They have excellent workmanship. They were very prompt, professional, and thorough when they were working with me. I really appreciated that they made an effort to clean up as they went along. They made sure to clean up when they were finished with the project.

We are having Andersen windows installed in a kitchen remodel so when looking for window replacements for the remainder of our home, sought quotes from 2 companies from Angie's List + Andersen. The quality of the Andersen windows is well known, and we knew up front that they tend to be more expensive, which was fine. However, the salesman that came (on time, very punctual) displayed enough bad sales techniques that we have elected to have our windows installed from one of the other very good (A rated) local firms from Angie's List where we did not have a bad salesperson experience. The salesperson had a political sticker on his briefcase, and that was off putting to start (not that I am against his candidate for President, but I found it unprofessional that he would show me that first thing in the meeting). He proceeded to tell me over and over that I could count on one hand the number of companies that would provide installation from their own staff (vs. subbing it out). I only needed 3 companies in all to make a decision after much web research and Angie's List and Consumer Checklist, and all three do installation with their own staffs, so that seemed to be overkill. When I asked about the R and U factors for the windows as they were not listed in the brochure, he said that the information was not provided to the public, but that's not true, since it is definitely available right on Andersen's website and they themselves make a big deal about the importance of the low U factor. He did end up faxing the information to me the next day. All in all, this sale was definitely lost because I felt that the other two companies treated me like a person with a brain and that all I got from this salesperson was the standard sales pitch with stock answers for every question I raised.

Salesman was nice, but not as knowledgeable as I originally thought- at least in terms of install options- just replacement vs. full tear-out, etc. Going to the actual showroom to see the windows proved critical. The owner of the store took over our case, and was very honest and patient. Once a contract was signed, Renewal by Andersen was able to do the install one month earlier than their initial estimate. All work was completed very professionally. If you've never done this, it can be a fairly traumatic experience- at one point, we had giant holes where our windows used to be- frightening to see one's house like that. But in an older house like this, the water damage from older, leaky windows becomes very clear as old windows are removed (go for the full tear-out!)- certainly providing reassurance that the need to do this project was very real! One team of two men installed 10 windows in 2 days (as they predicted). Finishing painting was scheduled separately, and took 3 days. In terms of contractor experiences, this ranks among the best we've ever had. I would suggest that installers receive a 'refresher course' on keeping a house neat. I had to ask the installers to cover the carpets with drop clothes, and drywall crumbs got into some of our hardwood floors during the install (which we cleaned up). It would have been preferable had we not had to do some of the clean-up, but all things considered, this was a minor issue for us considering how much work the tear-out and install really was. The final product has literally changed the look of our entire house (I really hadn't anticipated this), and we've protected the underlying wood from more water damage- critical! We also can now open our windows for the first time in years.

I decided on the windows, confirmed a great price for what I wanted on April 24. Mr. Smoot came out to measure the windows the following week. Two days later an engineer came out to remeasure the windows, since my window sizes were unusual and we wanted them to fit perfectly. The order was put in and in 5 weeks the windows were ready to be installed. It took two days for installation. The workmen were neat in appearance and friendly. They got right to work and did a fantastic job. They answered my questions and those of my young son - he was very impressed that they treated him "like a grown-up". There was no mess when they left since they cleaned up after themselves. I could not have asked for better service. One of the reasons I wanted high efficiency windows was to make my house "greener'' and use less electricity in summer and winter. I have notice so far that my air conditioning unit has not come on as frequently as before; my electric bill is lower and this is only the 2nd month since the windows were installed!

My grade speaks for their service, the did a good job.

The salesman was very pushy and used a lot of hard-sell tactics during his pitch such as getting us to sign up for financing, pressuring us to sign with them before we heard other estimates and telling us that all of the other windows were "junk." We had two other estimates, both of which were for $10,000 less. The experience with Anderson wasn't encouraging, and I would not recommend them. The salesman didn't even have sample windows with him and a lot of their information, like the U-value, isn't listed in their literature. As it turns out, their windows merely meet the industry average of .29, which is nothing special, especially given their high cost. We decided to use another company and are much happier as a result. With Anderson, you're getting a name, but that's about it.

