We needed a full bathroom renovation in our home. They were able to get it completed with our custom vanity installed in one piece. Had a bathtub conversion to a stand up wide shower with glass doors. Our bathroom looks like we designed it and wanted to thank Two Poor Teachers for their patience in getting this remodel done with us.

Great Company, Highly recommend! Jeremiah explained every step of the way in regards to the process of remodeling our bathroom. He knows this industry very well and the entire labor team was very polite and punctual. We will be hiring them again for our kitchen remodel

The kitchen and small bathroom remodel went very well, Covid put us on hold in the beginning (not TPT's fault) just made it difficult to get people in for quotes. All the cleanup and keeping distant made my family happy, we had a small leak from a old fridge line that went bad but when the crew ripped up the floor it was fine and no extra damage was found. We have new floors, cabinets, countertops, and enough lights to fully light up the room in all area. They did a great job, from the start of their work to the end walk through it was well worth it.

I would say that our experience with this kitchen remodel went better than we have had from other home contractors. We usually have a friend or family member work on our home projects but with the scale of this kitchen remodel that we have been planning we decided to get it done with a larger crew. Jeremiah and team were very knowledgable about the local codes, permitting, and lead processes. In fact that was one of the reasons we chose Two Poor Teachers. They knew what to look for during the quote phase and didn't shock us with unknowns or hidden costs. The new kitchen looks great and when we need to get the bathrooms refinished we will call them again

I wish there was a higher rating than "A", because Two Poor Teachers (2PT) certainly earned it. 2PT remodeled three of our bathrooms: the primary bathroom & walk-in closet; the hallway full bathroom; and a half bathroom near the front door, so I am extremely familiar with their professionalism and attention to detail. Specifically noteworthy was 2PT's high quality of work & craftsmanship, timeliness, meticulous daily clean-up, excellent advice on design and materials, clear and timely communication, respect for our property and privacy, flexibility in scheduling, highly competitive rates, and overall satisfaction of our concerns. Our assigned work crew was Henri (foreman), Daniel and Nelson; who did outstanding work, possessed a wide array of craftsmen skillsets, and were a joy to work with, as was Jeremiah Klein, who expertly presided over each remodeling job. We will be using 2PT again to remodel our kitchen next Spring with the utmost confidence that the job will be done to the highest standards. Based on my personal observation over a two-month period, and the overall excellent value, high quality of work, reliability & professionalism, 2PT has earned my highest recommendation.
Description of Work: Two Poor Teachers laid new tiles (floor and shower walls), installed new vanity and granite vanity top, tub & custom shower installation, plumbing, electrical work for lighting and fans, dry wall repair/replacement, painting, ceiling fan installation, mirror installation, caulking, grouting, etc.

With all our downtime and working from home we were finally able to hire a contractor to remodel the bathroom that we have been having issues with for the past year. Two Poor Teachers got the job done, replaced the bad plumbing and moved our shower piping so we could have a larger stand up shower while getting rid of the old tub.

I was very pleased with Two poor teachers. I wanted to add a bathroom in the basement in my townhouse. This company was very affordable, and able to start the job and complete the bathroom remodel promptly, as time was very critical in this instance for me. Their crews were all very friendly and professional and Jeremiah was easy to communicate with throughout the process. I will keep them in mind for any home remodeling projects and will recommend them to anyone in my area!

The remodel itself went well. The discovery of the floor under the carpet in the bathroom was something that Jeremiah prepared us for during the estimate. His team did a wonderful job with our new ceramic tile floor in the master bathroom, they gutted the whole bathroom and the new finished bathroom looks completely different than our old one.

Remodeling the kitchen was something I wanted to contract out due to my back. Had a few bids from locals and we picked Jeremiah's team at Two Poor Teachers thanks to the reviews we have seen of their work. I am glad we did the research and the wife is pleased with the work that was done. Our island bar is a unique piece in the kitchen that the cat seems to really enjoy. We had family over a week after they were done and everyone loved the new look. Thanks guys

Peter and Alex of Two Poor Teachers were fabulous. Every step of the way they talked to us to make sure everything was done to our specifications and satisfaction. The work they did included demoing walls and the current kitchen, electrical work, installation of cabinets, plumbing, and tile work, The kitchen was medium in size and the project was completed in 2 and a half weeks. Peter and Alex showed up every day and worked all day and the project was completed in the time that was determined beforehand by Jeremiah. Doing a complete renovation on a 50 year old original kitchen could be fraught with problems, but Peter and Alex took care of all issues and kept the project on schedule. Before the project began we were given a price quote and told what things would trigger overages, exactly how much they would cost per hour and Peter always talked to us about them and their cost ahead of time. We could not be happier with the end result and would recommend them highly to anyone else.

