They were amazing. They were fantastic. They really were incredibly good also. When I went into the store, I wanted a decent quality but inexpensive basement carpets and there were lots of options there. The gentleman there was very helpful and I ended up going with a lower grade carpet with a higher-grade pad. I was thrilled because it is so comfortable but it is the basement but it is a big one with a guest bedroom down there, so I had told the gentleman I was very particular. Two guys came and installed and they were so neat and clean. There was not one marking on the wall and there were lot of turns in the basement, so it was not an easy job but the walls were not marked up, the carpets look beautiful, it is soft and the pad is excellent. They came on time and did a great job. I was very impressed actually and I had never used Home Depot before. It was very reasonably priced for the decent quality and they are really nice to work with, they are super nice and efficient. It is a super large organization but I never had trouble getting them on the phone. I had to change the install date, none of that was a big deal, and you always worry about that when you are dealing with an enormous corporation. However, they were very flexible, very nice and the install went really smoothly considering I have a pretty large basement. I would definitely use them again too.

My experience with the Home Depot At Home Services began fairly wonderful. The salesman Jim Merritt was on time, knowledgeable, and provided a competitive price. It was AFTER the sale that everything went down hill. The installation team was a no show, no call for TWO appointments. The 1800 number was an absolute disaster and no one seemed to care. I reached out to our salesman and he response was 'I don't know what to say.' I've dealt with a lot of bad contractors, but Home Depot takes the cake! I'm on two months after purchasing insulation and it's still not installed!

In the appliance section of The Home Depot, the staff is extremely knowledgeable and helpful. They gave us a quote that not only was cheaper than the competition but allowed us 90 days delivery not 30 days of the equipment which is a big deal. The guy that we dealt with is why we went with Home Depot, the staff is very good. They were slightly cheaper than the other stores we went to. They've worked with us to get s the best value.

They were actually really great. I don't know who they have doing their shed installation but it was a really quick and painless process. Nobody had to be home, which was nice. My husband actually was home and he said they were here, had the shed installed and were gone within 90 minutes. It was kind of nice to see it done in 90 minutes and no mess and no fuss for us. It was pretty cheap. I think it was $400 for the installation and that was well worth it. The shed looks great so they did a nice job putting it together. They sent flags in the mail early in the week so you just put the flags in the yard where you wanted the shed to go. That way, if you weren't here, they didn't have to worry about not putting the shed in the right spot or whatever so that was kind of nice.

I went with hardwood flooring installation from the Home Depot Merrifield store thinking it was safer with a big box retailer. Was I ever wrong! The initial part of the process required Measure Comp, a 3rd party vendor from Home Depot, to come to the house to measure the flooring. This part went well and they were prompt and professional. Thereafter, I confirmed with Measure Comp the flooring product from HD, and in turn, the entire price for installation in my home. I provided Measure my Visa credit card number thinking I paid the $4,400 for the 450 sq ft of flooring installation. However, the next day I received an email and call from the Merrifield store stating my credit card was not working and that I needed to pay for the flooring to initiate the installation process. We are moving into our new home in 3 weeks so I needed to expedite the process. Later that day, I reported the Merrifield store to resolve the issue with my credit card. Once again, my Visa credit card did not work so I called Visa while at the HD and was informed that HD charged my credit card 4 times for the $4,400 resulting in my credit card being maxed out. Essentially, HD charged me $17k for the flooring which resulted in my 20K credit limit being maxed out. The Visa representative stated that the only way to resolve this issue was to have HD reverse or cancel the charges. In the meantime, my credit card was not available because I had no credit left. When I informed the HD store representatives of the problem they stated that they could not find any problem on their end and that I needed to correct the problem with Visa. Essentially, they said it was not their fault and that they could not do anything to fix the problem because they had no record of the transactions in question. Given that I needed to install the floors immediately, coupled with the fact that I had no lines of credit, I opened a HD line of credit to start the flooring process. When got home I checked my Visa charges online and seen HD charged me 9 times for the $4,400 of which only the first 4 went through. The other 5 times were denied because the credit limit was exceeded. I called HD and confirmed that I have my credit card statement to prove that I was over charged. Once again they said it was not their problem. In fact, the store manager, Freddie, was initially defensive and rude until I faxed him my credit card statement showing the 9 charges!!! Freddie apologized and stated that that he called the HD corporate headquarters to have the charges canceled; however, it would take 7 - 10 days to clear the charges from my credit card. Since I have recurring charges on my Visa, e.g., cell phone bill and gym membership, I started receiving emails and calls that payment was not received. In addition to addressing these annoying issues, I had no lines of credit to make purchases. At this time, HD acknowledged that they attempted to charge my credit card several times, but the transactions never went through because they had the wrong zip code for my billing address. In turn, each inquiry they made went against my credit limit. At the time of writing this email, I have no Visa card available and I'm still cleaning up the mess HD did with maxing out my credit card limit. This ordeal has been a nightmare and I would never recommend using HD again!

