Renewal by Andersen of Virginia & Washington DC

The initial meeting went great but afterwards heard nothing from them at all. Called customer service and talked to them 4 times within a two week period and still heard nothing from Sales person or a manager. Tried to get another sales appointment for a different service and they cancelled the appointment without our knowledge and did not tell us and did not offer to reschedule. Regional sales was suppose to call and still have heard nothing from them after three days. Very disappointing for a company that rates their customer service as top notch.

I tried to schedule an estimate for my parents and was told they could not schedule an appointment for an estimate unless my parents were home. That is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard. Will not be using them for their house or mine.

They did a fine job. They come back when needed fairly quickly. They were very responsive and am very happy with what they did. They fixed all the little problems without complaint.

It was a free estimate. I felt like their sales approach was really gimmicy and they had us, I don't know, I felt like are we signing up for something that we are about to get sued on if they don't finish it? It felt like we were just being pushed into pens. Okay, sign this document agreeing to what we just talked about. We were like, okay? We were like, are we buying something? We just couldn't tell. It was too gimmicy. They were nice. The salesman was good but when we said we aren't going to go with you, they didn't strong arm us but they came back to the things that they had us sign and we were thinking, oh crap, they have us over the barrel. They weren't going to say, you signed this, you have to buy windows from us, but that's how it felt. It felt like you really try to get us on a chain. We were really glad we didn't go with them. I think they sell a really nice product, so if you have the money to do it, go for it. I don't feel like they are crooks, I will say that. They just had their sales thing and it can be a little intimidating.

Great product and sales team. Reported two minor issues but was never contacted by the vendor to address the issue. They were minor but it affects my rating. I would probably use them again.

Their services were outstanding. There was no mess or anything left behind; It was just wonderful. I would use them again.

The installers did an awesome job. They cleaned up after themselves each day and finished the job earlier than expected. It should be done in 2 days but it ended up being a day and a half.

.If you buy into the concept of a 1950s knotty pine room, when the windows need to be replaced, they must be replaced with windows that will hold the integrity of the room. The Andersen windows are beautiful, as I fully expected but the incredible part of the service was that Joe, who stain the windows, was perfect! They call him The Artist. And he certainly is. He methodically choose a stain color and then stained 11 windows to perfectly match the existing 50 year old knotty pine walls. Seamlessly beautiful and I am so happy with them. Thanks to Andersen and thanks to Joe.

It went very well. It's very professional. It was pretty obvious that it wasn't a subcontracting deal. It was the employees of Renewal By Andersen who did the job. They were on time. They finished the job at a good time.

Having researched window replacement possibilities on a property built in 1958 we were going for reputation & quality of the installation and of course value in the windows. Andersen Windows stood out from the beginning. First, I requested bids from over a dozen companies, all with positive reviews on Yelp, BBB, and Angie's list. I found that the prices ranged from what I paid, up to 5x more than what I paid for the same windows! There was only one other company in the market that came close to the price I negotiated with Andersen. I scheduled someone to come out to do an estimate and their salesman was excellent and knowledgeable. The windows came in on time and installation went well with only one issue. I noticed one of the screens had a cut, but I told the installers and someone came the next morning to replace the screen. The windows themselves are of good quality. The triple-pane glass has helped make the house quieter and we anticipate they'll help lower our heating cost this winter. I am so happy with my new windows. I would definitely use them again.