Perfect. Godo's crew was prompt and professional. He had the foresight to check the drain (this was a new bathroom installed in a room that had a previous bathroom 20 years ago) and found out there was problem before the tile installation. He saved us not just time but a significant amount of a potential additional expense. There were a couple of other unforeseen issues and in each case Godo came up with a perfect solution. On the second to last day of the project (took 5 and half days) I mentioned the realtor had scheduled a showing in the afternoon. The crew wrapped up their work for day an hour before the scheduled showing and cleaned the entire before the showing. Jeremiah did a great job in pricing and scheduling the project. The cost was 75% of two other contractors. He kept me informed of the status and any issues. I highly recommend them.

TPT was very clear about what the cost would be and when the work would be performed. Every cost comes off a standard worksheet, and the price for labor associated with change orders was clearly stated. The overall work quality was good and the price was reasonable. TPT has a good supplier who can provide stone counter tops at a very good price. The only surprise on cost was the need to replace the wood sub-floor as a change order for around $200, something that apparently happens more than occasionally. However, you should be aware that TPT works on a labor only contract, and you must pay for all the materials used when they are ordered (other than general construction supplies from Home Depot that are added to the bill at the end.) You get the TPT's discount from their preferred providers, but you own any problems with what you order (TPT does check that the tile quantities ordered are sufficient.) Our porcelain tile, plumbing fixtures, vanity and stone counter added another $4000 to the price I have little good to say about the delivery service from their plumbing supply contractor, Thomas Summerville. The delivery was inept and TPT did not inventory the delivery when it occurred. Summerville initially attempted to require I pay again for the items missing (suggesting, in my mind, that they were accusing me of actually receiving them.) TPT did intervene at my request and Summerville changed their position. We also had a problem with the installation of a listello band of mosaic tile, and both TPT and Mosaic Tile in Merrifield did a lot of finger pointing about whether either of them was in any way responsible. TPT eventually did some additional work that brought the job into the acceptable range for us. But, if you are a perfectionist, you might not have been happy. (Read and understand the contract fine print about contrasting grout, TPT will hold you to it...even when every available grout is probably contrasting.) Be sure to look over the Home Depot invoice. They are playing with your money, but you do not get the returns receipts. In my case, I needed to again provide the general contractor oversight and raise some obvious discrepancies (like two shower rods on the bill) to TPT. That spurred a detailed review by TPT that found some additional returns that I could not have known about. It was all just under $150, so you can ignore it if that magnitude of error does not bother you. The owner (Jeremiah) will wade into problems you raise with him, but only by phone. Do not expect to see him back on the job after the first day where he introduces you to the crew chief. This felt much more like a contractor/subcontractor relationship between him and the crew chief, with the homeowner overseeing the quality control. It is clear to me that this is one reason his prices are lower. If you are comfortable with that, this will be an attractive price. In retrospect, I feel that I did not save enough to justify the additional hassles and responsibility, hence my choice of "no" on the question of whether I would hire TPT again. Others might see the balance differently.