Outstanding! The two installers spent 5 hours, cutting out the old framing, ensuring the new frame was perfectly square, insulating behind the framing, caulking, etc. It was complete opposite of our experience when we had a new patio door installed by another company several years ago. In that case, the installers tried to slap the door unit in over visibly rotting wood. They took out the rotting wood only after I pointed out the contract called for it and then put in a piece of wood that was too narrow for the sill, leaving me without anything into which to nail a threshold. I would never do business again with that company, but I would gladly refer people to The Window Place, a.k.a. Renewal by Andersen.

They gave superb service on top quality workmanship. There was some carpentry work involved. The work looks great!

I think they did an exceptional job installing these windows. It gives me peace of mind to know that my father's home is well taken care of and this company understood how important that is to me. They were on schedule and completed the job in an appropriate amount of time.

Contractors replaced 10 windows and installed a new sliding glass door for about $19,000. Several months later I noticed that a crack had developed below the garden window. I then looked around the other windows and noticed they too had cracks in the plaster above or below the windows/door. I called the installers and they ignored me. I called Renewal by Andersen corporate and they were sympathetic. This back and forth went on for days. Finally, I refused to deal with Andersen's licensee (Fairfax office) and Andersen corporate said, get an estimate for repair and painting and we will reimburse you. After the licensee (Fairfax) wasted my time (and $) by making me take a day off from work, they sent me a letter saying the cracks in the plaster were due to the house settling. This is ridiculous since the house never had any cracks before and all the cracks are now just around the windows. The licensee also didn't know the difference between plaster and wall board.

From estimate to installation, replacement went smooth as silk. Windows were installed on an 8-degree day (!) within less than 4 hours by two professional, knowledgeable reps. Our house was left as it was found and the cleanup outside was A+ too. No damage to existing inside window trim or to our shrubs outside. It was wonderful to have our own "personal" contact to call with any questions throughout the process.

They installed 23 windows for $20,000. Overall it was good experience but I thought the price was a bit high. I'd hire them again at a lower price.

Everyone I dealt with was responsive and helpful, and the workmanship was excellent. I especially appreciated the great care that Paul took in trimming out the new patio door and restoring the adjacent wall and ceiling, which had to be opened up so an electrician could re-route some wiring and a receptacle that was in the way. There were a couple of glitches: We had to reschedule installation twice, once due to an unavoidable rain delay and once due to the contractor initially neglecting to pull the county building permit I insisted on for the patio door installation (which required structural changes since there had been no door there before). This was swiftly resolved to my satisfaction, however. The door also came without the grills I had ordered, but The Window Place was quick to resolve that, as well. Although the price seemed high, I am quite pleased with the results. The new windows and door look great and, unlike the old ones, these don't leak!

The salespeople were always very helpful when I visited their showroom. I ordered the doors, someone came out to measure the space within a week and the doors arrived and were installed within six weeks, almost a week earlier than scheduled. They said I ordered just before their busy season started. I was very pleased with the doors and work.

Every detail went as planned: the date; the time involved(5 days); the payment plan; everything. Crew arrived on time; all spoke English and understood their work; the salesman, Melvin Schutt, store manager & regional manager stopped by to see and check the work being done. Clean up was excellent. Barely a scrape was found on the property. This huge job was not easy as house has vaulted ceilings with windows; rotten wood was uncover and replaced; some windows would not pop-out to be replaced. Melvin called to check my satisfaction on a regular basis. Three months after job completion I received a call and after 6 months also. Melvin was my contact from start to finish if there was ever a question. That's what I like - one name; one phone # or 1 email address.

THEY WERE PROFESSIONAL & KNEW WHAT THEY WERE TALKING ABOUT WITH THE WINDOWS. THE NEIGHBORHOOD HAD GOTTEN WINDOWS FROM THEM, SO WE COULD GO AROUND & CHECK OUT THE OTHER WINDOWS. EVERYONE SAID THEY WERE GOOD & HAD A GOOD PRICE.
