He doesn't just show up and move along; he talks through what he sees both inside and outside the house, and also brings up possible solutions. I genuinely feel like we are being provided reliable service, and never have to worry about being upsold additional services.

When we first moved here there were signs of a possibility of carpenter ants and so we had them come and they came all the time until I realized it was a waste of my money we didn't have any. I let them do the termite inspection because we live in a forest. After I pay for it they call me to schedule when I want the man to come out.
Description of Work: I use them for a yearly inspection. They come every October.

+ -1 moreI have to break the rating into two parts. The responsibility of the guys that worked for them, I would give them an A. They mixed up our billing last year. They kept sending us bills for our rental property that we were in arrears and that we had not made our payment. It took months for me to get that straightened out. It appeared that the right hand did not know what the left hand was doing because they had a change in their regional manager in their Fairfax office and it took him a while to get the billing straightened out. I do not know if that was him or if that was the mess he was left with, but I kept getting notices that we owe the money and we had not made our payment. For billing, I would give them a D. It was finally straightened out, but it was very frustrating.
Description of Work: We use Orkin. We have a yearly contract with them. On our property the house we live in, we have a termite contract and on our rental property, we have a termite and rodent contract. For termites, they put in little cups with treatment in them that are outside the house so they checked those the last time they came out.

+ -1 moreService-wise, the Fairfax branch of this national pest control service Orkin is quite good. Their scheduling is efficient. I used this service for two or perhaps three years. This company's billing practices, however, are deceptive if not downright fraudulent. At the end of a year's worth of pre-paid services in 2013 I received a bill from Orkin -- it was less than $75, I recall. The accountant's explanation was that one or more of the components (which I had already paid for) had gone up in price during the year, so they had to be billed for. The company wrote that off because I protested that if you pay a set price for a service in advance then you should expect to get that service with no secretly accruing extra charges. Silly me to think my objections were taken note of. Yes, I went ahead and paid in advance for another year's service. At the end of that year I received two invoices. One invoice was for another year of service in advance ($559.68) less a "convenience saving" of $22.39. The second invoice was for a single month's service ($93.28) less a "Balance forward" of $51.39. The accountant couldn't explain where the "balance forward" had come from, or why it hadn't (and couldn't) be applied instead to the annual invoice. The amount was too big to be a discount, and it was only being applied to the single month's invoice. So if wasn't a discount and it couldn't be applied to the annual invoice, the "balance forward" must be an overpayment. So could she please cut me a check for $51.39. You can imagine how that suggestion went over. I won't use a service that uses such murky customer-hostile billing practices and shrugs off complaints. The two times I've complained I've been told many other customers are also upset by the billing practices. I am sending an account of my dealings with this company to the Federal Trade Commission.
Description of Work: Provided pest control for exterior and interior of my single family dwelling for two or three years at two-monthly intervals.

He was professional, knowledgeable, and thorough. He showed me areas where I could reduce the possibility of pest invasion. The technician stopped by when he saw we were moving, just to say goodbye. I plan to start a new contract with them for our new home. I like the billing cycle that they use. We paid for the service yearly. We also got a discount if we paid early.

I rearranged my schedule, including all my meetings, so that I could be home by 4:00. During my meetings, I received two voicemails: one from "Mike" asking me to return his call, and the other (after) from "Wayne" confirming my time. I did not have a chance to call Mike back until I was home, and he told me that Wayne was from Atlanta, that he was from my local office, and that no one would be showing up today. I explained that I had taken time off to come home and that I was very busy. Mike could have cared less, told me that somehow I was supposed to magically know that Wayne was from Atlanta, not Gaithersburg, and that there was nothing he could do. He offered no concessions on my service call as a result of inconveniencing me, and delivered the worst customer service I have ever seen -- particularly for a company's huge screw up. They are a complete and total Fail.

It would have been an "F" but Tom, who I called about my ant problem was very friendly and knew his bugs...told me never to squash stink bugs because that attracts more bugs and to flush them down toilet or let back outside. Also knew what to do about my ants and went to work right away to rid me of them. Later explained what he had done and what I should expect. I was happy with him. (I gave him a "C" because of later neglect.) After he left my ant problem seemed to be solved....I stopped seeing ants after a few weeks. But when ants reappeared in large numbers (same place as before) that's when my problems started with company. After numerous phone calls from Monday to today (Thursday) I never received a return call (no messages on my answering service when I had to step out.) Just NO RESPONSE! I finally went to hardware store and bought my own ant killer. Today I called main office number (In Virginia) and cancelled my service.
Description of Work: An Orkin salesperson came to my door and discussed service with me. I had never used exterminators but had ant problem and various other pests due to living on wooded area so decided to sign up. Poor decision! I signed up for a year of services (every other month.) At $82 dollars a month, but I noticed I was charged (they put my credit card on file) $85 for one visit. The first treatment went by so fast I wondered how they managed it, but strong odor of insect chemicals "assured" me it had been done. the second treatment period was a fiasco. Two service men came at different times. The first guy told me he was "unscheduled" but my regular guy was not in area. It was very confusing and just got worse when a second guy showed up to ask me if my treatment had been done. A very personable ( and I thought, knowledgeable) person showed up for third treatment when I was seeing tiny ants in my kitchen. He was very good and I gave him good marks for the initial visit and also talking to me by phone. But all went downhill after that. My ants came back in force, and since we were planning a vacation the following week, I called on Monday to get same guy back who had done my initial ant treatment. No return phone call. I called on Tuesday. No response. Finally guy who answers phone gave me personal number of my representative. It was now Wednesday and I left several messages with him, but again, NO RESPONSE! Finally I went to the hardware store and bought my own ant killer (Terro which contain borax--same one guy had used inside my kitchen.) I was hoping to get another stronger treatment for outside as he had done before. Will now skip that and hope for the best when we are away! This morning (Thursday) I called one of Orkin's main offices and did get a very good employee who listened to my complaints and apologized. Best thing I can say is that he did not hesitate or put me on hold when I told him I wanted to cancel my year long contract immediately. I will find a small, local firm to do business with in future.

They did what they were supposed to do. They give you four-hour window before they show up. I would use their service in the future too.

Description of Work: We found out we had termites, so we called Orkin earlier this month. They inspected first for termites and found some in our garage, so they had to put little traps all around outside in the yard and they treated for the termites. In the house, they had to clean out the attic. They took out the insulation and then re insulated it.

+ -1 moreI have had a good experience with them. I spent $60 quarter. I have noticed a decrease in pests and I haven’t had bug issues. I originally hired them because I had a mouse issue and they took care of that. Sometimes I had problems reaching them.