Response from TWO POOR TEACHERS INC
Thanks for your review of our firm. A few points to clarify. We do 200 bathrooms and 35 kitchens per year and are extremely flexible on how clients procure materials. We can bring samples to their home for a package bathroom, which while significantly limited in selection in comparison to the alternatives this creates zero hassle for the client in regards to delivery, invoicing, and vendor relationships as everything is handled in house by our firm. If client's want a broader range of options that are not available in our standard packages, or want to touch and feel things in person, and don't mind making the trip to the showroom, then we partner with multiple vendors in which we extend our full contractor discount. They also have the ability to purchase online, from Costo, Lowe's or any other third party vendor they want. There are no restrictions. The process and options for this are made 100% clear in our material selection process video which every client is given at the initial estimate phase, well before any contract is finalized. It is true that if the client seeks to go out on their own and procure materials through any of our partnering showrooms or third party vendors then they do of course take on some additional responsibility as opposed to the ease of a complete in house package, which unfortunately can create some additional hassles. We are always there to support our clients if issues arise with vendors as we did so in this case and never leave our clients out to dry or to fend for themselves. It is also made clear in person as well as in our process disclosure that the Crew Chief is the on site manager as they are the ones doing the install and most questions that come up during the project will be referenced back to them. There is no sub-contracting relationship here, and many concerns can certainly be handled by a simple phone call, email, or text, although certainly there are situations that can potentially arise in which additional on site visits are necessary from upper management. We have two pages worth of information in our "Tile Selection Guide" that every client is offered so they can be fully advised of common pitfalls and considerations when making their tile and grout selections since this is the most important aspect of the project. We do everything we can to make sure our clients are making educated decisions in advance, but are willing to install whatever any one clients preference is. When doing a labor plus materials project, we give the client 100% full disclosure of the materials used. We list out every 2x4, screw, trash bag, wax ring, etc. There's nothing to hide on this end. We partner with HD for our installation materials and yes it's possible for them to miss a return once in a blue moon and it's possible for us to miss that as well. This is the reason we detail clearly the 100 different materials to the client as well so we can do everything possible to ensure one persons oversight doesn't translate into undue costs to the client. We certainly do our best to fully inform our clients of their options and processes when partnering with our firm. Sometimes in retrospect it can seem as though the package options would have been simpler and easier, and there's no question about that. Labor plus projects have great benefits in material options, showroom sales staff assistance, and the like, but it also carries with it other potential complications and headaches. When these arise, we stand behind our clients and we make it right. The hardest part of this job is properly setting clients expectations so they know what they get and what they're paying for. Unfortunately no amount of expectation setting can account for the wisdom of the 20/20 hindsight experience that comes from recently completing a large scale renovation such as a bathroom remodel. This clients feedback as with all others has not fallen on deaf ears and will be taken into heavy consideration as we look for ways to improve our process and better assist our clients throughout the process regardless of what direction they choose to take in their material selection and acquisitions.

We obtained several estimates and read so many reviews before we chose Two Poor Teachers, and we could not be happier! From the first day that we met Jeremiah (General Manager who helped us plan out the remodeling), we knew we had finally found the right company. Jeremiah was extremely knowledgeable and gave us great insight into what would work best. His professionalism, honesty, and pleasant personality made it a joy to plan things out. We never felt pressured to make a choice that we didn't agree with. Al was the crew chief who worked on the job every single day, and he always made sure that everything was cleaned up before they left for the night. We called Al a couple of times with questions that cropped up during the remodeling project, and he responded almost immediately each time. We are now planning to remodel a smaller bathroom in our house and we're saving up for that next project. Without a doubt, we will be calling this great team to work with us again. Trust, reliability, professionalism, competitive price, honesty and talent all matter. We found these qualities in Two Poor Teachers. A+

This is an update to the work that we had done in our kitchen back on 4/8/16. The kitchen remodel still looks amazing we love spending time enjoying in our kitchen that still feels brand new. We had a slight issue with some grout from a leak in the roof, totally not a Two Poor Teachers issue however they were nice enough to touch up the grout that was affected! For this reason alone we will be calling them back for a bathroom remodel we are discussing this year.

Talks a big talk, but did not send us a quote or visit to provide a quote.
Description of Work: We were looking to have a bathroom built in our basement. First time took him 3 weeks to respond for a quote but was very nice and gave a lot of details about what would be done and materials and other contractorr...Since our contractor fell through, we contacted him again, he responded immediately but talks ridiculously fast on the phone and would not commit to come out and visit to give an exact quote (I found that disturbing). He said he would email the quote based on our discussion, well its 3 weeks later and I have received nothing. Hard to work with someone who doesnt seem interested in doing the work or is too busy and decides they can be selective.

This is a partially true statement and I do understand some of the frustration felt on the side of this potential client. They did receive an accurate estimate from us verbally and then did request an on site visit. After an extended in depth conversation multiple warning signs had been raised on our end. Their complications with their previous contractor, their resistance to the overall cost of the project, the difficulty in clearly communicating with them verbally, as well as several other factors did lead us to a state of "No Bid" on our end. This was the reason for our unwillingness to visit in person and give a formal estimate. Rather than simply saying over the phone that we didn't feel that our firm was an appropriate fit for their project we did simply refuse the on site visit and then not follow up again. While the path of least resistance we can certainly recognize the frustration this can cause and do apologize for that. We will seek in the future to be more direct so as to avoid these kind of emotional reviews from clients we didn't want to partner with and prevent any miscommunication.