They used a subcontractor to do the work. We have only been in our house for a year. At our last house we went through smaller unknown companies and we didn't like the result and it was very hard to reconcile anything. This was 10 years ago. We decided to go with the big box companies instead for this work. We went to another company and they were way too expensive so we decided to go with Home Depot. They reconcile a lot easier and a lot faster. We also like that when we have construction done, if we don't like it, they will send another company out. With one contractor that is it and there is nobody else to deal with. That's why we went to the big box store. The subcontractor did a good job. They were very punctual. We would absolutely use them again.

A job that should have taken a day or two took almost three weeks to finish. The lady who came for measuring was a nice lady and she showed up on time and got the job done really fast, but for some reason she specified that they cut the carpet right down the middle. You would walk on a seam of the carpet if you walked into the room through the door. The people who came to lay the carpet said they could not lay the carpet because of the seam and that the carpet had been cut wrong and they would have to piece it together. They did that and it looks okay, but there is a seam in the carpet which is unnecessary and did not need to be there. They said that the carpet was wide enough and they could have used just one big piece and there was no need to have specified two pieces. This was all due to the woman who measured the room. No one at the carpet company that cut the carpet thought about this and said anything because they had the diagram in front of them just like the woman who did the measuring did. It was a comedy of serious errors from start to finish. I went to Home Depot because the carpet had been bought there and I had taken a piece of the carpet with me but they couldn't match the carpet. I did not understand that because the carpet was less than three years old. I had scheduled for the work to be done on Saturday so that I could be home but they did not turn up on that day. I called them and found out that they had got the schedule to the work on Monday. The lady who spoke to me was very rude. The job finally got finished this morning. The carpet layers came half an hour late because they had not been provided with the correct address. They knocked down a box while they were carrying the carpet downstairs and broke a bunch of pictures and ruined two of them. Then we found out that the carpet had not been properly cut and it was a nightmare. The workers did lay the carpet very nicely once they got to it. They have promised to refund me the cost of the installation and I am waiting to hear from Home Depot about the fact that they cut my carpet wrong. I am going to demand some refund on the cost of the carpet too. I called Home Depot and registered a complaint today but no one has called me back on that. I am really more than fed up with that whole experience. I will never contract with them to do anything ever again.

BEWARE OF PURCHASING A HOME DEPOT CARPET MAINTENANCE PLAN. The experience of ordering the carpet and having it installed in two separate properties went well. But things went down hill from there. First, Home Depot provided NO care instructions for the wall-to-wall carpet installation. (Same experience with new vinyl installation.) If you purchase a frying pan it comes with care instructions! So I visited the Merrifield Home Depot (where I placed the orders) and asked for carpet care instructions. I was brushed off. When I pressed the issue, the manufacturer was contacted. The carpet manufacturer faxed unreadable care instructions. After several weeks and reminders, I finally obtained care instructions from the manufacturer. Second, I purchased two Carpet Maintenance Plans -- through the Merrifield Home Depot -- for both properties. When I attempted to register the Carpet Maintenance Plans with the Home Depot Warranty Office, they would not accept the receipt number. They said I needed a separate register receipt that detailed the Carpet Maintenance Plan. Merrifield Home Depot provided a bundled receipt (included the carpet purchase, carpet installation, and Carpet Maintenance Plan). Upon contacting the Merrifield Home Depot flooring manager about this discrepancy, he said he or someone else would look into it and call back. That was Wednesday afternoon. No return call on Wednesday. No return call on Thursday. Friday I called the Merrifield Home Depot manager and explained the situation to him and then to an "Expediter" (resolution specialist). I requested that one Carpet Maintenance Plan be canceled -- which was done successfully. The other Carpet Maintenance Plan was to be put into the warranty system. Later, I received a call from the "Expediter" that things were resolved and there would be followup to ensure resolution. And, that I could do the same. A week later I called the Warranty Office and was told the following: INFORMATION RECEIVED FROM STORE IS NOT THE INFORMATION THE WARRANTY ADMINISTRATORS NEED TO CREATE A CONTRACT!. I again called the Merrifield Home Depot manager and spoke with him and the "Expediter." I learned that after the "Expediter" faxed information to the Home Depot Warranty Office there was no followup by the "Expediter" or by the Warranty Office for missing information. Needless to say I now have ZERO confidence in the Home Depot resolving the Carpet Maintenance Plan and requested a refund.