First let me say this is a bit of a bifurcated review. I first want to rate the sales team, and the administrative team the support of the sale, then provide an independent review of the installers and the actual product. The overall sales experience was not great, the information that was provided by the salesman was not accurate. He failed to mention, that all the hardware needed to be removed from inside of our home prior to installation. He also did not recognize, which makes me wonder if he is ever gone to an install, what the difference with the between our old windows in our new Windows as far as the placement inside of the frame. I can truly say the only intent of our salesperson, was to make a sale. When we did not buy immediately, we were pestered with a number of follow-up calls. Once we did decide to go with Anderson, there was a very poor communications flow between the administrative staff in the salesperson. They clearly were not communicating the order, timeframe and or specifics of the sale. On the positive side, the salesperson did know their product, provide an appropriate demonstration of the features and unique characteristics of the different types of Windows that Anderson offers. It just would have been a much better experience had they provided full information, and a more fluid transition between the salesperson and the administrative staff. A number of times we had to resend information or resubmit paperwork that was already submitted one time. However for the second part of this review, I think it's important to note that the rest of the process once out of the sales realm went much better. the administrative staff was able to set up a time for the installation of the Windows that was convenient for both of us. The information between the administrative staff was much improved over the original discussions with the salesperson. Lastly, I want to note that the actual installation of the Windows was outstanding. The team that installed or Windows completed the entire project in a single day. They were immaculate in their preparation and work. They took great care to not damage anything on the outside or inside of the house, providing drop cloths and any other items necessary to assure that no trash was left behind in no damage was done to the house and the removal of the old Windows. Upon completion of the installation, the team gave a brief update on how to use the Windows appropriately. When they finally did leave, they were able to install all 26 Windows in one day. You would never know they had been here, there are that neat and tidy in the process. The very next day we had a pretty good rain throughout the area, and I was happy to report that there wasn't a single issue with any window install the previous day. So if you're looking for new windows, we are very happy with the quality and construction of the Andersen Windows. And we are very happy with the installation team to put the windows in. However, be forewarned if you work with the salespeople, they are one step above the used car salesman.

5/11/15 - Update to my 3/7/15 - writeup Contrary to the company's response on April 1, 2015 (below), it IS their policy not to even do an estimate if all homeowner's aren't present. I had a follow-up call from Mr. Michael Thielen to our initial inquiry about replacing a set of French doors. He was very pleasant on the phone so I figured I would give them another chance, maybe there was confusion by the caller before. Benefit of the doubt / second chance/ etc. I again explained my husband would not be present. He apologized for what happened before and stated their preference was for all homeowner's to be present but we could still set up for 6pm the following Saturday. All looked good until he needed to confirm with the mysterious 2nd party. I can't address who this mysterious 2nd party is however after he talked to them he came back on the phone and stated they WOULD NOT do an estimate if ALL homeowner's WERE NOT present. There was no dancing around the issue. No misunderstanding. He was very clear. Plain and simple. So obviously they lost a sale (essentially twice now) , For more info see below for what happened before. So I must repeat. The whole experience was very disappointing in this day and age. Where is the support for the military? Where is the understanding women can actually make a decision for the family? Overall not what I was expecting from such a minor purchase. Makes you wonder if they do a hard sell when they get to your house so you buy more than what you really wanted. As I said, disappointing. 3/7/15: Promising at first then terrible. We went to their showroom, made an appointment to have a set of French door replaced and possibly a bow window installed. We explained my husband was deployed and he would only be available that weekend. If possible we would like an appointment then, if not I would be the one available to meet with their sales rep on another day. They said they could do Sunday, the floor rep had me talk to and confirm with a lady on the phone, presumably a scheduler. We were good to go for that Sunday in the AM. Sure enough, we get home and not 5 minutes later they are calling to say they are unable to keep the Sunday appointment and could they reschedule. We had no issues, it truth Sunday was to be hectic anyway, so we said sure. So the lady on the phone asked if when we would both be available. I explained my husband was deploying and wouldn't be available but that I would be available the following Monday. She kept pursuing that BOTH homeowners had to be present. I explained again that my husband wouldn't be available since he was deploying. We went back and forth and she just kept emphasizing that both of us had to be there. While she never straight out said it was company policy not to deal with only the "wife" she definitely kept the emphasis on needing my husband there to make the decisions. I work in engineering & construction, I understand wanting both homeowners present to make a decision but why loose work if it isn't a possibility? Especially, when we had both been in the showroom, specifically stated what we were looking for and simply waned an estimate for the work, and my husband had said he was deploying and that I would be the one making the decisions. It shouldn't have been a surprise, much less an issue. The whole experience was very disappointing in this day and age. Where is the support for the military? Where is the understanding women can actually make a decision for the family? Overall not what I was expecting from such a minor purchase. They were very professional when they came out. It was the cost that they quoted and the number of windows and door that we wanted replaced, we got a better price from the other company. The quote was free. They brought samples. They came to our home. I think they were a little more expensive. I think their quality was good. I would consider another estimate from them if we were going to do anything again.