It we very well, we found Two Poor Teachers from a friend that had a bathroom remodeled with them a few years ago. They did a complete remodel of our kitchen, new tile floor, island with granite countertops and new cabinets. They also changed our lighting in the room to recessed lights. They even put our project on hold for us when it was discovered that we may have had black mold behind a window frame. Which was all clear and they came back to finish the job

The job went very well. We had them out for the estimate and went over all the things we wanted with the new bathroom and mentioned the leak in the ledge. Since we wanted the entire bathroom remodeled Jeremiah let us know that it would not be an issue to replace that ledge what a piece of marble. They had the entire bathroom down to the studs in less than two days! The rest of the project went smooth, had our vent moved closer to the shower as well to help with our issue we had with the bathroom before the remodel. We love the work that was done and are happy with the results. We did read the reviews on Angie's List before choosing them as our contractor, it's funny how customers here will hold a contractor hostage in a review update over a small issue that appears years after the work. Plus the customer doesn't update their review after the contractor openly responds that the work was fixed. We thought Two Poor Teachers did a great job and if we need another remodel in the future we will be calling them!

UPDATE: We have contacted the client and re-grouted the small area of concern to her and our satisfaction. It should be clear to anyone who reads this that a company that three years after the installation that is willing to come back and do warranty work free of charge is in no way deserving of an F rating for this situation. Please update your review.. We do over 200 bathrooms and 35 kitchens per year. It is certainly not common for grout to wash away after only a few years. Settling and other factors can play into this, however we do warranty our work to be done to current codes and standards at the time of installation. We have reached out to the client and offered to touch up any problem areas with their grout free of charge. When selecting a contractor what's most important is one who stands behind their work. In remodeling problems can arise. Anyone who reads this review should know that if they have a similar problem result from their renovation with our firm we will stand behind them and make it right just like we are willing to do for this client.

The bathroom Two Poor Teachers remodeled for us is absolutely beautiful! They did an amazing job. Our project went very smoothly and was enjoyable from start to finish from our work with Jeremiah who went over our estimate and what we needed to have done and provided ongoing advice on tile, fixtures and endless explanations on contracting terms to Peter who led the bathroom project at our house. Peter was in constant communication with us every step of the way, letting us know what was being worked on each day, any problems they encountered (which they did have to do some additional work due to our old house not having any upgrades in 50+ years, so we needed some additional electrical work done and some plumbing moved to make the bathroom more functional). He walked us through all of the options, offered lots of explanations and descriptions on things we weren't familiar with, and offered his opinion on different ways of doing things and how they would work/look doing things each way, and in the end, transformed what was an extremely ugly and old bathroom. They did amazing tile work on the walls and floors, added a recessed shower box, added lighting over the shower and vanity, a new ceiling vent that wasn't there before, a new sink and vanity, new faucet and shower fixtures, new toilet, recessed medicine cabinet, put in a new door, painted and kept our house, garage, yard and driveway neat and clean. We've had other contractors where we have not had this experience, and it was so great to work with a team who communicates along the whole process, keeps you informed about everything and involves you in all the decisions and does such good quality work. We would refer Two Poor Teachers to anyone wanting a quality contractor to take care of your home and transform whatever space you are looking to remodel, add-on to or repair. We feel very fortunate to have met them at a home show a few years ago and look forward to having them continue to remodel our house, room-by-room, over the next several years.

We had a great experience working with Two Poor Teachers. We had a new kitchen installed. They helped with the design and guided us through the process. The demo of the old kitchen was quick and we donated the cabinets once they were out. We did have some surprises had some bad wood rot under the dishwasher. The crew was ready to fix the issue and they repaired the rotten parts and continued with the install. We have some great looking granite countertops, new cabinets, appliances and more! They helped us pick out fixtures and worked out the project timeline. Reasonable price and very easy to work with. Very high quality kitchen.

Jeremiah was a pleasure to work with - mindful of our budget and working with us to create our vision within our parameters. We had everything defined prior to signing our paperwork so we understood our commitment upfront. The team is amazing at coordinating installation work. Most importantly, if there ever was a problem - it was resolved to my satisfaction. They want to insure that you are satisfied with your work. We only had one change and that was due to hidden pipes/ductwork in a soffit - I was very satisfied with the change recommendation and felt that it was priced fairly.

We had two bathrooms remodeled and were pleased that it was a very positive experience. Jeremiah set everything up and made all the selections as easy as possible. Agustin and Nelson were great and very nice to work with.- they were always on time and worked hard to complete the project. With any problem that came up, Agustin always had a good solution. We were very happy with the final result and would love to have Agustin be in charge of a kitchen renovation.
