to even evaluate the mower, so I told them do not perform any work if it is not covered by warranty without calling me first. The repair order that I signed said "Self Propel Cable Broken. Check for Warranty." It did not say "Repair" or anything else that suggested I authorized repair work. I received a call about 10 days later saying my mower was ready for pickup, so I went to get it. I was then told I would be getting a $4 refund. I asked why I wouldn't get all $35 back because it should have been covered by the warranty. I was originally told it was because my mower was 3 years old so it was out of warranty. After I cleared that up, I was then told it was because the cable was not properly adjusted so it voided the warranty. I explained that I tightened the cable after it broke so that the tension would keep the broken end of the cable in the lever, thereby allowing me to complete mowing my yard. They said too bad - take it up with Toro. I asked that they call Toro and explain the situation, and they said no, I needed to it myself. It was never clera they even contacted Toro about the warranty in the first place. I refused to pay and demanded my deposit back because they were not authorized to performed any work outside of the warranty. They insisted they were authorized, and the guy who took in my mower and filled out the form stood silently while another clerk refused to offer any help. I explained that, if they had called me first, as I had requested, I could have called Toro and cleared up the warranty situation without wasting a trip to pick up my mower. My complaints fell on deaf ears, and the clerks were quite unapologetic and did not care to do anything to help. They took the cable off, and I left with mower in an unrepaired state. I am now left to call Toro myself. This place has horrible customer service. I am planning on getting a Stihl Combi in the next month or two, and I will drive out of my way to buy it from another Stihl dealer because I refuse to deal with this company -- except possible to have them complete the repair of my cable at Toro's expense. Don't do business with these guys if you expect any service after the sale. They clearly don't value their customers or their reputation.
Description of Work: Took in 1.8 year old Toro mower that was still under warranty for replacement of broken traction cable, which enables the self-propelled feature. Work was performed even though out-of-warranty work was not authorized. Costed me wasted trip and much time. Horrible Service!
