They did a great job. We were very happy with their service. We had one problem with the feature on a window and they came right own and corrected the issue. They also came right out when we had an issue with another window.

I think it's important when you did business with someone a number of years ago and they are still responsive to any new issues and stands by their products with great after-the-fact service.
Description of Work: We had WindowMan replace all the windows in our home about 6-7 years ago. We were having trouble with one window that no longer would tilt out for cleaning so called their office. We were connected to Tammy in their business office who gave us ideas to try to get the window to tilt out. When we were unsuccessful, she arranged for one of the workmen to come by the house that day to get the window back in alignment. While he was there, I mentioned that the brass door handle on the patio door they installed was discoloring. They determined that it was still under warranty and ordered a new handle which they came back and installed.

The process is a 3-step process -- first they come and do an estimate, describing the products they offer, and you can choose what you want and sign a contract and give them a 50% deposit. Then they have to come out again and do an accurate measurement prior to ordering the window. Then it has to be installed when it comes in. I found that it takes a bit more time to do this than I would have liked -- all together it was probably around two months to get the window replaced. But they were very pleasant and professional to deal with, and the installation was quick, the guys were knowledgeable, and they did an excellent job and cleaned up nicely afterwards. They came each time when they said they would. It was over $1000 for one casement window, which was not even top-of-the-line, so I was a bit surprised by the cost, although the window was a fairly large one. I did not comparison shop with other companies.

We met Matt, the sales rep, at a home show in January. He was extremely patient, professional, and polite as we narrowed our choice down. This included multiple visits by him to our home and meetings at their showroom, as well as two visits for final measurement of the windows, as we debated among ourselves for months whether to go for the incredibly well-made H-Windows or just the excellent quality Marvin Infinity windows. In the end, we decided the H-Windows would be "over-improving" our home, and we settled on the Marvin windows. We also got proposals from several other local Marvin window installers, but none matched the professionalism and value of The Window Man. After finally making our decision, paying the deposit, and waiting for the windows, the call came that the windows had arrived. On the day of installation, a large crew appeared right on time. Han, the leader, met with me to go over the details of the installation. He was very careful to make sure everything was done to my complete satisfaction. I've often heard that the installers are the most important part of new windows, and Han is the best. I've had windows installed at two previous homes, and neither came close to the quality of workmanship done by Han and his crew. Full tearouts are a lot of work, and the crew worked a full 11 hours to complete the job in one day. Every bit of trash was picked up, the dust vacuumed up inside the house, and the windows were wiped clean as a final nice touch. Even after such a long day, Han remained to patiently answer numerous questions we had. We're ecstatic over every aspect of this job - the staff at the Windows Man and the quality of the product are among the best experiences we've ever had in 25+ years of home improvement projects.
Description of Work: Replacement of 16 window openings, most of which included multiple units, with Marvin Infinity windows. Included full tearout of 44 year old windows and interior finishing. Used Azek trim that we supplied for exterior brick moulding, as well as a particular interior trim that we also supplied to match our interior door trim.

I really want to thank The Window Man for the time and attention given me on the purchase of my new kitchen rear entry door and storm door. Sometimes all the details can be daunting and I appreciate all the details they reviewed with me, including the pros and cons of certain features. I also want to mention I had my first quote a year ago from a VERY well known company. The odd thing was that the quote was supposed to be good for a year. When I called 10 months later they were in a quandary as to whether or not they could honor the quote previously given me. Apparently my salesman was no longer there and the quote he gave me was on a carbon copy document of theirs but the copy was never sent to their office. It seems I was transferred from one person to the next and waited and waited to hear if the previous quote was one they would recognize. In the meantime, knowing the brand I wanted with this VERY well known company and that The Window Man carried it, I found that your price was approximately $800 less without even bringing up anything about the VERY well known company situation. Amazingly I did not have to wait very long for the custom door (same brand as the VERY well known company was going to provide) to arrive and your installation team did a great job. I also appreciated that your office staff person called while the doors were being installed just to see if all was going well. Thank you so much. I really love the new doors. I love the light that comes in and brightens up my kitchen and the storm door with the retractable screen is magical! P.S. And I saved a lot of money. Happy Ending!
Description of Work: I had two rear entry doors repaced . One replacement door was the back door leading to the kitchen and the other was a compatabile storm door.

Our window shopping experience with Nick was easy and pressure free.
Description of Work: Nick Kalivretenos at The Window Man assisted my wife and I for about 2 weeks as we shopped for windows this summer. Nick took all my technical and other measurement data I emailed him and had several, easy to read versions of quotes that all met our needs/wants but that provided us will clear options--this was extremely impressive since at this time one of the Window Man's competitors could not even get the number of windows we needed replaced correct...even after the home consultation. Nick was on time for the on site lead testing/measuring, and promptly gave us a quote soon thereafter. We very much liked Nick but ultimately were swayed by the product of a competitor. Nick however is a must-meet expert on windows and should be met by anyone who is seriously contemplating a large renovation.