custom cabinets, electrician, lighting, home theater design

Before we could get started with the design, Home Depot had to measure the two areas where the cabinets would be installed. They charged $100 for the initial measurements, which was applied to the final project cost. Ortiz Construction of Reston, VA came to my home and measured the areas where the cabinets were to be installed. Based on the drawings from Ortiz, the designer at the local Home Depot store created a design and specifications for the cabinet installation. As I was reviewing the drawings, I noticed that some of the cabinets seemed to be the wrong size based on what I know from my home and what I had explicitly pointed out to Ortiz during the measurement process. I had to have Ortiz come out and redo the measurements and the drawings submitted to Home Depot. The one set of cabinets is still 8? too short in length due to measurement errors. The Home Depot quote included a full detailed quote from Ortiz Construction for the installation services. The installation required electrical work ? some receptacles and recessed lights needed to be moved. The installation services totaled $4,300. The electrical work was $1,800. In addition to the $4,300 of installation services, I was charged $250 for the ?Permit Fee.? I expressed my concern about the cost of the electrical work knowing how much work really needed to be done. I accepted the quote, since I did not have the time to do the installation myself. Ortiz Construction showed up to start the installation. They took inventory of the cabinets, outlined the location of the cabinets and cut holes in the walls to accommodate the electrical work. That is when the trouble started. The electrician told me that there were more units to be installed than were on his list. I told him that this made no difference to me, since all the units were clearly outlined on the drawings that I had signed and that they had arrived with on the job site. They had also estimated having to run a wire all the way back to the circuit breaker box as part of the installation. Since I had wired the basement myself, I showed the electrician a receptacle he could use as a starting point. He even admitted that this saved him half a day of work. Ortiz then informed me that this would require a change order and that they were going to charge me for the additional work. They stopped all work, presented me with a change order totaling $680 for items in the drawings that they had ?inadvertently overlooked? with no credit for the work that I had saved them. I called Home Depot to complain, and the manager simply told me that it was OK with them for Ortiz to charge me more for mistakes they had made in their estimations. I reluctantly signed the change order, since at that point my entire basement was unusable due to all the unpacked cabinets and openings in the walls. In the process of moving one of the recessed lights, the electrician broke the light. I asked him to fix it. He simply replied that it would be an additional change order for $300. He said that the light was ?about to fail anyway?. I refused the change order, and the light is still broken today. On the second day of the installation, the crew showed up, closed in the walls, and installed the rest of the cabinets with the exception of those that would sit above a countertop on the entertainment center. During the installation, the crew pulled their pickup truck around the back of the house. They broke enough branches off the hydrangea bushes that lined the driveway to fill an entire trashcan. On December 7, I called the Home Depot store manager to complain about the change orders and the cabinet color. Before calling the Home Depot store manager, I checked the Arlington County on-line permit system, and discovered that Ortiz had not pulled a permit for the work. Here are the points I covered with the manager: 1. The change orders were unacceptable, since they were for items clearly marked on the drawings. The store manager would have to call Ortiz and ask. 2. The change orders did not take into account work that I had legitimately saved the electrician. He would have to ask Ortiz. 3. The crew decimated the hydrangea bushes. He would have to ask Ortiz. 4. No permit was pulled. I demanded my $250 back. He would have to ask Ortiz. The initial response from Home Depot on the installation front was an offer to provide us with a few free hydrangea bushes. Ortiz also came back with the excuse that they did not pull permits until the work was substantially complete so that they would not incur change fees. I reminded Home Depot that the code requires permits to be pulled before work commences and that Arlington County does not assess change fees unless there is a significant change in the scope. Ortiz said they were standing behind their change orders. I reminded the Home Depot store manager that it was his responsibility to get this straightened out. Since I did not have contractual privity with Ortiz, my next step was to inform Arlington County and the state of Virginia about the actions taken. A day later, a permit miraculously appeared under my address. That same day, the store manager called back to let me know that Ortiz was refunding part $150 of the permit fee, and $350 of the electrical installation fee based on the wiring not run to the circuit breaker box. I also let him know that we had not yet resolved the issues surrounding the cabinet color and the broken light. I had Arlington County come in and do the inspection required under the permit, and as I expected, the worked failed inspection on numerous counts ? wiring concealed before the proper inspection was performed, one switch mis-wired and no extension boxes on receptacles behind the cabinets. The latter is a fire hazard, since the wiring is not shielded from the plywood in the cabinets, which is highly flammable due to the glues and finished used in the cabinets themselves. Four months later, I am completing the installation myself, since I cannot trust Ortiz to complete properly, and I have to fix all the problems that they created while they were here during the initial installation.

