Renewal by Andersen of Virginia & Washington DC

It was wonderful. Our house is 72 years old and we were having a constant struggle with our windows. Ever since they installed them, it's been wonderful. They were courteous and very knowledgable. They gave us all of the options we had on different windows. It was done in a half a day and they took all the wood and old frames away and cleaned up the driveway. I really, really enjoyed the way they did the work.

It was fine. They measured the windows well and made them fit the window spaces appropriately.

Very well. The estimate was reasonable, in sync with the style I wanted. The style could be matched to the current color of the house instead of just plain white. Various staff followed up promptly with paperwork, financing and scheduling. The installers were efficient and professional. The windows look and function very well. The smell of whatever chemical was used in the installation was strong and unpleasant especially since the installation was in bedrooms. Hopefully will dissipate soon. Over all, a good experience, especially when contrasted with the second estimate I got from Atlantic Remodeling. Their representative was pushy, deceptive and into mind games. I got the second estimate because I thought I should, but there was no contest in favor of Renewal by Anderson.

Very well. The salesman, Wayne, was professional, no-BS, friendly, no pressure guy. Easy to talk with. Answered questions clearly and stayed on point. The company kept us advised of the expected dates of installation. The installation went very well with no problems. The installation crew was professional, efficient, neat, and wasted no time in getting the old windows out and the new ones in. They cleaned up thorougly and left us with beautiful new energy efficient windows. The whole project went extremely well.

However, after the first Winter Blast in Fall, 2000, we noticed a huge draft in our home. We found that the Windows were not sealling properly around the casemnt siding surfaces.We then continued our insistence that a remedy be applied. We had to use DUCT-TAPE on the inside of our home that winter because Renewal By Andersen, aka WIndow Place, bounced us between their offices.We contacted Renewal By Andersen right away, who eventually sent several folks out. I called Andersen Corporate in June, 2000 and established an official complaint number. They tried to tell me that Renewal By Andersen was a separate Corporation. Don't believe it. After hundreds of emails and phone calls, fully 10 years later, we had a technician out and confirmed the design flaw, but stated that there was nothing that could be done. Pls note the 10 year item: Their Warranty runs out in 10 years, so they initially tried to tell me that the windows were not under warranty any longer. I responded that I had established a Corporate Complaint in June, 2000. I contacted Window Place on March 12, 2012 with a proposed solution. I was told someone would contact me, but nothing has happened.As an update the following Consumer Complaint has been instituted against Renewal By Andersen and their Agents operating locally as Window Place at ComplaintsBoard.com:Complaint as follows:"I have spent the past 13 years trying to get Renewal By Andersen to replace their defective windows. After after the first winter of 1999, it was obvious that the windows leaked around the moving parts. It took multiple call and emails to get them to finally recognize that this was a basic design flaw for which there was no fix. I have had taped windows for the past 12 years. Some years I had to put duct-tape in the windows. I had also contacted Andersen Windows and also filed a complaint for which I received an Andersen Corporate Complaint Number in June, 2000! In 2010, they offered to replace the windows with an upgraded window and screen set along with a New Window Warranty.Very Nice. Except the Local Installer, Window Place, knowing the market very well, refuses to supply pictures of the proposed exterior finish for submittal to Homeowners Association. Instead Renewal Corporate has proposed to repay my original ~7000.00 price of the install done in 1999. Except, the local installer mistakenly sent me an email( Fall, 2011) indicating the replacement price was ~11, 000. I have just recently contacted the local installer with a potential solution, with no response. Typical of Window Place/Renewal By Andersen in Washington, D.C.Do not be fooled by this bunch. April 2, 2012; I have again contacted Andersen Corporate in Minnesota again( March 2012, and talked with one of their Vice Presidents, who talked with Renewal By Andersen, I was supposed to get a letter. I have waited 4 weeks with no letter and no picture of proposed exterior trim. June 28, 2012: Did you know that if and when you use their Warrantied Servcies they will force you to sign a "RELEASE" prohibiting you from saying or posting ANYTHING derogatory. That is how they get nothing but favorable reviews. In other words, you never hear about issues some years later. Do not be fooled by this bunch. Ask them about their "RELEASE" beforehand. You will NOT see any mention of this "RELEASE" as a required item when you report a WARRANTY issue. "OOOPS.. Did we forget to mention that...We are SO sorry.... "! Now that 12 Years has passed, rather than fix the windows, Renewal is telling us to sign their RELEASE prohibiting our posting anything derogatory in the future and fixing anything already posted, thus removing from the Public View their tendency toward INACTIVITY. CONSUMERS UNITE! Do not fall for this BS!!!! July 15, 2012 I sent a Certfied Email to the President/CEO of Andersen Corp advising of an Ethich Complaint .w.r.t. the attemtp to change the terms of the Limited Warranty to include a "Release Form". I have not received a response to date. July 22, 2012 I have established a complaint with the Washington, D.C. Better Business Bureau. August 2, 2012 After receiving an email from Renewal By Andersen that I was to receive a check, I refused the Certified Mail containing something. I assumed it was a check for the original amount of ~7200.00. A response from the Better Business Bureau from Renewal By Andersen started that the contents fo the Certified Letter was a check for the original cost plus some additional dollars. Since the Certified Letter was retunred unopened, I will not know the contents. I responded that PELLA gave me a quote for $13,500.00 and if Renewal By Andersen wanted to buy out my Complaint, they must provide that amount. Since I refused to sign the Release Form, Renewal By Andersen regards that as providing an" ..impractical condition" leading them to refund the original amount. That is hardly the case.............! August 13, 2012 I stll want Renewal By Andersen to come out out and use the already ordered windows, which are sitting in a wharehouse, to replace these defective windows.

This company had prompt arrival, a complete proposal and had good consistency of work with expectations. The workers had a good attitude, professional demeanor and the price was fair. The willingness to work around my schedule was good, they cleaned up after all the work and the product is holding up well. I am happy with the results.

I have had no additional problems. They seemed to be nice people. They cleaned up after themselves. The project was done very quickly. The service was painless. They did leave our existing frames in and just replaced the glass windows.

Things started with the salesperson, Tom, who was very professional and responsive. Unlike the other salespeople with other firms that I contacted for estimates, he actually listened to what I said. Once I signed the contract, the company followed up in a professional manner, sending out someone to measure more precisely and answer any additional questions. The windows were ready for installation when the Window Place said they would be. Both Tom and the measurement specialist, Pete, have years of experience in doing nothing but windows. On installation day, the crew showed up on time and got right to work. Mark and his colleagues were very professional, very hard-working, and impressively efficient. Mark by his own account is fairly experienced for a young person, with about 10 years of installation experience. Instead of the job taking two or three days, they did it in one. They worked steadily through the house, adjusting their work plan to make sure that my cat did not escape. They allowed my neighbor to remove hard-to-find hardware from the old windows. They caulked all of the new windows neatly. The windows look great, they cleaned up after themselves, and did a bang-up job. The job was pricey, but based on my research, I believe that is because the Andersen Renewal product uses more expensive material that costs more than standard replacement vinyl windows. Renewal by Andersen provided quality doors and quality work. The sales representative that came to our home was also very helpful in helping us decide exactly what we wanted.

We were extremely pleased with the service. Andersen arrived on time and did a great job. There was an issue with one window, but the company resolved it immediately and to our satisfaction.