Overall my experience was excellent. I purchased approximately 18 Soft-Lite Elements double hung windows. Installation went well. The crew did some unforeseen carpentry work, which required them to go to Home Depot. Issues that I brought up that could be handled on the spot were. I have only one ding. There was a problem with the coil system in one of two large windows that prevented it from opening easily. Per the crew, it was a manufacturing defect. He said that someone would come out to fix it. After waiting a couple of weeks, we called The Window Man to follow up. Apparently they closed the job out as finished! So, more communication is definitely needed between the installation crew and the office. Once notified of the problem, they came out immediately to fix it. I would definitely use them again. The product was excellent; the price was excellent; the installation was excellent; and dealing with the office was excellent.

The company changed their price after we had a signed contract, and after they had cashed our deposit check. We have canceled the contract, and they are refunding our deposit. The Window Man salesman was very nice and easy to work with, and they quoted us a good price - not the lowest we got, but approximately $1000 less than the other company we were strongly considering. We signed a contract, and they cashed our 50% deposit check. Up to that point, I was very comfortable with the company and the process. When they came out to measure, the measurement guy did not have our contract with him. Ultimately, he was knowledgeable and I felt comfortable with his work, but it was a little unsettling at first that he did not have all the details of our project with him. He could not complete the measurements, because he needed to discuss the window tear out with the owner. Four days later I received a call from the original salesman, letting me know that he had underestimated the price of the job by $1700, but had talked the owner into only raising the price by $1000. I have never had this happen before - a price change (with what I consider to be a little bit of sales tactic thrown in), after we had a signed contract and they'd cashed our deposit check. It may have been an honest mistake, but the salesman implied that he couldn't have been totally confident about the cost until the measurement guy came out. If that's the case, they should have let us know up front so we could have measurements done up front before signing a contract. I accepted their offer to return our deposit, and we will be working with the other company.
Description of Work: We received many quotes for our window project - replacing 13 original windows in our 70 year old house. The project is a little tricky, because it involves taking out one window on the 2nd story and widening the opening to accommodate two new windows.

Response from The Window Man
We could not accept her contract at the price given due to a gross under estimate on the "CUT OUT" part of the job. We are more than qualified to do this type of work but don't do cut outs often enough for our sales people to have "book" prices for them. He should have gathered information and pictures for review in our office before pricing the cut out. From a purely legal stand point we do have a "Final Approval" signture block on the agreement which of course was not signed. The rest of the work was basic work we do every day and was priced correctly. We apologize for any inconvenience to her and wish her well with the other contractor.

It was a terrible experience. To be sure, it could have been worse: they did take responsibility for their numerous mistakes and they did finally finish the job. That said, I feel like they should practically have paid me in the end, it took so much work to get this done right. And it took 5 months. I had two storm doors installed: an extremely simple job. But their technician, Brian, kept showing up and only doing part of the job, or not having the correct equipment or parts. Three times we had an appointment for him to come back and redo, and he didn't show up at all. Even when I finally persuaded them to start sending a somewhat more competent employee to do the work, he ended up putting the handles of the two doors--which are right next to each other--at wildly different heights, making the whole job look freakish. I used these guys because they were well regarded on Angie's list, but from my experience they have serious coordination problems. Not sure if it was just the size of the job,but frankly they shouldn't take on smaller jobs if they are going to do a poor job with them. Update: they did send me a gift card, which was nice, but I wrote this review before I noticed that all the fussing with the door handles meant that they left the inside of my door frame with giant holes that I will have to fill in and paint. They also left discarded door frame parts on the site, and I just had another window technician in for another job--not using Window man again--and he was amazed they didn't bother to use foam or caulking to cover the area between the door frame and the storm door to maximize sound reduction. All told, these guys earned their "D."

After reviewing this job file I must agree that we did NOT excute well and will be sending the member an apology and gift card. We are confident that she will have many years of "QUIET" enjoyment from her ACOUSTIC storm doors and hope that also helps offset the drawn out process of getting them. In the for what it is worth {excuse] deoartment: #1 Fall is our busiest season and last fall was DOUBLE our normal volume due to the tax credits expiring. Frankly we were overwhelmed for a while. #2 ACUSTIC storm doors are unique an we can only get them from one of our slowest suppliers.

I contacted the Window Man after seeing their trucks driving around. They were able to beat a competitor's quote, so I had them come out for measuring. The salesman was very responsive and professional. The request to schedule the measuring got dropped somewhere in the office so I had to call and move that along after I didn't hear from the Office Manager for over a week. Measuring happened, windows ordered as expected. Six weeks later, the windows were in. I got a call to setup the appointment and after some phone tag got it scheduled about a week later. The crew showed up on time and started work promptly. They were courteous and pleasant. They finished the job quickly and cleaned up after themselves. The installation seems great so far. They replaced some rotted wood and sealed everything up. The windows are great. My first pleasant experience was when the ice cream truck came by the house with their awful music. To my great satisfaction, I could barely hear that SOB. I can tell the windows are leak proof by the lack of drafts. Having them installed after the cold and before the heat the jury is still out on the energy performance. My only complaint about the windows would be the locking mechanism seems a little cheap. It works okay, but you have fiddle with it sometimes. I'll get used to them I'm sure. Overall a good experience. I would recommend The Window Man for replacement windows etc.