It couldn't of been better. They crew was great and the product was great. I would absolutely recommend them. These guys were great.

Their people were excellent, they answered all my questions, and I would recommend them very highly. They were respectful, and they left the place cleaner then how they found it. They get 5 stars.

Couldn't have been happier with all the process and product! The sales consultant went way beyond the call. We live in the historic district and all projects must go before an architecture review board. The consultant provided all of the information and actually attended the architecture review board meeting with us. They adjusted the schedule to accommodate some structural work that needed to one done before they came with the windows and doors. They sent two window crews and one door crew to do the work in one day instead of two since the weather took a cold turn. They took out the old windows and doors down to the brick and rebuilt new framing inside and out. They removed all of the old and cleaned thoroughly after they were finished. The service representative also checked in twice during the day to see how the job was progressing. The installers knew their jobs,lunches were staggered, so work continued all day. The installers were professional and personable. The only surprise....one day instead of two. Bravo!

It turned out well. It was a renovation that isn't done many times in life but it was very expensive. It was cost effective given the quality of work done.

It turned out very good. We agreed to work with them and wanted them to come before Thanksgiving. They agreed to come the weekend before Thanksgiving. They showed up and did all the windows except that three of the big windows were wrong. The measurement of the windows were wrong. They took the old ones back and ordered new ones. They came back out three weeks later and replaced them. It was kind of a two-step thing. They ordered the right windows but the manufacturer built them wrong. They did excellent work but they got the wrong windows in. Everything was very good. They didn’t charge me anything more to come back fix the right windows. I read that they were the best and so I expected to pay more. I still think that they were high but I expected that. They were on time. I would recommend them.

The service went really well. They did a great job and got the windows all installed on 1 day.

The process went fairly smoothly. Everyone from the initial sales call through the install was responsive and helpful. The price was higher than I wanted, but who doesn't want to pay less. The only part of the process that was not as smooth as I expected was the actual scheduling of the install. I had hoped for an estimated schedule date after the final measurements were taken. I did receive a call to schedule the install and everything on the install day was completed in one day. Overall I am happy to have completed the project and can now look forward to a more comfortable house.

The contractor was on time, performed all the required work to install great windows. I didn't have any clean up after the job, the contractor did everything.

Generally went extremely well. Work crews arrived on schedule. Window replacement completed in 2 days and front entry door in 1 additional day. Installation crews were professional and performed all work including setup and cleanup to our satisfaction. Only issue was the front entry door surround which had to be custom manufactured by a subcontractor which delayed installation of front entry door a few days. Workmanship is excellent with particular attention to detail including demonstrations on cleaning and maintenance.

I called them because they advertise replacement of storm doors. After a sales job keeping me on the phone for almost 20 minutes, they finally confess that they don't offer storm doors and the only way they could help me is if I "go to Home Depot" (their exact quote) and buy an Andersen storm door, and deliver it to them. But boy, do they ever want to replace my actual doors and windows ... despite the fact that I began the call by explaining that I don't need replacement windows etc. A total waste of time. It's insulting. This tactic must work on someone but it certainly doesn't work on me. How unprofessional.

I am very happy with the quality of the product. The windows look beautiful and the sliding door is very nice too. They certainly look much classier than the vinyl windows that are commonly used to replace old wood windows. The salesperson was very professional, knowledgeable and responsive to my needs. He made himself available and visted our home 3 times as I kept requesting more information. They are very exact in their work and take care of details to make sure the windows fit well. They had to reschedule the installation once because the patio door was not ready as anticipated, but they still met their contractual deadline and installed everything right before the deadline. The installation crew worked very hard and cleaned after themselves. Overall I am very happy with the quality of the product and the installation. I just wish they were not this expensive!

On two separate occasions I spoke to this company on the phone. I am searching for replacement windows for my home. The first time I reached out the Andersen after listening to a radio ad. The second time they called me--(I assume they had my number from the first time I called. On each occasion they refused to send someone out to inspect and/or provide a quote unless my husband and I were both available. First of all, this is extremely insulting to women! I can understand the need to have both property owners signatures before any work is contracted. However, it's insane to require both husband and wife to be available before they have even inspected or given a quote. My husband trusts me as an intelligent women to work with contractors. I was very insulted both times I spoke to Anderson.