You are gambling with Home Depot - because they subcontract all of the work. Your quality depends entirely on your Home Depot project manager, who each tend to manage their own pools of subcontractors. I didn't meet my Home Depot PM until after I had asked for him to be removed from the job. My subcontractor was for both the windows and siding. A good guy and company once you personally establish your expectations with the owner. You need to understand how Home Depot does business, how that impacts the subcontractor and ultimately impacts the home owner. My house had, at one time, cedar plank siding, cedar shake roof and windows with gaps. I told Home Depot from the get-go to make sure to repair all internal damage, if at all questionable. I wanted peace of mind more than to control costs. The windows were first and went quickly and professionally, the subcontractor and his crew were in and out in a short time (with 20+ windows). I never saw the Home Depot Project Manager. Turns out they were the same subcontractor for my siding work. It didn't go as well. During construction we had TV outage #1 when it rained, I called the sub, he showed up, found the problem and fixed it. Outage #2 impacted the phone too, which was a bigger concern. I decided to contact Home Depot Project Manager. It was a Sunday. When I told him the problem, he asked why I was calling him. I said to fix it. He laughed and blew me off. Called the sub, he showed up and tried to find the problem. Eventually, the phone company found the loose connection. There was extensive water damage near my chimney. I asked for it all to be replaced (my cost). I left to run an errand, came back and the wall was boarded up and siding installed. I called the Home Depot PM, he said he trusted the subcontractor. I had to get testy with him to get what I wanted, the wall opened up for six feet so I could inspect the repairs. We scheduled a time, I showed up and he didn't have it done. I reached through the small hole and ripped out the foam, there was gaps where there should be wood. It didn't look right. The damage was covered by foam insulation spray and a 2x4. I had to escalate, a source in the Home Depot sales department told me who to call in the chain to get a result (and asked that I not tell anyone he had given me the name and number). I am not kidding. I had the PM removed, the wall was opened and the rot was there. I could put a screwdriver through what should have been two 2x4s. The boss of Home Depot PM acted like, "Oh well, you caught us, no big deal." No shame. Found out later that Home Depot often denies extra charges to the subcontractor who has a hard time making back any money beyond the initial estimate, hence my sub's fear of doing complete repairs, since he has trouble getting reimbursed. Clean up sucked. Nails, trash, etc. Home Depot corporate tried, but their field staff, PMs and up, are not professional.
Description of Work: All of the double hung windows were replaced and the cedar plank siding replaced with siding. Decent size house so this was a lot of work.

It's a Home Depot--shopping here is difficult. The store is always a mess. The staff are mostly incompetent and know very little. Try returning something here and you'll wait a long time. Try asking someone where something is, and they rarely know. In fact, it's hard to get someone's attention---I find that the employees often avoid any contact whatsoever and just walk by. You really have to find things yourself.

After more time than we were told, we were informed we could go to Home Depot to order the doors, and when we got to Home Depot, after waiting for one hour, we were told that Home Depot did not carry any exterior wood doors, even though we could show the associate that they had wooden exterior doors on their sales floor. Then we were told that the cost of an all wood door would be between $1,038 and $1,300. Based on this, we will not order any services from Home Depot, and in the case of the doors, will do the work ourselves.

I DID NOT LIKE THE QUALITY OF DOOR THAT WAS PUT IN. THE SERVICE WAS FINE AND THE REPRESENTATIVE WAS PROMPT AND PROFESSIONAL. I THOUGHT THAT THE PRICE WAS A LITTLE TOO HIGH.
Description of Work: FRONT DOOR REPLACED.

I THINK THAT THEY WERE RESOURCEFUL, THE PRICE WAS WELL WORTH THE MONEY WITH THE THINGS I HAD DONE TO MY HOME. I THINK THE CREW WAS VERY CONFIDENT AND KNEW WHAT THEY WERE DOING.