Everything went better than I had anticipated. I am a cynic by nature and generally prepare for disappointment when dealing with contractors. I've renovated 5 houses over the past 30 years and have enough stories to write a book. However, in dealing with the folks at "The Window Man" (sales person, installation technicians and billing department) I was astounded at their friendliness, competency and professionalism. They sold me a fine product at a reasonable price, installed it correctly and on time as well as handled the billing with a competency that was refreshing. The installation technician (Harry) had over 20 years experience doing this line of work and handled installation surprises (which other contractors would have sited as a reason for increasing the price) as if they had been anticipated and prepared for. . . . . Bravo to a very professional team, I am pleasingly satisfied.

It was an OK experience overall. Nick the sales guy was really friendly and certainly seemed to be an expert on windows. Lots of knowledge especially about soundproofing, which we were really interested in because of where we live. (near trains) We like their windows and the option to get laminate. We did go through some serious price negotiations to get them to match a price we got with someone else. They worked with us but it felt more like a used car scenario than i would have wanted. My biggest problem with the Window man was that the sales contract said they would make their "best effort" to get the windows installed in 4-6 weeks. After 6 weeks i called them and they said the manufacturer was running behind and it would be a another 2 weeks before the windows were even delivered to them. That was thanksgiving week and we were out of town, so the first time we could get them here was a full 10 weeks after we ordered. I think at the very least they should have called us to let us know there was a big delay. The wording in the sales contract is obviously very "loose" so there was no real accountability. I called them a few days prior to the install to ask about preparing the house and they apparently had never sent a confirmation letter that had all these details. There was also some miscommunication about the lead testing and house was not tested until after we signed the sales contract, which was a mistake as that seriously effects price. The install team worked hard and seemed committed to doing a good job, but i did find a few gashed in our wood window frames after they left. Overal.. just ok.

Response from The Window Man
We blew it on the lead time (punctuality) and we should have called her to let her know the order was not going to make our normal time-line. We have apologized and will send her a gift certificate for her inconvenience. The home was not tested for lead paint on the first visit as “noise” was the problem and the best solution for that is a “secondary” storm window with laminated glass. That would not require any “demo” which means lead paint would not have been an issue. After the customer visited our showroom nearby, she chose to go with vinyl replacement windows with laminated glass for noise reduction. There was a lot of “back-and-forth” because she was shopping us versus another window company. We have a “Match or Beat” pricing policy but it requires “apples to apples” comparison and documentation. Some of our competitors do not put a lot in writing. The “loose” wording on lead times in our contract is needed because we are dependant on “A” the manufacturer making and shipping on time; “B” the weather. Customer “requested” we email the installation confirmation letter. It appears they did not receive it. The customer signed our job completion form with NO comments or any mention of “a few gashes in our wood window frames.” Since we are “now” aware of this we will follow up and take care of it.

This was our 2nd time using Window Man. The first time was only to replace a sliding glass door which was a very good experience. For all the windows in our townhouse the estimator, Ham Smith, set a time to review the work and give us a quote. When he didn't show at the time originally agreed to I contacted him by cell phone. For some reason he did not have our appt. on his schedule. However, he was able to immediately responded after we called. He provided us with a quote at the time of his visit and included a discount due to other homeowners using Window Man as a result of our recommendations. Ham was always available by phone to make changes to the quote or to provide us with additional pricing on a special window we considered for our kitchen but which we did not purchase due to the additional cost. We were contacted about 6 weeks after the windows were ordered to set up the installation which was within the time frame we were originally told to expect. The installers arrived as scheduled and completed installing the windows on the front of the house (6 windows) the first day. However, we did not know (were not told at the time the installation was scheduled) they were not going to finish the work on consecutive days. Instead, the installers left Wed. evening and did not return until the following Monday to finish installing the windows on the back of the house. Then the one installer who worked on Monday left early for another job and did not return until Thursday to complete the capping. The installer who did the bulk of the work was excellent and worked non-stop in extreme heat and humidity and sometimes 3 stores up. The final job was excellent and we would use Window Man again. But, they do need to do a better job of scheduling installers and giving clients a heads up if the work will not be completed on consecutive days.
Description of Work: Eleven windows were replaced in my townhouse and all trim was re-capped. The original capping had to be removed before the windows could be installed and trim re-capped.

Jon was our salesperson, and he was wonderful with us (and our 2 year old son). We were a bit disappointed in the follow-up communication regarding installation dates - we were never contacted that our order was delayed, and we had some installation scheduling issues. However, the crew that came was extremely fast and efficient, especially considering we had lead paint issues and needed a more rigorous window removal process.
Description of Work: We needed to replace all the original windows in our 1960s house. We wound up replacing 22 in total, and went with the top of the line windows.
